11: Outcomes and Sacrifices

Kagome shifted in the chair uncomfortably. She had not sat down at all the entire day, but a chair was not a good place to sleep. Eyeing the bed that Sesshomaru was asleep upon, she felt a slight pang of jealousy. The jerk made her follow him every today and then he got to sleep in a bed while she slept in a chair.

Kagome fought the urge to chuck her watch at `this Sesshomaru' and give him a little taste of her time. "Jerk…" she muttered under her breath. The unconscious Sesshomaru growled at her. `Well, at least he's intelligent, even if it is in his sleep.' She had to give it to him, though, he ruled the Western Lands well.

`Okay, I am lying on a bed that's as soft as a cloud with my head on the most expensive pillow in the world.' Kagome lied to herself. Kagome had experience of being lied to by Inuyasha, so she easily fell asleep thinking that she sleeping on a bed. (A/N: Fool…)

Midoriko sat on a cushioned bench in the Heavenly Garden with Sachimaru. Neither of them knew what to say. What could be said after all of these years? Midoriko cleared her throat and began. "Sesshomaru's life is in danger and something is preventing me from reaching the other world."

Sachimaru shook his head in pity. "Rumor has it that Fate has broken the crystal ball that allows communication between our world and their's." Midoriko shook her head also. "Someday, that temper of hers will cause great trouble." "It already has. We cannot even speak to them through dreams, at least not for ten years. Sesshomaru will be dead by then…"

"What can we do? We cannot even reach them. Unless…" A smile brightened Midoriko's previously worried face. "What?" "We cannot communicate with them, but one of us can go to their world." Sachimaru's eyes widened. "Midoriko, we cannot do that! That is too dangerous. What if we can't come back and are forced to stay in their world forever?"

"I would rather walk their world for millions of years than let Naraku rule the many people that currently walk upon that world." Midoriko retorted. It would be horrible to have a solid body in their world and lose the ability to die, if it was ever considered an ability. It would be worse, though, to see a horrible monster rule the world and make everyone suffer.

As an angel, she deemed it her responsibility to protect those in the other world. "Midoriko, if anyone must go, I will. I lost you long ago and I will not lose you again. No matter what, I will find a way to return to you." With those words said, Sachimaru began chanting as he jumped from one world to the other as Midoriko looked on in shock.

Kagome felt someone shaking her awake. It was Sesshomaru. "Wh-What? Why didn't my alarm go off?" Kagome looked down at her wrist and saw that the watch was not there. She looked at Sesshomaru suspiciously. "Did you take my watch, Lord Sesshomaru?" she asked with false sweetness.

"How dare you accuse this Sesshomaru of sinking as low as to steal from a ningen!" Sesshomaru retorted. Kagome cocked an eyebrow unbelievingly. `Damn that youkai pride…' "This Sesshomaru will not lie. The `watch' is in this Sesshomaru's study. This Sesshomaru finds it to be a great mystery."

Kagome could feel her head throbbing. She always got a headache whenever she was annoyed. `First, the guy steals my watch and now he speaks in third person. That is so annoying. Well, `this' Sesshomaru can shove that pompous shit up his arrogant ass! Why am I sounding like Inuyasha?'

The name Inuyasha reminded her of what Koga had told her. Tears welled in her eyes. Koga promised to protect her friends, but it was no secret that Inuyasha was stronger, even with the pack packing him up. "Please me safe…" she murmured, fighting back tears.

Sesshomaru was extremely confused. `She accuses me of stealing and the next thing you know she's crying and hoping that `someone' will be safe. How human. How like Inuyasha's mother.' Sesshomaru was relieved that he had not been having his memories lately, at least not since Kagome had been around.

`Her scent, it seems to soothe me… What is it about this human? What spell has she placed upon me?' He knew that Kagome did not know anything about spells, but then what was this? The only scent that soothed him was his mother's.

Blood was everywhere. Everything she saw was red. "Shippo! Miroku! Kirara! Koga! INUYASHA, I'LL KILL YOU AND YOUR CORPSE!" Sango screamed, tossing around and thrashing violently on the futon. A sharp pain in her abdomen made her eyes pop open as she hissed in pain. "Child, ye wounds need to heal." Kaede said worriedly.

Koga had been killed by the Kaze no Kizu. At that time, Sango had been badly hurt already. She had been with Miroku when the loss of blood had drained her and she had fainted next to his lifeless body. She had regained conciousness a few hours later in Kaede's hut after a village man had found the remains of the battle.

Kirara had returned to her whimpering sadly. Even though Sango was not a neko-youkai, she could tell what had happened. After she had fainted, Inuyasha had left to find Kirara. Kirara was now lying beside her in bloodied bandages. The poor youkai could hardly move yet.

Even with her youkai healing, it would still take a while to heal her. Inuyasha had been relentless, especially when he sunk his claws into Shippo's heart and took the Shikon no Tama, the Shikon no Tama that they had worked so hard for, the Shikon no Tama that they had collected with friendship, love, and trust, the Shikon no Tama that stood for so much.

Sango glanced at each of the wolf-demons that had come to their aid. None were hurt as badly hurt as she was and were healing quickly, except for two that had given their lives. One was Koga, and she believed that the other one was Hikkaku from the descriptions that Kagome had given. Speaking of Kagome, where was she?

Inuyasha smirked as he fingered the pink jewel lovingly. He closed his eyes and was about to make his wish when he felt Kikyo's hand on his shoulder. He looked up at her with an expression as if to say `What?'. Kikyo smiled at him and took the Shikon Jewel from his grasp.

"Inuyasha, the jewel can make you a full demon, but it would make you even more powerful if you made the wish as a human." Inuyasha thought the matter over. He longed to be a full demon, but the opportunity of being an extremely powerful one was not a chance to pass up.

He nodded to show his mate his agreement. "Until then, I will hold it for you so that it can become even more powerful." Inuyasha held his mate in his arms. "Thank you." he whispered. "You're very welcome." `I should be thanking you.' Kikyo thought.

Sesshomaru was notified of a visitor that wanted to become one of his servants. He walked outside with Kagome following and found a youkai with long black hair with green tips and green eyes. "Hello, my name is Safumaru."
