Chapter 2: When You‘re Gone

“I made the wrong choice.” he was standing in the doorway looking at the others.

Kaede, Sango, Miroku, Shippo and Kirara all looked at him as if to say ‘well, duh’. But nobody would dare say it in front of him if they wanted to see tomorrow.

“Tell us something we don’t know…” well, there’s Shippo’s death wish.

Inuyasha gave him an ‘evil look’ that gave a new meaning to ‘if looks could kill’. Sesshomaru would be proud.

Suddenly Kaede saw blood streaming down his neck. “Inuyasha…what happened?” she pointed towards the blood on his neck. Now the others noticed the blood, although they knew it wasn’t serious.

“Oh, this?” he didn’t know what to say. He was still trying to figure out why he never realized Kikyo never really loved him.

“Yeah Inuyasha, it’s not like you to be so clumsy.” Sango said. Being an expert on of weapons, she knew it was a small blade that did it. So the wheels started to turn and then she realized who’s blade it was. “Oh, Inuyasha…”

Inuyasha was getting a little frustrated with his friends jumping to the wrong conclusions all the time. “I didn’t do this! I’m not turning into someone that would just go and kill them self.”

“We know,” Kaede said “My sister did that, did she not?”

“Yeah…I can’t believe I could be so stupid!” He balled his hands into fists so Shippo ran for his life to Sango hoping that Inuyasha wouldn’t take his anger out on him.

Miroku wanted to know what made Inuyasha finally call himself stupid after his actions. “Tell us what happened, my friend…”

So Inuyasha began with his farewell to Kagome and Sango couldn’t help but to do what every girl does when given good news, she shrieked when Inuyasha told everybody that he and Kagome kissed. It was so high pitched that Inuyasha had to pin his ears to his head and cover his highly sensitive ears.

Sango forgot all about his hearing and apologized. “I’m so sorry Inuyasha, I didn’t mean to hurt you. Please continue…”

So Inuyasha continued on his sad story. He told them that he made his wish for Kikyo to be alive once again and it worked. Kikyo floated to the sky and then the jewel vanished telling everyone that it had been purified. And when she floated back down to the earth and the glow disappeared he ran and kissed her as if to tell her he would never let go of her. But their kiss got pushed away, as with a flick of Kikyo’s wrist she cut his neck. Giving him the clue to back off and never touch me.

“I can’t believe I was such an idiot!” Inuyasha was furious with himself. He just couldn’t come to the fact the Kikyo never loved him. Inuyasha’s love for Kikyo was just an illusion of the heart while his love for Kagome was pure and natural. Well, as far as their love for one another were natural, nobody would ever believe that a priestess of Kagome’s spiritual power and a half-demon could fall in love. But she would never have changed him like Kikyo would of.

“Settle down Inuyasha.” Miroku was really worried about his friend he’d never seen him act this mad at something before. But it really scared him that Inuyasha was actually calling himself stupid and blaming his own actions.

Inuyasha just ignored Miroku. He was focusing on one thing and one thing only, or in his mind a person. “Kaede, tell me there must be some way to get Kagome to come back through the well. I mean…it really couldn’t have-”

I always needed time on my own
“I’m sorry Inuyasha, the well is closed, and Kagome can never come through it again.”
I never thought I’d, need you there when I cried

Everyone could’ve swore they saw a single tear stream down his cheek, but were to slow to ask. Inuyasha flew to the door and ran.

“Where do you think he’ll go?” Sango asked with curiosity.

“The one place where him and her are always connected to.” Miroku said as he stoked the fire.

~~~~~~OoO~~~~~~
Inuyasha ran to the only place he found safe and solemn. Once at his destination he jumped to his favorite branch and cried.
And the days feel like years when I’m alone
And the bed where you lie is made up on your side
Then Inuyasha did something that he would never do around anybody, he howled. Inuyasha howled to the sky letting everyone know his pain.
When you walk away I count the step that you take
Do you see how much I need you right now
He rarely let out his dog instincts at his command but this was one that he just had to let go so he shouted his feelings to the gods.
~~~~~~OoO~~~~~~

Kagome was sitting in her room studying that is until she heard something come from outside. It sounded like a dog that was rite outside her window. Then, she heard it again and it came from the Sacred Tree.

She ran to the tree as fast as she could to see what the heck it was. She looked everywhere and she heard it again, this time it came from a branch, Inuyasha’s branch. What was going on? Where were these sounds coming from. But once she realized that they were dog howls then she only came to one conclusion.

Inuyasha? What has him howling like a dog? She knew how much he hated showing his dog demon heritage.

When you’re gone the pieces of my heart are missing you
When you’re gone the face I came to know is missing too
When you’re gone the words I need to hear
It sounds like he’s crying…but what is he crying for?
To always get me through the day
And make it ok
I miss you

Kagome jumped over the little picket fence to the tree. Remembering what Inuyasha told her whenever she thought of him. She went to the bare spot where Inuyasha was sealed to. He was right, it did last this long. So she did the only thing that she could think of try to console him, she reached up with her hands and rubbed the bark.

I've never felt this way beforeEverything that I doReminds me of you
Inuyasha was about to let out another wave of pain until he felt something comforting, something that made him feel whole again.

The only time I felt like this was when…it cant’ be! He jumped from the branch to the ground in one leap without hitting other braches.

“Kagome! Kagome?! Kagome?” He looked all around and he tried to see if he could smell her anywhere. It was no use she was nowhere to be seen. What was going on? Why did it seem like she was right next to him but in fact nobody was around. He looked back up to the tree.

“Why the hell do you keep torturing me? You took her away from me…you took Kagome away from me!”

~~~~~~OoO~~~~~~
And the clothes you leftThey lie on the floorAnd they smell just like youI love the things that you do
Kagome was so deep in thought that she didn’t hear people coming up from behind her.
“Hey Kagome.” all three girls said in unison.
Kagome jumped when all three girls spoke, so she did what she thought was safe and swung her arms around the bare spot on the tree for protection. Since Inuyasha was her protector and she felt safe around him she jumped to the only thing she had left of him and wanted his protection. “Inuyasha, save me…”
“Uh…Kagome?” Eri had never seen her friend this upset. Then she figured that it must have something to do with that boyfriend of hers.
The girls had already met Inuyasha just didn’t know that much about him, like the fact that he’s a half-demon. They also knew that he was the guy that Kagome always talked about.
“Kagome what happened?” Yuka asked worried that her friend was hallucinating that the tree was Inuyasha.
“Yeah and why are you calling that tree Inuyasha?” Ayumi asked before adding “Where is Inuyasha? You always told us that he hangs around your house all the time so where is he?”
By this time Kagome had jumped from the tree to the girls but still staying close to the tree just incase he started to howl again. “Um…he’s gone.”
“Oh, so when will he be back? We’d like to get to know him better.” Yuka asked but wondering why Kagome looked so sad while saying it.
It pained her to say her next line so while saying it she just stared at the tree. “He’s never coming back to me.”
All three girls looked to the tree wondering what on earth it was about this tree and Kagome and why she always had this sad face whenever she looked at it.
“Kagome, earlier…why did you call it Inuyasha?”
“Because this is where I first met him and awoke him.” she paused for a brief moment to rub the bare bark before she continued, “This is where I found him, he looked so peaceful when I found him.”
“Oh my gosh!” Eri said in surprise, “I never noticed that this spot has no bark but what was sealed here?” She pointed to the spot that had a hole in it from Kikyo’s arrow. Obviously showing that something was sealed here along time ago.
“It was probably a demon.” Yuka said to Eri. Eri had been a little terrified to learn that there were mystical creatures that used to roam these very lands along time ago.
“Actually…” Kagome said interrupting Yuka and Eri’s negotiation on demons. “He was a half-demon. And a strong one he was.”
The girls all looked at Kagome with confusion written on their faces. So Ayumi spoke up to get some answers. “What do you mean? How do you know it was a half-demon?”
Eri had a question of her own, “How do you know it was a boy?”
Uh-oh, Kagome had let out too much information. They were starting to ask questions that shouldn’t be asked. Kagome always wanted to tell them but the more she thought about it would they really believe her? Would they believe that she is the reincarnation of a priestess 500 years ago in the past or that she met a half-demon (and that half-demon was Inuyasha) and fell in love with him. Or that she battles demon on a regular basis. Not that she thought about it, there was just too much that would make them just believe that their friend had gone nuts.
“Um…Inuyasha told me when he was here.” there now that wasn’t a complete lie. But it got them to stop asking questions about the tree and the half-demon sealed to it.
“Hey do you guys mind if I do something?” Kagome asked, she really wanted to practice and get her mind off of Inuyasha.
“Yeah sure, what is it?” Eri asked wondering what got her in a better mood.
“Wait right here, I need to go get something from my room.” Kagome said as she started towards the house.
The girls all looked at each other and then went back to staring at the tree.
Kagome came back after about ten minutes holding her favorite weapon in her hands. “You don’t mind if I practice do you?”
“No, not really. But do you even know how to shoot one of those?” Eri asked now she was just puzzled about her friend.
“Of course I do! Just watch me.”
