How we first met

Kagome sighed. She seemed to be doing that a lot lately, ever since she came back from the Feudal Era. They had finally defeated Naraku, though the costs had been terrible. Sango and Miroku had died in one another's arms after whispering the words that they had both so wanted to hear. Kouga had sustained heavy damage in his fight against Kagura, so he hadn't been able to help with the final battle. Sesshoumaru had joined the fight near the beginning, and had been essential in the defeat of Naraku. Kagura, Kanna, and Hakudoshi had died.

When finally they came to Naraku, he had laughed and said that they would never be able to defeat him. When Kagome had shot that final, miko powered shot at him, he had smiled and said calmly “You may kill me now, miko, but I will return. Then, you will pay.” Then, the shot hit him.

InuYasha had gone to hell with Kikyo, When she had returned through the well, she had brought Shippou and Kohaku as well. She had promised Sango that she would take care of him for her, and she would. She adopted them both as her children; she had the adoption papers in a folder in her desk. She was brought out of her musings by the ground. She had tripped over something. “Hn.” Correction, someone. She stood up to start apologizing, but all thoughts of it left her mind when she saw what she tripped over. It was a boy, a very cute boy. What caught her attention though was the gaping hole in his stomach.

He glared at her and asked, “What?” She rolled her eyes, “You don't have to be so rude, ya know.” “Hn.” She glared at him, “Let me see that.” “Why should I?” She sighed, and pushed him down on his back, inspecting the wound. He `Hn'ed, but otherwise did nothing to stop her. She winced at how deep it was, and decided she had to help him. He'd bleed to death if she didn't.

She positioned her hands over the wound and said, warningly, “This is going to feel weird, K? Don't squirm, it will hurt if you do.” “Wha…” he started, but stopped as her hands glowed a light blue. His eyes went wide and he stopped moving. She couldn't heal him completely, but it was no longer life threatening. Once she was done she leaned against a nearby tree. He glared at her and said, dangerously, “What in hell did you do, miko?” She sighed and said “I healed you, demon or no, that wound would have killed you.” He glared at her, and asked curiously “Why would a miko help a demon anyway?” she smiled and said, “There was no evil in your aura, so I figured it couldn't hurt.” He stared at her. She smiled again and got up, saying, “If you want, you can stay with me until you're completely healed, my family won't mind.” He got up as well and said, in his normal monotone, “Hn.” She giggled, “Is that a yes?” He nodded, barely. She smiled and motioned for him to follow her.

They walked to her house in comfortable silence, only talking in order to introduce themselves, until they got in the door. Within moments she was besieged by three hyper-active children, who tackled her to the floor. They started tickling her immediately, knowing just where to get. When they finally stopped, Kagome said to Hiei, “Hiei, these are Souta, my brother,” He waved from his position on Kagome's stomach. “Shippou, my kit,” Hiei's eyes widened a fraction and the kit smiled at him from his place on Kagome's arm. “and Kohaku, my son.” His eyes widened even further and thoughts of killing the fathers of said children flitted through his head, as Kohaku smiled shyly.

Kagome got out from underneath the children and said, quietly, “I adopted Kohaku and Shippou, in case you're wondering.” His eyes went back to normal. She smiled at the three children and said, “This is Hiei, he's going to be staying here for a while.” Kohaku looked nervous and asked, quietly, “What-what is he, mother?” She smiled and said, “Don't worry, amai, he won't hurt you. I promise.” He seemed happy with her answer and asked, excitedly, “So, What type of demon are you?” Hiei stiffened, and said quietly, “You don't want to know.” Shippou looked curious and said “Yes we do!” The three children gave him the `kitsune/puppy-dog pout'.

Hiei sighed and said quickly, “Forbidden Child.” Kohaku's eyes widened, but the other two boys were in the dark. Souta looked at Kagome and asked, “What's that sis?” She smiled and said, “It means he's half fire apparition and half koorime, hikari.” Souta nodded, unfazed, and asked, “So, when's dinner?” Kagome laughed, a beautiful, tinkling sound, and replied, “About an hour. Maybe less if you wanna help?”

He scrunched up his nose, “But I wanted to show Hiei my video-games!” The three looked pleadingly at Hiei to get them out of it, and he did. He looked at Kagome and asked softly, “Is it alright with you?” She smiled and said, “If I minded, would I have offered for you to stay?” He shook his head. She smiled and said, “So, that means you can. The only rules here are, A) No broken bones or other serious injuries, B) The children tell me before they go anywhere, and C) The boys don't cook on their own. I like the house in one piece.” The children giggled.

After dinner Kagome set up the guest room for Hiei, and the children begged to spend the night in his room. Kagome and Hiei agreed. Over the next two weeks, Hiei found that he really couldn't say no to them. Any of them. He also learned Kagome's story. And in return, he told them his. He soon found that he didn't want to leave. Though he knew he had to. Two weeks after he had first arrived, someone showed up at the door.
