Chapter 7

Why?

“Mom stop it!!” Kagome said as she was punched and slapped continually by her mom. `I knew Nusha coming back was a bad idea…' Kagome thought. What she would give if she had her old Mom back to say `I told you so.' But now was not the time to be saying that. Nani got tired of the slapping game and pushed Kagome into a glass bookcase. Glass shattered everywhere on Kagome giving her cuts physically everywhere on her body. This had been happening a lot lately. First it was the expected punches from her Dad, or as of 2 months ago, a couple of slaps from her mom. But this was starting to get ridiculous. Souta still had a lot of scars on his fragile body, even with Kagome taking most of the hits for him. Which is why she was in this situation now.

*Flashback*

“Souta, I just got a call from the school,” Nani said calmly. He knew what was coming. “Why were you sent to the principles office?” she suddenly burst out. She got Souta one good time in the face, before Kagome stepped in front of him. “Mom, I am sure it wasn't his fault!” Kagome screamed out. “You stay out of this Kagome.” Nani said while trying to push her away. “No, Mom! Leave him alone!” She yelled back. Souta ran to the kitchen while Kagome tried to stand up again their mother.

*End Flashback*

Her moms voice jarred her out of her thoughts. “GO TO YOUR ROOM KAGOME!!!” Kagome walked quietly up the stairs and turned into her room, then quietly shut the door. She went and sat on her bed and listened to her parents…no wait…I guess they weren't really that anymore…her….caretakers…there we go….. screamed at one another for the umpteenth time that day. When people at school asked what happened to them, Kagome and Souta would just say that they fell down the stairs or got in a fight. Its not like they were gonna tell what actually happened, I mean, their parents might hurt them, but deep down they still loved them, and did not want them to be taken away. That and they would never consider going to a foster home. A shrill scream of a child raised the hair on Kagome's neck. The stairs thundered right before a very startled Souta ran in her room with tears in his eyes and a blood covered right arm. “Souta what happened?!?” Kagome asked. `This is bad, no matter how much he has been it he has never cried before.' She thought while he gave his answer. “M-M-Mom had a knife and was a-a-aiming for D-D-Dad b-b-but he slapped it away and it hit me in…instead.” Kagome was officially terrified. “Souta, go to your room and pack some clothes and a couple of other things, okay?” “Alright sis, but why?” “Don't worry about it just do it.” As he scurried to his room, Kagome packed clothes bandages, and a couple of other things. `We can't leave too long….I just have to get him out of here tonight…if there are consequences….I'll take them…' Kagome thought as she grabbed what was left of her money and her backpack. `Sesshomaru said he would be checking up on me `soon', it has been two months since then.' She stopped out side Soutas' door. “We should have enough money to rent a hotel room, we just have to sneak out so be very quiet!” She whispered. It sounded like everything was quiet so she went down first. `Just like I thought, asleep again.' She signaled Souta downstairs and quickly they ran out the front door.
