InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ A Light amongst the Darkness ❯ The Lost Memories of Light ( Chapter 2 )

A/N: This is the chapter two that I have edited. There still my be some mistakes but I think I got most of them. I was going to add some more edited chapters tonight but it is so late I have to work tomorrow. I will add a whole bunch tomorrow. I left the author note's at the beginning because these note's explain about the story I thought that would be a good idea to do.
~*~*~*~*
A/N: Sorry about not putting in my notes at the beginning of the story. I ended up writing two versions of Chapter One and the one I decided to go with didn't have my notes. *sheepish grin* Gomen. So I will be filling you all in at the beginning of this chapter.
A/N: Alrighty so this story happens shortly after episode 145 of the Japanese versions of Inuyasha. I have watched them in English and then in Japanese and a lot of Inuyasha's and Kagome's really cute scenes are done totally different in English then Japanese. Also there might be some spoilers in these chapters for those of you who have not seen all the episodes up to 145. For that I am really sorry. I will try to give a warning but sometimes I just get into such a rhythm of writing that I don't notice it.
A/N: So a little about Chapter One. The very first scene happened about sixty years ago. It is a flashback of Sesshomaru's. I know for those of you who have read the first chapter will notice that the youkai that everyone is talking about never has her name stated in the chapter. There is a reason behind it and I'm sorry if that made anyone mad because they couldn't find her name.
This story starts out mostly about Sesshomaru and his relationship to the youkai that is causing all this trouble. Once she is "introduced" it will be mostly about Inuyasha and Kagome because I want those two to be together so badly ^_^
A/N: A few words to note. For those of you who don't know what these words mean
Youkai is Japanese for demon
Youki is the energy that a youkai gives off
*Disclaimer* Inuyasha and all the characters are property of their respected owners. I don't own Inuyasha. I just like to write fan fictions where the characters that I want to be together get together. I am the owner however of the characters that I create for this fan fiction.
Chapter Two
The Lost Memories of Light
Inuyasha was getting more than a little pissed off as Sesshomaru stared at Kagome. He had a look of hunger in his eyes. Inuyasha tried to pull Kagome away from him but she had a firm grasp on the sleeve of his kimono. Kagome never once blinked as she raised her other hand and placed it gently on Sesshomaru's face. Inuyasha was more then a little surprised at Kagome's movement but what surprised him even more was that Sesshomaru didn't pull away or even flinch. Instead he tilted his head and rested his cheek upon her hand. This was more then Inuyasha could take.
"What the hell gives, Sesshomaru?" yelled Inuyasha as he pulled Kagome's hand away from Sesshomaru's face. Sesshomaru's eyes flashed at Inuyasha and he nearly swallowed his tongue. He only gave that look to people that he was about to kill.
What the hell is going on!! Why is Kagome acting this way? Why are her eyes all messed up and what's up with her voice? Inuyasha's face was screwed up as he tried to figure this all out. Sesshomaru was back to gazing at Kagome and it wasn't until she spoke, again in that soft sweet voice, that Inuyasha was brought back to his senses.
"I have waited so long for you Sesshomaru. Why have you not come for me sooner?" asked Kagome. However her voice was starting to loose it's sweet sound. It sounded bitter and angered at Sesshomaru for making her wait. `This can't be Kagome,' thought Inuyasha. She has never been waiting for Sesshomaru. She doesn't even care for Sesshomaru enough to wonder why he had never came for her.
"I did come for you. I was too late to get to you though," replied Sesshomaru. His voice was softer than usual. It was showing his emotion, as were his eyes. This was more than a little freaking out Inuyasha. Sesshomaru never showed emotion. He was colder then ice and yet here he was speaking from his heart. All arrogance lost, his pride put aside, this was his true self.
"Inuyasha," whispered a voice behind him.
Inuyasha nearly dropped Kagome. He was about to look behind him when, "Don't turn around. Then Sesshomaru will know that I am here."
"Shippo?" whispered Inuyasha.
"Yeah, it's me. Miroku asked me to relay a message to you. I was small enough so that Sesshomaru wouldn't see me coming."
"Spit it out already."
"Alright, alright. Miroku says that you have to get Kagome away from Sesshomaru. He is sensing that some youki is building up inside of Kagome. Whatever it is that is using Kagome to speak through is really mad at Sesshomaru."
"That's easier said than done, Shippo. I move Kagome and Sesshomaru will attack me, and if I don't move Kagome she will end up attacking him. I don't see how this is going to…" However Inuyasha's words were cut off as Sesshomaru yelled out in pain. Inuyasha turned his gaze back to Kagome and Sesshomaru just as Kagome shot what looked like lightning through Sesshomaru. The youki coming from the attack knocked both Sesshomaru and Inuyasha back a few feet. Shippo yelled out in fright as he took off to hide behind Miroku.
"What the hell was that?" yelled Inuyasha as he slowly got to his feet. Kagome was lying on ground with her face in the grass. She wasn't moving. Inuyasha made to run to her but Miroku and Sango both grabbed Inuyasha about the waist.
"No Inuyasha, don't," panted Miroku as he tried to hold back Inuyasha as he made frantic movements to get to Kagome.
"Houshi-sama is right Inuyasha. Kagome-chan is not herself right now. She is being possessed. Can't you feel the youki that is surrounding her?" Sango yelled to Inuyasha.
Inuyasha didn't care. He just wanted Kagome back. He didn't know how but he knew that this was all Sesshomaru's fault. Inuyasha stopped fighting and his eyes opened wide as he now visibly saw the youki coming off of Kagome. It was the same colour as the kekkai when Sesshomaru announced his name to it. Kagome slowly pushed herself up so she was sitting on her knees and leaning on one hand to stay balanced.
"Ka-Kagome?" whispered Inuyasha and he cautiously walked forward.
"Stop, Inuyasha. That is not your human anymore," said Sesshomaru who stood a few feet in front of Kagome. He was no longer speaking with emotion. He was back to his cold self as his right arm hung lifeless at his side. Blood was running down his forearm and was dripping off his fingers. A large burn mark was where Kagome had a hold of his kimono. "She is the lost memories of light."
Inuyasha cocked his eyebrow and stared dumbfounded at Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru smirked at the look on Inuyasha's face. "I don't expect a hanyou to know such important things. However that look does suit you."
Inuyasha growled at Sesshomaru. But it was Miroku who spoke, "Kagome is the lost memories of light? But how can that be? Those memories were said to be lost after the War of Darkness ended. The youkai of whom you speak had lost her life in that battle and as such her memories were lost as well."
"A human knows of the War of Darkness? I must say that I am impressed. It was well before your time. However as a human you do not know all the facts. The youkai did not lose her life in that battle. She was sealed away. However her most powerful memories and thoughts were transported and etched into different places around this land. This miko was the strongest person to carry the memories and now she's acting on them," stated Sesshomaru.
"Kagome-chan is acting on them? What memory was lost to that clearing? She is giving off a lot of youki and she isn't even a youkai," replied Sango as she stared at her friend with tears in her eyes.
"The memory is of no concern to you humans and the lowly hanyou. The human will act on the memory until the memory is satisfied. Until then she will not return to normal. This will end up claiming her life." Sesshomaru was as cold as ever.
"You bastard! You know of a way to stop this! I know you do! You knew this youkai that has possessed Kagome. I saw the look in your eyes when she spoke," said Inuyasha. Sesshomaru flinched slightly but recovered before anyone would notice. "There has to be some way of making it let go of Kagome!!" Inuyasha was shaking out of shear spite for Sesshomaru. The bastard stands there and does nothing! How the hell did he become so cold? I will not let Kagome die. I will protect her. Even if it costs me my life I will never leave her to die from this! I can't lose her!!
Kagome stood up and swayed slightly on the spot. She raised her head and looked at Sesshomaru. Wave after wave of youki was coming off of Kagome. She raised her right arm out to the side with her palm up. A small grin appeared on her face and she concentrated the youki in a ball of light.
"I will not let you live any longer then you already have Sesshomaru. You were always meant to die with me. It is time that you kept your promise to me. I have been waiting for so long for you." The voice that coming out of Kagome had no traces of the sweet voice that had once been spoken by the memory. It was full of hatred and was becoming impatient.
Kagome grabbed onto the ball of youki and threw it straight at Sesshomaru. He jumped out of the way but the youki was still pretty strong, and he was hit hard by the shockwave. The youki destroyed all the trees where it hit and left a huge crater in the ground, precisely where Sesshomaru was standing moments earlier.
"You went back on your promise!! Your life belongs to me Sesshomaru! How dare you exist in this world while I do not! I will never forgive you!" yelled the memory through Kagome. Her face was contorted with anger. She jumped at Sesshomaru and tried to punch him. But he dodged again. With only one arm, and it being damaged, Sesshomaru was having enough trouble just trying to get out of the way of Kagome as she jumped at him.
Inuyasha couldn't believe what he was seeing. Kagome had never been able to move like this before. She was fighting as if she really was a youkai who was fully trained. She raised her right leg and kicked Sesshomaru in the ribs sending him flying back and breaking a tree in two. Sesshomaru landed in a heap on the ground as he panted and tried to get up again.
"Inuyasha, you have to stop her! If she kills Sesshomaru then the memory will be satisfied and she will die," gasped Sango as tears ran down her face as she watched Kagome jumped into the air with her right arm drawn back ready to strike Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru barely rolled out of the way and she fist crashed into the ground and shot dirt and earth everywhere.
"How do I stop her? Sesshomaru can't even seem to stop her!" spat out Inuyasha as he watched in horror as Kagome relentlessly attacked Sesshomaru.
"Inuyasha, Kagome-chan never gave up on you whenever you transformed into your youkai form. She never gave up on you once! And now she needs you more than ever and you hesitate!" Sango was shaking as she grabbed a hold of the front of Inuyasha's fire rat kimono, "If only Kagome-chan could see you now. I thought that she meant something to you! Kagome-chan would die before she ever gave up on you. And yet you can't think of a way to help her when she needs you most!!"
Inuyasha looked into the tear stained face of Sango. She was staring at Inuyasha with such disgust that it made his heart ache. She is right. Am I really that weak that when Kagome needs me this much I just stand by and watch her? Sango's right, Kagome has never once given up on me. I will not give up on her! I will not lose her! I will get her back!
Inuyasha raised his hands up and grasped onto Sango's hands that were holding onto his kimono. "You're right Sango. I am sorry." Inuyasha gently pulled her hands away from his kimono and turned to look at Sesshomaru and Kagome. Sesshomaru was visibly beaten. The blood was still streaming his right forearm and now he had a bleeding lip. His kimono was ripped and torn and he looked like he could barely stand. Sesshomaru's back was facing Inuyasha and Kagome was facing off against Sesshomaru.
"I don't know why you are putting up such a fight, Sesshomaru. Your life belongs to me and as such you should just give in and die for me." Kagome starting to run toward Sesshomaru, who closed his eyes. I did promise my life to you. Why am I fighting you? I should have been sealed away with you sixty years ago. If my life is what you want, then this Sesshomaru will give you his life.
Inuyasha jumped forward and pushed Sesshomaru aside. Kagome was visibly thrown off by Inuyasha's movement and slowed down. Inuyasha was hoping that this would happen as he jumped at Kagome and wrapped his arms tightly around her. Kagome's head was resting against his chest, his arms held her tightly to him. The memory was thrown off by what was happening.
"Kagome," whispered Inuyasha.
Kagome flinched slightly at the softness of his voice. The memory remembered being held like this once before, but not by this person. The memory felt safe. However this was not to last long. The memory wished for Sesshomaru's death and this person was not going to stop it from happening. Kagome raised her hands and tried to stop Inuyasha from holding her.
"I'm not letting you go, Kagome. I'm never letting you go again. Come back to me Kagome. I need you!"
***
Kagome slowly opened her eyes and looked around. She was surrounded on all sides by darkness. "Where am I?" she wondered aloud.
"Rest, child. It will all be over soon."
The voice startled Kagome. She began to look around again trying to find the person that the voice belonged to. "Who are you?"
"I am the Light, Kagome."
"How do you know my name?"
"I know all about you, Kagome. I allowed you to enter the Plain of Ankara. I entered into you. I had only hoped that you would have been able to purify this memory. I seem to have been mistaken."
" `Purify this memory?' What are you talking about?" Kagome tried to walk forward but was unable to move. She tried to move her arms and they would not move either. "I can't move!" Kagome panicked and tried to move again. All that ended up happening was shooting pains running through her body.
"I would stop moving if I were you, child. I do not wish to see you suffer more then you already have."
The voice was soft and very pleasing to listen too. Kagome couldn't quiet seem to place were she heard the voice before, but something in the back of her mind was telling her that she had heard it before, and not to fear it.
"Please tell me what is going on. Why can't I see anything? Where am I?"
"So many questions you have, miko. You cannot see anything because the darkness of this memory is all around you. I fear that this is one of my memories that truly desires to see Sesshomaru die. As for where you are, you are inside your own thoughts, trapped by the memory. The memory has taken over your body and is trying to kill Sesshomaru."
"Kill Sesshomaru? Why would a memory wish to kill someone?"
"This memory wishes to kill Sesshomaru because he promised his life to me. When I was sealed away Sesshomaru still walked this world. A part of me became angered at the thought that he would be walking this world without me. So the miko that sealed me had to dispel all the negative thoughts and memories from me before she could seal me here. This memory found its way to the Plain of Ankara and has been waiting for sixty years for a miko of high spiritual powers to come by and release it.
`However over the years of being sealed and watching Sesshomaru my heart realized that he was not meant to be sealed with me or to die at my side on that day. But I was unable to stop the memory that had already left me. That is why I called out to you in the clearing asking you to help me. I was hoping that you would have the power to purify this memory so that it would not kill him."
Kagome suddenly remembered the voice now. This voice had spoken to her in the clearing. It had asked her for help. It was all coming together now. The help she was asking for was to purify the memory since she could not stop it herself. But Kagome was not able to purify it. She did not know how to do so. "I am truly sorry that I could not help you. I am not a miko. I do not know how to purify."
"You are not a miko? I beg to differ. You are one of the most powerful mikos I have ever met. You may well be stronger then the miko that had to seal me away. You can still stop this, Kagome. If you do not you will die once the memory has killed Sesshomaru."
Kagome stared off in complete shock. `I will die once the memory has killed Sesshomaru? What will happen to Inuyasha? What will happen to everyone else? I don't want to leave Inuyasha Kagome blinked hard with a new look of determination on her face.
"I knew that you would be the one, Kagome."
"I will not lose to this memory! I want to be with Inuyasha! We said that would be together and I will not brake that promise."
"Inuyasha?"
Kagome barely heard the voice say his name. She sounded sad, as if she knew Inuyasha. "That's the spirit, Kagome. You can beat this. I will help you as much as I can before the memory discovers I am here."
A blinding light appeared before Kagome. It was so bright that Kagome had to close her eyes tightly. The light was even piercing through her eyelids and Kagome could felt tears forming at the corners of her closed eyes. The light slowly started to soften and changed to a light cherry blossom colour. The light was not bothering her closed eyes so Kagome slowly opened them. When her eyes finally did adjust to the light, the sight before her took her breath away.
Standing before her was an extremely beautiful youkai. She could tell it was a youkai because upon her forehead was a marking of a sun that had three jewels on either side. She also had a small cherry blossom petal marking at the corner of her left eye. She was dressed in very lavish armour that didn't seem to match the current era of Japan, but it suited her extremely well. She had very long flowing hair. It seemed to sway as if it was caught in a light breeze even though there was no wind. Kagome wished she could tell what colour it was but because of the light that was around her everything about her was tinted cherry blossom pink.
"Kagome, I am going to try and help you but this is going to be hard for you. I thought that you had been trained as a miko, but I guess I was wrong about that as well. In order to purify this memory you must enter into the youki of the memory and pray. By your prayers you will be able to disburse the youki and purify the memory. I have faith in you, Kagome. You can do this."
The youkai that was standing before Kagome slowly raised her hands and place them gently on Kagome's upper arms. Kagome looked down to see what the youkai was doing when she noticed that her body was completely covered with black vine like ropes that were covered in small thorns. This was why I could not move and why it shot pain through me when I tried.
The vines started to glow as the youkai forced her youki into the vines to dissolve them. Kagome could feel the warmth of her youki. It was as if someone was placing a warm blanket over her. She was completely at peace. Kagome closed her eyes and allowed the feeling to wash over her. Kagome could feel the vines cracking and braking off of her. Kagome opened her eyes and watched as the last few pieces of the vines fell away.
The youkai flowed back and was panting. "I have used up all the youki that I possess in this form. I can no longer stay here."
"No please don't leave me! I need you to help me! How do I find the center of the youki? How do I stop this memory from killing Sesshomaru?"
"Listen, Kagome, and you will find a way…" The youkai smiled slightly and closed her eyes. Her youki slowly started to vanish before Kagome's eyes. Kagome reached out and tried to grab onto her. She didn't want her to leave. She wanted her to stay with her and help her do this. However all that Kagome's hand grabbed onto was empty air as the youkai vanished and left Kagome in the dark once again.
Kagome wrapped her arms around herself and closed her eyes. What did she mean "listen and you will find a way?" What am I listening for? I can't do this on my own…
"Inuyasha…"
"Kagome."
Kagome opened her eyes and looked around. That was Inuyasha's voice! But how can that be? He can't be here as well. But I could have sworn I heard his voice!
"I'm not letting you go, Kagome. I'm never letting you go again. Come back to me, Kagome. I need you!"
Kagome could hear is voice as if he was standing right next to her. She could feel him holding onto her, but something inside of her was trying to push him away. She wasn't going to let anything push Inuyasha away.
"Inuyasha! I need you too!" yelled Kagome.
Kagome closed her eyes and clamped her hands together in front of her chest. Kagome started to concentrate with everything she had to find the youki of the memory that was inside of her. She suddenly felt cold and could feel hatred all around her.
This is it! Kagome concentrated even harder as she fought her way through the youki to find its center. I will not lose to this. I want to be with Inuyasha! I need him! I will find my way back to him and you will not stop me! Kagome's whole body started to glow fuchsia.
"I will not fail! I will help the youkai and I will purify this memory! I'm coming Inuyasha, wait for me!" Kagome's body exploded with light as it reached out into the darkness of the memory.
***
Inuyasha held Kagome tightly against his body. Though she fought to break free from his grasp he was not going to let her go. He would never let her go again. Suddenly Kagome's hands stopped trying to push him away. Inuyasha loosened his hold on Kagome only enough to look down at her face. Kagome's head fell back and her arms fell to her side. Inuyasha had to readjust his hold onto Kagome so that she wouldn't fall through his embrace as she had become limp.
"Inuyasha…" whispered Kagome.
It was Kagome's voice. It was not longer the voice of the memory that was trying to kill Sesshomaru. Inuyasha stared in silence at Kagome. Her eyes were slowly changing from the strange silver-opal to the warm chocolate brown that melted Inuyasha's heart every time he looked into them.
"Inuyasha… I… need you… too…" Kagome whispered with great difficulty. Kagome's eyes closed as her body started to get warmer. Inuyasha looked into Kagome's face and pulled her into himself. Kagome's body was getting warmer and warmer and a strange light was being emitted from her. It was the same colour that her purifying arrows would change to.
Kagome pulsated and sent off a wave of energy. It took everything that Inuyasha had to hang onto her. It was the most powerful energy that he had never felt come from Kagome. He knew he wouldn't be able to hang on to her if it happened again. No sooner had Inuyasha thought this than Kagome shot off another wave of energy. Inuyasha was blow away from her and landed hard on the ground a few feet away from her. Miroku rushed over to his fallen friend and helped him into a sitting position.
Kagome was floating in midair, giving off wave after wave of energy. She was glowing with such an intense fuchsia that they all had to shield their eyes from its intensity. "Miroku, what is going on? What is happening to her?"
"She is fighting it Inuyasha! She is trying to purify the youki," replied Miroku with a grin on his face, "Kagome-sama is truly a powerful miko!"
"That human will never be able to purify that youki. It has been growing in strength for over sixty years. No human or miko is that powerful," stated Sesshomaru.
"Shut the hell up, Sesshomaru!! I don't know why Kagome is saving your ass, but she is. She is purifying this youki, which means that you aren't going to get killed by it today. Just you watch, Kagome is going to kick that youki's ass! So you can shut the hell up and watch!" yelled Inuyasha.
Sesshomaru looked down at Inuyasha and the confidence on his face for this human. Do you really think, Inuyasha, that this human will be able to purify all of the youki? It was strong enough to do this much damage to this Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru thoughts were interrupted by a sudden blast of light. The light covered the entire area that everyone was standing in. It was a warm light and it was so pure that Sesshomaru closed his eyes and let it wash over him.
Inuyasha opened his eyes just in time to see Kagome flowing back down to the earth. Inuyasha jumped up and caught her in his arms. Kagome's eyes were closed and she was breathing very fast. She was totally exhausted from the event. Inuyasha pulled her into him and hugged her tightly, nuzzled his face into her hair. "Thank god!" was all Inuyasha could think of saying.
"Inuyasha…"
Inuyasha loosened his embrace and looked at Kagome. Her eyes were only half open but they back to their usually brown. "Kagome, are you alright?"
"I thought it was you. Arigato Inuyasha. I couldn't have done it without you." Kagome leaned forward and gently kissed Inuyasha. Inuyasha was taken back. It felt so good to have her lips on his. Inuyasha gently returned the kiss. I will never leave you, Kagome.
They pulled away from the kiss and looked into each other's eyes. "She was right. All I had to do was listen and I would find a way. She was talking about listening with my heart and I would hear you calling out to me Inuyasha."
"Who was this?" questioned Inuyasha.
"She was the most beautiful youkai that I had ever seen. She had a sun marking on her forehead and very elegant flowing long hair. She never told me her name but she said that she was the light." Overcome by the loss of energy and the struggle with the youki Kagome fainted into Inuyasha's arms. He pulled her close and held her in his arms. "Rest, Kagome. No one will hurt you while I have you."
Sesshomaru stepped back as he couldn't believe what he had just seen. The human had just repelled the youki of one of the most powerful youkai that had ever walked this earth, and now she was talking about the youkai of light. Sesshomaru shook his head disbelieving and turned and started to leave the area.
"So you have chosen Kagome, my Sorano," stated Sesshomaru as walked into the shadows of the trees that surrounded him.
