Prologue-Losing Me

--

It was a beautiful day; the sun was shining, the sky was blue and there wasn't a hint of clouds in the sky. It was also a beautiful day for another reason. Kagome Higurashi and her mother had finally been granted leave to travel.

"Mom are you sure we have everything?!" asked a young woman frantically. "I don't want to wake up tomorrow and have you say `Oh no! I forgot something!' and have us miss the plane."

The girl's mother smiled. "Yes Kagome. I'm sure I have everything. Do you?"

"Of course! You know I wouldn't check to make sure you had everything done when I didn't! That would be hypocritical." Kagome said as she grinned.

"I forgot, sorry."

"Forgot what?" Kagome asked anxiously.

"That you weren't hypocritical. Even though last week you told me to not to leave my dishes in the sink and yet you went and put your dishes in the sink." Kagome grinned.

"That's different!"

"Sure Kagome."

"It is!" Her mother laughed.

"Kagome how about you go say good bye to InuYasha. You know he asked you to spend the day with him today."

"Ok, well thanks mom. I'd better go call him and find out where we're meeting." Kagome's mom watched as the girl walked into the kitchen looking for the phone.

"Three, two, one…. zero."

"MOM! Where is the phone?!"

"It's in the living room honey! Right where you left it."

Kagome laughed. "I knew that!" Kagome's mother just smiled.

"Of course you did Kagome, of course you did."

A couple seconds later Kagome was out the door to go meet InuYasha for the last time….

--

"Where is he!" An angry Kagome asked to the water streaming out of the fountain behind her. "He's always late! Always! It seems that he is incapable of being on time!"

Kagome had been waiting for half an hour after their arranged time. She was impatient, as he had told her he needed to tell her something.

`InuYasha I am going to strangle you when I see you!' She yelled inside of her head.

"Now, now Kagome. I don't want to die by you strangling me." Asked a boyish voice that cracked, as it went deeper.

"How did you know I wanted to do that to you!?" Kagome asked, still facing the fountain.

"Your hands are clenched and your knuckles are turning white."

"Oh."

"Kagome what would do you without me to keep your violent nature in check?"

"Easy. If it weren't for you I wouldn't be violent!"

"Ok I admit to that." InuYasha said with a huge grin on his face.

"Good."

"That's not very nice Kag-Chan."

Kagome blushed at the mention of her childhood nickname. "So. It's you I'm talking to. Now what did you want to talk to me about InuYasha-Kun?"

InuYasha looked at the ground, his face burning furiously. "I just wanted to say…"

"KAGOME! WAIT I HAVE TO GIVE YOU SOMETHING!"

"InuYasha you'll have to tell me later. Is that ok?" Kagome asked as she looked at the boy that had been her bestfriend since kindergarten.

"Yes…."

"Kagome! I finally caught up to you! I went over to your house to see if you were home, but your mom said you were out with InuYasha! But she didn't know exactly where you had gone. So I had to go to all of the spots where we usually hang out. And than…. I found you and Inu!"

"Miroku, you know we always meet at the fountain."

"I know but," Miroku subtly moved to where Kagome was. "every now and than, there is a time you don't. And I didn't want this to be the time you didn't. Anyway I wanted to give you this."

"Give me wha-!"

-Slap-

"MIROKU YOU DAMN LECHER! KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF ME! YOU KNOW MY BUTT IS PARTICULARLY OFF LIMITS!"

Miroku grinned sheepishly. "I know…. But I couldn't help it. It looked lonely all by it's self!"

"MY BUTT ALWAYS LOOKS LONELY TO YOU LECHER!"

-SLAP-

"What was that for!?" Miroku asked, rubbing his bright red slap marks.

"It was for you being a lecher."

"Oh well in that case…"

"MIROKU!"

InuYasha looked at Kagome wistfully watching her chase Miroku around and wished that he were the person she was chasing around. `Oh Kagome. I care for you so much! I don't know how I'm going to be able to see you leave.' InuYasha remembered the first time he had first met her. It had been the first day of Kindergarten and InuYasha was being chased by a bunch of girls wanting to touch his ears, but Kagome had defended him…

-FLASHBACK-

"AHHHHHHHH! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!" cried a young InuYasha.

Dark blue eyes watched the scene with certain amusement. It was always funny to see the boys being chased by girls.

"EEEEEEEP! NO I'M SURROUNDED!"

The dark blue eyes danced with amusement. The boy had tripped over a rock and fallen. The group of girls now surrounded him. The owner of the dark blue eyes slowly got up.

"As fun as this was, I should go help him." Said the blue-eyed person to nobody in particular.

The person slowly walked over to where the girls were starting to reach for his ears. "Hey! Leave him alone!"

"Why should we…?" asked one of the older looking girls, not knowing who she was talking to.

"Because I'll come over there and touch you!"

"Touch me?" The girl turned her head. "AHHHHHHHH! IT'S KAGAME! RUN! SHE HAS COOTIES! Kagome smiled. It was so fun watching those girls run.

Kagome walked towards the boy. "There you are! Rescued."

The boy stood up and dusted off his pants. "Thank you Kagame." Kagome shook her head. No one seemed able to pronounce her name right.

"By the way my name is Ka-Go- Me not Ka-Ga-Me."

"Ok. I'll try to remember that."

"Good, `cause I just saved your butt." Kagome saw something on the tops of his head glint. "OHH! Pretty!"

"What?!" InuYasha looked at the girl and saw a scary look her eyes. "AAHHH! Get away from me!"

-rub rub-

A growling/purring noise came out of InuYasha's chest as Kagome rubbed his ears. She had a huge smile on her face, like she had just discovered the world.

"I love your ears! And you didn't tell me your name."

"What? Oh. It's InuYasha."

"Well Inu-Chan, in return for me saving you, you have to be my bestestfriend!" InuYasha blushed. "You can call me Kag-Chan."

"Why are you using Japanese words? We live in China."

Kagome sighed and got a wistful look in her eyes. "I love Japan. I want to go there so much. I don't know why, I just do." Kagome smiled. "So are we friends?"

"Yes."

"Thank you!"

-End of FlashBack-

"So Miroku was that grope what you had to give me?" Kagome asked good-naturedly.

"No! Actually, I wanted to give you this!" Miroku handed Kagome a thinly wrapped rectangular box. "Open it."

"Uh, ok." Kagome carefully unwrapped it, wanting to keep the paper. Inside was a gold box. Kagome lifted off the lid and InuYasha and Miroku exchanged knowing glances. "Oh! It's beautiful! Thank you Miroku!"

"Well actually it wasn't just my gift, it was Inu's to." Kagome threw her arms around InuYasha's neck "Thank you!" Than did the same thing to the other boy, leaving them both blushing.

"I'll put it on as soon as I get home." The boys nodded. "So how about we get going?"

---

Kagome arrived home from her day with her friends at about eight o'clock. "MOM I'M HOME!" Kagome called out to the quiet house.

"Hey Honey! I'm in my room! Come on up!" Kagome smiled.

"Ok." Kagome walked up the stairs, after grabbing a drink for her mom and herself. InuYasha had been quiet all day, but after Miroku had come she hadn't had another chance to talk to him privately. Kagome snapped out of her thoughts as she arrived at her mom's door.

"Mom, I'm coming in."

"Ok." Kagome pushed open the door to see her mother reading a book.

"Mom if you read all of your books now, you aren't going to have anything to read on the plane."

"We're only going to Japan Kagome, It's not that long of a flight."

"So?" Kagome sighed and changed the subject. "Well anyway, I'm going to go to bed. I am so tired! We went everywhere today! To the mall, arcade, museum…. Oh which reminds me, would you put this locket on for me? I can't seem to get the clasp…"

"Sure Kagome." Kagome walked over to her mother and handed her the locket. She smiled when she opened it and saw a picture of Kagome and InuYasha on one side, and a picture of Kagome and Miroku on the other side. "Kagome you are really lucky to have such good friends. You know that?"

Kagome nodded. "I know I am, but are you just about done?" Kagome's mother secured the clasp.

"Yep, I'm done."

"Thanks mom."

"No Problem Kagome."

--

The next dawned as opposite as the day before it. It was cold, the sky was covered in clouds and there was a slight drizzle.

"I was hoping it would be sunny today." Kagome commented as she shivered in the cold of the new day.

"So did I." Kagome's mom said as she put her bag in the backseat of the car. "Nervous Kagome?"

"A little. I'm worried a government official will come and say we can't go."

"Don't' worry Kagome! That's all dealt with. Lets just go." Kagome nodded.

"Ok." (N/A Sorry for rushing the story so far? How do you like it?)

---

The drive to the airport was long and boring. Kagome fell asleep soon after leaving the driveway.

Her mother shook her head, but kept driving.

--

"Kagome wake-up! We're late! Come on we're going to miss our plane!" With that comment Kagome shot awake, was grabbing bags out of the trunk, and was racing up the stairs.

"COME ON MOM!"

"I'm coming!" Kagome and her mother rushed to the open terminal.

The lady at the counter smiled. "You are just in time."

"Thank-you!" Kagome and her mother said at the same time, "We appreciate it."

--

Kagome and her mother sat in their seats. "We made it! Thank the heavens."

"Yes we did."

Kagome reached down and pulled some earplugs out of her bag. "I'm going to go to sleep. Wake me up when we get there.

"Ok Kagome."

--

It was a boring plane ride, despite the clouds and storms around them. "I'm so happy we didn't have turbulence!" With that last word the plane shook, dumping baggage everywhere. "Oh no!"

--

Kagome felt the shaking in her dream and woke up. "Mom what's happening!?" Kagome asked her mother frantically.

"We are in some turbulence. Just hold on." Kagome nodded and looked out the window. The winds were battering against the plane harder and harder. She heard a creak, and the wing snapped.

"Is that supposed to happen?!" Kagome screamed. Someone around Kagome screamed no. "OH GOD!"

The last thing before Kagome's plane hit the water was, "InuYasha, I think I'm in love with you."

--

The news of the plane crash reached InuYasha's ears two days later. There had only been one survivor found, a person who had been sitting behind Kagome. The person as soon as they hit the water had taken a breath. She had come back to China to find someone. She had noticed a girl about the same age as her wearing a gold locket and had found it in the water. She had come back to give it to him.

InuYasha went to open the door at ten o'clock in the morning. `I wonder who that could be.' He thought to himself. He opened the door to see a girl who looked so much like Kagome you'd think it had been her.

"Kagome?"

The girl shook her head. "I'm not her. I just came to give you this…." The girl handed the locket to InuYasha.

"How did you get this!?" InuYasha demanded.

"My plane went down and when I resurfaced I found this floating. I remembered that the girl who sat in front of me wore it, and the last thing she said before the plane hit the water was something about a boy named InuYasha, so I decided to come give it to you."

InuYasha reached out and took the locket. "She idolized Japan, she always wanted to go there… no she never will."

"I'm sorry. There was nothing I could do…"

InuYasha nodded. "I don't blame you, I blame the DAMN PLANE!" InuYasha yelled as grief shook his body. "Kagome I'm so sorry…"

Complete Sadness

Families were torn apart by the horrible crash of plane 2J6. There was only one known survivor of this horrible crash, Kikyou Takashi, and she quotes, "It was very frightening. I looked out the window to see the wing rip off and fly away and the next thing I knew, we were hitting the water. All I had time for was to take a breath." One of the people on the plane also had a very close friend. When we interviewed the friend, he refused to comment if they had a close relationship, but by the gaunt, tired look on the man's face, I was assured that he cared for her very much. . The young woman, the only other young woman on the plane, had been the first one to see the wing rip off. Unfortunately her body was never found. Experts say that it had probably found a current and would wash up in a couple weeks. But her body would be so damaged that she would be virtually unrecognizable. A memoriam to commemorate this young woman, who was smart beautiful, and well loved, will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2004, at 7:00 p.m. It is open to public, as Kagome was well known by all. A sad fact about this young woman was this was her first time traveling. Her and her mother had finally gotten a grant to travel She was going to Japan. As her friend quotes, "She idolized Japan, she always wanted to go there…now she never will." It is despairing and sad, that this girl's dreams were dashed so young….

InuYasha threw away the paper. He was sick of reading it. He hated the descriptions of himself, "gaunt, tired look…" InuYasha sighed. "DAMN IT KAGOME! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO GO AND DIE! WHY?!" InuYasha cried, and turned on the TV. hoping to get a break. But, sadly he didn't. It was everywhere…

"The Plane 2J6 crashed here, two days ago, there was only one survivor… her name was Kikyou Takashi…"

InuYasha flipped to another channel. "Plane 2J6 was said to be faulty. The winds shouldn't have ripped off the wing…"

Another channel. "Kikyou Takashi gave us a quote, from a private interview…."

InuYasha turned off the TV and grabbed his shoes. He didn't think he'd be able to live without Kagome, it felt as though his hearty would break. "KAGOME WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DIE!"
