15: Sachimaru

"Will she be alright?" Sesshomaru asked Safumaru. Although the feared youkai lord tried to keep his mask on, worry was evident in his eyes. Truthfully, Kagome was doing quite well, but why would Sachimaru say that? "I am afraid that Kagome might not make it. She is going through a lot of pain and the impact on her head caused serious damage." Safumaru lied. Sesshomaru held a gasp as he felt himself overwhelmed by grief, anger, guilt, and so many more emotions that he had not felt in a long time. Safumaru smiled. `He is worried…' "Lord Sesshomaru, I was only joking! Her shoulder will take longer to heal now, but she should be well with enough rest!"

Sachimaru felt himself being pinned to the wall by his master. Sesshomaru's eyes were bleeding red and his claws and fangs lengthened. "How dare you…how dare you scare me like that?" Sachimaru gulped and felt himself changing color. If he had a mirror, he could see the purple tint that his ivory skin was taking on. "Th-This l-lowly servant ap-apologizes." he coughed out. Sesshomaru pulled back his arm and Sachimaru fell to the ground massaging his throat. `The things I do for this world…' he thought. "You will go and tend to Kagome's wound immediately." Sesshomaru ground as he walked away from the currently red-faced youkai.

Sachimaru stood up and went into a guest room to see Kagome already awake and staring at the wall. "Kagome, are you feeling better?" Kagome nodded. "What just happened outside?" she asked nervously. Sachimaru grinned. "Not much… I didn't say this, but…it looks like Lord Sesshomaru may…give the term `personal servant' a new meaning." Kagome blushed and turned away. "Th-That's impossible…Lord Sesshomaru could not love a human." The demon at the doorway was confused, also. `Could I, Lord Sesshomaru of the Western Lands, be in love with a human?'

Sesshomaru sighed and went to find Rin. When he found her in her room, her eyes were still red and teary. He sat on the corner of her bed and watched her wipe away her tears before giving him a false, but nevertheless bright smile. "Sesshomaru-sama, is Kagome-chan better now?" she asked worriedly, although she kept her smile permanently pasted. Even at her young age, she did not wish to worry her Sesshomaru-sama. Sesshomaru patted her on the head affectionately before saying. "Kagome is indeed better. In fact, you might be able to visit her in a few days. Just…don't go to the gardens yet. Kagome still needs rest." Rin nodded sadly since she felt guilty about what happened to Kagome.

As if reading her mind, Sesshomaru gave a small smile and said "It's okay, Rin, Kagome doesn't blame you." Kagome would never blame anything on others. Rin gave a genuine smile. "When can Rin see Kagome-chan?" Sesshomaru thought for a good reply before simply saying "I shall send you to her when the time comes. Now, go bug Jaken or something." Rin, a cooperative and obedient girl, ran off to pester the poor imp.

In the entire palace you could hear screams of "Aah!", "Ningen!", "Brat!", "Ow!", and "Don't do that!". Bad for the imp…but amusing and entertaining to everyone else.

Sesshomaru chuckled, something that he only did behind closed doors, and went back to check on Kagome. `Since when do I check on Kag-…I mean humans so much?' he thought. ~You love her.~ `I do not love her! She is a human! This Sesshomaru cannot love a human!' ~Cut the `This Sesshomaru' crap. She obviously doesn't like that.~ `Oh. Wait, I do not care what a lowly ningen such as herself thinks of feels.' ~Why did you give her new silk kimonos? Why were you so worried earlier? Why do you call her `Kagome'?~ `Silence yourself, or this Sesshomaru shall be forced to perform a kind deed to the world and rid it of you.' ~Fine! Kill me!~ Sesshomaru raised a clawed hand and was about to attack when he found himself staring at his claws. `Ah, I cannot kill that annoying voice.' he thought sadly. ~True… Well, sayonara for now!~

"Finally…" Sesshomaru groaned. He looked around and was relieved to find that no one had heard him. He stopped before the room in which Kagome was residing and peered in. Kagome was conscious and still talking to Safumaru, but they were no longer talking about him and his affections. As a matter of fact, they were talking about the worthless hanyou, also known as Inuyasha. "No, I have not heard of anyone named Inuyasha." Kagome frowned. "Why do you ask?" "My friends, I am afraid that they are hurt. I don't know what is wrong with him, but he…he's changed." she said as tears streamed down her cheeks. Sachimaru had no idea what to say to comfort her. He would look to the taiyoukai that he knew was standing right outside, but he had to pretend that he could not sense him.

Sesshomaru felt his heart wrench at the sight of Kagome's tears. `What is this ningen doing to me? Why do I feel the urge to comfort her? Why do I feel these emotions when I am with her?' he asked himself…but he wasn't expecting a reply. ~I have returned to you!~ Sesshomaru growled angrily at the annoying voice. `Why do you always come whenever I am like this?' ~You feel a need to comfort her don't you? You hate to see her crying.~ `Yes.' Sesshomaru admitted. ~Maybe you should do her a favor to cheer her up. You can take her to visit her friends when she is better.~ `That is a very good idea, but remind me why I would do this?' he asked himself sarcastically. (A/N: Demon lords and sarcasm mix) ~You love her.~ `I do not!' ~Tsk, tsk, a lying taiyoukai… Remember, I am YOU so I know that you find yourself strangely attracted by her. You couldn't even sleep last night without her scent…~ `I am merely accustomed to her scent.' ~Oooh…I am the BIG, BAD taiyoukai of the West and I hate the stench of humans. That's why I can't fall asleep without it.~ `You are not funny.' ~Yes, I am. I am the `brighter' side of you, you pessimistic youkai.~

Sesshomaru growled once more before the voice bid its goodbye and he walked into the room. Both Safumaru and Kagome looked surprised to see him. "Kagome, once you heal, would you like to visit your friends?" At first, Kagome looked shocked. When the shock wore off, though, all that was left was a smiling woman saying "Yes, Lord Sesshomaru." "Good. I will make the arrangements, but Rin and I will be accompanying you." Kagome smiled appreciatively and happiness shone through her eyes. Sesshomaru could feel his chest warming at the sight. `Is this how it feels to be in love?' he thought as Kagome's sweet scent surrounded him.
