Chap.3- The Truth of When She Was Twelve…

Yeah, yeah I know too much Coyote Ugly… but it's my favorite movie!!

It was daylight when Kagome got home. "Where have you been Kagome, I was worried…" A sleepy eyed brother said upon her opening the door. "Sorry Souta. Sango found me a job." "Really where?" "A bar…" she was cut off. "You told me you'd never go back to that life."

"Souta… not everything works out how we want it to. Plus, at least I get to dance." "For men… it makes no difference unless you're on a stage in front of recruits." He argued. "I'm not quitting just because your acting as father around here… it makes money." She took out the hundred and ninety Inu had given her.

"Where'd you get that?" "That is just for making drinks and cleaning up. What do you think now?" she said watching him pick up the money and count it. "What ever…" "I'm tired… I'm going to bed."

She saw him smile then pocket some of the money for his school lunch, he would hide the rest no doubt. Closing her door she caught a glimpse of something on her mirror. Kagome closed the curtains then plopped into her bed. Finally her eyes rested on the mirror. Red lipstick clung on it. K, I can't do this. Call me if you get to it. I love you, D.

"shit." She whispered and turned away. Closing her eyes, a dream came to her. Vivid remembrance…

She sat on the porch in the rain, watching for the dark blue car to roll up. It didn't come. She went inside soaked. "When are they going to get here?" Souta asked. He was hungry she knew. "They'll be here in a few minutes." She sat on the couch and turned on the television. ` A car was pushed off the I60 bridge today so far we know there were two people in the car, the names can not be released yet due to family shock. The culprit that pushed tem from behind has not been identified.' "Stupid police." She turned off the T.V. the phone rang. "It's probably Dad… I'll get it." She ran for the phone. "Hello?" "Is this the Higarashi residence?" "Yes is everything alright?" she said slowly, translating the man's voice as bad news. "Are you Kagome?" "Yes." "This is the police. We are calling on behalf of your parents. They were run off the road…" that was all she heard before she slid down the hall wall and started to cry. Souta picked up the phone. "Hello…oh, gods. She's crying, yeah I'll call my grandfather. Thank you sir." He crumpled into a heap beside her and pulled her close. "Kagome, I'll keep you safe I promise."

She awoke wide awake. Memories pushing away sleep. It was noon; she got dressed and headed out the door. Kagome had to walk, she had to get the image of the mangled car out of her mind, she had to get the thought they were still alive gone, it had all been lies, all of it. And she knew, somehow she'd pull through, she wouldn't have to lie any more to her self or to any one else when they asked where her parents were. The answer was simple: in heaven, among angels.

Some place she would never go. She pushed the door to Ambrosia open. "Look it's my old beauty." "Hello Naraku. Can I get a shot of Vodka?" "Got money?" "Yep…" she pulled out a buck and slammed it down. "But you never had money." "I got a job. Surprise." She said sitting at the bar near the pool tables.

"Where?" "None of your business. That vodka?" "Yeah, yeah, yeah, shut up already." He set a glass down and poured the clear liquid in it. "Thanks." Naraku snatched the dollar off the counter viciously. "Nice ass." A voice from behind her said smoothly.

"I knew there was a reason I left this place. It was because of all the ass holes." She drank her shot in one gulp. "I'll see you later, N." "Where can I find you?" "I'm a pirate, you want to find me figure it out."

She walked out to the curb. Smiling she headed home for a few hours.

The housework was done before she left for the night. Her grandfather was snoring on the couch. "Poor man, burdened with a life you weren't supposed to have." She whispered and shut the door behind her. Souta was asleep in his room; she smiled at the thought of his eyes closed, him breathing quietly, a soft smile as he dreamt of their parents before the crash.

She was at the bar before she knew it and the second long night began…
