InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ A Time For Healing ❯ Chapter 3

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
A/N: If anyone's wondering about the title change, it's because I changed my mind about the direction of the story. The beginning will stay the same and it will grow from that. This nine weeks at school is going to be hectic. We have track meets, baseball, softball, tennis, I have state science fair. In other words, the updates will be a little farther apart. Only 8 weeks until summer break though.

A Time For Healing
Chapter Three

Kagome ran to her house as fast as she could. She ignored her mother's questions as she bolted up to her room, slammed the door, and locked it. She threw herself down on her bed and cried.

"Inuyasha, where'd Kagome go?" asked Mr. Taisho when he returned from his house.

"She left."

"And she went where...?"

"Don't know."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, I'm sure dad. I'm going home."

"Come on then. I'll call Mrs. Higurashi and see if she knows where Kagome is."

~?~?~?~?~?~?~?~

"Dad, is she okay?" asked Inuyasha as his dad hung up the phone.

"Yes, she'll be okay. But, I want to know exactly what happened. You must have done something for her to cry like her mom said she's done."

Inuyasha looked at the floor and shook his head.

"What happened?"

"Dad, I don't know. She seemed happy. I thought that she might have been over it."

Mr. Taisho looked into his sons deep purple eyes and frowned at the upset that lingered on his face. "Gotten over what?"

"She was the one."

"That Kouga's...?"

Inuyasha nodded and turned to leave the room.

"You couldn't have stopped them."

"No, but I could have tried." he said as he walked up the stairs.

Mr. Taisho sat at the table long after Inuyasha went to bed. He had never seen his son this upset. There was no way he could have stopped them though. There were too many of them. But maybe, Inuyasha and Kagome could help each other. Inuyasha would have to explain a lot, and sure it wouldn't be easy, but it was possible. It was only a matter of time.

"Kagome, you need to come down and eat."

"Bring it up here."

Mrs. Higurashi sighed. "Come on."

"No."

"It would help if you would talk to me."

"No."

The sound of the doorbell interrupted their 'conversation'. Mrs. Higurashi walked off to answer the door.

"Oh, hello Sango. Inuyasha, what are you doing here?"

"I wanted to see Kagome so I hitched a ride."

"I'm not so sure that she wants to see you right now."

"I can understand that."

"Sango, do you think that you could get her to talk?"

"I'm not sure, but I can try."

"Okay. If you could do that, I need to speak with Inuyasha."

"Yes ma'am." said Sango as she walked off to Kagome's room.

"Inuyasha, follow me."

He followed her outside to a small bench in the center of a garden. He sat down and stared at the ground, waiting for her to talk, unwilling to look her in the eye.

"What did you do to my daughter." asked Mrs. Higurashi in a soft voice. A voice that was associated with a mother's anger and upset. "She's been through enough."

"I know. I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking."

"What did you do?"

"She laid down and pulled her shirt up a little to help her cool off. I saw the scar and recognized it and opened my big mouth. I'm sorry."

"What happened to the uncaring, egotistical boy that Kagome complained about so much?"

"It doesn't surprise me that she thinks about me like that.?"

"Why?"

"That's how I've acted since my mom died when I was in eighth grade. I moved to this school and I created a new image for myself. Then, there was the Kouga thing our Sophomore year. I thought that maybe I would forget."

"How are you involved in that?"

Just as Inuyasha was about to respond, they heard a scream, a horrified scream, Kagome's scream. Both of them jumped up and ran towards Kagome's room.

~?~?~?~?~?~?~?~

'She was huddled in a corner. They were surrounding her. She could hear their footsteps, their hevy breathing. She glanced up and realized who they were, but one of them was missing. She saw a slight flicker of light at the end of the alley, and looked to see what it was. She saw him glance down the alley, take a step towards them, and turn and walk off. They were closer now she could feel one's bresth on her cheek.'

Kagome woke herself up with her own scream. Sango was Standing in her doorway, and somebody was coming up the stairs. The next thing she knew, her mom and Inuyasha ran in.

"Are you okay? What happened?" asked her mom with a concerned look on her face.

"It was just a nightmare."

"Inuyasha wants to talk to you."

"I don't want to talk to him."

Inuyasha turned to leave the room, but Mrs. Higurashi stopped him. "Please hear him out. It won't hurt anything. Sango come with me, we'll fix everyone a plate." she aid as she left.

"Will you just hurry up, say what you have to say, and leave? You've already brought back enough memories."

"I'm sorry." he said as he walked a little closer.

"Is that all?"

"Yeah."

Kagome kicked off the blankets and stood up. She was a little shaky, probably from lack of food. "Are you okay?"

She was pale. He saw her sway and moved just in time to catch her just as she fainted. He sat down on the bed and pulled her into his lap as he tried to wake her.

Kagome woke up and realized that she was being held, but ahe didn't say anything. Inuyasha noticed her movements and shifted a little. "You okay?"

Kagome realized what had happened and began to cry.

"Don't cry." he said, pulling her into a gentle embrace.

She wrapped her arms around him and began sobbing on his shoulder as he tried to calm her.
