Hiei's POV
I got up to answer the door, along with Kohaku. It was our turn to watch the video game, so we had to. I wasn't really paying attention to who was outside, I was busy talking to Kohaku through the mind link that I shared with all four of the Higurashis. I opened the door, without focusing, “Hello, Higurashi Shrine, how may I help you?” Then, I focused, and saw Yusuke, Kurama, and Kuwabaka.
The idiot stared at me and asked, “What are you doing here, Shrimp?” my eyebrow twitched, and Kohaku glared at the oaf. Suddenly, a loud cry came from the den. Shippou had won again. I looked down at Kohaku “How much do you think Souta lost this time?” He smirked and said “500 yen, Hikari really thought he could beat Akai.” I chuckled, causing the saru to shiver, “He aught to know better, even I can't beat the kit.”
Almost immediately after, I found Shippou in my arms. He looked up at me and said, proudly “I beat him again, Hiei-papa. And the only reason you can't beat me is I had two months more than you to get the hang of it.” He smiled. I heard the idiot coughing, and Yusuke was staring. I rolled my eyes and motioned them in.
We went into the den, where Souta was sulking. He looked up at me and asked, “Who was at the door?” I motioned behind me with my head. He saw them. “Are those the Reikai Tentei, Hiei?” I nodded. Yusuke looked confused, and said “Hiei, why are you here? We've been looking for you. We were starting to think something had happened.” Kohaku smirked and said, “Something did, but mother healed him. So he's fine.” Yusuke crouched down to his level “And who is your mother, kid?” The taijiya boy growled “My name is Kohaku. My mother is…” “Right here Amai. Hello, my name is Kagome Higurashi, how may I help you?” She smiled at them. Yusuke stared and then turned to me “You're living with a miko?!” I smirked.
Kagome motioned for everyone to sit down. Kagome, the children and I sat on the couch, Souta and Kohaku in my lap, Yusuke and Kurama sat in chairs, and the baka saru was left the floor. Kagome smiled and said, “I guess Koenma sent you to check on the holy power and demon energies?” They nodded. “I'm also guessing you want to know why Hiei is here, ne?” They nodded again. She launched into the tale of the shikon-no-tama, sparing almost no details. She told them of her adventures, her family's slaughter by Naraku, and the defeat of Naraku. But she didn't tell them of her love for the inu-hanyou. Kohaku was crying as he listened to the tale of his sister's death. I hugged him to try to help a little. She also told them of how she adopted the children, and how she found me.
No sooner was she done, then Koenma appeared on the coffee table. He turned to Yusuke and said, “All of you, in my office. Now.” And disappeared. Yusuke sighed, and opened a portal. We all stepped through, and went up to the desk, where Koenma was sitting in his toddler form. He looked up and said, “Good, good. Now, Miss. Higurashi, I'm going to have to ask you to give me the jewel.” Seeing the look on her face he hurriedly added, “J-just for safekeeping!” We glared, every single one of us but Kuwabaka, at him.
Kagome snarled “I am the jewel's rightful protector. I am the only one who will hold the jewel.” I nodded and said, “I agree.” Kurama and Yusuke nodded. Kuwabaka said, “But at least in the vault it's safe from thieves.” He stared pointedly at me. Kohaku, who had his chain and sickle, twirled it and said, “If mother didn't trust Hiei-papa, she wouldn't have invited him to live with us. Nor would she have saved him in the first place. My mother is not some silly high school girl anymore. She can take care of the jewel, and we can take care of her.” He demonstrated his point by sending the sickle right by the idiot, making a scratch on his cheek. “Don't make us pull ranks to stop you.” Yusuke warned. Koenma sighed, and nodded. “Well then you've got another mission. You need to get the Millennium Items from a boy named Yugi Mouto and his friends.” “Humans?” Kurama asked, confused. Koenma nodded. “No way! Yugi Mouto, the King of Games!?” Souta shouted. Koenma looked at him funny, “What do you mean?” “Yugi Mouto is the King of Games. He lives in Domino. `Kaa-san took us to see him duel about a month ago.” Shippou said happily. Koenma stared. Then, brightening said “Then you are all moving to Domino High, Kagome and her family too, if she wants.” Kagome nodded. “Ok then, Botan will get you all set up and you'll start on Monday!”
