10: Battle of Greed

"Shippo! Shippo! Wake up!" Sango cried while desperately trying to shake the kitsune away. Shippo began to rub his eyes as he yawned. "What?" he asked sleepily. "Kirara was growling. I need to know who is coming." Sango said worriedly. Shippo sniffed the air around him and his eyes widened in horror. "I-Inuyasha…" he whispered. Sango held Shippo as she ran to Miroku with Kirara behind her. "Miroku! Inuyasha is coming!" The monk who had previously been asleep stood up almost immediately.

Kirara grew larger until she was big enough to carry them on her back. They climbed on and were about to fly off when they heard "Kaze no Kizu!!!!" It felt as if millions of blades were cutting through their bodies as they all landed helplessly on the ground. `No, I will not let him take away what we've all worked so hard for.' Sango thought. It was painful for her to even breathe, but she struggled to stand before she heaved her Hiraikotsu at Inuyasha with all of her might. Inuyasha easily dodged it and sent another attack at Sango as her boomerang bone spun back and slammed into her already injured body.

Koga stood up and wrinkled his sensitive nose. It couldn't be… He glanced at the others in his pack. "Do you smell that?" The wolf-demons sniffed the air. "There's blood…" Bankotsu said "It smells like the blood of those who accompanied Lady Kagome." `I have to protect them!' Koga thought. "Then what are we waiting here for?" He ran off as fast as he could as the rest of his pack followed as quickly as possible. `Please don't be dead…' he thought.

Kirara watched as her mistress battled a hopeless battle. She growled as she got back up on her feet and charged towards Inuyasha, biting him in the shoulder. Inuyasha yelled in pain before he recovered again. His hold on Tetsusaiga tightened as it made various wounds on the neko-youkai. He was about to make his final attack to finish off Kirara when he heard a jingling sound. Miroku's staff was heading straight for his chest. He jumped away, saving himself, but also allowing Kirara to escape. "Kirara, take Shippo away! Don't let Inuyasha get him!" Sango ordered. The neko-youkai flew to Shippo as Sango fought the pain she felt in her abdomen and grabbed two daggers from her exterminating armor. "YAAAAA!!!!!!!!" Sango screamed as she threw them both at Inuyasha, one aimed for his head and one aimed for his chest. Kirara had the unconscious and heavily wounded Shippo on her back and was in the air about to fly the kitsune and the Shikon no Tama to safety. "Kirara, take Miroku also!" Kirara found Miroku grabbing his staff from the floor and tried to get him to climb upon her, but he refused. "I will not leave Sango to fight alone.

Inuyasha whirled around with Tetsusaiga and knocked both daggers away only to receive a kick in his face. "Koga?" "Wimpy wolf! What are you doing here?" Inuyasha snarled. He scratched Koga's chest, causing Koga to wince. "Koga are you alright?" The rest of Koga's pack had come. "Kaze no Kizu!!!" The wolf-demons were sprawled across the field with severe injuries as they moaned in pain. "You…you hurt my people…" gasped Koga. "You will pay!" His fist slammed into Inuyasha's face before he could react. Inuyasha punched him in the gut and sent him flying a good twenty feet. "Heh, they are weaklings. Those humans survived my attack and still fight. Your pack is lying on the ground. Maybe I should do you a favor and rid you of them. Or maybe, I should just get rid of you." "Kaze no-." Hiraikotsu whirled towards Inuyasha again, but not before he heard it. He spun around and The Steel-Cleaving Fang cut the bone in half. "M-My Hiraikotsu…" Inuyasha cracked his knuckles as he ran with demonic speed towards Sango. "Don't you dare ignore me…" Koga yelled as one of his feet crashed into

Inuyasha's skull. Inuyasha landed on his knees and held his head that was throbbing in pain. "You…"

Hikkaku could feel the blood pumping through his veins and leaving his body. `I will not be defeated by a half-demon just because of a sword…' He got on his knees and prepared to throw his spear straight in Inuyasha's heart. Then, there was an intense pain in his chest. He looked down and saw an arrow protruding from it. The spear fell from his hand as he flopped to the ground dead.

Miroku readied a scroll to exorcise Inuyasha when an arrow whizzed past him and he saw it hit a youkai. He automatically looked in the direction in which the arrow came from. In the forest he saw a flash of white, red, and black. Kikyo stood behind the bushes with an arrow in her bow. She pulled the arrow back and aimed it…at Sango while she stood there in shock about her boomerang bone, practically forgetting everything around her. "No! Sango!" Miroku cried.

Sango returned from her dream-like state at the sound of Miroku's voice. She turned around just in time to see an arrow heading straight for her. She couldn't move; it was no use, for the arrow was coming at such a speed that she couldn't possibly escape it. She closed her eyes and waited for the impact of the arrow in her body, but it never came. Instead, she heard a loud thud and opened her eyes. Miroku was on the ground before her with an arrow in his neck. "Miroku!" Sango kneeled down beside him with her eyes watering. "Why did you do that? Why?" she sobbed. `It hurts to speak, but I must tell her! I must!' "Sango…" he gasped "y-you…are the m-most…w-wonderful woman…I have ever…m-met. I-I…l-love you and…I…w-would rather…die…than live in…th-this world without y-you." Tears ran freely down Sango's face as she saw the man she loved dying before her. "Miroku…pl-please don't d-d-die! I love you! Don't leave me here! I want to be with you! I want to bear your children! I want to be there with you!" "N-no, S-Sango. Y-You…must live…o-on and protect Shippo. F-Find Lady Kagome a-and heal those w-wounded demons." he said referring to the wolf-demons. Sango nodded. "I promise you, I will find a way to be with you." Sango whispered. Miroku forced a weak smile and took his last breath on Earth.

"Oh, no…" Fate whispered. "What's wrong?" "The perverted monk died." "Yeah?" "He'll be here with us…" "So?" "He's perverted…" "Eek!" The two girls ran to the armory and grabbed their Fanny Guards. "Thank Kami for inventing these." "Yes. Still, why do perverts get to go to heaven?"

Inuyasha and Koga were still battling each other. Koga was exhausted and felt as if he were about to faint, but he would not give up. Inuyasha was beating him while he tried to stop him from using the Kaze no Kizu. Koga looked past Inuyasha and saw the perverted

monk lying on the ground dead while the exterminator cried over him. `I have failed Kagome.' he thought in shock. Inuyasha smirked. "Don't you ever ignore me." he snarled. He backed away a few steps before he yelled "Kaze no Kizu!' and swung the blade as hard as he could. "Aaaaaaghhhh!"

Kikyo frowned and sighed. "I knew I should've brought more arrows. Then I could've killed the exterminator. It's a pity that she went through so much training, yet she cannot even see me here." she exclaimed to herself. Her expression then softened when a Saimyosho flew to her and buzzed into her ear. "Yes…of course…"
