A Past Revealed Ch. 5
Inuyasha awoke screaming for his mother. He was soon comforted by a hand gently petting his head and rubbing his ears in a soothing manner. With this action it caused him to settle down and regain a normal breathing pattern. He looked around and saw he was in Kainen's hut and that Kainen was the one that had his hand on his head.
"Mom?" Inuyasha looked questioningly at Kainen.
Inuyasha felt the hot moist tears form in his eyes as he saw Kainen shake his head. To Inuyasha the world had just ended. There was no one other than Kainen that cared for him anymore. His father and now his mother have both died. He again was left without happiness in the world. Inuyasha couldn't hold the tears back any longer. He rolled onto his side and buried his head into the pillow and cried. He cried for his mother, his father that he never knew, and he cried for every time he showed no reaction when he was beaten or called a filthy half breed.
Shiro couldn't say anything to the pup. There was nothing he could say. He had lost his mate and had done the same thing. He couldn't believe that someone so young should be forced to go through such an experience as loosing the ones he loved. Shiro just sat there and watched the boy cry until he had exhausted himself. When he was sure Inuyasha was sleeping, he again he laid down next to the boy and held him close.
It was that night when Shiro awoke that he decided he would let Inuyasha be on his own and not interfere with his life. He would let the boy grow and develop on his own. That way Inuyasha would get the advantage of looking after himself and not having to rely on others for protection. Sure Shiro would be there for him if he ever got into anything over his head, but other than that he wasn't going to interfere.

Inuyasha awoke to the smell of food. He got up and rubbed his reddened eyes. He looked around and saw Kainen putting food in a bowl and handing it to him. Inuyasha graciously took the bowl and soon had emptied it of its contents. He then began to stare at the fire and watch the burning embers.
Shiro ate through breakfast silently and when he finished he saw Inuyasha staring at the fire. At this Shiro told they pup that they were going to visit his mother's grave. He saw the pup's eyes look into his own.
"Her...her grave?" Inuyasha asked.
"Yes, while you were unconscious I buried her." Shiro said to the little hanyou.
They both made their way to the place were Inuyasha's mother was buried. It was a beautiful place, beneath an old shady tree. The grave was marked by a simple stone.
Shiro sat and told Inuyasha that it was okay to talk to her. That it was only natural to do so, but not to let it consume his life. It was to be a reminder, not a replacement. With that Shiro stood.
Inuyasha watched as Kainen rose to his feet.
"Inuyasha, I regret that I must leave you. I have an oath to fulfill and you will not be able to go with me. You may have my hut and all of my property." Shiro said, and soon walked into the woods.
The hanyou stood and began making his way to the village. He would use the hut until he was strong enough to travel on his own. When that time came he would leave this village and begin his search for his half brother Sesshoumaru.

Shiro watched the frantic seventeen-year old half demon run through the woods. It was almost sunset and it was the night of the new moon. Inuyasha had somehow managed to piss off a bear youkai and now was running through the woods looking for some place to hide. Though with his powers already weakening, he wasn't fairing too well.
He watched as Inuyasha jumped into a small crevice in a rock and covered himself with a limb from a tree. The youkai seemed to be confused for a while. It was then that he saw the sun set. He then got close enough to kill the youkai with just a swing of his sword. He had taken the ring off but had stayed far away from Inuyasha not to alert him to his scent.
Shiro then thought of his camp nearby and decided to let Inuyasha speak to "Kainen" after so many years. Shiro jumped down and began walking along the path to Inuyasha's hiding place, soon slipping on his ring and taking on the appearance of Kainen.
"Inuyasha, come out. I know you are there. It's alright I have slain the demon. Come with me to my camp, it's safe there, I assure you." Shiro called up to the crevice.
Inuyasha looked from his crevice and saw his friend from long ago, Kainen. He couldn't believe that he had finally run into him. It had been years since he had left him as a pup. Inuyasha finally came out of hiding, yes, Kainen had known of his secret before. He knew it was safe with the man.
As Inuyasha made his way down silently, Shiro decided to start a conversation to break the silence.
"Inuyasha, I see you finally have that powerful sword you were always wanting." He said with a smile.
Inuyasha just grunted a reply, as he sat down holding onto Tetsusaiga as it was his life line.
"Come now Inuyasha, don't you trust me." Shiro asked, a bit worried. "I haven't seen you for years and this is how you treat me. You do know I am truly sorry for leaving you. To tell you the truth I am not done with the matter in question. I still have my oath to fulfill."
"I....I have missed you Kainen." Inuyasha said finally.
"Kainen you were the best smith in that village. What do you think of my Tetsusaiga?" Inuyasha said holding his treasured sword out to him.
Inuyasha watched Kainen eye the sword as if it would strike him at any moment. When Inuyasha shoved it over to Kainen, he was startled as the man jumped away faster than he thought possible for a human. It was then Inuyasha noticed Kainen's hand smoking and then saw the burn marks.
Shiro jumped from the sword as it had shoved into his hand but it was to late. The barrier around the sword crackled to life as it rejected the demon. Shiro could only stare into the eyes of Inuyasha.
"Kainen, you.....you're a demon?" Inuyasha asked.
"Inuyasha, how could you say such a thing. You know me better than anyone. How could I be a demon?" Shiro asked, though it didn't do him any good.
Inuyasha just looked into the smith's eyes then rose to his feet. He retrieved Tetsusaiga and sat back down next to his friend. He didn't know what had happened, but Kainen was right - there was no way he could be anything but human.
"I believe I know what happened Inuyasha." Shiro said.
The young man listened to Shiro's explanation. He had said that it had something to do with smithing. That in demon swords only the smith who forged it would be able to wield it. It sounded right to Inuyasha and he took Kainen's word.
The two friends talked all night long catching up on old times, and soon Inuyasha had fallen asleep. It was most unusual for him to sleep on such a vulnerable night. It was probably the most peaceful sleep he had enjoyed since his mother died.

When Inuyasha awoke the next morning, he opened his eyes seeing the silver clouding his vision. He rejoiced that he was back to his hanyou state. It was then that he realized he was alone. Kainen must have gone early that morning. He rose and began to go about the rest of his life.

A/N: His mother's grave is where she was buried in anime.
Sorry it's so short everyone. Well, please give me an email telling me what you think. Next chapter I am planning will be about the military.
