Chapter 4: An Amusing Senior Festival

(A/N: You know, as in the festival is in an AMUSEMENT park. ::cricket sounds:: Um and… as in it's amusing to us and… ::someone coughs:: Okay. I'm the only one who found that amusing.)

KAGOME:

I couldn't keep the tears from falling. It was like I was a freaking water fountain or something. I can't believe I'm so worked up about this. But what I don't get is why Inuyasha was so mean! I didn't do anything!

Shortly after Inuyasha left me at the park it started to rain. As if my legs had minds of their own, I found myself running. I don't know where I was running but I was just running away. I was running away from the prophecy, running away from Koga, and most of all I was running away from Inuyasha.

Before I knew it I found myself at our shrine, in front of the God Tree. I looked up at it, feeling the cool droplets of the rain splattering across my cheeks.

"Why? Why couldn't I just have a normal life! Why was it me who got the stupid jewel! Why is it me that Koga has to be supposedly in love with! And WHY is it ME that INUYASHA IS MAD AT???"

I now found myself screaming at this stupid tree like a maniac but I didn't care anymore.

"WHY! WHY! WHY! WHY! WHY!"

I picked up a rock near me and chucked it at the stupid tree in front of me and it bounced off, richocheting off onto the concrete. I walked over to the tree and started pounding on it, until I turned my back to it and slid down to its base. I sat there crying until a shaky voice said," K-K-Kagome?"

I looked up and saw Sango.

"S-Sango?"

"Oh my god Kagome! What happened? What's wrong?"

She ran over to me with an extremely concerned face and started looking me over, probably checking in case I had any injuries probably.

I shook my head and lunged forward catching Sango in a hug.

"Oh Sango!"

And I cried, I cried for what seemed the millionth time that day.

"Shhhh, it's okay Kagome. Come on. Let's get out of the rain, let's go over to my house. I told my parents you were sleeping over anyways…"

I nodded and followed Sango to her car.

STILL KAGOME:

After a long, hot shower I finally calmed down and was now sitting on Sango's bed waiting for her to come back from her kitchen. She opened her bedroom door and walked in carrying a bucket of vanilla ice cream with what looked like a whole box of chocolate bars.

She smiled sheepishly and said," I asked my mom to run down to the store and get us some snacks. This stuff always makes me happy when I'm depressed."

I laughed as she sat down in front of me and handed me a spoon along with a couple of chocolate bars. I smiled and said," Thanks Sango. For everything."

"Yeah, well it's the least I could do. Especially since it's Inuyasha who did this."

I looked down, not being able to hold eye contact with her anymore and began scooping a spoonful of ice cream into my mouth.

INU:

I was on the computer typing up an essay to try and get my mind off things when my phone rang. I picked it up.

"Yo."

"YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE FROM HELL!"

I pulled the phone away from my ear and heard a slight ringing in my ears.

"Who the hell is this?"

"It's Sango! And I'm at my house trying to nurse Kagome back to her proper happy self!"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean that I found her in front of her house CRYING under a tree in THE FUCKING RAIN!"

"What?"

"Yeah! All because you called her a bitch and slut and got all pissed off at her for Koga asking her to the festival!"

"Well I was trying to tell her not to come crying to me when Koga uses-"

"SHE WASN'T GOING TO GO WITH HIM YOU ASS! SHE WAS GOING TO GO ALONE WITH ME AND MIROKU!"

"But I heard Koga say he was confirming their date-"

"Kagome was trying to tell the little moron she didn't want to go with him but he wouldn't take no as a fucking answer!"

"…"

"Yeah. What do you have to say for yourself now Inuyasha Takahasi."

Click.

KAGOME:

I woke up and found Sango pulling out a pretty light pink and green kimono out of her closet.

"Hey Sango."

She turned and smiled," Hey Kagome. My mom said that anytime you want to go to your house and pick up your outfit for the festival, just say the word."

I smiled and said," We can go after we eat breakfast."

"Okay. Come on. Breakfast is probably ready by now."

I followed her out of her room and downstairs to the kitchen.

I smiled as I met Sango's mom and her little brother Kohaku.

After breakfast we got into the car and made the short drive to my house. I told Sango I'd be fine in going alone and she let me.

I walked up the shrine steps and continued walking until I reached the God Tree. I stopped for a second as flashback of last night burned brightly in my mind's eye. It all seemed like a really bad dream now. But I knew all to well it was real.

I sighed and continued walking through the shrine to my house.

"Hey mom! Souta! Grandpa! I'm home!"

I stepped out of my shoes and walked into the kitchen to find a note on the fridge:

Dear Kagome,

I went to visit a friend of mine back in Moka, and your brother is at a sleepover. Your grandfather is probably somewhere out on the grounds. I knew you would probably come over to grab your outfit, it's in your room, I ironed it for you. Have fun at the festival tonight sweetie.

Love,

Mom

I smiled and walked up to my room grabbing my dark blue kimono with light pink cherry blossoms, and my bright pink sash to match.

I ran back to Sango's car and she said," Oh wow Kagome! What a pretty kimono!"

"Thanks."

STILL IN KAGOME:

(A/N: As you can tell this will be mostly Kagome's POV.)

I looked at myself in the mirror and grinned. Mom was right, this kimono WAS perfect for me. It reflected my character perfectly. I pulled out the pink ribbon I had bought and tied it like a headband with the bow propped diagonally on the top of my head.

Okay, now it was perfect.

Sango walked in wearing her kimono and I gave a small squeal.

"Oh Sango you look great!"

"Why thank you Kagome! Not too shabby if I do say so myself," she said inspecting herself in the full-length mirror I had just occupied.

"Well," she said turning to me," We're just waiting for Miroku to pick us up."

~@~

INU:

"Inuyasha, I'm going to get in trouble with Sango if I give you a ride."

"Miroku, either you give me a ride or else I pop your tires," I threatened, holding up a clawed hand.

Miroku looked at the time then back at me and sighed," All right, All right. I know I'm going to regret this later on…"

~@~

KAGOME:

Miroku's late and Sango is losing her patience. She keeps pacing around and muttering stuff like "wish he were never born" and "won't have anything to grope with".

I was keeping my distance until a pair of headlights pulled into the driveway. I sighed with relief and said to Sango," There. Ya see? Not too late now was he?"

She huffed and stomped over to the car. The window rolled down and none other than Inuyasha sat in the passenger seat.

Sango stopped dead in her tracks glaring at Inuyasha with a mixture of shock and anger.

"You- What the hell are you doing here?"

"Getting a ride. What else?"

He stepped out of the car, opened the seat and entered the back. I stood there debating whether to go or not but I decided I wouldn't ruin Sango's night with Miroku after all she had done for me.

I walked over to the car and put one foot in before Sango grabbed my shoulder and said," We don't have to go with them. I'll call and get a ride from Sakura or something."

I shook my head and put on a smile," Nope. It's fine and plus Sakura has probably left already. She was one of the people setting up."

Sango gave me a look and I waved a hand at her," It's fine, really."

She nodded and let go of my shoulder. I plopped onto the seat next to Inuyasha and sat as close to the wall as possible.

INU:

What? Do I have the plague or something? What's so bad about going to the festival in the same car as me?

What am I kidding? I blew it big time.

I lost my only chance of ever being with Kagome. I made her cry, how could she ever forgive me for that? I gave a small sigh and stared out the window at the setting sun, searching for the moon, which was a habit of mine. I kept looking but didn't see a faint white crescent or anything.

I sat up and barked," What day is it?"

Miroku blinked and said," Um… Saturday."

"I mean what date is it?"

"The 23rd."

I felt my heart clench in realization. Tonight was the new moon.

I looked back at the sun and calculated it would be about 30 minutes before the sun went down. I decided I would go, ditch Miroku and Sango and run back home. Perfect plan.

KAGOME:

Now… resist from strangling his neck… resist.

You will not be charged with murder. That would not look very good on a college application now would it?

Deep breath. In. Out. In. Out.

Good. Nice and calm… OH THANK GOD! We're there!

I practically flew out of the car.

~@~

INU:

I watched as Kagome hopped out of the car, and I felt my brain go numb. She was beautiful. Her kimono was beautiful and fit her so well. I practically tripped while stepping out of the car.

"So," she said happily," Let's go hit some games! I'm master at the archery one."

"Maybe because you're the best archer on the Amaterasu High archery team," Sango pointed out.

Kagome shrugged," Not my fault."

Sango and Miroku both laughed but I didn't. 15 minutes until sunset, I have to get out of here. I was contemplating the best way to get away but my thoughts were interrupted by a shrill voice calling my name," Inuyasha! Is that you!"

Oh no… not Kikyo…

~@~

KAGOME:

We all turned to see where the extremely girly voice had erupted from. A girl in what looked like an old Japanese priestess outfit ran up to Inuyasha and gave him a tight hug.

"Oh Inuyasha! I haven't seen you since Shikon Middle School! I heard you went to Amaterasu High after that."

Inuyasha nodded staring at the girl in front of him with a look on his face that I couldn't quite figure out meant.

"I went off to Chikako's School For Girls. My mother and father wanted me to have the best education possible. So, who are your friends Inuyasha?"

"Um," Inuyasha seemed to struggle with words," This is Sango, Miroku and, uh, Kagome."

I got a good look at the girl and froze.

She looked just like me!

She looked at me the same way that I was looking at her.

Miroku finally broke the silence and said," Well, come on you guys. Let's go catch a couple of games while it's still warm since the sun is going down."

"What?" Inuyasha cried looking at his watch.

"Uh-um. I gotta go do something guys. I'll, uh, be back."

He ran off, disappearing into the crowd.

Hmph! Like I care where he's going.

Kikyo spoke up and said," Well, I guess I'll go with my friends then. Bye Sango. Bye Miroku."

She ran off into the crowd too.

Um, hello? What am I? Chopped liver? Where's my good bye?

~@~

INU:

Dammit! I've got to find somewhere to hide! I spotted an empty tent and I slipped in. I looked down at my watch and waited.

"3…2…1…"

I shut my eyes as I felt my body transforming into my human form. I felt my claws and fangs shrink and my ears disappear and reappear at the side of my head. I no longer could smell certain perfumes around me and I no longer heard a baby crying in the distance.

I sighed as the transformation subsided. I ran my hand through my hair and saw my hair was now a midnight black.

Well, since I never ran back home I'd have to stay here. It was too far to reach as a human and I might as well have some fun before the bus ride home.

I slipped out of the tent and started to walk in the direction of the games.
