InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Afraid to Love ❯ Down on Earth ( Chapter 12 )
12: Down on Earth
The youkai bowed and looked up with a smirk upon his face. `So, this is my reincarnation…' Sachimaru thought. "Do you have experience as a servant?" Sesshomaru asked suspiciously. He remembered this demon and this scent from somewhere… The youkai smiled. "No, Lord Sesshomaru." Sesshomaru began to walk in circles around the man, inspecting everything from his white kimono to the green on his forehead. "You are a youkai of the forest. Why do you belittle yourself to become a servant? Why do you not ask to become a part of the army?" Sachimaru, unlike others, did not shift uncomfortable under Sesshomaru's gaze. "My father died in war. I will not do the same."
"So, your life is more important than these lands?" Sesshomaru inquired. "There are many others who would be proud to die in war, but I could not leave my mother and father like that. I have been told that you are not cruel to your servants and they receive pay, so I came for a way to heal my ailing mother." Sachimaru lied. " A servant should respect their master, yet you seem unafraid of me." `Hmmph… I immortal!' "Some could respect you for your kindness and some could respect you for your power, Lord Sesshomaru." Sesshomaru, satisfied with Safumaru (aka Sachimaru) nodded. `What to do… What to do…' Sachimaru thought. Then, his eyes lit up. `Let's see if my reincarnation is truly that stubborn…' He strode over to the servant behind Sesshomaru, Kagome, and tilted her head upwards with two fingers.
"My, what is a beauty like you doing here as a servant? For you, I would decline this offer and you could become my mate… You seem to be in heat and as a miko, you will bear me strong, healthy, full-blooded pups." `She looks so much like Midoriko.' Sesshomaru growled as his eyes bled red. Why did every male that came in want to mate with what was his?! His claws lengthened but he fought to control himself. `Forest youkai blood does not wash off easily…' "Safumaru, as a servant, you will refrain from touching what is mine. Now, another servant will be leading you to the servant's quarters to meet Jaken." he hissed. Safumaru backed away from Kagome and nearly broke into a run as he made for the servant's quarters. `I may be immortal, but I don't want to get hurt and have to wait to heal…' he thought.
Sango undid the bandages on the last wolf demon and saw that the wounds had fully healed. The demon stood to join the rest of the pack. Sango bowed and said "Thank you all for your assistance." Ginta smiled sadly. "Do not thank us, Lady Sango, for we were not of help. We were all taken down by a single swing of his blade. Why is it that you were able to move?" "Tetsusaiga was forged to protect a human. The blade itself cannot harm humans, but…it was once broken by a shade of Naraku, so Inuyasha's own fang was used as the bridge. Inuyasha intended to harm us, but his father's fang could not, so I suppose that his fang had harmed us and both his and his father's had harmed your entire pack."
The pack nodded in understanding. "I sincerely apologize for the death of your leader, Koga…" Sango whispered. Ginta had been chosen to be the new leader, since he had always been second-in-command. "It is not your fault, Lady Sango, so there is no need to apologize. Koga was a wonderful leader, but you have lost two people that you care for. Although Koga is gone, his offer still stands. If you ever need help at all, we will come. Thank you for healing out wounds. Remember, all you need to do is call…" Ginta said. He gave Sango one final smile and the ookami-youkai pack sped off to their den.
Sango looked down at herself. She had been trying to hold back the pain, emotionally and physically. The physical pain would heal in a few days, thanks to Kaede, but she knew that she would always miss Miroku and Shippo. She would always cherish the moments that they had shared. She felt a comforting pat on her rear and whirled around to knock the offender unconscious, while inside, she hoped that Miroku was, somehow, still alive. She would even bear his child if he would just come back, but it was too late. She looked down and saw that it had been Kirara's tails that had accidentally brushed against her.
Kirara was still hurt, in fact, she had as many bandages as Sango did. She was currently unconscious from Kaede's painkiller. She had been growling the entire morning from pain. Sango lay down on the futon. What lay ahead for her? Miroku was gone, Kohaku was gone, Inuyasha was gone, Kagome was gone, and Shippo was gone. She had failed Miroku. Shippo had been killed and the Shikon no Tama had been taken. The Shikon Jewel was complete, so Kohaku was dead, as was Miroku. Kagome…she was nowhere to be seen. Inuyasha, he was…he was…not Inuyasha. Kagome had always been the one that held the group together, and things changed after she had left. No one was here to comfort her except for Kirara. It was like when she had first met Inuyasha and the others. She had only had Kirara. Kirara had been her everything. She had thought that her brother was dead and all she wanted was revenge. Kagome, Inuyasha, Shippo, and Miroku had been like a part of her family. When did everything go wrong?
Kikyo smirked at the sleeping Inuyasha. Yes, she knew that it was Naraku that had turned her against him, but Naraku only did that because he loved her, right? She clutched the Shikon no Tama around her neck on the same silver chain that had been around the neck of her reincarnation. She could make a wish now so that she could be human and have flesh and blood, or she could live for thousands of years with Naraku, ruling the entire world. Inuyasha tossed in his sleep. "Kikyo…I love you… Why?" He was dreaming about the day that had left him pinned to a tree for fifty years. Kikyo sighed. She had to admit, she had been in love with Inuyasha. She had been willing to spend the rest of her life with him. Now, she was more alive than she had ever been. She would never age at all… Everything was so much better now. All she had to do…was wait for Naraku to retrieve the Shikon no Tama.
Naraku casually leaned against the wall, even as the flesh bubbled and hissed before him. He stood and walked over to it to peer inside. "Ah, Sesshoyoukai, you are taking more time than I expected, but I'm sure that it will be for the best." He walked back over to where he had previously sat and pictured Sesshoyoukai. Sesshoyoukai would be the most powerful of them all and no one could stop his plan, not even Sesshomaru himself.
Sesshomaru growled as he sat to review his scrolls. `What is wrong with him?' Kagome thought. As if he could read her mind, Sesshomaru said "Wench, if anyone ever touches you, you are to pull away, understood." Kagome tried to keep her cool, but the anger bubbling inside of her had other thoughts. "I am not a wench! My name is Kagome! KA-GO-ME! Do you understand?! What is it with inu-youkai?! Can you not pronounce names?! At least Koga-kun and Safumaru knew my name!" Kagome exploded. Sesshomaru was slightly taken aback by her outburst, but quickly recovered. "Wench, you are my servant and I will call you what I wish. You are never to question me, or I will…" Sesshomaru couldn't think of a threat. He couldn't imprison her… "…I will make you wish that you had never received a soul." he growled as he threw her to the other side of the room.
Kagome crashed into a shelf and could feel the blood pumping out of the wound on her shoulder. Her head hurt horribly and she felt her power running through her. `No, I have to hold it back…I can't hurt Sesshomaru…' she said as she clenched her teeth. A sudden burst of power came shot from her body and the room was filled with a bright, blue light. Sesshomaru roared as the light overcame him and his stump of a left arm began to throb painfully. After a few seconds, the light faded away and the pain was gone. "Wench, what did you do?" he growled as he raised his arms to attack her. Arms? Since when did he have two arms? She…she had healed him…even after he had hurt her? He felt guilt creeping into his heart and mind. Guilt? Since when did he feel guilt?
Kagome stood up looked at him worriedly. "Lord Sesshomaru? Are you alright? I-I'm so sorry…I tried to hold it back, but I couldn't. Please, forgive this lowly servant…" she pleaded. `Why is she apologizing to me?' Sesshomaru thought. `She probably thought she was going to hurt me, so she reversed the purifications powers into healing powers without her knowing…but why wouldn't she want to hurt me after I hurt her? Why would she do that if she broke my heart and made me commit suicide in the past life?' Sesshomaru thought, but his conscience opposed him. `She is not Midoriko. She is Kagome.
Kagura gave Kanna a false smile, but dropped it when she did not receive a smile in return. "Kanna, why won't you smile for me just once?" Kanna looked at her with emotionless eyes and a stoic expression. "We have no reason to." she said in a voice that seemed to haunt Kagura. Kagura's laid a hand upon her chest where her heart should've been beating, but it wasn't. Her heart was in Naraku's hands and that was how it remained until he was defeated. "Good luck, Lady Kagome…" she whispered. True, she was cruel to Kagome and the others, but that was only because of Naraku. Otherwise, she held a great respect for the miko that seemed to bring happiness and courage to everyone, including her. "Someday, I will be as free as you are." Little did she know, Kagome was currently a servant of Lord Sesshomaru of the Western Lands.

Miroku fell upon his knees and raised his arms to the sky. "Why? Why, Kami, why?" he wailed as the women walked around with horrendous, spiked armor on their rears. Suddenly, he saw a woman with long black hair and sparkling black eyes. "Hi, I'm Fate. You are Miroku, am I correct?" Miroku nodded and held her hands in his. "Lovely Fate, will you-- ." "Sorry, but you are already dead, so there is no need for you to have a child. Anyways, there are some things that my sister and I would like to explain to you." "You have a sister?" "Yes." `Maybe she doesn't wear that horrible armor.' Miroku thought happily as he followed the kimono and Fanny Guard clad woman to be surprised about the other world.
I know I haven't asked before, but please review. You probably think that the ending will suck because some people are dead, but everything will end well. I promise you, the jewel will be put to good use.
