Chapter Three: School

True to her word Sango had everything arranged for Kagome to start school. Saturday Kagome flew home to gather her clothes and some other personal items. She also added Sango's name to her lease so Sango could pay the bills. After spending some time with all her friends and saying her goodbyes she drove her car back to Tokyo so she would have it to use. She arrived back in Tokyo Sunday afternoon. She had just enough time to get comfortable in her new room and set things to her liking before eating dinner (and a very awkward dinner it was,) then heading to bed. Kagome set her alarm clock to wake her up early in the morning. Earlier she'd asked Kikyou if her school had a uniform.
“We have one but we don't have to wear them. I hope you have some nice clothes, I'd rather you didn't embarrass me.” She said. Kagome rolled her eyes and went to her room. She woke up Saturday morning feeling slightly disoriented until she remembered the events of the last few days. She groaned.
“Why did I do this?” she asked herself. Then sighing she rolled out of bed and headed for the shower. Right after she gotten the water to just the right temperature Kikyou banged on the door.
“Hey, get outta there!”
“Sorry, first come first serve. Besides I have seniority.” Kagome said then she stepped into the shower where the sound of the water drowned out anything else Kikyou might have said. She took a good five minutes in the shower careful not to use up all the hot water. The last thing she needed was Kikyou fussing about that. She brushed her teeth and washed her face then left the bathroom wrapped in a towel with another towel wrapping her hair. Kikyou was waiting by the door wearing a red pajama set with white bunnies.
“What took you so long?” Kikyou asked disapprovingly.
“I like to take long showers. Why do you think I got up so early, Dipstick?” Kagome was tired of Kikyou's attitude and had decided she wasn't even going to try making friends. She'd much rather bond with Souta anyway. When she got to her room she went straight to the closet to decide what to wear. She settled on a pair of blue jeans and a read shirt that said, `I Am Your Queen. So Bow Down.' Then she sat down at her vanity table and brushed her hair until it was shinning. Then put on mascara, an eye shadow that was barely noticeable, but at the same time emphasized her eyes, a blush that made her skin look warmer and a shiny pale pink gloss. Looking in the mirror Kagome studied the results. With the exception of the gloss you could barely tell she was wearing make up. And that was just the look she was going for. She got up grabbed her stuff and headed downstairs. Kanaka and Souta were already down there eating breakfast. Kagome wasn't much of a breakfast person so she exchanged good mornings and just grabbed a piece of toast and a glass of orange juice.
After eating Kagome went to the stairs. “Get a move on, would ya, Kikyou? Some of us have places to be.” They'd agreed that Kikyou would ride to school with Kagome to save gas. Kikyou finally came downstairs wearing a black skirt that just bordered on too short with a white halter top and way to much make up. She had her hair in a ponytail on the top of her head with a few pieces hanging on either side of her face and gold bangle bracelets on her arms. “That's a little dressy for school, isn't it?” Kagome commented.
“Whatever, lets go.” Kikyou breezed past her and out of the house. Kagome followed after her and climbed into the car.
“Trying to impress some boy are you?” Kagome asked. Kikyou didn't answer. They drove to the school without talking, just listening to the radio. When they parked Kagome stopped Kikyou before she could get out of the car. “Look, I know you don't like me, and I'm really bordering on not liking you, but I've got to say this. Unless the guy you're trying to impress likes hookers and sluts your wasting your time because that's just what you look like. Let me do your make up.”
“What do you know about make up?” sneered Kikyou.
“Does it look like I'm wearing any?”
“No.”
“I am. Eye shadow, blush, the whole nine yards.”
“Really?” Kagome nodded. Kikyou chewed on her bottom lip for a moment. “Fine you can do my make up. But this doesn't mean I like you.”
“Whatever. Come on lets go find a bathroom.” They climbed out of Kagome's purple Mustang Convertible and headed into the school. They found a bathroom and Kikyou washed all the make up off her face. Then Kagome applied cosmetics to her flinching face. “You don't normally wear make up, do you?” Kagome asked. “I can tell with the way you keep flinching.”
“No, I don't.” Kikyou admitted reluctantly. It's just the guy I like never notices me, so…”
“Well I'm sure he'll notice you now. Look in the mirror.” Kikyou looked in the mirror and a stranger stared back at her. The girl in the mirror had larger richer brown eyes then Kikyou, not to mention a peaches and cream complexion, and pouty pink lips.
“Wow,” she breathed. “Thanks, but I still don't like you.”
“You keep saying that.” Kagome rolled her eyes. “Just so you know, the secret is to use make up that compliments your facial features, not overshadows them.” Kagome left the bathroom with Kikyou following.
“How do you know anyway?” Kikyou asked.
“I model part time back home. Maybe I'll do some here too.” Kagome told her. “Well I know your just itching to get away from me so show me to the office and you can go your merry little way.”

Inuyasha Takahashi was striding down the hall cursing his older brother for the prank he'd played on him. Sesshomaru had changed all the clocks in the house; setting them forward by several hours then waking Inuyasha and telling him he was late for school. He knew just as Inuyasha did that if Inuyasha was late one more time, he'd either be suspended or end up with a couple month's detention, either one would get his beloved red sports car taken away and he'd have to ride the smelly school bus. So finding himself at school early with nothing to do he decided to head to the office and bother the secretary/school nurse Kaede.
Inuyasha stopped in his tracks when a vision of loveliness stepped out of the girl's bathroom a little ways in front of him. Another girl followed after her. Some freshman that looked somewhat familiar. After racking his brains he realized the girl was the same freshman who was constantly trying to gain his attention. He, being a senior, normally wouldn't have noticed the freshman, although her outfit today was admittedly very eye-catching. Inuyasha may have even admired the girl, but now standing next to this goddess who was dressed so simply in jeans and a t-shirt, the girl just looked tawdry. Ah well, at least he could use this freshman to meet the goddess.
“Hey, freshman!” He called. The girl stopped and looked back. She smiled and said something to her companion who stopped also. Inuyasha quickly jogged up to them. “What's up freshman?” He asked pretending interest in the girl. She giggled. Giggled. Inuyasha couldn't stand girls who made such an inane sound. He just barely kept himself from shuddering.
“Hi Inuyasha,” The girl smiled. “No need to be formal,” she giggled again. “Call me Kikyou.”
“Kikyou, right.” Inuyasha turned to the goddess. “Your majesty,” He said bowing elegantly.
Kagome smiled. “Thank you loyal subject,” She curtsied spreading an imaginary skirt. “No need to be so formal, seeing as my sister just informed me your high school royalty. Prince of the school I believe she said. Queens and princes should be friendly, you can call me Kagome.”
“Why thank you, Kagome. I'm Inuyasha, Prince Inuyasha apparently.” He gave a charming smile. “I think we should be very friendly, we royals have to stick together.”
“I agree, as long as you remember I outrank you.”
“Of course. So where are you two lovely ladies headed.”
“The office,” Kikyou answered. “Kagome's just starting here.”
“I was just headed that way. It'd be an honor to escort the two most beautiful ladies in the school to their destination.” To his disdain Kikyou immediately latched onto one of his arms. He sighed inwardly then offered his other arm to Kagome. She gracefully placed a hand on his arm and they started down the hallway. “So Kagome you're just starting here? Were you going to a boarding school or something?
“Actually I was adopted and my mother just died not to long ago. It was then I found out how to get in touch with Kanaka, my birth mother, so here I am. She asked me to spend the rest of my senior year here so we could get to know each other.”
“Oh, I'm sorry about your mother.” Inuyasha used the arm Kikyou was latched onto to pat Kagome's hand sympathetically. “I can't say I know exactly what your going through, but I lost my mother when I was younger so I have an idea of how you feel.”
“Thank you,” Kagome smiled up at him and Inuyasha smiled back. Kikyou cleared her throat loudly.
“We just passed the office.”
“Hmm,” Inuyasha looked up. “I didn't even notice. They turned and backtracked to the office then walked inside. Inuyasha went up to the counter and banged on it. “Look alive, old lady,” he said to the woman behind the desk. “You've got a new student here.” The woman turned from whatever she'd been doing at the filing cabinets.
“Are you Kagome Higurashi?” She asked. Kagome nodded. “Good. Thank you for bringing her here young lady. Run along to class now.” Kikyou was thoroughly dismissed and after casting a longing look at Inuyasha she left the office. “You, Inuyasha, can go too. You're here for no other reason then to bother me.”
“Kaede, you wound me. Surely you know I'm in love with you?” Inuyasha said.
“Go away Inuyasha. Kagome, you may end up being a little late to class. Your guide Kouga Wolfe is not yet here.”
Kouga's her school guide? That mangy wolf isn't good enough to tie Kagome's shoes. Let me be her guide.” Inuyasha said.
“I will not aid you in your feud with Kouga, Inuyasha.”
“Come on Kaede,” wheedled Inuyasha. “If she waits for Kouga she'll be late. You know how teachers are when the new students are late their first day.”
Kaede sighed knowing Inuyasha was right. “Fine. Here is Kagome's schedule she probably has a lot of your classes. Take her to her locker first.” Kaede handed Inuyasha some papers then turned away.
“C'mon Kagome.” Inuyasha grabbed her hand and led her from the office.
