Chapter 3: Leading A Double Life

Inuyasha fell to his knees while still staring at the Sacred Tree. What the hell did he do to deserve this. The time when his brother pierced through his stomach was nothing compared to the pain he was feeling in his heart. Why? Why were they punishing him like this? He already felt bad enough that he would never be able to see Kagome again but did they have to rub it in his face?

His eyes started to burn and he knew what was to come. So he just let them fall. He didn’t care who saw him cry. He didn’t even care if his brother saw him cry. He felt pain that he never wanted to feel again. The first time he felt this pain was when his mother had died and he knew that he was going to be all alone with nobody to care for him.

Inuyasha was so lost in his thoughts that he didn’t feel the presence of a very powerful aura approach him.

“Inuyasha…I never knew you could show you’re feeling like a full dog demon could.”

“Kagome, are you sure you know how to shoot one of those?” Eri was a little scared. What if she hit one of them on accident.

“Yes. For the last time I know how to shoot these. I do it all the time, it’s no big deal. Just watch.” Kagome said as she took aim for the target and fired.

It was a good thing that it wasn’t dark outside otherwise the three girls would have been able to see the pink glow around the arrow. It wasn’t that she did it on purpose, it’s just that she was so used to putting her purifying energy in the arrow that she did it unconsciously. Luckily it wasn’t enough to be able to see.

“WOW!” all girls said in unison.

“Got it!” Kagome said as she lowered her bow.

Kagome hit right in the middle of the target. All three girls jaws dropped. She did know how to shoot a bow and arrow. If they made a bet they would’ve easily lost.

“Well, I guess you really do know how to shoot one of those after all.” Yuka said.

“Yeah! You’re really good…where did you learn how to shoot?” Eri was impressed at how skilled her friend was.

“Well…” Kagome started but again she realized they were asking where she learned how to shoot.

Oh…about 500 years in the past…Kagome thought but she wouldn’t say it to her friends. So instead decided to say who taught her.

“Inuyasha. Inuyasha taught me archery.” again, it wasn’t a lie. Inuyasha did tell her that Kikyo was a master archer. And Kagome being her reincarnation should be one too.

“Oh my gosh! Look at the arrow!” Ayumi shouted.

The girls quickly turned around to see the arrow suddenly began to glow a bright pink light around the arrow and then the target disappeared. Uh-oh, it looks like she put a little too much power in that punch. Kagome never expected that one of her arrows would purify something as plain as a simple target. She was just hoping that her friends didn’t have a whole lot of questions regarding what happened to the target or the arrow.

“Kagome, that’s the third one you’ve purified since you’ve been here. Are you ever gonna get control of those pow-” Grandpa had come around the corner after seeing another one of the targets get purified from her arrows. He was going to tell her to ease up on the powers around here. What he didn’t expect was that her friends were here while she was doing some archery. Did he let out too much information?

“Kagome, what does he mean?” Yuka was wondering what the heck was going on and why her grandpa looked like he just put his foot in his mouth when he saw them.

“Ummm…” What was she gonna say? This was it, they were gonna find out.

~~~~~~OoO~~~~~~
“What’s the matter with you Inuyasha? It’s not like you to show your demon half through howling.” the demon said as he came out from the darkness of the forest. “So that girl, Kagome, is gone.”
“You mean you heard me? You could understand me?” Inuyasha questioned. He was baffled. He didn’t realized that he was actually saying something as he howled, he just let his feelings out through the only way that felt relieving.
“Yes, loud and clear. And what do you mean ’I could understand you’? Inu is my native language after all. It’s true that you are a half-dog demon but that does not mean that you can not talk in Inu.”
“I guess but, all I was doing was letting out my emotions, I didn’t realize I was actually saying something.” he said more to himself than his brother. If it wasn’t for Sesshomaru’s keen sense of hearing he wouldn’t of been able to pick up what his brother was saying. “What are you doing here anyways?”
~Sesshomaru’s Flashback~
“Lord Sesshomaru, where is it that we are going tomorrow?” Rin asked as she was poking a stick into the fire.
“What do you mean where? We are going to Lord Sesshomaru’s castle.” Jaken said as he glared at the little girl. He couldn’t believe that they were bringing this human girl back to the castle with them.
All three of them were brought out of their thoughts to the sound of a loud howl.
Rin ran to Jaken, “ A wolf! A wolf!” Rin was terrified of wolves. Well could you blame her she was hunted down by Koga’s wolves after all.
“Rin, stop that.” Rin stopped immediately at her lord’s command. “It is not a wolf. It is a dog demon.”
“Another dog demon, like you, Lord Sesshomaru?” Rin said in a trembling voice. Not feeling safe with Jaken she went to Sesshomaru’s leg for more protection.
Sesshomaru just looked down to her. “It’s alright he’s not a full demon.”
“A half-demon? Is it your brother, Inuyasha?” Rin asked happy that the howling wasn’t coming from anything too dangerous. She was terrified that it was more wolves.
“Yes it is.” Sesshomaru said.
“What is that ungrateful half-breed doing? I thought he hated being a half-demon and would never show his true demon heritage?” Jaken said with a disgusted tone in his voice. He hated that a half-demon tainted his lord’s blood line with human blood.
Inuyasha’s howl echoed once again and the three beings listed.
“I wonder what has him howling like that.” Jaken said now he was getting curious.
“It appears that that young priestess, Kagome, has left.” Sesshomaru said.
“Did he say why she has left M’Lord?” Rin said as she turned around to find Sesshomaru gone.
Once he heard the last howl he wanted to see what has made his little brother so upset to being howling like a dog. So she has left you. Are you just now figuring out that you two were meant to be.
Every time Sesshomaru met up with his brother and the priestess he always smelt the love for one another coming from them. Heck you didn’t even have to have a dog’s nose to tell that she was madly in love with him. But Inuyasha he wasn’t to sure.
~End Sesshomaru’s Flashback~
“So you could understand everything that I was feeling?” Inuyasha asked his brother.
“Yes, it just surprises me that you did not know that you were actually speaking in Inu.” Sesshomaru said as he looked at his brother with a confused look crossing his features. “It also surprises me that you did not realize the love that you and that young priestess had for one another. Every time I came close to you two I could feel and smell the love emanating off of both of you.”
“Yeah, it’s true that I love Kagome but it’s too late now. She went back home to her time.” He said to Sesshomaru but sometime during the conversation he had to look away so that his brother wouldn’t see the tears building up in his eyes.
“T-time?” for once in his life, Inuyasha had his brother completely baffled.
“Yeah, time. Come with me.” Inuyasha said as he turned and headed down the walked path from the Sacred Tree to the hidden well.
Sesshomaru, obviously hooked on what his brother said and where he was going, followed close behind, wanting to figure out exactly what his brother meant by ’Time’. If there was anything on this earth that would absolutely make the Great Demon of the Western Lands nuts, was trying to figure that strange, young, priestess out.
~~~~~~OoO~~~~~~

“She means that it’s a trick.” Grandpa said, being clever with making up stories for Kagome.

“A ’trick’?” all three girls asked the old man.

“Yes, a trick. You see when we all went to China last week we found these really fascinating targets for archery. They glow pink when hit square in the middle and then collapse.” Grandpa said while rubbing his chin.

“Wow, hey Kagome the next time you go to China can you get me some of those?” Yuka piped up obviously believing the old man’s story.

“Yeah, sure.” luckily her friends would totally forget about the targets.

“Uh-oh! Kagome sorry but we have to get going. It’s getting dark and we have to get home to finish our homework.” Ayumi said. She really didn’t want to be caught up and forget to do her homework.

“Oh, okay.” Kagome said as she started walking with her friends.

“Well, thanks for showing us your archery and we hope to see you tomorrow in school since you look like your getting better from that concussion.” Eri said while waving bye to her friend while going down the stairs.

“Um, yeah, see you guys tomorrow.” Kagome said while waving back to her friends.

I guess one good thing came out of all this…grandpa doesn’t have to make up anymore illnesses for me. She started to walk back to the house to finish up on her studying for tomorrow. But as she passed the Sacred Tree she couldn’t help but glance at it. Who am I kidding? Nothing good came out of this.

She finally got up to her room and did the rest of her studies. Once she got done she went to her bed and set the alarm clock and went to bed.

~~~~~~OoO~~~~~~
It was getting dark in the feudal era but that didn’t stop the two dog-demon blooded beings from continuing their conversation.
“We’re here.” Inuyasha said as he walked up to the well.
“And where is here, exactly?” Sesshomaru asked his brother who was now sitting on the edge of the well.
“This is the Bone Eater’s well. I don’t know how to explain this but, on the other side of this well is Kagome’s time. A time 500 years in the future. But it is closed up now and neither I nor Kagome can get through to each other.” that last sentence he had to turn away at the sudden burn in his eyes.
Once Inuyasha had good control of his tears he looked at Sesshomaru. If this wasn’t a serious thing Inuyasha would’ve laughed. Sesshomaru had both of his eyebrows raised and was blinking like he had a bug in his eyes. Once Sesshomaru gained back his vocabulary he was finally able to talk.
“So this old well acted as a time portal from our time to hers, 500 years in the future? I’ve never heard of such a thing. I’m not saying that I don’t believe you but it’s unreal.” Sesshomaru said in fascination.
“I know. I don’t know how Kagome got through in the first place or why only me and her were the only ones who could get through.” Inuyasha said while staring into the darkness of the well.
“And so now it’s sealed up? But how on earth did it suddenly seal up?”
Inuyasha sensing that his brother was gonna get a headache if he didn’t explain it further. So Inuyasha started when he first met Kagome and their journeys that he and his friends had.
~~~~~~OoO~~~~~~

Kagome awoke to the sound of her alarm clock ringing next to her head. So she did what every teenager does when they have to go to school, she hit the snooze button. She turned onto her back and just stared blankly up at her ceiling. She couldn’t remember when she finally found sleep. It was the first night that she wasn’t sleeping close to Inuyasha in along time, and she couldn’t get to sleep knowing that he’s not there to watch over her.

She laid in bed for about 5 mins before her mom came into the room telling her that her breakfast was ready.

“I’ll be down in a minute mom.” Kagome said as she got out of bed and started making it.

Kagome got dressed in her school uniform and went down to eat breakfast. The family ate in silence. This was the first day of school in along time for Kagome. Everybody could’ve swore that Grandpa was sad because he wasn’t able to make up anymore illnesses for Kagome’s absences. But the whole family couldn’t help but feel sorry for Kagome. They all knew how much Kagome loved jumping down that well and to fight side by side with Inuyasha and her friends. But, they all knew what or who she was missing the most, Inuyasha.
