InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ A Lifetime Loving You Part 1; Seasons in Owari ❯ Polaris of the Resmi Sisters ( Chapter 14 )
Chapter 14; Polaris of the Resmi Sisters
(Inu-yasha POV)
Damn, birds! Tweeting and singing their morning songs, it's enough to drive you insane when you're trying to sleep.
Wait!
I opened my eyes slowly and blinked multiple times before squinting into a white light. Holy shit, I'm dead!
"Ah, so the great half-breed of Inu-taisho lives again. Nice to see that you finally decided to come and visit some old friends," a cocky masculine voice said in the light. Finally a figure shadowed the light from my eyes and I recognized the figure before me as the light made him look like a god.
I snorted and closed me eyes. "Aki!"
He bent down and supported his weight on one of his fists. "Baggers again, huh? It's how we found you the first time. We were kids then."
I groaned, "Don't remind me. I've changed a lot since then, and don't think I've forgotten what you did to me."
Aki chuckled to himself and smirked as he shook his head. "You say you've changed, but you're still the same old Inu-yasha."
I opened my eyes slowly and didn't look at him. "You'd like to think that wouldn't you?"
Aki shook his head. I soon looked around my surroundings and found my self in a room decorated with reeds and paper. I was sleeping on a bed filled with packed in goose feathers, the bed of a demon in high stature.
This was the house of the Resmi Sisters, and their demoness leader, Polaris, the one Kagome and I had journeyed to find. Yet something was missing in the scent of herbs, burning oils, and Aki's scent of rice weed.
I got to my knees and opened my eyes enough to look around the room in one spin. "Where's Kagome?"
In an instant I felt pain shoot up my spin and I cringed. I had forgotten about my injury completely and leaned to my side enough so that I could fall back into bed. Aki's chuckling was all I could hear next. "You worry too much!"
"Shut up!"
He shook his head. "I found you in the mountains when I went to take my father's wolves for a before dawn hunt. You're lucky they picked up on the bagger's scent just before that thing had you and that mortal girl for a midnight snack."
I glared at the young wolf-dog demon. "Aki, where is your mother, Polaris, and the girl?"
He sat on his rump a scanned the floor of the room until he found a basket of fruit and began to eat in front of me. I growled, knowing that he was teasing me and keeping me from discovering where Kagome was. "Aki?"
The demon opened his eyes and looked at me with a smirk. "So, when did you do it?"
I was taken back, and slanted my brow. "What are you talking about?"
The guy shook his head. "You really are something! Can't even remember impregnating your own mate?"
I gulped and felt something jab inside of me. Even the wolf-dog could tell that Kagome was pregnant. I turned to the floor and slumped back into my bed and I bowed my head and closed my eyes. "It's not mine...it's my brothers."
This caught the demon's attention and he got in my face in a split second. "How the hell did that happen?"
I snarled and pushed him back. "Keep your nose out of my business. Kagome's child doesn't concern you."
The demon snickered, "Come on, Inu-yasha! You wouldn't be so concerned for the girl if you didn't bring her here to consult my mother and ask for her aid.
"So, the child is going to be a hanyo too, huh?"
I cocked a brow, "Han-what?"
"Hanyo!" he explained, "You of all people should know the meaning of that word."
I sat back down and reflected, remembering the name.
***
"Princess Mika is dead! You have no purpose here, Hanyo of Inu-taisho!"
***
"Half-breed! It's the term used in the royal house of Japan. It's what they called me after my mother..."
I closed my eyes and turned away trying to fight tears. Aki shook his head and sat back down on the floor. "There was little you could have done. You were too young to understand the power you have now."
I shot a dirty look at him. "When did my mother become the main concern in this conversation? I asked you where Kagome was."
He took a bite of his fruit. "The mortal woman with your brother's child? Mother, Polaris is with her in the gardens."

(Kagome's POV)
Pink blossoming tree surrounded me as I looked into the cloud of falling sakura petals. Summer was making its final entry, and it wasn't holding back.
I sat on a stone bench and looked at the pink petals collecting in my hands and on my body. I loved the light color. It was so soothing and made me smile.
"Pink is a wondrous color. It shows so many faces."
I turned my head and found a woman with flowing locks of light green hair that reached to the ground. Her robes were a midnight blue and trailed behind her as she came toward me. Her eyes were cat like, and her ears looked similar to Shippo's.
I looked at the petals once more before letting them flutter from my fingertips to the ground. "It usually meant something wonderful to me. Now, I'm not so sure."
She smiled sweetly at me and took a seat beside me before looking into the trees as the petals fluttered around us. "The scent of Inu-taisho is around you, and his first mate, Sashimi. Am I correct in assuming, and do excuse me for this, my dear, that the child within you is Sesshoumaru's?"
I closed my eyes and turned away. "He was under a curse when it happened. The child was an accident that his controller wanted to create."
The demoness grinned. "In this house, we believe that no child is an accident. Created by evil or good, destiny is what gives us the right to choose what our futures hold. You, Kagome, have obviously been brought here by Inu-yasha because you choose to have this baby."
I looked at her surprised, and she smiled. "Polaris, but in this house, you will call me Sister Polaris. You are apart of a far larger family carrying that child. A very large dog demon family!"
I looked down at my middle and placed a hand over my belly. Sister Polaris got out of her seat and walked over to a tree. "Lord Inu-taisho has a vast family tree. My sisters and I are bound to his tribe by a very distant blood line, as are all dog demons in the west. My ties lie in his father's blood, in two ancestral brothers. One would be the father of Inu-taisho's bloodline, and the other would be mine."
I got to my feet slowly and walked over to her. "You're sharing this with me?"
She smiled and nodded. "The pack of dogs that Inu-taisho led has either been killed or have breed with wolves in other lands. The dog demon blood is dying out, and soon our kind will be extinct due to the lack of males."
I opened my eyes and caught her eye. "What happened?"
Sister Polaris looked to the tree and bowed her head. "Killed by Ryuukotsusei, the Dragon Demon."
I placed my hand over my heart and turned away. "Inu-yasha's father sealed him, but died because of all the injuries he sustained. Inu-yasha was the one who killed him though.
"Still, I never knew he did such a thing."
Sister Polaris bowed her head. "You carry a very special bloodline within you, Lady Kagome. The blood of Inu-taisho and Sashimi is not as strong as Inu-taisho's alone, but it still holds great value when mixed with such mortal blood." She turned to me and folded her hands. "You're purification powers are strong. I can sense them perfectly. It will do one thing, I'm sure. The weaknesses that Sashimi brought to Inu-taisho's blood will be lifted."
I snorted, "Sesshoumaru is far from weak."
Sister Polaris nodded with a smirk. "Yes, but he will never truly be the equivalent of his father...or Inu-yasha for that matter."
I was taken back by her words as she looked at me softly. She giggled, "I can see you are interested. I can tell why he trusts you, as well. You have his mother's gentleness and patience, but also warmth that he longs for."
I narrowed my brow. "Inu-yasha?"
Sister Polaris merely smiled, and the next thing I saw was Inu-yasha making his way toward me rather swiftly. His silver locks were flowing behind him and he was wearing his white nagajugan and red hakama. He came to my side and took hold of my arms before looking me over. "Are you alright?"
Sister Polaris giggled, "Nephew, calm your self! Lady Kagome is in fine health; my sisters have made sure of that."
Inu-yasha turned and stood upright before Sister Polaris. "Aunty Polaris!"
He bowed slightly before her to show respect, but Sister Polaris merely smiled and walked some ways. "Inu-yasha, you bring me a mortal woman who bares your brother's child. I thought you would not come to these parts again after all that transpired between you and Aki all those years ago."
Inu-yasha snorted and turned his back to her crossing his arms and moping. He stuck up his nose. "He's the one with a problem not me."
Sister Polaris shook her head. "You two never got along anyway. In fact you got along with no one in particular around here...accept me...and now this girl from the outside world."
'Farther than just outside, try another time completely!' I thought.
Polaris turned to her house and then back to Inu-yasha. "There is so much to do before the summer is spent. Kagome is a guest in this house, but you Inu-yasha will have to work for both your stay."
Inu-yasha spun around wide eyed. "What?"
Polaris smiled. "The rive field needs to be cut and gathered for winter. You will be here until spring after all. So, you will have to work as though you were apart of this family...just like old times."
Inu-yasha looked like he had a cross between disappointment and laziness. I of all people knew Inu-yasha was not used to working laborious tasks, especially at my expense. Still, the look also seemed to be heartbroken as well.
Polaris smiled, "You'll learn a lot, Nephew!"
Inu-yasha looked up and took a few steps toward her. "But, I thought I would be able to stay beside Kagome while I was here?"
Polaris laughed, and suddenly it was joined by other voices near by, and a various rainbow of long manes and an assortment of faces came into the gardens.
I came to Inu-yasha's side and tugged at his arm. Polaris stood tall before us. "In this house, the men have their share of work and so do the women. The rice needs to be gathered and the barn needs to be handled. With another male in the house, you might as well pull your weight around here, Inu-yasha."
A moment later, as the younger sisters followed and giggled as they looked at Inu-yasha and gossiped as they left, I looked at Inu-yasha. "Why do you have to work? I can do some things around here before I'm unable to."
Inu-yasha bowed his head and looked at me. "You're with a child, Kagome. Polaris has a very powerful faith in life and destiny, and children are important to her. I have no true purpose in being here."
I looked at him with soft eyes and let go of his arm slowly before going back to the bench in the garden. I closed my eyes as I hugged myself. "You can go home if you want. I'll be alright here...alone."
Inu-yasha blinked a few times and kneeled down in front of me. "Kagome, I'm not leaving you! I told you! I'm staying here beside you."
I looked at him. "But you said you have no real purpose in staying here?"
Inu-yasha looked to the party making their way to the house. He seemed to glare at them. "I have a little trust in these demons, but not enough to leave you here with Aki snooping around."
Just as I thought, jealousy! If it wasn't one thing it was another.
Inu-yasha turned back to my, and the next thing I knew, Inu-yasha lifted my chin with his hand. "I've come this far, I'm not leaving without you. You're reason enough for me to stay. You're worth the labor."
My heart skipped a beat when he made his declaration, and a second later he was making his way out of the garden. I came up behind him and slowly took his hand in mine. "I'm glad! I know it seems hard on you now, but I'm glad you're with me."
Inu-yasha stopped and leaned his forehead against mine. "I promised you, Kagome. I promised you that I wouldn't leave your side." I felt his hand smooth over my cheek. "I won't! I'll stay here, no matter what it takes."
The months to come would bring enlightenment to both of us...and longing due to the fact were never really were with each other as much as we wanted to be. Yet, having Inu-yasha near by was enough. He stayed because of me, but what we would learn in time would change everything.
And it all started with a simple story about Inu-taisho...and his human mate, Mika...Inu-yasha's mother.
