Chapter 12

Just When Things Are Looking Good…Death Comes Knocking

Things had been going smoothly, living with her mate in his palace. Kagome woke every morning in the arms of a strong, handsome demon, that would protect and love her always. With the pregnancy nearing it's end, and Kagome as big as a horse, holding those twin hanyou boys, Sesshoumaru became even more protective. He barely let his mate out of his site for more than two minutes. Shippo and Rin had come to adore the fact that their mother was going to give them two little boys to play with.

Kagome woke one morning with the deepest desire to visit Miroku, Sango, Kaede, and her family. But, there was always the risk of seeing Inuyasha…but now, Kagome didn't care. She had Sesshoumaru, and there is nothing Inuyasha can do about it.

With a purr, Kagome snuggled into the bare chest that was her heater and licked a nipple. A surprised moan met her ears and she licked it again.

"You can't possibly want to mate…You're too close to giving birth…what is it?" Sesshoumaru murmured softly. He was taking to the mated life well, becoming more open with his emotions and discarding his mask more than he ever had in his life.

"I would like to go see my friends and family…I haven't seen them in a long time…" Kagome whispered softly into his chest. She could feel him stiffen. "You can come with! I just need to see them before our children are born."

Silence. Then a kiss on the forehead.

"All right…we will leave today…" Sesshoumaru said softly. Happiness flooded his senses as Kagome wrapped him in a large, awkward hug. She places thousands of kisses down his chest, then on his lips, which he returned hungrily. God, he wanted her…but he was forced to control himself…at least till the pups were born.

That morning…

Kagome stood next to Sesshoumaru as Jaken and Rin stood across from them. Rin was giving her mother one last hug, having glomped Sesshoumaru's leg once too many times already. Jaken was muttering and got a growl from Sesshoumaru, shutting the toad up.

"We will return home soon with your two new siblings!" Kagome whispered to Rin as Shippo climbed onto his mother's back.

"Why can't Rin and I come?" Shippo asked, mournfully.

"I don't think you want to see a birth. Besides, Rin needs someone big and strong to watch over her," Kagome answered, with a grin. Shippo's face brightened. "And besides…You need to show smelly old Jaken that two little kids are worse than Rin!"

"Yea!" Shippo cried happily, then jumped off his mother's back, whispered to Rin, then both were off, laughing.

"That was evil of you, mate…" Sesshoumaru said softly, wrapping his tail around her.

"Oh, I know. I heard his muttering, so he had to pay for it," Kagome smiled lovingly at her mate, who picked her up and took to the sky, heading towards the east.

The Well (dusk)…

Kagome had already seen and spent the afternoon with Miroku and Sango, who were building their new house where Kagome's family shrine was. They had already started work on the main building, and it looked fantastic. Sango was helping, though she was about 3 months pregnant, and Miroku was still constantly teasing her. It was almost the same as it always was…except…Inuyasha was no where to be seen. When Sesshoumaru asked, seeing Kagome was wondering, Sango got a sad look on her face.

"He's been gone since before Miroku and I got back from our honeymoon. Kaede said he disappeared the day we left. Kagome's facade didn't change. She shrugged, then squeezed Sesshoumaru's hand. With that, the couple bid their farewells until later that night, and walked to the well.

Sesshoumaru was holding his mate close. He was afraid for her to go back. Something in the wind told him that this night was going to be a long, painful one.

"Sesshou…I'll be back soon, I promise! Then we can spend the rest of my short days here with Kaede, until the pups are born."

Sesshoumaru nodded, kissed the mating mark softly, then reluctantly released her.

"Return to me soon, beloved."

Kagome smiled, then, with the help of her love, jumped into the well.

Kagome's POV

I had arrived back to the feudal era sooner than I anticipated. Mother was so understanding, but she made me promise to bring Sesshoumaru home, and of course I promised! I wanted Sesshoumaru to have a wedding ceremony with me at the shrine, just to make it official in both worlds…plus, with the babies on the way, mom was over excited to hear she was going to be a grandma. I blushed at the size of my belly. I was only about three months into the pregnancy, and already I looked like I was 7 or 8 months into it. Smiling, I remembered what Sesshoumaru had said about hanyou children…how they only take 4 months to be born. I was nearing the 4th month deadline, and was lucky that my beloved had let me go home. Standing on the hill downwind, I knew Sesshoumaru would be there soon to pick me up. Little did I know, I was being watched from the trees.

Smiling, I saw my beloved coming to me from the shadows, and he smiled to me as well. Seeing him smile made my heart pound and I got shivers. Would he agree to come back with me until the pups were born?

As he neared, I felt myself becoming more nervous. My head went dizzy for a moment, then he was there, holding me.

"Sesshou…will you come back with me to live in my time for a while? I…I would like my mother to be there when the pups are born…and she can't pass through the well…" I let it spill before it ate at my innards. Sesshoumaru nodded and smiled at me. `He's agreeing! He will!!' I lost all remaining thoughts of dizziness as I launched myself at him, hugging him as tightly as I could with the package attached to my belly, and planted a firm passionate kiss on his soft lips.

Inuyasha's POV

I was sitting on the well, waiting for Kagome to return. I saw her and that slime of a mate arrive from a distance, and now that the slime was away, somewhere, I decided to wait for Kagome here. I smelt deeply, and her scent was off in the distance. `Kagome?' I sped off to go see. Creeping through the trees and then up into the branches of one to look at my Kagome standing in the meadow. When I was about to jump down and go see her, I noticed another figure moving towards her. Intrigued, I watched, waiting to see what would happen. Something about this seemed so familiar…

Sesshoumaru stopped in front of Kagome and soft words were exchanged. Suddenly, she launched herself on him and kissed him. My mouth clamped tightly down. `HOW COULD SHE?! HOW DARE SHE?! AFTER EVERYTHING I'VE DONE!' I could feel my eyes turning red as I stared at the two figures in the meadow, their lips locked in a passionate kiss, one of his hands crept up her shirt. Her moan of pleasure increased my anger as I tore from my spying place and ran to attack that damned man. Tetsaiga raged in my hands as I saw nothing but red. Tearing it down, Sesshoumaru vanished. Kagome stood there, screaming, tearing at her hair, pain rippling across her eyes. I suddenly realized what I had done and dropped Tetsaiga. Kagome screamed the three most hurtful words `I hate you.' Her words echoed through me as I felt myself go numb. I had just killed my brother… I had killed the man Kagome loved… I was the cause of her pain…

Normal POV…

Inuyasha stared in bewilderment at the spot Sesshoumaru last stood. He had shielded Kagome from the blast and had just…disappeared. Kagome stared as well, and then started screaming. She dropped to her knees and felt through the grasses for him, as if she had gone blind.

"I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU!! I HATE YOU!!!!!" Kagome screamed as she picked herself up and ran as fast as humanly possible when pregnant, to the well, and threw herself down it, just as Sango and Miroku had arrived by Inuyasha, who had fallen to his knees, tears glistening in his eyes.

"Inuyasha?! What happened?!" Sango asked, worried. Inuyasha lowered his head.

"Sesshoumaru is dead…"

Sango gasped, then fell into Miroku, shocked. Miroku held onto Sango tightly while looking at Inuyasha.

"What Happened?!" Miroku demanded.

The well…

"Kagome?" The sounds of her mother reached down into the well as Kagome slowly pulled herself out of it. Depression had set in…tears wouldn't stop.

"Oh mom!" Kagome sobbed, clutching her belly, and falling into her.

"Would he not come?" her mother asked softly.

"He's Dead!!" Kagome wailed, then cried out in pain. She had gone into labor.

"Grandpa! Souta! Come quick! Help me bring her inside!!" The shout was so distant…so far away…Kagome stared at them in a daze. Everything had gone numb…she had lost everything.
