Chapter 5: A Royal Angel
As the sun royally rose over the castle, signaling that many the day was finally rising. The sweet smell of tea and honey lingered among the hallways, teasing the nose of its residents. A light breeze ran through the open windows, sending chills down everyone's spines. Fall was soon approaching, making its presence recognize through these different careless signs for attention.
Kagome growled quietly as her stomach interrupted her comfortable slumber, forcing her to wake up and search for some kind of food. She complied with her stomach and tiredly woke up, yawning into her hand and walking to the hot springs to get a slumber smell off of her. It was like the rain forest, calm yet so wild and free.
Letting her kimono and haori which she failed to take off yesterday, drop at her feet, she let her creamy body step into the hot springs. The hot water making her muscles comfortable and making her thoughts of yesterdays events cease to replay. She closed her yes and tried to remember anything else that she held as a precious memory from here.
Flashback
Kagome was running through the thick forest, a flash of white approaching her. As she though she lost him, she stopped at the end of the forest, gazing at the green grass and the small cliff which overlooked some of the ocean and the disposed sandy edge. She was too caught up in her little own world until she felt two hands around her waist and a big kiss on her cheek.
“I found you, Kagome” he whispered and she squirmed in his grasp
“You don't play fair, you're a youkai, you can automatically sense and you have an immeasurable speed”
“Well thank you but that won't help you, you know”
“You're mean” she said like a small child
“Aw and how so?”
“I already told you”
“I still love you, so that's all that matter doesn't it, love?”
“Yes, it does…I love you too”
“Good, now can we go back to the castle now?”
“No, I like the ocean”
“Hmm, I have to go get some things done” he said and turned around, walking off
Kagome smiled and when he was passing the small cliff, she threw all her weight on him, which wasn't much, and he was so off guard that he stumbled, fell and they rolled down the small hill. Ending at the edge of the ocean. She was straddling her waist, with dirty chapping her cheeks and his too, stray straws hung into his head. Kagome laughed at how he pouted towards her.
“Oh come on, Sesshy-sama, why don't you laugh”
“Hmm” he said then begun laughing, one of the prettiest and manliest laughs she had ever heard
“Aw, that was so cute, Hehe” she said and kissed his supple lips.
End of Flashback
Kagome was taken out of her trance again and she quickly got out of the hot springs, dressing into a simpler white kimono with a blue design. Grabbing a blue haori, she rushed out of the room, her hair in a bun with mischievous strands falling at the sides of her face. As she passed the large windows again, she noticed that no one was up yet, it must have been a little after dawn. She walked into the kitchen and saw Rin rush from under the table and hugged her.
One of the human cooks tried to pull her off, cursing and dominating her existence. Kagome picked her up and shooed the cooks to cook her something to eat, which they could do nothing but comply with.
Rin cried onto her shoulder and Kagome rocked her back and forth onto her lap as she got back to her room.
“Rin, what's wrong?”
“Nothing, my lady”
“Don't call me that, please, and tell me what's wrong, I'll try to help”
“Sesshomaru-sama saved me a long time ago, saving me with his healing sword and since that day, he has traveled with me and Master Jaken by his side. When he `married' Erina-sama, he let her run the interiors of the castle as her choice and she runs them with a strong iron fist. She doesn't like me because I'm a human so I am told to sleep in the kitchen, when I use to have my own chambers and now his two sons are always taking away my dignity and picking at me because their mother lets them. She likes to humiliate me and beat me too; I just don't like her because she made Sesshomaru-sama angry man again”
“Aw Rin, people change, I'm sure he needed a mate but that's no reason to hurt you in the process…I will do whatever is in my power to care for you my little Rin…from now on, you sleep in here”
“Will you be Rin's mommy?” she asked innocently
“Of course”
“Yay!” she screeched and started hugging Kagome and laughing and giggling.
After cooing the child to sleep, she had gotten the food but her appetite disappeared and she gave it back to them instead. She held her haori close to her as the wind quickly chilled her bones. Giving the child a last look, she disappeared into the secret pathway she had gotten into yesterday. Closing the door behind her for the sake of not rising Rin's curiosity, she walked downstairs and once more took a better look at the room she and Sesshomaru once use to call their hideout. Walking through the furniture, she noticed a stack of books by the couch; she walked over to the books and took the one off the top.
Dusting the old book off with her fingers, she opened it, ungracefully sneezing as a more dust entered the air. She opened it and carefully read the words in front of her.
“The mating of youkai is a simple process many youkai are taught as children. Mating with anything other than a youkai, for example a human, heavily being, or hanyou could prove to have its own difficulty. For Taiyoukai it is preferred not to mate with any other but their own kind because during the time they go into heat, controlling their actions is so difficult; it could end in the death of the newly found mate. For any other youkai, of less power, it could prove successful. If a Taiyoukai by any means decides to mate with a heavenly being, it could prove a success if the mate has control of its powers and the Taiyoukai can do so with exercised self-control. It is a possibility that the child will either be hanyou or a full blooded youkai, according to the correct compound mixtures which is uncontrollable by hand. In conclusion, if an heir is wanted through this union, it is best that Taiyoukai mate with their own kind and protect the well being of the other one who may not be of Taiyoukai decent.”
Kagome smiled and put the book down, deciding that she would go back upstairs and check on Rin. As she got upstairs, she noticed that Rin was gone and that a very royal letter was sitting on her bed. She grimaced for a second then picked up the letter and unfolded it, reading it out loud but quiet enough for only her to hear.
“Dear Kagome,
Please forgive me for yesterday, her actions were inexcusable. After dinner yesterday, I pondered over the question that lingered unanswered. I am most certain that you may believe I have no possible feelings for you but I hope you believe me when I say that you should think otherwise. I have loved you since I was a child and I still do now, only that at this moment, any possible signs or words of affection are valueless to your ears. That is why you left, was it not? I am still bitter over those words you said before leaving, they play over and over in my thoughts. Although we could have mated, I think it was best that we did not…you did not deserve chains to hold your free and wild spirit back, and you still do not need them now. Kagome please learn to forgive me, whatever I did wrong to make you leave, I wish to have my heart cleared and I want to apologize. You are important to me, I cannot help but want to have you near me…I have a need to protect you. I love you Kagome with my whole bitter cold heart, you are the sunshine that made me smile…once upon a time.
Sincerely,
Lord Sesshomaru
P.S.: Would you please do me the honor of joining me for dinner this afternoon?”
Kagome shook her head negatively but said yes. She needed to talk to him, for sake of good old times. Not thinking twice about it, she grabbed her haori and walked down to the library where she quickly found him and he looked up from his desk but she completely ignored him and began acting as if she was searching for a book.
Sesshomaru looked at her and wondered why she didn't say anything. Had she not gotten his letter? Did she not read it? Did she lose her feeling? He wasn't upset just extremely sad and this feeling clawed at his heart painfully. Why wasn't she speaking? If she wouldn't speak, he certainly would not speak, he was the lord of the Western…
“Good afternoon, Kagome” he said and mentally smacked himself for being so not under control
“Hello, Lord Sesshomaru” she responded and he growled lightly
Kagome heard the growl and nearly laughed. She was going to have him wiped, it was the only way she would feel better. She would do all the things she knew he hated to back him back for not helping her with Erina yesterday. One thing he hated was that she called him by the royal name, since they knew each other so well. While looking through a book of war strategies, she was thinking about what other things would make him tick.
“Sir, excuse my interference but you have an important message…” said someone and she desperately turned to the door, hoping it was who she thought it was. It was! It was Torin the only person in this castle that was always as cute as Sesshomaru. She smiled and ran towards him with her arms open.
“MASTER TORIN!” she yelled and jumped into his arms, which he thoughtlessly held open and she jumped into him.
“Oh, um…my Lady?” he asked surprised
“Play along…” she whispered too low for Sesshomaru to hear and Torin nodded his head
“How's the beautiful princess?” he asked and hugging her tightly, willing himself to get aroused which wasn't too hard to do
“Torin, unhand her” growled Sesshomaru deeply but the two ignored him
“Ok, thank-you, would you like to come see my room?”
“Right Now?”
“Yes…but of course, right now”
“Alright” he said and they begun walking to the when Sesshomaru used his demonic speed to pin Torin to the wall
“Touch her like that or get aroused at her presence and I will kill you with my own two hands…”
“Now, Sesshy-sama, no way to treat you elders, is it?”
“Torin, bye, I'll call you when I require you” he said and basically pushed him out the door, gazing at Kagome's smile with a laugh
“Oh, Sesshy-sama, what have you been doing lately?”
“Nothing, nothing at all”
“Looks like what you are doing is extremely important” said Kagome with sarcasm
“It is, please don't fondle with it” he said and she just walked over to the papers and looked at them.
“Let's see…Lord Sesshomaru, aw catchy, catchy, I accept your treaty…treaty? What treaty?”
“Political matters of course, Kagome, nothing that concerns you”
“Um…if only the world was seen for its beauty, it wouldn't be fought over so desperately and put to idiotic use…”
“Wise words from your mother?” he asked sarcastically
“No, wise words from me and my daughter, Rin”
“So, you see freedom to take over my things?”
“If the things are being treated like trash then I have every right…”
“Hmm…so will you join me for dinner?”
“Sure, puppy-sama, I'll come just because I…I'll come” she finished and walked off
What was she trying to say? I love you? Now, now Sesshomaru knew better. Hopefully today would not mimic yesterday, hopefully today they would have a much nicer dinner with a much nicer audience and for no reason, no reason at all would this Lord Sesshomaru of the Western Land withhold himself from speaking the truth.
