A Time For Healing
Chapter Four
Mrs. Higurashi walked quietly down the hall to check on her daughter. The scene she walked in on was far from expected. Inuyasha was sitting on the bed, his back against the wall, with Kagome cradled in his arms. He was fast asleep.Chapter Four
Mrs. Higurashi smiled at the sight of the two sleeping teens. What had happened to cause this change? Had they not been the worst of enemies this morning? She thought about this as she left them sleeping to call Mr. Taisho.

Inuyasha woke up to the sound of a door opening, and looke dup to see Kagome’s mom walking towards the bed.
“Oh, good morning, Inuyasha. Are you hungry?”
“Morning?”
“Yes. Don’t worry, I called your dad.”
“Thanks.”
“Can you wake her up? I’ll go get you something to eat.”
“No problem.”
Inuyasha watched her leave and glanced down at the girl in his ams. She looked so peaceful, like she was free from the past that so painfully haunted her everyday. Carefully, he shook her shoulders and smiled when she opened her eyes. “Mornin’.”
“Why are you here?”
Inuyasha chuckled at her choice of words. “That was hardly a greeting.”
“But I meant it.”
“You fell asleep, and I didn’t want to disturb you.”
“Okay, I’ll buy that.” she said, smiling slightly.
“So you’re not gonna murder me or anything, right?”
“No.”
“So what were you dreaming about yesterday? You scared us.”
“Nothing.” she said. She sounded sincere, but she didn’t look at him when she answered.
“Come on. You wouldn’t have screamed like that about nothing.”
“I could have.”
“That’s true, but something was wrong. We could see it in your face. That was no ordinary dream.”
“I…was dreaming about…that night. It was the first time in forever.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
Kagome moved to sit at the head of the bed. She glanced at him, but looked back down at the floor. “Do you promise to let me finish with no interruptions?”
“Don’t worry.”
“And you can’t tell a soul.”
“Promise.”
“I’m only telling you this because I think I owe you an explaination.”
“Okay.”
Kagome looked at the door, then focused her attention out the window as she began. “It was our Freshmen year of high school. I was going home from the homecoming dance. Because my date had to leave early, I had to walk home. I felt safe on that path to my house, but…”
Kagome paused and took a breath. She hadn’t told anyone but her mom. Now she was about to tell the one person, that at first she felt, didn’t deserve to know.
“So, I was walking home and I knew someone was following me. I was halfway there, when someone grabbed my arm and pulled me into an old alleyway. I looked up and saw that there were more than one of them, but I couldn’t make out their faces. They threw me down against a brick wall at the end of the alley. I looked up again, and saw you stop by the road, and than walk off.”
Inuyasha felt what could only be described as regret when she looked at him while saying that last sentence. “Kagome…” He had never realized that it was her. He thought that it was another one of the group’s whores.
“No…let me finish”
Inuyasha nodded.
“I finally realized who it was. It was Kouga’s group. Well some of them. Kouga pulled a knife, while Naraku and Sesshoumaru held me down. I knew that it was useless to fight them. Kouga sliced my clothes, then tossed the knife to Sesshoumaru. I made the mistake of screaming when I saw a cop walk past the end of the alley. They heard the cop coming back and Sesshoumaru told me I wouldn’t get away that easily. He sliced my hip with the knife and ran off. The cops found me and called my mom. We never pressed charges.”
As she finished, Inuyasha saw a tear slide down he face. “You mean that it was
my bastard of a brother that did that?”
She nodded and stood up. “I never told the cops.”
“Why? They would’ve put them in jail. You wouldn’t have to look at them everyday.”
“I didn’t want everyone to know.”
“People found out anyway. They just didn’t know who the girl was. Kouga bragged about the rest of the year.”
“ That’s why I never told. He twisted the story, daring me to tell anyone. He said that I was just another one of his whores, that no one would believe me.”
Inuyasha pulled her into a hug before she could protest. “I’m so sorry…if I had known…”
Kagome felt the tears welling up in her eyes. He was truly sorry and she could tell. Burying her face in his chest, she let the tears fall. She wrapped her arms around him and felt him shudder. She looked up at him and saw unshed tears lingering in his eyes.
Inuyasha wiped her tears away as he let his roll down his cheeks. She had been through so much and he had been, unknown to himself, tied up in the middle of it. She watched her attackers go on with their lives everyday. She reached up to wipe his tears away. He leaned down, and when she didn’t pull away, placed a gentle kiss on her lips.
It was chaste but sweet and Kagome finally returned it. When they ended the kiss, Kagome rested her head against his chest again. Inuyasha rubbed her back soothingly as they stood there.
Mrs. Higurashi walked in just before she saw Inuyasha kiss Kagome. She didn't make a sound in fear of interrupting the sweet moment. When they finally pulled away from each other, she made her presence known. "Breakfast's ready."
"We'll be right down." answered Kagome, who was blushing slightly.
"Okay I'll be downstairs." said Mrs. Higurashi as she walked out.
"How much do you think she saw?" asked Inuyasha, whose color matched Kagome's.
"Enough. Anyway, I have to get dressed, so I'll meet you in the kitchen."
"Okay. See you in a few." Inuyasha then left so Kagome could dress. Maybe, he thought, I can speak to her mom about a few things.
