Awaken
Chapter 1
Unconscious Movements
`Awaken.'
"Nani?"
`Awaken the real you from inside'
"Who are you?"
`Awaken, let your real self out.'
"My real self?"
`Awaken, and begin your journey.'
"What journey? What do you mean?"
`Awaken, and find the real you.'
Another dream. For days on end Kagome kept having this dream, never being able to hear it clearly. This was the first and only time she was able to make out what was being spoken to her. Why now? Why her? She didn't understand.
Seeing as how she wasn't going to be able to go back to sleep, she got up. Changing from her pajamas into a light blue dress she went outside to greet the sun. Before making it outside she noticed her mother already preparing breakfast. "You're up early Kagome. Is something wrong?" Her mother asked.
"No, I just woke up early, that's all." Kagome lied. She hadn't told anyone about her muffled dreams.
"Oh. Well, breakfast should be ready soon, so don't go far."
"I won't." Kagome smiled and stepped outside.
Stretching, Kagome smiled as she admired the beauty of the world. Sengoku Jidai really was a great time with its lush trees, blue sky, and blossoming flowers. Her dream no longer bothered her as she sat down in the grass. Lying down on her back she closed her eyes and breathed in heavily.
"You never get tired of laying in the grass, do you nee-chan?" Kagome's younger brother, Souta asked. He yawned and tried to fix his messy hair.
"Nope, and I never will." Kagome said getting up.
"Breakfast is ready." Souta announced.
Kagome stood up and followed her brother into the house. They all sat down and ate their meals. `Awaken.' Kagome faintly heard. She dropped her chopsticks and looked around for the owner of the voice.
"Kagome? What's wrong?" Her mother asked.
"I thought...it's nothing." Kagome said.
"Are you sure?" Souta asked.
"I'm sure." Kagome said as she grabbed her plate. "I'm not really hungry. I'll be outside."
"Alright." Her mother replied.
Kagome walked outside and thought about her dream. Until today, she could only hear a muffled voice. Something had to be special about today that the dream would come in clearly. Who was talking to her? Awaken her true self? She didn't understand.
So deep in thought she didn't even realize she'd walk to the forest path. `Awaken.' The whisper seemed to come from the forest. Hesitantly she stepped onto the forest path. As soon as she stepped into the forest her eyes went blank and slowly she began walking down the path.
Not conscious of her actions Kagome walked deeper and deeper into the forest. This was the only time she'd ever stepped foot inside the forest, let alone be close to it. Her mother had always warned her to stay away from the forest. That it was too dangerous to even be within twenty feet of it.
Until today she'd heeded those warnings. Now she was walking through the middle of the forest unaware of her actions.
~~~~~~~~~
Slowly coming too, Kagome opened her eyes. Where was she? What was she doing? She didn't remember ever going anywhere with a lot of trees. Looking around, she noticed it was late at night. She was only able to see what the moon shone upon through the tall trees surrounding her.
She stood up and tried to figure out where she was. As she turned around to look behind her she noticed someone pinned to a tree with an arrow. The moonlight shown on the person's face, letting her get a distinct look at who it was.
A man pinned to a tree? "Hello?" Kagome called out hoping the man was awake.
Seeing as how the man wasn't answering she turned around to search for her way home. She screamed when she saw two red eyes glaring at her from the shadows. From the look of the glare they weren't happy she was around. Slowly she backed away from the eyes and ended up bumping into the man pinned to the tree.
Suddenly she felt a pulse run through her body when she touched the man. A shiver ran up her spine as the eyes glowed brighter and she heard growling. Suddenly the thing stepped out of the shadows and revealed itself. A wolf. A large wolf was staring at her, growling.
Kagome gasped as the wolf kept coming closer towards her. She looked around for a place to run but didn't have much of a chance as the wolf took off towards her. She jumped out of the way in time for the wolf to miss her. She scrambled to her feet and started running in the direction the wolf came from.
She got about two feet away when the wolf's fangs sank into her leg. Screaming Kagome kicked the wolf with her free leg. Growing tired and her vision getting blurry from the loss of blood, the last thing she heard was a growl from behind the wolf as she succumbed to the welcoming darkness.
~~~~~~~~~
Waking from unconsciousness Kagome opened her eyes. It was dark and she was still in the forest. She noticed a fire in front of her and a red haori draped over her. Sitting up she grabbed her leg. "Itai." She said.
"Don't move around so much and it won't hurt." A gruff voice called out.
Kagome panicked and tried moving away but the pain in her leg was much stronger than her fear. For some reason she wasn't as scared as she'd thought she'd be. A man stepped out of the shadows and into the firelight. Gasping, she realized it was the man pinned to the tree.
He was tall, and he was wearing a white inner haori and red pants. Long white hair reached past his waist. He had striking amber eyes but what really caught her attention was the pair of puppy ears on the top of his head.
"Who are you?" Kagome asked.
"Keh, I'm the one who saved your ass." The man said as he sat down in front of the fire. "Be careful with my shirt."
"This is yours?" Kagome asked as she slipped her arms through and wrapped it tight around her.
"Yeah. You were shaking after I bandaged your leg."
"Who are you?" Kagome asked.
"Inuyasha."
"I'm Kagome. Thank you for saving me." She said.
"Yeah, yeah. I don't even remember saving you." Inuyasha said.
"You don't?"
"No, all I remember is standing above the wolf with its blood all over my hand." Inuyasha explained.
"Oh." Kagome said. "Why were you pinned to the tree?"
"I don't remember. I only remember my name and what happened after I woke up."
"Oh I wonder why the wol-"
`Awaken.'
"What were you saying?" Inuyasha asked.
"Huh?" Kagome asked.
"You started talking and trailed off." Inuyasha said.
Kagome's eyes closed and her head bent as her breathing grew heavy. "Kagome?" Inuyasha called out. Maybe she passed out. "Kagome?"
Kagome's head lifted and she opened her eyes. Her eyes were blank and she was devoid of any emotions. "Awaken, you're past memories and true self." Kagome said in a voice that wasn't her own.
"Kagome?" Inuyasha called out, confused of what was happening.
"Protect and care for Kagome. Travel with her as the both of you find out your true pasts and duties."
"You're not Kagome? What do you mean travel and find our true pasts?" Inuyasha asked. He got up and shook Kagome. "What do you mean?"
"Inuyasha, what are you doing?" Kagome yelled.
"Your you." Inuyasha said. He stopped shaking her but kept his hands on her shoulders.
"What do you mean, I'm me? Of course I am." Kagome asked.
"You weren't yourself. You said to `Travel with her as the both of you find out your true pasts.'" Inuyasha explained.
"What are you talking about?" Kagome asked.
"Your eyes blanked and you said, `Awaken, you're past memories and true self.' But it wasn't your voice. Then when I called your name you said, `Protect and care for Kagome. Travel with her as the both of you find out your true pasts and duties.'" Inuyasha explained.
"I said that?" Kagome asked. `Awaken', it's what was said in her dream. "Travel and find out our true pasts? I don't understand."
"Neither do I. Do you remember anything of your past?" Inuyasha asked.
"Only after I turned ten. Okaa-san said I was in an accident and lost my memory." Kagome said. "I need to talk to her. I think she's hiding something."
"Hiding something?" Inuyasha asked.
"Every time I bring up my past she always changes the subject and says it's too painful to remember. But lately, I've been having this weird dream. It was hazy until today. A voice kept saying to awaken and let my true self out. Journey to learn about my past." Kagome said.
"It seems like our pasts are intertwined somehow." Inuyasha said.
Kagome tried to ignore the pain as she tried to stand up. "What are you doing?" Inuyasha asked.
"I have to find my way home. I need to talk to Okaa-san." Kagome said.
"Your in no condition to find your way out of the forest." Inuyasha said as he pushed Kagome back down onto the ground. "Wait until morning, I'll help you."
"You will?" Kagome asked.
"Yeah, it seems like we need each other for something, so I might as well see if I find out something when you talk to your mom." Inuyasha said.
"Arigato." Kagome smiled. "Why are you helping me so much?"
"I don't really know." Inuyasha said. "Your scent smells familiar, but I don't know why."
"My scent?" Kagome asked.
"I can smell and hear very well." Inuyasha said.
"Oh. Can I ask you something?" Kagome asked.
"What?"
"What are you? You have inu ears, amber eyes, white hair, and claws."
"I'm a hanyou. Half demon, half human." Inuyasha explained.
"A hanyou? I didn't know demons were around this area." Kagome said.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, no one in my village has seen a demon for years." Kagome explained. "They stay away from this area for some reason."
"I wonder how long I was asleep." Inuyasha said. His ears twitched as Kagome yawned. "Why don't you get some rest?"
"I would, but I can't get comfortable. I was only able to sleep earlier because I was unconscious." Kagome said.
Inuyasha sighed still wondering why he bothered to help her so much. He moved to sit against the tree Kagome was leaning against and brought her into his lap. "What are you doing?" Kagome asked.
"You can't get comfortable leaning against the tree or lying on the ground, so you can lean on me." Inuyasha said.
"But, won't you be uncomfortable? Aren't you cold without your haori?" She asked with a blush on her cheeks.
"I'll be fine." Inuyasha said. "Just go to sleep."
"Ok. Thanks Inuyasha." Kagome yawned again. "Oyasumi."
"Night." Inuyasha said. Kagome shivered and he wrapped his arms tighter around her.

Aww they just met and already they're cuddling against each other. Well I know this chapter doesn't reveal much but that's how the story is. You'll find more questions that need to be answered along the way. I know it seems like they're moving fast but it fits with how the fic is going. Answers will be revealed as the story forms. As usual this fic is different from my other ones. Hope you like it. Let me know what you think. Ja ne.
Just to let you know I won't be updating regularly on this fic. This is just to pass time and have something to write when I have writer's block. So don't expect updates regularly.
Thanks to my puppy slave for editing. Thanks readers and reviewers. Thanks especially to those who have stuck with my stories so far!
