I blinked. Once, twice, three times. “Oh my god.”

“Yeah.” Kagura said smiling. Naraku smiled too, then looked away.

“So you start tomorrow. Go get some sleep Kagome.” He said, leaning over to Kagura and kissing her cheek.

“Alright. Bye lovers.” I giggled. Thank god I had gotten a job!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Sinking into bed was the best thing I had done all day. I laid beside Souta, who's eyes were closed. I moved my hand over his chest praying that it was still moving. It was. He had been through so much. How could he stand it?

Someone opened the door behind me. I didn't have to turn to know it was Inu. I just felt that it was. “He's so small, a child still… How could anyone do this to a child?”

“She was careless of what it would do to him.” His hand rubbed my arm. “He'll get better. It all takes time. The doctor's say he's doing a bit better.”

I turned to him, slowly to make sure I didn't bother Souta. “He'll never be better.” I whispered. My voice didn't sound like my own, it was off somehow. Tears clouded my vision for a few seconds before I blinked them away, some still fell though, caught by Inu's hand.

His lips brushed my eye lids, my nose. “He will get better. You must believe somewhere in your heart that he will.”

“And if he gets better then what? We wait until the next attack?”

“Kagome…” His voice was sympathetic. A few seconds passed before he said anything. “Yes you wait. And you conquer.”

I sat up, getting off the bed, and walking out of the room. I needed to breathe. I needed to run. Inu was following me. I needed space. The first stairs I saw I took them, heading up, up to the roof, up to… to what? The metal door slammed back as I flew through it. I heard Inu's steps behind me, slow and steady, far away. My body hit the railing, as an instant thought ran through my head. I could throw myself from the roof and no one would be able to stop me.

But if Souta did pull through he would need me.

I smiled, and stepped back. He would make it through. I rubbed my hands up and down my forearms. I didn't realize how chilly it was when I walked in. Maybe it wasn't as cold as it was now. Arms wrapped around me, pulling me to a hard, warm chest. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” I whispered.

“I'm sorry about your job. Sesshoumaru and I bickered over it after you left. I quit.” Inu nuzzled his nose into my hair.

“Why?”

“Because it won't be any fun with out you there. Sango quit too. She got a job at Naraku's place, assuming you went back there. Meaning also, that Sesshoumaru now has no one to run his bar.” Inu smiled against my skin.

I smiled again. “Thank you. But where will you work? Live?”

He shrugged. “Does it matter?”

“Yes, I don't want you homeless.” My voice held the love I had for him out for him to grab.

“I've been that way before. Before me and my brother were on good terms I was in the streets. Alone. I have you now. It's okay if I don't have a home. I don't need one.”

“Live with me.” I said, turning to him, and burying my face in his chest.

“I couldn't do that to you.” He replied, leaning his head against mine.

“I have income, my grandfather pays most of the bills. Come on, Inu, we can make it- and you don't have to be with out a home.” I turned my face up to him. He smiled down at me, his eyes wandering between mine and my lips. “Inu…”

“Shut up Kagome.” His mouth was close to mine in seconds, his lips just centimeters from mine. I closed the gap, wrapping my arms around his neck, and burning up in our love. I wanted everything to be back to normal. When I pulled away, someone at the door coughed lightly and we both turned. Souta's doctor stood there.

“He's awake.” The smile on the doctor's face was bright and cheery. “He's very eager to see you.” He turned away expecting us to follow. I twisted my fingers in between Inu's. He started walking before I did, pulling me behind him.

We hurried down the stairs behind the doctor, who was explaining that Souta was making a great recovery. “He should be able to go home with in two or three days. He's nearly undetectable now.”

I nearly choked. What did he mean? A week ago he was supposed to be dead and they were telling me now that he was nearly normal. “What happened?”

“We think we finally found a type of treatment for it, perhaps someday soon a cure. He was too close to the edge not to try it- apparently it worked.” The doctor explained. I nodded. “We probably put years on his life.”

I smiled. “So he can go home soon?” The doctor nodded. I was relieved.

Inu squeezed my hand and leaned down to me to kiss my forehead. We got to the floor we were supposed to be on quickly. When we entered Souta's room he was sitting up, and turned to us smiling. He held his arms out to me, until I came around the bed to hug him.

My face buried into his shoulder, taking in his scent until I could no longer breath. He was smiling at me when I lifted my head again. Or maybe it was at the faces Inu was making behind my back. Little sneak. At least he was smiling.

“They told me I could go home tonight probably, do you have to work?” His voice sounded horrible, like he was hoping she didn't.

“I can call in and tell Kagura your coming home. It'll be okay I'm sure. She knows what's going on.”

“Kagura?” Souta asked. “But isn't she…?”

“I lost my job at `The Island'.” I said bluntly. He smiled.

“I knew it wouldn't last.”
