8: Betrayal

The dark haired woman sat in the hanyou's lap carelessly twirling a strand of his hair around her fingers. "Onigumo…" "Yes, Kikyo?" Kikyo straightened in Onigumo's lap. "What are you planning?" Naraku gently pushed Kikyo off of his lap and stood up smirking. "You play a part in this, love. You are to convince Inuyasha to steal the Shikon no Tama and to take over the Western Lands. After that, you kill him and we can become mates. You must give me the Shikon no Tama in advance. We will rule the entire world, starting with the Western Lands." Kikyo glared at the evil hanyou angrily. "What of my body of flesh and bones?" "If you were to become a human, you would die in a few years. The body that currently hosts your soul does not age." Naraku answered reassuringly. "Now, you must return to the hanyou. He is searching for you."

Inuyasha looked down at the woman in his arms. "Kikyo, where were you? I was worried." "I…was going to collect some herbs when Naraku showed up and started reminding me about…" The corrupted miko broke down as tears ran down her pale face. "Wh-What's wrong, Kikyo?" "One day, I was watching Kaede while my mother was cooking. Lord Sesshomaru ran in and said that he had heard about the birth of a powerful miko and planned to kill her. My father and my mother both died protecting me. My mother was a miko, too, so using the last of her energy, she threw a shield around me. Kaede was about to be killed, but then I got really mad and my miko powers came to me."

"He did what?! I am going to kill him!" Kikyo looked down sadly. "No, Inuyasha. You do not need to do that for me… Besides, the only true vengeance would be to take his lands." "Then that is what I'll do after I get the Shikon no Tama." Inuyasha vowed.

Back in his hideout, Naraku sat in the room with Kanna. "Kanna, that will do." The scene in the mirror faded until it was merely a mirror of reflection. Naraku chuckled to himself. "My, how easily Inuyasha is fooled. He is almost as easy to fool as Kikyo was."
