It was a beautiful day out. The sun was shining, so that everything glowed with warmth. It was days like these that Kagome loved. She looked down at the completed jewel around her neck. “I wonder what will happen...” she thought to herself. She was sitting by the Bone Eaters Well, taking a break after the walk she took. “I wonder if Inu Yasha still wants to become a full demon” she thought out loud. “I hope not…even if he doesn't show it, I know he cares about us, Sango, Miroku, and Shippou. And I love him, even if he doesn't love me back. I know he still has feelings for Kikyo, but…sometime it's just so painful, I can't bear the thought of seeing him with her.

 

She didn't know that Inu Yasha was sitting in a tree listening to every word she said. “She…she said she loved me…” he thought. “He thought of Kikyo, and then thought of Kagome. After all he'd been through with each...Kikyo, he had loved her 50 years before. “Why did I love her?” Inu Yasha thought. “The only reason I ever loved her is because…because we were alike.” “Both outsiders, and couldn't trust anyone…” Then he thought of Kagome. She accepted him, no matter what he chose. She stuck with him after all he put her through. And she taught him how to care. “If it wasn't for her,” he thought, “I probably would still be all by myself today, still bound to the tree by Kikyo's arrow. “ “I wouldn't be friends with Sango, or Miroku, or even Shippou.” He knew he loved Kagome, he just didn't know how to say it, or show it. He thought the safest way to cover it up was to be mad, or stubborn, and not agree with her. He was snapped out of his own thoughts when he smelt salt. “Kagome's crying” he thought. “I wonder what's wrong” He jumped out of the tree and walked over to where she was.

 

She didn't even notice he had walked up and plopped down in front of her. She had her head in her knees, thinking how stupid she was to think he ever loved her back. She looked up to see Inu Yasha staring at her. She jumped up. “How long have you been there?!?” she said in a somewhat scared voice. “I hope he didn't hear everything I said” she thought. “I just sat down. Jeez, what's your problem?” Inu Yasha said. “Nothing” Kagome said. “Yea, well then why were you crying?” he said. “Because I…just because!” she said, and turned around. “You know, I've been thinking…about the jewel.” Inu Yasha said. “Yea?” said Kagome. “Well…I was thinking about…about…staying a half-demon…” Inu Yasha trailed off. Kagome turned around. “Really?!” “But…why?” She asked. Because…”he started, “because I overheard what you said about loving me.” “Oh” Kagome said softly. “You must think of me as a fool, for saying that”

“Actually…I don't” he said. Kagome…I…I decided I needed to make a choice. A choice between you…or Kikyo. I thought about it…and Kikyo's dead. I think…I think the only reason I ever loved her was because…because we were alike. Then, I thought about you Kagome. You accepted me, when nobody else did. Because of you, I have friends. And because of you, I know how to love. That's why I choose you Kagome. I love you, more than anything in the world.

 

At hearing that, Kagome's eyes filled with tears. “What's wrong?!” Inu Yasha said bewildered. “Was it something I said?” he thought. “Do you really mean it?” Kagome asked. “Of course I do, or else I wouldn't have said it!” Inu Yasha exclaimed.

Inu Yasha pulled her into a tight embrace. Kagome was surprised at first, but then snuggled closer to him. “I love you, Inu Yasha.” Kagome said. I love you too Kagome” he replied.
