InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Bartenders and Brunettes ❯ The Break Up... ( Chapter 6 )
Chap.6- The Break Up…
Kagome got home when she said she would. Souta was waiting with the candles, and matches. "Let's go. Grandpa is still at work." He said with a slightly shaky voice.
"Alright, you have everything?" Kagome asked looking suspiciously at his small bundle.
"yes." He answered catching her by her arm and willing her out the door again. She followed obediently, they knew the path well. They didn't speak. Walking the darkened street they stopped at the bridge that crossed the river, connecting the south part of the city to the north. Souta took out four pictures: one of Kagome, one of himself, one of their grandfather, and then one of them all together.
Slowly he lit a match. "One more year, for Kagome, me and grandfather. One more time, I cry." He passed her picture to her as he let his go over the rail burning to ash.
"One more year, for Souta, me and grandfather. One more time, I remember." She did the same, passing him their grandfathers picture again.
"One more year for grandfather. One more time, he is burdened." Souta had tears running down his cheeks. "One more year for all of us. One more year of pain, one more year of remembrance, one more year of tears, one more year we live with out you." He tossed the last picture to the river.
"There's no need for the candles this year. I don't feel like staying here, not for long at least." Kagome said turning to her brother, who had stopped his tears.
"You're right. They don't need them. The sky is clear, they can find their way home if they want to." He looked to the sky.
They started to take the short walk home. Kagome held firm and didn't cry, though she knew she would later when she was alone in her room where he couldn't hear her. The next day would be hard but she would not cry, she had not cried in front of anybody in six years and it would not happen now. She fell into bed, after changing and a bath.
Thinking of Inu helped her fall asleep though she didn't know why, maybe it was the ears, or the voice. She had not talked to him much but when she did she felt free, like he was her best friend and nothing could stop her from saying her feeling around him, or from what she wanted to do.

My sister would cry later, I stood by her door and listened to her beat herself up over my parent's death, my sickness, and the burden that Grandfather has on his shoulders. Her facade held as we walked home. I didn't know what to say to her so I draped my arm over her shoulders, and pulled her close in a hug.
"I meant what I said so long ago. I will keep you safe, that's why I have to tell you. Kikyou called, she said if you laid a hand on her boyfriend she'd kill you, and me. I told her she already killed me. She asked me who I was. I hung up on her."
~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome hugged him tighter. "She will ask and I will tell her I never heard a word."
Souta smiled. Kagome looked straight ahead until they got home. She kept eye contact with the floor, slowly walking to her room, taking a bath, and then going to bed. The tears invaded her eyes as she shut the door. Souta went to his room and put his ear to the thin wall. Kagome fell onto her bed, burying her head into her pillow. Her body shook as the tears made the pillow wet and made her hair stick to her face as she rolled over.
She sucked up the tears. "I have to sleep. I will sleep."
Souta laid down closing his eyes, praying, "Please Gods of mine that haven't betrayed me, help her, she needs comfort that I can't give her. She needs love from another."
Kagome slept until her alarm went off, at seven.
"Souta!! You have an hour!!" she screamed. She pulled herself from her bed and padded across the floor throwing open her closet door. She dressed in a crimson shirt and black pants with red designs flaring up to her thighs. A black duster completed the outfit and she walked to her brother's door. She knocked then entered. "Come on Souta."
Grabbing the blanket at the end of the bed, she pulled it off of him in one quick pull. He sat up instantly. "Damn you woman!"
She smiled. "School… forty five minutes… fifteen minute walk get the picture?"
"Yeah…" he said shivering.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Bye, little bro. I'll leave around seven so try to be home quick, because I'm fixing dinner tonight."
"okay." He walked out the door with his back pack over his shoulder full of books.
Her grandfather walked into the living room. "So how'd last night go?"
"He was fine, it was me that cried, in my room later. He only cried at the bridge." She whispered softly.
Her grandfather smiled. " They would have loved to see you now." He walked out the door leaving her to her own thoughts.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Okay so how were you last night babe?" Sango asked when Kagome got to the bar.
"I was fine, we did the usual ceremony and then went home." Kagome shrugged as if it was nothing. "I fixed them dinner tonight and everything was fine when n I left so I suspect it'll be okay for awhile."
"Good. You mixing again?"
"I think I will. But maybe one dance couldn't hurt." Kagome said smiling. Sango smiled.
Sango got on the bar first. She tried to give Kagome a hand.
"No, remember this…" Kagome said as she jumped up with no hands and landed on her side, propping her head up with her hand.
"Show off." Sango growled. Inu watched closely as if testing her nerves. Kagome stood smiling brightly.
"You know I am." Kagome stepped forward closing the foot gap between them and leaning onto Sango who almost fell off balance. Kagome grabbed her around the waist holding her up.
The smiles were flawless as they danced. When the song stopped Kagome jumped down, right into Miroku's arms. She rolled her eyes. "Go away."
"Aww… so sincere."
She moved away from him and sat at the bar thinking about nothing at all. She laid her head in her crossed arms, and looked down the bar.
"You okay?" Inu asked waking her from her trance.
"Yeah…" she answered softly. He nodded and then walked away.
She zoned out again and heard no one but Inu and Miroku.
"So what happened last night? Kikyou called me and she was crying so hard she couldn't tell me anything." The dark haired man looked almost distressed.
"Umm… that. Yeah she pissed me off and when I got angry, I told her I wanted to break up. She said something like `But you're my life' and I replied with `Well you better get a new one because I'm leaving you wench'. After that I walked out." He replied lazily.
"Whoa… so who you going to date now?" Miroku asked.
"I think she's a little out of my league but she's sweet and gave me this." He fingered something around his neck.
"What's her name?"
"Kagome…"
