Chapter Four: Kouga
“So Kagome did you leave behind a boyfriend when you came here?” Inuyasha asked as he led her to her locker.
“No,” she paused thoughtfully. “There was this one guy though, but it wouldn't have worked out anyway.” She and Inuyasha stopped at a group of lockers.
“This one's yours. Here's your combo,” He handed her a slip of paper. Kagome tried the combination a couple times but couldn't get the lock open. She laughed slightly embarrassed.
“I suck with lockers,” she said.
“Allow me.” Inuyasha said. He reached past her and gave the lock a few deft twirls. The locker opened. “One of my many talents,” Inuyasha said smiling when Kagome thanked him.
“Bout how much time do we have? I want to decorate my locker.” Kagome asked.
“More than enough.” Inuyasha answered. He leaned on the locker next to hers and watched her pull various Items out of her book bag. First she pulled out a long piece of green construction paper and fitted it to the inside of the locker door. Inuyasha raised a brow in question.
“So my pictures and stuff can't get stuck to the locker door, plus you never know who used a locker before you.” Kagome explained. Inuyasha nodded. Next she hung a magnetic mirror at just the right height for her. She then began to pin up various pictures. As Inuyasha watched wondering who the people in the pictures were and paying particular attention to the ones with Kagome in them another guy came up behind them.
“Hey Inuyasha, what's up?” Inuyasha turned to see who was addressing him.
“What's up Hoshi?” Inuyasha said to the boy. “Kagome, this is the court jester here at Sansuko High Miroku Hoshi. Miroku this is Kagome she's new.”
“Court jester?” complained Miroku. “And just what are you?”
“I'm the prince. Although if given the choice I would be King.” Inuyasha answered. Miroku turned to Kagome and took one of her hands kneeling in front of her.
“My beloved Queen Kagome,” he said staring deep into her eyes. “Would you do me the favor of letting me become your royal consort and bearing my children?” Kagome looked confused for a moment then burst out laughing.
“Sorry loyal subject, but I cannot bear your children. I'm a queen; I have obligations to my crown. But as to the consort part, we'll discuss that later.” She winked. Miroku laughed and stood.
“I like her.” He took a look at the pictures in the locker. “And who is that vision of loveliness?” He was looking at a picture of Sango stomping some poor guy into the ground.
“Oh, that's my best friend Sango. The guy she's stomping tried to steal my purse.”
Miroku clutched his heart. “I think I'm in love. Do you think she would bear my children?” Kagome laughed.
“I think she'd stomp you for asking.”
“So she's feisty then? Just the way I like them. I've gotta head to class, see ya around Kagome.” Miroku slapped Inuyasha on the back before walking off.
“He seems nice.” Kagome said standing back to admire her locker before closing it.
“Yeah, lets go.” Inuyasha checked her schedule. “Hey we have three out of the five classes together. And the same lunch too. How lucky am I?”
“Very lucky,” Kagome assured him. “So do one of those three classes include the first one?”
“Why yes it does. Right this way your majesty.”
A young man dressed in all brown walked, well more like strutted, down the hallway as though he owned it. He had impossibly long black hair tied in a high ponytail and sky blue eyes. As he walked, not even caring that he was late for his first class, a friend fell into step beside him. “Hey Kouga,”
“What's up Ginta?”
“Weren't you supposed to guide the new student today? Kaede's super mad that you were late. I heard she's out for blood this time.”
“Who cares?” said Kouga dismissively. “I was late on purpose. I hate leading around new kids. They're all geeky and shy. I bet it was a freshman too.” Kouga said as they neared their classroom.
“Well Kaede let Inuyasha guide her.”
“Dog breath?” laughed Kouga. “Serves him right.” They opened the door and walked in. The teacher, standing in front of the class with a girl beside him, stopped in mid-sentence.
“Mr. Wolfe, your late. Again. Thank you for running that errand Ginta, take your seat.” Ginta nodded and headed to his seat. “Stay here Kouga I'll deal with you in a moment.” He turned back to the class. “As I was saying class, this is our new student Kagome Higurashi. Kagome would you like to tell the class about yourself?”
“Uh, sure.”
“Wait!” exclaimed Kouga. “You're the new student I was supposed to show around?”
“Guilty as charged,” replied Kagome. Kouga moved in quick as lightning taking her hand.
“So sorry, my beautiful Kagome, that I was late. There were some unavoidable circumstances, I'm sure you'll forgive me.” He smiled charmingly. Kagome nodded somewhat stunned.
“That's a load of bull Wolfe and you know it,” yelled Inuyasha from his seat. “Everyone knows you hate showing new students around, so whenever you have guide duty you show up late so it gets passed to someone else. Your loss this time, my gain.” He smirked.
“Shut it dog breath!” snarled Kouga before turning back to Kagome. “Anyway, I hope you'll give me the chance to make it up to you by showing you around the rest of the day,”
“Not a chance Wolfe,”
“Shut up mutt, no one's talking to you.”
“Kouga, Inuyasha, shut it!” snapped the teacher. “Kouga you gave up your guide privilege when you were late for school. Now sit down, and both of you shut up.” The teacher took a deep breath. “Please continue Kagome.”
“Okay…” Kagome thought a moment. “Well, my name's Kagome Higurashi I just moved here obviously. I know all of you are thinking I'm crazy moving in the middle of senior year, but it's a family thing. My favorite color is green. I have a younger sister and brother. And…um, that's it.”
“Okay, thank you Kagome and I hope you like Sansuko High. Take your seat.” Kagome took her seat next to Inuyasha and class begun.
