Part: Intoduction
Kagome leaned against the well, thinking about the festival. Inuyasha's probably waiting for me on the other side… She thought. Sighing softly, she picked up her backpack and leapt in. The feeling of flying through the thick air of the well was strange as always. Landing on the ground, she began her ascent into the Sengoukai age of Japan.
"Hey." Inuyasha said from up in his tree. "How long ya stayin this time?" His ears twitched.
"I don't know. I brought enough clothes for the rest of the week. I hope we can find another jewel shard." Her voice softened as she spoke. The dog hanyou's inquisitive expression grew more interested.
"Somethin's wrong. Well?" He said, leaping out of the tree. Today Kagome was wearing a blue tank top and jeans. Her scent just wasn't right at all. It had a tint of sadness to it. Why do I care? Inuyasha thought.
"It's nothing. Nothing at all." She walked softly past him, and he saw a tear in her eye. He reached up his hand and brushed it away. He absolutely hated seeing her cry after that first time in his father's tomb.
"Tell me."
"No."
"Tell me!"
She glared fiercely at him. "Why do you care?" She spat.
" I just wanna know so you'll stop crying!" He yelled at her.
"I'll… tell you later…" She brushed past him, feeling a slight tingle of warmth.
`What a strange girl.' Inuyasha thought softly. Suddenly his ears pricked up and he sniffed the air. Preparing his claws he looked about.
"I don't sense any shards, Inuyasha. Maybe it's just some stupid demon looking for the Shikon no Tama. " She turned and walked off.
"Maybe you're right."
As they neared the village, Sango's shouting could be heard easily.
"What do you MEAN you didn't mean to?!" Casting a glance at each other, they guessed Miroku had done something again. "How could you grab me there and `not mean to' ?!" She had Miroku pinned to the ground with her hands firmly around his neck.
"Do you think he can breathe?" Kagome whispered to Inuyasha.
"Probably not." He replied looking closer at Sango's stranglehold.
Hearing the pair approach, Sango released her death-grip on Miroku's throat, and Miroku scrambled away quickly. "Hello, Kagome!" She said cheerfully. A flicker of movement caught Inuyasha's eye.
"What's that?" He growled, preparing for a fight.
"I'm telling you, it's nothing!" Kagome replied, sighing. "But we should get going now. The shards won't gather themselves!" She walked in the direction of Kaede's hut.
"So, child, ye are back? That wasn't a long trip." She gazed at Kagome's suddenly grief stricken eyes. Deciding to press the matter later, she began to report. "Strange things have been reported in a village east of here. Methinks you should go look into it. It sounds like the work of a pack of demon panthers."
"Sure! Did you hear that guys!" She yelled, looking out the door at Inuyasha and Miroku. Miroku wasn't coming inside because he was afraid Sango might decide to jump him again, and Inuyasha always stood in the doorway. "Let's go!" she said as cheerfully as she possibly could while her heart was in turmoil. So many things have happened...
