Chapter 3

Nightmare Dreams

"Inu…yasha…" Kagome whispered in her delirious sleep-state. Inuyasha looked to her. What could she possible by dreaming of?

"Kagome…please…don't be in pain anymore…" Inuyasha whispered, shifting so he could lay beside her and cradle her head in his arm. She rolled into him and nuzzled into his chest.

"I…love you…" Kagome whispered almost too silently for Inuyasha to hear…Almost.

`She loves me?' Inuyasha's mind questioned as he stared at the wounded, sleeping miko in his arms.

`She loves me…' His mind repeated. `Fool, she may be dreaming of something else!' A voice poked at his emotions. `SHUT UP! I know that!' Inuyasha's mind yelled back, hurt at the possible truthful statement. His arms tightened around her and he dropped his head next to hers. He lost all care of being found by any of the group while he held her. This is what he wanted and no one would take him from her.

-Elsewhere…

Kikyo stared at the happening from an all-seeing pool.

"So…the puppy things he's in love with that wench, eh? Just wait. Just you wait, Inuyasha. Lets see how much love you have for Kagome when I come around." Her laughter sent shivers into the pool and the picture disappeared. Her soul stealers paced the air around her.

-Kagome's Dream……..Kagome's POV (point of view)

Darkness…

`Where am I?'

A small light….so far away….it's blue…no red…yellow?

I walk towards it, my footsteps echoing off unseen walls. I hear a low voice… `Whose is it? What are they saying?' I look around, but all I see is darkness.

Suddenly, I'm cold…freezing…suffocating. I see Inuyasha and I run to him, my hand stretched out to him. `Inuyasha!' Wait…someone is with him…who is…Kikiyo? No! Why is Kikyo with him? They are drawing closer….Why?! Why Inuyasha?! Why are you doing this to…I gasp. They are kissing! Right in front of my eyes! The blackness shatters. The cold freezes through me.

They are falling away from me now….no I'm the one falling. They're laughing at me...NO! This can't be true! "I LOVE YOU!" I scream to him…he doesn't hear me. I fall, uncaring as tears drift from under my eyelashes as I fall forever….

But what's this? Suddenly I'm bathed in warm light. I'm warm and comfortable and…there are arms around me. I feel safe…loved. I lean into the person holding me and look up into his eyes. His beautiful, but somehow…familiar golden eyes. The light clears and I see his whole face…NANI!?!?!?!?! ~*~

I jump awake, my face wet. Inuyasha is laying next to me, his eyes wide.

"Kagome..." he whispers as I blush ferociously and wipe my face on the blanket I'm covered in. I can't get those golden eyes out of my head. Those eyes that belonged to…No. Think of something else! Why would you even think of HIM!?

"Inu…yasha?" I squeak. He stares at me as I scramble to put that dream aside to think of it later. He doesn't say anything, just watches me. It's as if he KNOWS I was dreaming of…no…he can't know…can he?

"Why…are you looking at me like that?" I ask, nervous.

"You…were talking in your sleep…" He whispered. I pale. What did I say? I hope nothing too horrible…

"What did I say?" I ask, carefully.

"You said you…MIROKU!!!!" Inuyasha cried, leaping from the bedside and out the door in one movement. I can hear Miroku cry out in pain as he runs away, apologizing. Pain curses through my arm and my chest as I move to stand up. Sango comes in and hurries to my side.

"No you don't!" She says and forces me back down onto the cot. "More of this medicine and lots of rest. You need to be in bed for at least the rest of today!" I obey and let her put that smelly goo on my ribs and arm again.

-Later…..

Darkness has settled and the fire pops outside the hut. Sango and Miroku's conversation had died away a long time ago as both fell into slumber. Inuyasha perched in a tree above them, eyes shut, but nose and ears twitching every once in a while, listening for anything. His ears twitch and his eyes open. He looks to the forest.

"Kikyo?" he breathes and hops out of the tree and off into the forest.
