Author's Note: First, sorry about the slow update! I kinda got off track and addicted to a few things: TrueBlood (HBO and Book series), Nana (manga), Skip Beat (manga), and I got to go to Chicago to see Dir En Grey Live!(so amazing if you ever get a chance to see them). I also had a chance to hang out with my friends on my days away from baby :) Which also distracted me from my writing. Also, this chapter was a little hard to get through because it is mostly information and filler. Second, I hope to be making the chapters longer after this one....HOPEFULLY! And I'm not sure about the updating. I know I said I would try to get a chapter a week out, but, yeah, that failed miserably...maybe it's the lack of reviews *shrugs* But, I will hopefully be getting a chapter out at least once a month.
Lastly, I would like to thank my reviewers:
kagomesdouble07 - for being a true reviewer. Thank You! And about Yash's dad...all will be revealed eventually. hehe
essie - for being demanding ^^ Thanks for that, it got me off my ass for a while
Bluesavorqueen - Here's the update...hope it's okay
Chapter 4
After Kagome had all but thrown Yash out of her apartment that morning, she had to hurry to get dressed and ready for her day. She was hoping that her tiff with Yash was going to be the worst part of the day, but she knew things were going to get worse at school. She should probably just keep her mouth shut about things, but her “friend” Eri always had a way of getting her to talk about her guy problems. Maybe it was because Eri was still trying to get her to go out with Hojo, and sure, Hojo was a nice enough guy; he was just boring as hell. Just thinking about him droning on and on about school and health issues was already giving her a headache.
Kagome sighed as she hurriedly brushed her hair and checked her appearance in the mirror before heading out the door, backpack in hand. She loved living just a few blocks from her school, it made life that much easier, especially when Yash visited and she had little to no time left in the morning to get ready. ‘Of course, most of the time it was for different reasons than today’ she blushed at her own thought. She pushed her way through the crowded streets as she ran to school. Keeping an eye on her watch to make sure she had plenty of time to make it to her first class. As she finally reached the school grounds, she stopped running and took a long, ragged breath.
Hoping to avoid her entourage, she jogged to the cafeteria. Checking her watch again to make sure she was reading it right, she went to get something to eat and drink (since her breakfast with Yash had failed horribly). After paying the cashier, she sat down in a corner table, although she was the only one there. She opened up her packaged muffin and took a giant bit as she pulled out the first book she grabbed from her backpack. “Hm, history is so boring,” Kagome groaned as she opened the textbook. She opened her milk and took a swig of it before looking down at the page she had turned to. The page held a beautiful hand drawn picture of an Inugami. The giant white dog (which was snarling) towered over a few villages, as the villagers seemed to be in chaos and only a few had weapons trying to fend off the spirit. Kagome looked at the caption below the picture that had captured her entire mind, wanting to know more about it. “An Inugami’s true form is that of a giant dog. Although it is not known whether all Inugami look the same when in this form is unknown. Of course, the common form is humanoid. They usually bare some markings and have pointy ears and claws.”
“What’s you reading, Kags?”
The sudden intrusion shook Kagome from her fascination with the picture. “Uh, just reading up on history, since that’s my worst subject.” She looked up at her friend Ayumi.
“I don’t understand how you can be so horrible at it when you come from a shrine.” Ayumi set her books on the table, leaning over to see what exactly had her friend’s attention. Kagome quickly shut the book, putting it away. “I mean, wasn’t this all part of your background.”
Kagome shrugged. “I guess. I just learned how to block Grandpa out. He had a habit of always talking about odd things at dinner or while giving me a birthday present.” She finished off her muffin and milk and looked at her watch. “Crap, I gotta get going or I’m gonna be late for my class!”
“Um, alright. Are you gonna meet us for lunch?”
“Probably,” Kagome shouted over her shoulder. Although, she really didn’t want to, it would be rude to skip lunch with her friends, and even though she always complained about the girls, she really did have fun with them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After suffering through science, Kagome heaved her backpack on her shoulder and slumped out of the classroom. She was actually looking forward to eating and gossiping after that surprise quiz. She knew she should’ve studied last night. “Stupid Yash!” she grumbled to herself as she headed off campus and around the corner to WacDonald’s. She saw them sitting by the window and went to join them.
“Kagome, we missed you this morning,” Yuka said before taking a fry.
“Yeah, you were with that guy again, weren’t you?” Eri piped up, giving Kagome a glare.
Kagome sighed. “What’s it to ya? He’s not doing any harm, so just leave him alone.”
“He is to! Just look at you. I can instantly tell whenever he visits ‘cause you always look like hell the next day. Besides, if he was really serious about you I think we should’ve met him by now.”
Kagome picked up a hamburger from the pile and unwrapped it. “He’s just busy, okay. He said he was trying to work things out so he could be with me. It’s just taking him longer than he expected.” Finishing her explanation, she took a bite out of the burger.
“Mmhm, that’s what he tells you, but seriously, after three years a man should already be a part his woman’s life.” Eri took a bite of her own burger and chewed it as she thought of what to say next. “That’s why I think Hojo would be so much better for you. I mean, he’s loyal, he’s smart, he’s already got a job lined up at a hospital when he gets his doctorate.”
“Eri, if you like the boy so much, why don’t you go out with him? Honestly he’s not my type. He’s so boring.”
“Oh, so you like the type that wants nothing to do with you unless you’re having sex? Does that excite you?” Eri all but shouted. Kagome blushed heavily and hid her face from the people that were now staring at their table. Yuka and Ayumi giggled at the outburst, and Eri just reached for another fry.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Kagome cried. “I told you it wasn’t like that.”
“You say that, but I know, Kagome. I’ve been in your situation before, and it brings nothing but trouble,” Eri told her seriously.
“You never told us that,” Yuka said, a little stunned.
“Well, it was back in high school,” Eri admitted softly. “I didn’t even know what I was really doing. I was just trying to be a grown up.”
“Well,” Kagome interjected, “I think I know exactly what I’m doing. And I know that I can trust him, even if he does only stop by for a day.” She grabbed another burger from the rapidly declining pile and stood up. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got classes to get to.”
“Kagome,” Eri called and waited for said person to turn and look at her. “I know it’s hard, but I think you really should rethink your situation.”
Kagome looked down at the floor. “Maybe, if I ever see him again.” And with that Kagome headed out the doors and back to school.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
< br> After surviving the rest of her classes, she made her way to the hospital. She was ready for the change in scenery and hopefully some better advice than what her friends had offered earlier. She sighed heavily as she made her way to the locker room to get changed.
“Hey, Kags, why you looking so down?”
She looked up at her boss as she tied her shoes on. “Eh, you know, boy problems, friends trying to help with said boy problems.”
“Ha-ha, like I would know about boy problems. You know I haven’t had a date in well over a year,” the older woman replied cheerfully. Her black-brown hair that was tied in a high ponytail swung from side to side as she laughed.
“It’s not funny, Sango. Eri even brought up something from high school. As if high school relationships are the same as adult relationships. Gah, sometimes I just can’t stand that girl, always thinking she’s so superior to the rest of us. Telling us what’s right and wrong when she’s made too many mistakes to even count,” Kagome rambled on as she threw all her extra things in a locker and slammed it shut. “I just…don’t know what to do anymore. I mean, what do you think? Should I just let him walk away?”
“Ah, so he did show up. I thought you were walking a little funny today,” Sango laughed even more at her own joke, but suddenly stopped as she saw the look on her friend’s face. “I’m sorry, ‘Gome.” Sango moved closer to the younger girl, who was almost like a sister, and pulled her into a hug. “I didn’t mean to say anything to offend you.” She felt the girl nod into her shoulder. “Honestly, though, if you love the man that much, I think you should definitely fight for him.”
Kagome clung to Sango for dear life, afraid she was going to fall if she wasn’t holding onto something. “Thank you. That’s the nicest thing I’ve heard all day.” Kagome finally pulled away, wiped her face, and looked at her friend again. Sango was definitely NOT a girl, she was all woman. Sango was only a few years older than Kagome. She had a nice athletic build…board shoulders, slim waist, hips, and nice legs. Sango’s breasts were just a little larger than her own, and she had nice chocolate eyes. Unfortunately it was Sango’s attitude that drove all the men away from this lovely, and quite lively woman. She was a major tomboy: playing sports, she was able to hold her liquor, she even had a giant boomerang she liked to toss around(her ancestors were demon slayers and Sango wanted to keep the tradition alive…just in case). Plus, she pretty much told anyone anything straight forward. She didn’t like to play around and be nice to anyone, and Kagome had learned that the hard way her first day at work.
Sure Kagome was studying to be a nurse, had learned all about medicine and diseases, she had even seen so many horrifying pictures that she sometimes had nightmares. Of course looking at a picture and seeing it first hand were on two very different levels. On her first day of internship, she had thrown up twice and almost fainted. Sango had yelled at her to either shape up or get out, and like a fool, Kagome had tried to reason with the crazy nurse only to get chewed up even more. Kagome had come to find out the next day that Sango’s craziness is what had gotten her promoted to head nurse, and Kagome had not been surprised at all. Sango had approached her that next day as well and apologized for yelling, but still insisted that the young girl get a hold of her stomach because there was no room for weakness in this line of business. Kagome was stilled a little pissed but agreed that she would work harder on becoming stronger, and after a month of working together the two girls had become best friends and had been for two years now.
“Well then, are you ready to get to work?” Sango asked seriously.
“Definitely, it’ll help get my mind off things. Maybe I’ll forget all about him.” Kagome smiled slightly.
Sango gave a hearty laugh and slapped Kagome on the back. “Maybe after work we can go out and get some drinks to celebrate.”
“And maybe find you a man while we’re at it,” Kagome snickered.
“Keep that talk up and I’ll leave ya high and dry.” Sango rolled her eyes at the girl. “But, if you seriously wanna go out tonight just let me know before my shift ends.”
“Alright. I’ll think about it.” Kagome nodded as she headed out to work. Throwing herself into her work, she forgot all about Sango’s offer. Her mind was too preoccupied with thoughts of Yash and what she should say next time he came by or called.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Pay attention, boy,” his father hissed in his ear. “I went through a lot of trouble to find you a suitable mate. You will not embarrass me.”
Inuyasha folded his arms across his chest and sighed. He had tried to escape this torture, but his father had caught on at the last minute. Of course he couldn’t be punished before his big meeting, so the threats had been going on for the last two hours. “Oh, Inu.” The crazy bitch reached out to touch his hair once more. Inuyasha swore to himself that if she touched him one more time he would not be responsible for his actions. “I can’t wait ‘til our mating.”
“Yeah, me neither,” Inuyasha said dully and getting hit on the back of the head once more. Inuyasha sat up a little straighter. “I will make it the most memorable night of your life.” Inuyasha just about choked on the cheesy line. What he wouldn’t give to just reach over and choke the crazy demon herself. He had no idea where his father had found this woman, but there was no in hell he was mating with her. She fucking crazy. She kept invading his personal space and touching his hair. Sometimes she would sniff it and rub it across her check. ‘Fucking insane bitch.’ He shuddered as the demon woman, Yura, reached out to stroke his hair again. Inuyasha grabbed her hand and gave her a warning growl.
Yura gave him a shocked look and took her hand back. “Your hair is so beautiful and soft. I will not let it go to waste.” She gave him a small smirk.
“Glad to know you care about my hair that much. Is there anything else that I should know. What other kind of crazy obsessions you have.”
Yura gave him a laugh. She looked at Tashio and said, “you sure did make a fine son. I can not believe my luck.” She looked back at Inuyasha and winked, letting her tongue slid across her lips.
Inuyasha just about threw up at her pathetic attempt at being seductive. Kagome didn’t have to do anything sexy to get his lower half riled up. This woman, he was betting, couldn’t even get him started if she threw off all of her clothes and got down on all fours. “Inuyasha,” his father’s voice broke him from the disturbing thoughts, “your future mate is asking you a question.”
“Sorry,” he mumbled, before giving his attention to the petite demon across the table. “What would you like to know.”
“Do you find me a suitable mate or would you rather keep looking?”
The woman was challenging him! Her eyes set to his, daring him to lie. Inuyasha swallowed. “You will have to do,” he said flatly, trying not to sound too shaken.
Taisho stood and bowed. “I’m sorry my son does not have manners. And I am very grateful that you are willing to take him in, knowing what he is.”
Inuyasha looked at his father with a scowl on his face, while Yura just giggled and stood as well. “I am not the pickiest of demons. Your son has very fine hair and is not bad on the eyes. I am glad to take him off your hands.” Yura glanced at the boy as he stood and adjusted his suit jacket. She could not wait to get her hands on that silk he called hair.
“Thank you for taking time out to see us today and have approved.” Taisho made his son bow at the woman. “He should be behaved for the mating process.”
“Just don’t go overboard. I like’em a little rough.”
There went his gag reflex again. ‘Kagome, Kagome, Kagome. I will get to you.’ It was a mantra he been chanting all day…hell, since he had been basically kicked out of her apartment. Inuyasha grabbed the woman’s hand she had stuck under his nose and brushed his lips across it. He was definitely going back to his room and sanitizing his tongue with scolding water. “It was a pleasure, and am looking forward to our joining.”
“I’ll be thinking of you,” Yura said softly as she pulled her hand back and gave a small wave to Taisho before heading out.
Inuyasha looked up at his father as the demon left their view. “She is fucking insane, father. How could you ever think that letting me mate with that would be a good idea! I mean, the only thing she can think about is my hair.”
Taisho growled, his head snapping down to make his threat clear. “You are my son and you will do as I tell you. I told you I would beat you to an inch of your life to get you mated.”
“Fine,” he growled, “but don’t expect me to come willingly. I will put up a fight, so I hope you’re ready to take me on, old man.” Inuyasha turned to walk away.
“Is there a woman that’s that important to you?” Taisho ground out, not wanting to believe that his son was seeing someone on the outside. He didn’t know if he had the heart to take out his own son, but the laws demanded it.
Inuyasha froze in his steps, but not turning back. “Keh! Like any bitch would love me for me.” He stomped his way out of the room, leaving his father alone.
Taisho let out a breath of relief. ’At least he hasn’t revealed his true self to anyone.’ So, for now, he wouldn’t have to worry about killing anyone and he could focus on keeping an eye on his son before the mating night.
There went his gag reflex again. ‘Kagome, Kagome, Kagome. I will get to you.’ It was a mantra he been chanting all day…hell, since he had been basically kicked out of her apartment. Inuyasha grabbed the woman’s hand she had stuck under his nose and brushed his lips across it. He was definitely going back to his room and sanitizing his tongue with scolding water. “It was a pleasure, and am looking forward to our joining.”
“I’ll be thinking of you,” Yura said softly as she pulled her hand back and gave a small wave to Taisho before heading out.
Inuyasha looked up at his father as the demon left their view. “She is fucking insane, father. How could you ever think that letting me mate with that would be a good idea! I mean, the only thing she can think about is my hair.”
Taisho growled, his head snapping down to make his threat clear. “You are my son and you will do as I tell you. I told you I would beat you to an inch of your life to get you mated.”
“Fine,” he growled, “but don’t expect me to come willingly. I will put up a fight, so I hope you’re ready to take me on, old man.” Inuyasha turned to walk away.
“Is there a woman that’s that important to you?” Taisho ground out, not wanting to believe that his son was seeing someone on the outside. He didn’t know if he had the heart to take out his own son, but the laws demanded it.
Inuyasha froze in his steps, but not turning back. “Keh! Like any bitch would love me for me.” He stomped his way out of the room, leaving his father alone.
Taisho let out a breath of relief. ’At least he hasn’t revealed his true self to anyone.’ So, for now, he wouldn’t have to worry about killing anyone and he could focus on keeping an eye on his son before the mating night.
