Chapter Four:

Kagome sighed and closed her schoolbooks. It had been a long day and all she wanted to do was climb into bed and sleep for ages.

Kagome looked at the alarm clock, which read 2:30. `I didn't know it was so late.' Kagome said dreading how little sleep she was going to get before she would have to get up and get ready for another horrible day at school.

Kagome sighed again and stripped out of her school clothes. She was really too tired to change into her pajamas so she just climbed into bed fully nude. She made sure her clock was set and then laid back on her pillow with her sheets tucked under her arms.

She began to think back about the events of the day. She had met Miroku's friends…a load of perverts really but what did she really expect. They seem to attract each other and Miroku…or rather Tensei Takai was definitely one in the bunch.

All of the guys were upperclassman though Uyeda was quite a bit older. The rumors were, as she heard from Ayumi, Yuka and Eri, were that Uyeda had failed his exams many times and was retained back. There was really nothing good said about him and Kagome had to admit something about him gave her the creeps.

But being Kagome she refused to think that he was all bad, after all he was Miroku's friend and that had to speak something for him. Miroku wouldn't make friends with creeps…would he?

Kagome sighed for the third time that night and then grumbled. She sounded so…helpless. That was how she felt all day too. Ayumi, Yuka and Eri bugged her all day of how she had become so close to the "school hunk" and why she was on the roof with Takai.

It all started when she had fled from the group's comments and ran into her friends near her locker.

*Flashback*

"Are you okay Kagome? Ayumi asked as she saw her friend blushing fiercely and breathing quite heavily.

Yuka and Eri immediately put those two together and got the wrong idea.

"Oh my goodness! Kagome! You haven't been making out with anyone have you?" Yuka squealed.

"I bet it was Takai…they've been real close and it's only like the second day! I heard he drove her home yesterday." Eri commented.

"Is that true Kagome?" Ayumi asked at a normal volume level but with a hint if disappointment. Ayumi was known to encourage school first before guys.

"N-no!" Kagome said. "We weren't making out. I just…just…drop it guys." Kagome said as she put her forehead against the cold metal of her locker and tried to calm her breathing.

"But you didn't deny the fact that he brought you home yesterday!" Yuka said and immediately Eri and her began talking about how cool it was that she had finally found a great guy.

"Would you two give it a rest?" Kagome whined standing straight and looking at her two friends.

"Stop what?" A voice came from behind Kagome. She recognized it at once and smiled up at the guy who was now resting his arm on her shoulder.

"Hi Gregor." She said relieved that he had come along to stop the plans. Yuka had just started deciding on when and where her wedding should take place.

"Aren't you going to introduce me to these beauties Kagome?" Gregor said winking at the girls and making them all blush…even Ayumi. Kagome took note that the girl never made eye contact with Gregor for the rest of the day.

"Oh, I'm sorry Gregor, these are my friends. This is Ayumi, Eri and Yuka. Guys this is Gregor." Gregor smiled at all the girls as the introductions took place.

"I love your accent…it's so sexy." Eri said and then Yuka echoed.

"It's Scottish…isn't it?" Ayumi asked shyly, something very out of the ordinary for her. Gregor turned his full attention to the girl and nodded.

"Very perceptive. Yeah I'm originally from Scotland. Well my family is originally Japanese, or so I'm told, but we moved to Scotland centuries ago and then we got word that some of my family wished us to come back, so we did. I'm impressed you recognized it though, most people don't bother to figure it out." Kagome smiled as she found that Gregor was taking a liking to her friend.

It was then the bell rang making Kagome jump. Gregor laughed at her and moved his arm so it encircled her shoulders. "What's wrong Kagome? You're a bit skittish aren't you?"

"Yeah well I wasn't expecting to meet all of you this morning and well…"

"Ah, Uyeda give you the creeps? Or are you fretting over your lover boy?" Gregor asked guiding Kagome down the halls following her friends toward their first class.

"Aren't you going to be late for your class?" Kagome asked instead of answering his inquiry.

"I'm always late so it doesn't really matter. Plus I feel its my duty as Takai's dearest friend to make sure his woman doesn't have any problems, not to mention that other guys keep their hands off." Gregor said winking down at her.

Kagome couldn't help but smile at the familiarity of it all. Yuka and Eri were giggling like mad women by now. Kagome was sure she was going to die from embarrassment, especially when Gregor entered the classroom with her and walked her to her seat.

"Well Mr. Gregor, I see you've taken an interest in the freshmen class again this year. I would hope that such a girl as Kagome would be smarter than to associate in the likes of you." Gregor just smiled at the teacher.

"Aw. You hurt my feelings sensei. I was merely coming back so I could spend another day in your lovely class like I used too." Gregor said placing a hand over his heart and then winking. The teacher got incredibly flushed about something and pointed towards the door. Gregor laughed and got the meaning.

"Bye Kagome. I'll probably be back to pick you up after class. Takai would do it but it seems he's already been given an in-school suspension for skipping some classes on the first day." Gregor said and winked at her.

That started rumors running wildly and Kagome had to hide from her friends and other classmates for the rest of the day. She was very thankful that Gregor was around because as the rumors went through the school she started getting nasty glares from the girls who obviously had been trying to get Takai for a while now.

As the day came towards an end Kagome was trying to figure out the best way to get out of the school safely. Gregor had mentioned to her that he had to stay after class for a detention (`Maybe he shouldn't always be late for classes' Kagome thought) so she wouldn't be able to use him for protection and Miroku had to stay after school as well due to his suspension.

Kagome sighed as the last bell rang and the class quickly left the room. Kagome loaded up her books and walked to the door. Sticking her head out into the hallway to make sure everything was okay, she stepped out and quickly made her way to her locker. As she approached it she saw Seiichi leaning up against it with something in his hand.

"Hey Kagome." He said flashing her a smile. Kagome returned the smile and waited for him to move. He slid to the side just enough so that she could open her locker and stuff the rest of her books in her backpack.

"Got a lot of homework?" Seiichi asked. Kagome nodded and gave a sigh. It was going to take her forever to finish all her homework for the next day.

"Don't worry about it too much doll. If you need help just give me a call. What I can't help you on, I can find something that you can use to cheat." He said with a wink. Kagome couldn't help but laugh. He was very playful and though she didn't doubt he was serious his tone and eyes were dancing with laughter.

"So why were you waiting for me? Are you my bodyguard now?" Kagome said shutting her locker and facing Seiichi.

"Yeah something like that. Takai asked me to take you home since he can't."

"You really don't have to. I'll be fine walking."

Seiichi smiled. "Man, how did you end up with a guy like Takai? You're too kind. Oh well. Here." He handed an envelope to Kagome. "It was on your locker when I got here. I think its probably threats from Takai's fan club."

Kagome looked down at the lettering of her name. It was meant to look like it was done in blood. Kagome shivered…these girls were way to obsessive. Kagome walked over to the nearest trashcan and threw it away.

"Shall we go?" She asked.

"You've got guts Higurashi. Welcome to the group." Seiichi said throwing an arm around her shoulder and guiding her towards the parking lot.

*End Flashback*

Kagome smiled. She really did like Seiichi. He had taken her, in his sleek Porsche convertible, to a local sushi bar where they chatted for several hours. They probably would have stayed there longer if it wasn't for the fact that Kagome had gotten a look at the time and panicked. She had tons of homework and didn't know if she had enough time to finish it all.

Seiichi brought her home and offered to walk her up the shrine steps. Kagome giggled at him as he looked up at the stairs with a bit of dread. She explained to him it was no need and had rushed up half the stairs before he called up to her. He said he would see her later and then chuckled. Why was that funny? She still couldn't figure it out.

Kagome smiled, so parts of her day wasn't that bad. Her eyes were getting heavy and she laid back into her fluffy pillow. She yawned one last time before succumbing to sleep.

It didn't last long however.

About thirty minutes later Kagome found herself woken up to a soft thud in her room. Kagome sat up, forgetting about her state of undress. Her sheets puddle around her waist as she looked around her room for the source of the noise.

She found it under her window. Gregor was lying there breathing heavily and staring at the bare chest. Kagome let out an `ep' before bringing her sheets to cover her.

"Gregor what are you doing here?" She hissed as she pulled the sheet out from the bed and wrapped it around her chest, tying it loosely so it would stay on without her holding it there.

Gregor grinned and got back up. He leaned out the window, which he had just climbed through, and motioned to someone to come in. Kagome walked over to him and peered out the window. Miroku and Seiichi had begun to climb the tree up there while Uyeda stood next to it smoking a cigarette.

"So that's what he meant by `see me later'." Kagome said to herself. Gregor chuckled quietly and moved Kagome out of the way so the two boys could enter the window. Both did it a little more gracefully than Gregor.

"Is Uyeda coming up?" Kagome asked as she peered out the window again. He looked up at her face and winked. Kagome cocked her head to the side, questioning him silently if he was joining them. He merely let out a small smile before blowing her a kiss and walking away.

"What are you guys doing here?" Kagome asked turning away from the window and looking at the boys. Gregor and Miroku were whispering to each other and Seiichi was looking at pictures around her room.

"Kagome I'm hurt. Why does Gregor get a peep show and I don't…after all…I am your beloved." Miroku feigned her hurt. Kagome narrowed her eyes and stuck her nose in the air. Miroku held back a laugh at how stubborn the girl was. He came up close to her and drew her into a quick hug. He gave her a quick peck on the cheek and smiled down at her.

"Did you miss me Kagome?"

"Miss you? Why would I miss you? I had such great company today." She replied. Miroku noticed the twinkling in her eyes indicating she was playing. He tried to push down the jealousy.

"Hey Takai this looks like you in a dress." Seiichi said. Gregor was over there laughing at the portrait that indeed looked like Takai in a dress. Kagome's eyes widened as she realized they were looking at the pictures of her friends from the feudal age.

Miroku walked over and took the pictures from the two guys. His eyes darkened with sadness as he leafed through them. Sitting down by her desk he stopped at one of the pictures. Inuyasha was to the far left with Tetsaiga fully transformed and propped up against the ground. He had his nose in the air and his chest puffed out but one of his eyes was opened and looking forward. Kagome had done well to capture all the emotion that the hanyou had possessed.

Next to the hanyou was Kagome smiling from ear to ear with Shippo cuddled into her arms. Kagome's yellow backpack was by her feet. Sango was next in her usual kimono and Kirara in her arms. Kaede stood next to the pair with smile on her lips as well. She held a basket of herbs in her hand and a bow in the other.

In front of Kagome were Hakkaki and Ginta fighting over something they had obviously stolen from Kagome's backpack. Koga was leaning against Kagome's and Inuyasha's shoulders behind the group. He was winking and smiling a toothy smile, reminding Miroku of the wolf he was. Miroku knew this had to have happened after the battle with Naraku. Miroku sighed as he looked at the familiar and yet not familiar faces and his heart clenched. He wasn't there.

"Miroku are you okay?" Gregor whispered down as he saw his friends saddened expression. Seiichi had moved on to other pictures and Kagome was kneeling by Miroku's side.

"This took place after he was defeated. I just had to draw what everyone looked like, I didn't want to forget. This was the last time I saw them all together. Inuyasha left with Kikyo the next day and Koga, Hakkaki and Ginta had to leave to return their own territory."

"I just wished I was there to see him defeated." Miroku said his fist clenched now.

"But you're here now." Kagome said resting back on her heels and laying her head against his thigh. "I'm very grateful for that."

Miroku smiled and began to brush his fingers through her black tresses. Kagome smiled and relaxed into his touch. She closed her eyes and began listening to everything going around. Gregor and Miroku were still looking through the pictures she had drawn and it sounded like Seiichi had sat down on her bed.

It hit Kagome then. Gregor had called Takai Miroku. How would he know his former name?

Kagome's head shot up and she looked at Gregor with narrowed eyes. "Why did you call Takai Miroku?" She asked Gregor quietly. Seiichi was laying down with his eyes closed on her bed and she didn't want to disturb him.

Gregor's eyes widened as Miroku mumbled something under his breath. Kagome looked at Miroku and then back at Gregor. He was avoiding eye contact with her, they both were.

"Hey Seiichi's gone to sleep we better leave now before we all fall asleep and get busted." Gregor said walking over to the bed to wake Seiichi.

Miroku still hadn't moved and Kagome was still staring at him. She was missing something and he wasn't going to tell her.

"Let's go Takai." Gregor said, stressing his name this time. Seiichi climbed out the window and Gregor quickly followed. Miroku stood up and walked to the window he turned around to stare at Kagome. She walked up to him and was waiting for him to explain.

Miroku didn't say anything. He brought a hand up to her cheek and caressed it with his thumb. Kagome leaned into the hand and allowed herself to be calmed. Miroku leaned in and placed a chaste kiss on her lips before pulling away just slightly. He had a mischievous grin on his face and Kagome registered where his other hand was.

"Miroku don't!" Kagome cried as his other hand tied at the loose knot causing the sheet, and her only means over covering herself, to fall to the floor. Kagome blushed deep as she scrambled to get to the sheet and cover herself. She wrapped the sheet around her again and was about to yell at Miroku. She looked up and Miroku moved in so that he was barely touching her lips.

"Just beautiful." He said before capturing her lips in his for a passion filled kiss before he backed away and climbed out the window. Kagome went and leaned out the window waving goodbye at her friends. She watched them leave and sighed. Gregor turned around and winked at her as they left. What was up with him and why did he know Miroku's past name.
