Chapter 12- Things Go South
"Kagome, I have to fire you." Sesshoumaru said softly. "I'm sorry. You showed up late to work- again."
"But if you fire me, I can't pay Souta's hospital bills." I looked at him in disbelief. My eyes were starting to water, and my throat was closing up.
His eyes stared back almost hard and glazed. "Kagome if I could help I would." His voice was soft again as he laid a hand on my shoulder softly.
I closed my eyes feeling the tears coming but now wanting him to see them. I turned away, pulling my shoulder from under his grasp. My feet carried me out to the main floor, where I finally looked up above the crowd. Sango was watching me from the bar - Inu beside her, waiting for news.
Pushing through the bodies of people, I moved away from them and to the wooden door, into the cold night wind. I didn't belong there any more. I dropped my life, and would start anew. I shivered forgetting my jacket inside. Wind whipped through my shirt and pants sending a chill to my bones and reminding me of being lost. Lost in front of `The Lost Island'… What a joke…

I made my way to the one place I could call home. Naraku greeted me at the door. "Kagome what's wrong? You're shivering." His eyes held concern. Kagura moved in too.
I kept my eyes at my toes. "Did Inuyasha hurt you? I knew he was bad news." Kagura whispered. I shook my head.
"Can I talk to you two in private?" I asked softly, a tremor running through my voice. They both nodded.
"Rin take over would you?" Naraku said to a girl I hadn't seen around before. Her dark hair framed her face rather nicely, but it made her look as if she wasn't more than seventeen or eighteen. She smiled, nodding to him.
"What is it Kagome?" He asked as soon as we were in his office. It was stuffy but warm, instantly my hand defrosted and my nose started hurting.
"Souta went into the hospital a few weeks ago, with complications of HIV. You know the story. Sesshoumaru, my boss and Inu's brother, fired me. That's the only way we've been able to pay the hospital bills is with the money I bring in from the bar. If that's gone…" My voice trailed off cracking a bit here and there. My throat began to hurt dully, making me more agitated than I already was.
"Work here." Kagura said quickly. She leaned again the desk behind her, her arms supporting her.
"Don't even think twice about asking for a job Kagome. You know better." Naraku agreed.
"But what I get here won't be enough. They pay twenty dollars an hour- plus any tip you get." I said softly.
Kagura smiled. "I can go without… I moved in with Naraku anyway. So I don't have the rent to pay." She used her hand to motion, something she did when she got excited about something. I almost made me laugh, watching her now.
"Kagome take your job back. If they hire you back fine. If they don't we'll take care of you." Naraku added. His eyes were scanning Kagura's body, something I thought strange because he had never done that before.
I smiled tears falling carelessly down my cheeks. "Thank you. Thank you both." I hugged Kagura close, and planted a kiss on Naraku's cheek.
"Kagome, don't be late for work." Naraku said laughing slightly.
"Shut up." Kagura elbowed him.
"Stop it you two. You act like you're married." I said turning away. Kagura's eyes went wide.
Naraku looked at me strangely. "Sango didn't tell you?" His voice told me it was of some importance that I listen now and ask questions. His brow furrowed as he looked over at Kagura.
"Didn't tell me what?" I turned back seeing that they were both plainly baffled at why Sango didn`t tell me this little tid bit.
"We are married, Kagome."
