Chapter 8
Kagome ate her dinner in peace all alone. She wasn't sure where everyone was but she was lonely and wanted company. Earlier when she had woken up there was dinner set outside her door and no one had stopped by since then. Usually the Lord would stop by and just stand in her room while she ate, and as frustrating as it was she had gotten used to it.
After finishing her meal she decided to take a walk through the palace. It was clear that no one was going to stop her, since no one was there. She didn't see the harm in looking around anyways.
'It's not like I'm going to break anything.'
She passed through hallways lined with armor and paintings. More than anything there seemed to be a general theme of beasts and monsters. This came as little surprise to Kagome, but some part of her wondered why.
Every once in a while Kagome would choose a random door and peek inside. She was sure that she wouldn't find anyone behind any of the doors so she didn't fear bothering someone. Most of the rooms either ended up not being rooms and were actually hallways or they were small rooms with no furniture.
A few hours passed and Kagome started to get tired, but didn't know where she was. "Great I'm lost now." Up ahead she could see the end of the hall and she hoped there was a room on the other side of the door, not another hallway.
Kagome slowly twisted the knob and was surprised at what she found. There was a small futon set up in the corner, a desk in the center of the room, and a fire place opposite the futon. Since it was winter most of the rooms she had visited were cold but this one was pleasantly warm.
Closing the door behind her, Kagome decided it wouldn't hurt to stay in the room for one night. "Hopefully Lord comes back so I can get back to my room soon."
She sat down on the futon and sank into the soft padding. "Not even my room is this nice." Kagome smiled and laid down. After pulling the covers up she fell quickly to sleep.
***********
"Why do you want to know that?"
"Because I am wondering if you can forge me one of it's like."
The bald youkai shook his head, "That was a special favor, I am making no more swords." He scratched his chin and frowned, "How do you know about the swords I made for Lord Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha?"
"I have the one that belongs to Sesshoumaru. The hanyou can keep his trinket if he wishes."
He sat up straight and tears sprung to his eyes, "I knew that no good whelp Sesshoumaru would lose that sword. It was a true master piece, I never should have left that in his care." He held out his hand, "Give it to me, it belongs to me."
"No it belongs to me, you shall not have it back."
"How can you say that?! You stole it from Sesshoumaru and I am the maker so by right it is mine!!"
"Either way you will not have it back." His brown eyes surveyed the sky, rain was coming. "What happened to the third sword?"
He faltered, "How do you know about that?"
"That, Totosai, is none of your concern. Where is the third sword?"
"I don't know. Lord Inutaisho hid it away until the bearer came to claim it."
He sighed at the headache he could feel developing. "You have no idea where the third sword is?"
"No, and even if I did I wouldn't tell you where it is. That sword belongs to someone else, either Sesshoumaru or Inuyasha. Whichever one finds it first will be the one to keep it I suppose." Totosai looked at the beast in wonder, 'How was he able to take Sesshoumaru's sword from him?' He would give his left arm to have seen the face of the cold youkai Lord when he was beaten then robbed.
"Fine I am done with you." He turned away and started walking back to where he knew there was shelter from the storm.
Totosai watched him go and got the sudden feeling that he had seen this youkai beast before. He shook it off and headed into the sky.
The Lord had taken shelter in a nearby cave to escape the oncoming rain. He had no idea where to continue from where he was. He either required a new sword of the Tetsusaiga's like or the third and final one Lord Inutaisho had made with the Tenseiga and Tetsusaiga. The only problem was only Inutaisho knew where it was and he was dead.
He sighed and stared off into the rain as it started to fall. Unbidden, Kagome consumed his thoughts.
For all that he knew, Kagome was one thing he could not figure out. She was so different than every miko he had ever crossed paths with. Her energy, her willingness to help others, her fighting skill, and her beauty. He shook that last thought out of his head, or at least tried. No matter how he tried she would not leave his thoughts.
Even when he slept she was all he dreamt about. Under normal circumstances he would just have his way with her and be done, but his feelings for her had grown so much that he couldn't do that.
Had he known in the beginning that she would have caused him to feel like he was now he would have never let her enter his home.
'Is that true?' He didn't know the answer to that and it frightened him.
He was getting weaker because of his feelings for her. She was taking up his thoughts at all times, making him get caught off guard more and more often. 'This can not be allowed to continue.'
'Will you be the one to put a stop to it?'
He shook his head. There were too many conflicting feelings for him to think clearly anymore. With all his strength he cleared his mind and just felt.
He wanted her to stay, he needed her, he wanted to see her, and he was starting to love her. Nothing in his life had ever mattered like she mattered to him right now.
"I can't love her. I'm a monster and she is a miko..."
For the rest of the night his thoughts argued over what he should do and what would happen when she found out who he was.
***********
Sitora sighed. Her boredom was getting the better of her again. "Koa if I don't do something I am going to explode."
He rolled his eyes and continued to watch the movements of the small village. "It's a wonder no one knows we are here yet with all of your complaining."
"Shut up." She sat up and stretched. "Fine, stay here I am going for a quick run."
"Do not be seen."
"I know." Sitora took off into the bushes at top speed, she was unconcerned about someone seeing her. She wasn't even going towards the village so there was no point in worrying.
Seeing a nice waterhole Sitora stopped for a drink. She really didn't see the point in being out here, there was nothing going on that they didn't already know.
She didn't even see her attacker hiding in the bushes. Her world went dark as she drank.
*******
Koa was getting tired of waiting for Sitora, she hadn't come back yet and he was getting pissed off. He decided to go look for her.
She was nowhere to be found.
He came up on a clearing and saw her lying there on the ground. She was dead. Koa could smell the stench of death on her and knew that nothing could be done now. His eyes clouded with tears, he shook his head trying to clear them. This was not the time to be crying, there would be time for that later. Now he needed to find the one who did it, but first he had to tell his Lord.
It hurt to leave Sitora lying there dead but he couldn't stay there long, it might be a trap. With one last longing look back, Koa turned away from his long-time friend and lost love.
Koa returned to his look out post one last time before heading back to the palace. Everyone in the village was as it was before so that meant that no youkai had come this way. 'Did it just want Sitora?'
He shook his head as thoughts of her filled his mind. 'Now is not the time. I have to get back.'
As fast and hard as he could, Koa ran. He ran from the pain of losing her and to the hope that vengeance could be made.
*******
He returned to the palace to find peace, quiet, and no one around. Koa and Sitora were still at the village and who knew where Kagome was. 'Hm, where did she get to?' ~Kagura.~
"Yes?"
"Where is the miko?" His brown eyes scanned the room.
"Last I saw of her she was wondering the halls, I'd imagine that she is back in her room. There was nothing for her to do so she looked around." Kagura shrugged her massive shoulders, "I wasn't going to stop her."
He sighed, "Have you heard anything from Sitora or Koa?"
"No Lord I haven’t." She turned and left him alone.
"Very well then you may go." Deciding to leave the miko for now he headed to his study.
He sat down at his desk and looked over the documents he had prepared. There were several maps of the land and all were there for one purpose. He needed to find that creature that lived in the forest. After feeling the youki of that being getting closer to the palace he knew there was no waiting...
There was no proof of who this creature was, but he had a good idea of who it was. Every time the youki appeared so did those youkai... not for long but they were there. His eyes scanned over the maps and all of the places marked off, that left very few places for him to be.
'I'm getting closer.' He closed his eyes and leaned beck in the chair and sighed. Though it happened rarely, he was tired. Too much had been done the last few weeks and his body was starting to feel it.
Standing up, he gave one last look at the maps and walked away.
Walking the halls he let his mind drift to the miko, 'Kagome...' He wanted her, he wasn't going to deny it any longer. The only thing that kept him from claiming her was his appearance. He shook his head, 'She's a miko...' A growl tore from his lips as he made it to his room.
Someone was in there... He pushed open the door and his eyes widened. There in the middle of his bed was Kagome and she was wearing one of his old haoris. Closing the door quietly behind him, he walked over to the bed and looked down at her peaceful face.
She had a small smile on her face and her arms were around one of his pillows.
A smile found its way to his face as he looked at her. "Kagome."
She stirred a little but settled back into a peaceful sleep.
"Kagome." He said it a little louder.
Her eyes opened slowly and she looked around as her eyes focused. When her eyes landed on his she smiled brightly, sleepily. "You're back..."
"Yes I am." He sat on the edge of the bed and looked into her sleepy eyes.
"Where were you?"
"I was taking care of some business." He looked down at his haori, "What are you doing in here and why are you wearing that?"
She blushed when she looked down. Kagome wasn't wearing anything under the haori, it was large enough to reach her knees. "I was looking around the palace and got lost. I didn't know where I was and I got tired so I came in here. I found this in the back of that large closet, I hope you don't mind..."
"Well it is a large bed so I suppose there is enough room and as for the haori as long as you ensure that it isn't ruined you may keep it."
Kagome smiled until something hit her, "Large enough? For what?"
"Of all the rooms in this palace, you found mine." He smirked as realization dawned in her eyes.
"I am so sorry! I didn't mean to look through your things and sleep in your bed..." She started to get out but he stopped her.
"It is fine, I assure you." He put his paw on her cheek, "Yes..."
Kagome's eyes watched him in confusion, "Yes? Yes what?"
He leaned in until his lips were inches from hers, "I will kiss you..." With that he closed the distance between them.
Her eyes widened before slipping closed as she enjoyed the feelings his lips invoked. Kagome wrapped her arms around his neck and sighed.
Taking her acceptance as a cue he deepened the kiss by running his tongue over her lips. When she gasped he slipped his tongue into her mouth. Kagome fought him for dominance over the kiss.
When he finally pulled away Kagome was panting with a blush on her cheeks. "Lord..."
"Shhh." He put his finger up to her lips, "Sleep now, we will face the consequences in the morning."
Kagome laid down and looked up at him.
He took his cape off and slipped into his bed with her. His chest was up against her back and he could feel her tenseness. Smirking to himself he leaned up near her ear and whispered, "Calm down Kagome." A sharp intake of breath was his response.
"O-okay." Kagome was trying to calm down but with him so close it was difficult. She could feel his breath on her neck and it was sending shivers down her spine.
The scent of her arousal drifted to his nose and he nearly groaned. He didn't think Kagome would react like she was and he was hoping that she would slip asleep. 'Kagome...' It was taking all of his will to keep his arousal hidden, he was right up against her and she would feel him.
She gulped, there was no way she was going to sleep now. There was a throbbing between her legs and every time she pushed her legs together it got worse. 'Kami what did I do to deserve this?'
"Miko..." He was starting to give in, he could feel himself starting to get hard.
Kagome's brows knit together and all signs of her arousal ceased, she turned to face him, "You know my name! I know you do so use it!" She turned back and laid down with her arms crossed.
He almost chuckled but held it in. She had managed to calm down after yelling at him. "Goodnight Kagome."
She sighed, "Goodnight."
