Attraction

Part 1

`How'd I get myself into this?!' Kagome walked along a dark corridor covered inscriptions and vines, holding a single candle. The vines were covered in large, dangerous thorns, and she tried not to brush against them, but that was impossible in places where the tunnel narrowed. Covered in scratches, she wished she'd never gotten lost. `How'd I manage to lose everyone anyway?' She thought. `I told them to follow me to the jewel shard...' She heard a deep growl. `Oh no! It's another demon wolf... Just my luck!' She broke into a run, hoping it hadn't seen or smelled her. Tearing around edges and slamming into thorned walls, she had managed to totally lose her way, and ended up in a dead end. The wall was strange; it had engravings on it of two women playing in the rain and soon after one crying and falling into a pit and being surrounded by wolves. The shards of the Shikon no Tama began to glow, and 6 different colored circles on each side of the door began to glow as well. The wolf was right behind her, its teeth dripping with saliva, and she frantically began pounding on the wall. The wall fell open, and she stumbled into an eerie green room. Twp trees were located in the center of the room, and ranches of vines spread away from them out of the room. `So THAT'S were all the vines are coming from! Inuyasha should be able to find me if he just follows the vines! But... they are so tangled, it would take him forever to get here! I can't beat a demon on my own!' She began to worry. The trees began to shed an eerie light, turning the room shades of green and black. Kagome drew in a sharp breath and stared at the object she hadn't noticed before between the trees. It was a stone slab, and on it rested a woman, with beautiful gold and brown hair. She had wolf ears, Kagome noticed. So she was a demon. Gold and black fur covered her ears, which sported a little tuft of brown fur each on the top. She wore a black kimono, with a silver middle sash. Golden jewelry adorned her hands and feet, while each beautifully fur covered ear had one large golden hoop. A breeze began to stir in the room as Kagome walked forward. Laying her hand softly on the blade that the girl held, she noticed it was warm. Very warm. Too warm. A bright circle of light erupted from the seal on the sword, and it shattered. The woman's eyes opened as Kagome stumbled back, horrified.

"Hmhmhmhm.... heheheheheh... kukuuukukukuukuk....." The figure laughed, louder and louder, as the wolf cowered in a corner. The woman rose from her lounging position. Suddenly the demon stood, and pounced on the back of an off-guard Kagome. She landed face first in what could have only been a pile of bones, and screamed. The demon wolf's claws and teeth were tearing at the vulnerable flesh of her back, shredding the skin and shirt. The woman laughed softly and leaned over Kagome's face.

"I really should reward you for freeing me. But isn't seeing me awake reward enough?" The woman said, flexing her hands. She kissed her fingers and touched Kagome's lips. "It's been a long time since I was imprisoned. A very long time." As she said that a wall crashed in and Kirara jumped in with Sango and Miroku on her back and Inuyasha at her side. By now the wolf was digging dangerously deep into Kagome's flesh. She yelled out again, but this time it was more pitiful.

"Kagome!!" Inuyasha screamed and quickly killed the demon wolf with one shot. The smell of blood sickened him as always. Sango's hands flew to her mouth when she saw the damage done to Kagome.

"That… is… fatal…" Sango breathed out softly. "She won't survive that wound." Tears welled in Sango's eyes.

"Kagome-chan!!!!" Screamed Shippo.

"I'm terribly sorry about my pet's doing, but I have other matters to attend to!" The woman said, and vanished, still cackling. Inuyasha rushed to Kagome and grimaced at the horrendous damage. She was still awake, but her eyes were soft and slightly glazed over. She was dying.

"No…" Inuyasha whispered hoarsely before gathering her up in his arms. She whimpered roughly as Inuyasha shifted her in his arms so he was barely touching her back. Blood ran down his arms as he leaned over and jumped up, bursting through the ceiling of the cavern. Miroku and Sango, holding Shippo, jumped on Kirara's back and sped after him.

Inuyasha shook the shards of dirt from his hair and growled away the tears gathering in his eyes. Kagome weakly reached up with all of the strength in her and griped Inuyasha's back, choking down sobs of pain. He stroked her hair cautiously and hugged her close to his chest. She was taking quick, short breaths that were definitely not a good sign, but showed that the wolf demon might not have injured her lungs. `Her scent… is mixed with that horrid smell of blood…' Inuyasha thought, choking down a desire to retch because of the scent. He bounded from tree to tree back to the camp they had made previously in the forest. He thought about setting her down on her straw mat, but decided against it. Instead, he laid down his shirt and let her rest on it. She was lying on her stomach so the wound wouldn't collect too much dirt. `I can't wait for Sango!' He thought, bringing up his courage and cutting the straps to her shirt. He peeled off the shredded shirt piece by piece, trying not to hurt Kagome more than she already was. She whimpered and stayed awake the entire time. Inuyasha felt extremely sorry for her. Another garment was on under this one, and he pulled that one off easily. The wolf's claws had already cut it through. Softly lifting her up, he slid off the rest of the clothing, not looking as he accidentally brushed a hand down her chest.

Sango and Miroku had approached, but stayed back, watching Inuyasha's caring gestures. Miroku smiled. "You were right." He whispered to Sango. She wanly smiled back.

They walked forward softly, but Inuyasha's ears twitched and he looked up at them. Sorrow was clear in his expressive golden eyes. You could pick up emotions in the golden honey orbs easily. His voice cracked at his first try at speech, but then he spoke up. "Sango. Is there anything you can do?"

She walked over knowing in her mind that there wasn't. Miroku took one look at Kagome's gruesome wounds and led Shippo away screaming for his Kagome-chan. Sango shook her head softly, tears streaming down her cheeks. "No. She's not going to live… She might survive in pain for a week at most…" Sango looked away, not being able to bear the thought anymore.

"There is a way." Inuyasha muttered. "But you're not going to like it."
