Chapter 4

Enter the Lord of the West!

Kagome shifted in her futon. Something had driven her sleep away, and now she couldn't get comfortable. Sitting up, she threw the blanket off her legs. They looked so dirty…maybe a bath would help. She nodded to herself and stood. Her head spun a little, and there was some pain in her ribs, but she ignored it and left the hut.

Walking towards the forest, she heard had Sango talking about a hot spring out this way. `Hopefully it's not that far of a walk,' Kagome thought as she disappeared into the forest.

-Else where…..

"Rin wants to go for a walk!" Rin came running up to a dazed Sesshoumaru. He sat on the edge of a fountain that was supposed to portray his mother. Looking up at her with his cold eyes, Sesshoumaru nodded. Rin cheered and grabbed Jaken by his staff and tore off to the doorway leading into the forest. Standing with his cold elegance, something told him to go where Rin wanted. Possibly he would find the thing that has been plaguing his dreams for the last week or so.

-In the forest….

Inuyasha came to a halt in the middle of a clearing. Kikyo was laying on the ground, seemingly injured.

"Kikyo…" He whispered and hurried to her side. He cradled her into his arms as he tried to wake her.

"Wake up, Kikyo!" He insisted. Her eyes fluttered open and they focused on Inuyasha.

"Inuyasha? What're you doing here?" She asked, for the first time not trying to evade his embrace.

"I smelt you nearby…I wanted to see why you were around…Are you hurt?" She shook her head.

"Exhausted, yes. Hurt no…Inuyasha…" She trailed off.

"Kikyo…I told you once…I would always do my very best to protect you…" He hugged her tightly.

Kagome heard voices not too far away. One sounded like Inuyasha, so she went to go see. Silently, she peeked out from behind a tree and saw Inuyasha on the ground with Kikyo. They were hugging each other tightly. Kagome felt her heart shatter as she watched, her body growing cold. `no…'

Kikyo broke slightly from Inuyasha's arms and studied his face.

"Inuyasha…I need you…" She whispered. Inuyasha felt his heart take flight.

"I need you too…Kikyo…" He closed the gap between them, kissing her with the passion hidden from him for over 50 years. That broke the last shard of Kagome's heart. Seeing them kissing…it was like her dream…the pain overwhelmed her and she turned and ran. Blindly running from them, but seeing nothing but them. Everywhere she looked she saw them kissing, embracing…Tears fell down her face, blurred her vision as she ran and ran.

Exhaustion and the pain from her ribs slowed her and she collapsed onto a hillside about a mile from the forest's edge. Sorrow clutched at her throat as she sobbed in pain till sleep took over her.

"Lord Sesshoumaru! Lord Sesshoumaru! Lookit what Rin found!" Rin called from over the next hilltop. Gliding over the grasses, he stopped, looking at the barely breathing form of his half-brother's wench. A small flashback of a dream crossed over his golden eyes as he stared at her trembling figure.

-Flashback- Sesshoumaru's POV

I am walking through tall fields of grass. I see nothing but the darkness around me, though my ears hear a person in sorrow, sobbing into the ground. My nose smells pain and a broken heart. Faster than I can move, I'm on a hillside and I see a person, face down in the grasses, dying of grief…

-end flashback-

Normally I would have just said to leave the wench, but something told me to take her with me. This human…Might as well. Why tempt fate? I went to her and picked her up. She was surprisingly light, and she didn't smell as foul as humans normally did, which surprised me as well.

"Our walk is over, Rin…we are going home now." I tell her as I walk off, Jaken huffing to follow Rin as she dashes ahead of us.
