Decision

 

Sesshoumaru lay awake in his bed possibly the only thing real in this nightmare thinking of how that maiden Kagome had broken a heart made of stone.

 

“Kagome, how did this happen? How could you a simple human girl destroy my barriers?” he questioned himself as if the answers were to fall from the sky.

 

“Did I truly love you Kagome?”

 

The questions were eating him alive and he couldn't take the torture anymore. Releasing his mind he drifted into unconsciousness.

 

***Dream***

 

“Sesshoumaru-sama! Sesshoumaru-sama!” came a young girls voice through the foggy meadow. “Sesshoumaru-sama, Kagome-chan and the others are ready to leave.”

 

“I see. Rin return to the old miko's village during the battle. When it is over I shall return.” He said returning his swords to their proper place at his waist and walking to the campsite.

 

“Hai” she replied following him.

 

“Sesshoumaru-sama, what if you don't return?” she questioned staring up at him unafraid of the answer.

 

“This Sesshoumaru cannot be felled in battle I have no equal not even the makeshift demon Naraku.” He answered in a cold tone.

 

“Oh.” Was all she could say turning her gaze to the forest floor.

 

When they arrived at the campsite Jaken was preparing for his departure with the group as well were the rest.

 

“Jaken, cease your actions.” Came the impassive voice from behind him.

 

“Oh milord I was just….”

 

“You will be taking Rin and Ah-Uh to the old miko's village.” He said observing the looks he got from his brother and Kagome.

 

“But milord I want to accompany you into battle.” He pleaded.

 

“If you do not obey me Jaken you will not live to see the battle.” He said impossibly coldly.

 

Jaken stumbled back and bowed lowly to his master and began rushing with Ah-Un and Rin to the village fearing his master's wrath.

 

During the long silent walk Sesshoumaru and Kagome had fallen behind the group to talk.

 

“Sesshoumaru why did you tell the young girl to leave?” Kagome asked staring up at him trying to read his face.

 

“I told her to leave because a little girl has no place in battle.” He answered simply.

 

“What you mean you were caring for her well being?” she asked confused with his answer.

 

“No. She is no help there for she doesn't need to see battle.” He answered again.

 

“What about me? Soon your going to tell me I`m not allowed to fight.”

 

“You shouldn't.” he said.

 

“Why shouldn't I?”

 

“Because you are to valuable to me.” He admitted.

 

“W..What?” she asked to make sure she wasn't going deaf and heard him correctly.

 

“You, Kagome are to valuable to me and I will not let you leave me.”

 

Kagome's eyes widened and she stopped completely. `I'm of worth to him, the demon who hated all humans. How is that possible?'

 

Sesshoumaru's face was mere inches away from Kagome's. His breath tickling her skin as he whispered the three words that she would never had expected from him of all people.

 

“I love you.”

 

Before he could complete the transaction the sky turned from a clear blue to and ominous black.

 

“Naraku.”

 

The miasma began to form getting thicker by the second until Naraku's true form was revealed walking through the thick miasma.

 

“Was I interrupting something Lord Sesshoumaru?” came the sadistic voice belonging to their sworn enemy.

 

“Naraku today is the day of your reckoning. You will die.” He said the anger swelling within him for interrupting.

 

“Not even you and the miko can destroy me.” He said laughing at the anger in the demon lord's eyes.

 

“Naraku!” Sesshoumaru yelled with pent up anger before the entire scene turned white.

 

********* Screen returns*******

 

As the dust clears two bodies lay motionless and bleeding after a devastating battle. Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha had finally worked together in the fight against Naraku but at a price.

 

“Sesshoumaru! Inuyasha!” Kagome yelled tears rimming her eyes as she fell next to their still forms.

 

“K..Kagome” came a weak voice surrounded by a deep red.

 

“Inuyasha! Your alive!” she yelled joy filling her being.

 

“N..No I'm dying, don't try and save me the miasma can't be removed form my body.” He said weakly sparing a light smile.

 

“Inuyasha.. No! You can't die!Please!” she shook him lightly only to get no effect from him. Nothing.

 

Kagome wept waking a dying demon lord by her side. He reached for her only to be rewarded with devastating pain.

 

“K..Kagome. Don't cry for us we fought as best we could and for that I respect my brother.” He said his eyes glazed over.

 

“Sesshoumaru please don't leave me….” She whispered her eyes downcast and tear sinking into his cold skin.

 

“Kagome. I fought for you and for that I am proud. Feel what you have done to me.” He weakly reached for her hand grasping it and laying it on his slowing hearts pace.

 

“You have given me a reason to return to my former self. And for that I am proud and love you for it” he said weakly giving her the only tear she had ever seen from him and his final words.

 

`And for that I am proud and love you for it.'

 

Soon his heart stopped and his eyes slowly closed. She knew. He was dead. The only person who loved her was dead.

 

She silently wept into his chest wanting to die with him. He never even kissed her, but she knew he would love her in this life and the next.
