4: It Begins

I stood there for what seemed like hours watching my fellow inus suffer before Kikyo appeared. I dove at her feet the tears streaming down my cheeks.

"My Lady, my sweet, beautiful, merciful Lady Kikyo, please! Spare them!" I cried and I groveled at her feet. "I beg of you, O merciful Mistress, please let their punishment stop!" I felt her stare boring through my skull, but then I could hear Sesshoumaru.

"My…Lady….please…..stop…" he cried as he writhed on the ground. He had caught on and I heard him stop crying out in agony.

"Please….my…..M-m-m-mistress!" Inu Yasha spat as he thrashed, caught up in his chain. His struggles stopped too.

"Good boys, Meinu, thank you for demonstrating," Kikyo chuckled and I looked up to see her standing there, empty handed, nothing, she had left just to hear them suffer. I fought the urge to attack her. "Clean their wounds and bring them something to eat." She walked off and I snarled at her back. I looked between the two, Inu Yasha was in worse condition and I quickly stripped him to the waist, I began to clean his wounds, licking them and holding them shut till they closed. His blood was sweet and delicious and I had to fight the urge to bite him and drink more. I checked him over and saw most of the damage was taken care of, but he was unconscious. I ran to Sesshoumaru and began the same process. I was licking a wound on the side of his neck, savoring his wine-like blood when he spoke, startling me. I had thought he was unconscious too.

"Why did you beg for us?" he asked and I continued to clean the wound. "Why bother, you made it clear you don't care." I stopped, holding the wound shut. I pulled back and looked him in the eye.

"I can't stand to see others suffer," I said and then began to clean a wound on his cheek. "Kikyo is demented and cruel, I don't know if you are any different, but you deserve a chance to prove yourself before I judge you." I closed his wound.

I returned from my hunt with six rabbits and I dropped three in each pen.

"Are you feeling better?" I asked as I stood on the wooden posts of the pens. I began to lick my arm clean of blood.

"A little," Inu Yasha grumbled as he picked up a rabbit. I suddenly realized how rude I had been.

"Oh…I didn't ask if you wanted anything cooked. I'm sorry, I can still take them to the kitchen if you like," I offered, I felt foolish. Sesshoumaru chuckled.

"No, my brother is picking because he prefers to kill himself," Sesshoumaru said as he ripped open a rabbit and began to eat. "Thank you, Meinu." I shook my head.

"No one calls me Meinu but Kikyo and a few of the wolves when they want to annoy me. Meiken is what most call me," I said as I turned to leave.

"Thank you, Meiken," Sesshoumaru said and I nodded.

"Anytime," I called back as I bounded away.

A fortnight passed faster than I anticipated, it helped that Kikyo was summoned to the village for an outbreak amongst the children.

I was playing with Shippo, Souta, and Rin when Kikyo returned.

"Meinu come with me," she ordered, not even looking at me. I walked to the training pens with Kikyo and sighed as she looked at the two.

"Meinu take them to the canine barn, a storm is coming and I do not wish them to get wet," she ordered and I bowed. "You will be in the barn as well Meinu, the manor is closed to all youkai, even yourself." I narrowed my eyes as she left.

"What did she mean by that?" Inu Yasha asked and I growled.

"She doesn't want me in the house…she's going to lock me out," I cursed as I unlocked their chains. "This way." I touched the door of the barn and removed my outer kimono, placing it in the doorway before taking them further into the barn.

"Meiken, wear some clothes please!" Ayame called from her stall, the four wolf bitches were kept in one stall, seeing as all three were pregnant and about to give birth. I ignored her and led Inu Yasha and Sesshoumaru to the last stall.

"This one is now yours," I said as I watched Shippo jump towards me.

"I'm to stay with Koga tonight," he said and I nodded. I walked over to Koga's stall and handed him the kit. "Kikyo said that you should sleep in the same stall as the other dogs." I snorted.

"Kikyo can tell me herself," I stated and many wolves muttered as I returned to Inu Yasha and Sesshoumaru's stall. I closed the door and it glowed with Miko energy.

"Think you're too good to sleep in the canine barn…aye…Meinu?" a voice teased and I picked up my kimono, dusting it off.

"Exactly," I stated and left quickly the doors shutting on their own, only to be opened from the outside. All the canines within were trapped otherwise.

I ran to Kagome's window and went to open it when my hands began to burn. I looked up to see the sutra placed on it. I growled…then the thunder clapped. The rain began to fall fast, soaking me to the bone before I could even move to the spare room's window. I went to every window I knew I could get in…each one know wore a sutra. I tried to jump on the roof only to have my feet burned by more sutras.

"Damn that bitch!" I snarled as I jumped to the ground. I ran into the woods and curled up in the God Tree growling to myself.

I finally gave up sulking in the God Tree after dark fell. The storm had not given up and I had nowhere else to go, even the God Tree could not prevent the rain from hitting me. I walked slowly back to the canine barn. This was embarrassing and for a moment I almost turned back to go to the God Tree but a bolt of lightning hit the ground right in front of me and I fell back against the barn's doors. They opened and I turned quickly entering before watching the doors close again.

"Look what the cat dragged in," someone called and I snarled. My long hair had long ago fallen free and was now hanging all around my waist. Long strands hid my face from view.

"Be nice, Meinu, it wasn't us who kicked you from your 'room'," someone else called and I sighed. There was no point in responding, they were getting their kicks and soon would get bored with no reaction.

"Meinu, why aren't you in the manor?" Koga called and several others shut up.

"Sutras…everywhere…there is no getting into or out of that building with demon blood," I stated. There were several murmurs.

"Pup, get out of those wet clothes, come in here the night and we'll give you something warm to wear" someone called and I ignored 'Momma' the oldest wolf bitch. She was carrying her twentieth litter and had helped raise me.

"No," I stated and I heard someone chuckle as I sneezed.

"Momma, you know better than to tell Meinu to do anything. She's more stubborn than a pack of mules," Ginta called and there were many laughs.

"Pup, I've handled stubborn children before and you're no different, change out of those," Momma growled and I flopped down on the pile of hay in the far side, it was fresh. I sniffed and stretched out before resting my hands behind my head.

"No, I don't need a wet nurse," I commented and closed my eyes as I pretended to sleep.

"You don't play that game with me young lady, you owe me a lot. It was I that kept you from ending up here after your first blood," Momma said and I turned red as I sat up.

"Don't you dare," I growled and Momma stood by the door of the bitch stall, one arm resting in the barred window out of the stall and the other resting over her large belly.

"Oh don't I? I remember the sounds you made that day…you would have thought Kikyo shot you with her miko energy," Momma began and I began to glare at her. "Then you had Koga and the rest of the males chasing you. I swear you must have run around the estate three hundred times before Kagome could get that protection spell on you." I wanted to die.

"I knew it! I should have just spent the night in the God Tree!" I cried as I got up and glared at the old wolf through the bars. "You want me to change! I'll CHANGE!" I snarled and then there was the rush of power as I let my youki go.

"Meinu! Stop it! You'll hurt yourself!" Koga cried and several others warned me. I concentrated on my size. Letting my hands and feet turn to paws. My fur sprouted everywhere. My teeth all grew long and sharp. My eyes glowed blue. My ears sharpened. My kimono fell to the floor.

"Amazing," someone muttered as I moved back and forth in front of the stalls. My fur a lovely mix of white and red-brown. I looked like an overgrown wolf, but I was an inu.

"So that's what you spent so much time in the woods doing," Koga whispered and many of the wolves nodded.

"It's the kitsune blood," Sesshoumaru stated and I nodded as I curled up in my hay pile again.

"What do you mean?" Koga asked.

"Kitsune youkai can change form, only those raised in captivity can't. Hybrids with kitsune blood can control their youkai forms better. Such as Meiken's size. I imagine without the collar she would be just under the side of the barn," Sesshoumaru stated.

"That's right, all of us would be large wolves, but we can't control our size, so we can't do it," someone else said.

"No fair! I wanna go wolf!" Ayame whined and I chuckled in dog form. Suddenly the door burst open.

"Meinu!" Kikyo growled her eyes wide in shock and I whimpered and I approached her. "Transform back now! You terrified me with that!" I quickly resumed my human form and went to reach for my clothes when she hit me with some miko energy. "No…get in that pen now!" I blushed as I entered the last stall with Sesshoumaru and Inu Yasha.

"If you do that transformation again, I will turn you into a rug!" she growled and I watched her go from behind the bars of the stall. The doors slammed shut.

"Nice trick, good way to piss Kikyo off," someone muttered.

"You've obviously been hiding some things under that kimono too!" a male shouted and I blushed as I covered myself and quickly curled up in a corner of the stall.

"Only with my luck," I groaned before curling up and going to sleep.
