InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ A Place of Their Own ❯ Chapter 1

Okay, this is my first attempt at writing an actual story, so please review, but don't be too cruel, please?
Also, I don't own any of the InuYasha characters... Just so ya'll know. I'm not that good. :)

Kagome Higurashi stepped off the loud train squinting her eyes through the dense, pouring rain. She looked for the man she had seen in all the pictures in the photo albums and the man who's picture she clutched when she went to bed every night for months after he left. She didn't see her father, yet, so she pulled her hood up higher over her already curling hair and let her thoughts run wild.
She thought about how upset she was when her mom said that she wouldn't be seeing her daddy anymore.

"Don't cry, Kagome. Daddy needs to go back home, to be with his mommy and daddy." Her mom had comforted her with soothing words. Eight year old Kagome tried to stifle her tears, but they came faster.
"But mommy, why did Daddy have to leave us?" Kagome's mom had never answered her, just pulled Kagome into her arms and held her there for what seemed like hours.

It wasn't until Kagome turned 10 that she found that her mother had wanted a divorce because Kagome's father loved his homeland too much to live so far away, in Japan with his wife. He and her mother loved eachother very much, but that love allowed them to let the other go so easily.
Kagome's mother had recently married a new man, Teriko, and that was one of the reasons that she had wanted to go see her father. Teriko had never actually done anything to her, but everytime Kagome was around him, she felt like her step father was undressing her with his eyes.
Kagome knew that her brother, Souta, would be safe, he refused to be alone with Teriko, but he acted as if he liked him for their mothers benefit. She thought she loved him so much, that her kids didnt want to ruin it for her.
Kagome was jolted out of her reverie when she heard a familiar voice calling her name. Her head jerked up and tears started to well up behind her eyes. She blinked them back, and smiled at her father whom she never expected to see again. She looked at her father, who looked a lot like Kagome, but with more masculine features. HIs eye was much darker than Kagome's deep green eyes, however.
His hair was a deep, wavy black that reached almost to his shoulders. His eyes were kind of unique. One of his eyes was a bright, vivid blue while the other was a deep brown. His left eye was so brown, in fact, that it looked almost black. That eye wasn't cold like most black eyes were, though. His, both the blue and brown, were warm and inviting as he pulled his daughter into his arms and gave her a warm, loving hug. He kissed the top of her head before holding her out at arms length.
"Well, look at you." He smiled and looked at his newly 18 year old daughter. Kagome was on the short side, only 5'1", and had his wavy, unruly black hair. Hers hung down to her waist. Her eyes were soft and gentle, but with a fiery spirit, just like her name and nature. "You're all grown. I missed you so much, Kitty Kat." He used his old pet name for her and pulled her into his embrace again.
"Oh, Daddy. I've missed you so much!" Kagome finally spoke past the tears clogging her throat and felt a few of the tears slide down her cheeks. "I was so happy when you sent me that letter asking me to come up."
Her dad, Patrick, led her to his black Camaro (yes, a camaro) and put her 2 duffel bags in the back while she climbed in the front. He turned to her and said, "Well, are you ready to see the house? I have a room just for you, its got a great view, too. My ranch hand, InuYasha, is great with horses, and I even have a horse especially for you. InuYasha can show you your horse when we get home." Her dad turned to her and smiled.
"Great, Dad. I would love my own room, and I can't wait to meet InuYasha and my new horse." Kagome smiled and laid her head back against the seat. She was soon asleep.
