Chapter 9
Inuyasha walked ahead of everyone with Kikyo at his side. They had decided to go back into the forest one more time to see how far they could get.
Miroku was walking just behind Sango with his eyes on her rear and his hand moving slowly towards it. Shippo sat in Sango's arms watching Miroku. He had a strange gleam in his eye. After saying something to her Shippo jumped out of her arms and walked beside Kirara.
He looked back ahead and waited for it.
There was a slap and a thud.
"You hentai! When this is over I hope I never see you again!" Sango stomped away from the monk.
"Hey Sango can he still walk?"
She looked at Inuyasha with fire in her eyes, "Unfortunately yes."
"Good, because we aren't waiting for anyone!" Inuyasha's mind wandered to Kagome and he nearly growled... He needed to get her back, he owed her so much.
Kikyo looked up at Inuyasha when she felt him tense and saw the look of anger in his eyes. She had to wonder how much Inuyasha felt for Kagome and what it meant for her. "Inuyasha?"
His head snapped up and he looked down at her, "What's wrong?"
"I... never mind. Are you alright?"
Furrowing his brows, he nodded, "Yeah I just want to get Kagome back. This never should have happened, I should have been there for her."
Miroku listened to their conversation in silence. He knew that Inuyasha chose Kikyo over Kagome and that he had played with her feelings before he made his decision. And just now there was something close to jealously in Kikyo's eyes... There was a bad feeling deep in his heart... and he prayed that Kagome would not be put in the middle of the two again.
Kikyo sighed, "There was no way you could have known that this would happen."
"I know, but she always helped me... I should have moved to her village when I had the chance." He looked away from Kikyo, "If something happens to her I don't know what I'll do..."
"We'll just have to make sure we get her back Inuyasha." Kikyo looked off into the distance.
Miroku shook his head, "We should stop for the night. It’s been getting colder Inuyasha and tonight seems much worse."
"Fine. We'll stop here."
They walked off the path a little before Inuyasha stopped them, "There's something here." He walked over to a place where it seemed that the trees had been knocked down and he knelt. He looked down in astonishment, 'No way...'
Sango peered over him, "What is it?"
"Its Koa... he's badly injured." Inuyasha pulled the tree off of him and looked him over, "He's barely alive."
Miroku knelt next to Inuyasha, "Come we must help him Inuyasha."
He nodded, "Sango Kikyo could you start a fire, Shippo you get water."
"Ok!" The small kitsune ran off with a pan.
As soon as the fire was started Kikyo worked on dressing Koa's wounds. He was lucky to be alive by the looks of things.
Once he was bandaged they laid him down on a blanket and waited. As the night went on the temperature dropped and clouds started to fill the sky.
Miroku looked up as the first snow hit the ground. "Inuyasha we can't stay out here, we'll freeze."
"Fine! Pack everything up and I'll find some caves." He picked Koa up and waited for everyone to finish. When the fire was out Inuyasha led them a series of caves not too far from where they had set up camp. They all moved to the back of the cave and started another fire.
Koa was once again laid on top of a blanket and had another one put over him. Sango and Miroku were curled up next to Kirara and Shippo was in Sango's lap. Inuyasha had Kikyo in his arms and everyone sat in silence.
The only noise in the cave was from the crackling fire and the whistling wind and snow outside.
~*~
Kagome woke up slowly and looked around her. She didn't feel the warmth of the Lord up against her back anymore. Turning over she was met with an empty bed. With a sigh she got up and she saw a door on the far wall opposite the hallway.
She walked over to the door and peered inside, he wasn't in there. Her curiosity got the better of her and she pushed open the door. The room was dark except for a light far in the back. Kagome stepped inside and looked around.
It was dark almost too dark to see. There was a fire place to her right and above it was a torn picture of someone. There were five large gashes going through the picture making it impossible to tell who it was of. She walked up to it and tried to push the broken canvas back together to see the face but she couldn't make anything out. Just the eyes stuck out...
The wind suddenly picked up blowing some snow in the window and knocking a chair over.
Kagome turned at the noise but gasped at what she saw. Sitting on a lone table was a pink rose that shone with a strange light. Around the rose was a glass dome. It looked like the rose was made of some kind of jewel...
She walked up to it and carefully took the glass cover off of the rose, she set it aside. Kagome slowly reached towards the rose.
A snort pulled Kagome from her trance and she whirled around. The Lord stood there with his eyes trained on hers, "What are you doing back here?" He looked down and saw the rose, a growl tore from his lips. With lightning speed he covered the rose back up and growled at her again, "You shouldn't be here."
She looked up at him with fear in her eyes, "I'm sorry I meant no harm."
He bared his teeth, "Do you know what you could have done?!" The Lord threw a chair against the wall and glare up at her through anger clouded eyes, "Get out." He turned over a table and another chair hit the wall not feet from Kagome.
"No stop." She turned away and ran from the room.
"Get out!!"
Kagome ran down the stair and out the doors into the snow. She got a horse from the stable and rode into the forest.
He tried to calm his breathing, then it hit him... what he had done. He had chased Kagome away. Leaning down he put his hands up to his face, "What have I done..."
~*~
Kagome pushed the horse as fast as he could go, she had to get away. The frost and snow bit at her face and bare legs, but she ignored it. Before she knew what was happening the horse had stopped, "What are you doing? Go!"
It just whinnied and seemed confused.
Then Kagome felt it, they were surrounded by youkai, she just couldn't see them. 'Great no weapon either.' From out of the shadows several ogres emerged, most of them were growling and had drool dripping from their fangs.
They all launched at her at once, Kagome shot miko energy out of her palms knocking a few of them back. She nudged the horse and he started going again with little coaxing.
All of the ogres followed her and clawed at the horse’s rear.
Up ahead there was a clearing so Kagome pushed the horse to go faster and he did. They started across the clearing when the ground broke beneath them. Freezing water stung Kagome's legs but she didn't let go of the horse.
Some how the ogres leapt from the large pieces of ice to ones that were closer to her. They tried to grab at the haori on her to pull her back.
"No!" She shot more power at them and forced them back. The horse managed to make it to the other side of the river and ran again. Kagome hoped that the ogres gave up but she could still feel them back there.
One of them knocked Kagome off of the horse and the reins got caught up on a tree branch. She stood next to the horse ready to fight if she needed to.
They circled around her and snapped at the horse.
She knew there was nothing she could do, she was still weak and could barely afford to use anymore of her power.
Kagome closed her eyes when one of the ogres lunged towards her. She heard growling and a loud roar, Kagome's eyes shot open. He was there, he came for her.
She watched as he tore through all of them with little effort. Two of them managed to wound him and others got on his back. He tore them off of him and threw them into trees.
He glared at them and dared them to try again. They each backed off and ran the other way.
His eyes met hers before he collapsed.
Kagome pulled the reins on the horse and led him away from the Lord. She stopped not too far from him though, 'He saved me... I can't just leave him here...'
She managed to get him up on the horse and walked beside the horse back to the palace.
~*~
Koa awoke to a fire and had no idea where he was. He looked up and saw Inuyasha and his companions, 'They helped me...' His eyes clouded, 'Sitora... I have to get back to tell him...' He stood up slowly, painfully.
"Where do you think you're going?"
He looked up and saw Inuyasha standing over him, "I am leaving. I have to tell my Lord something important."
"We'll go with you then." Sango stood up with her weapon over her shoulder.
"No, that is no allowed." Koa tried to get past Inuyasha when he pushed Koa back.
"We want Kagome back."
He looked at the kit, "Kagome is happy where she is... but if I do not get back there something terrible might happen."
"Like what?" Miroku stood next to Inuyasha.
"The palace will be attacked, I have to warn them!" Koa broke past them and disappeared into the snow.
Sango sighed, "We can't follow him, it’s too dangerous."
Inuyasha huffed, "I know... Damn it!"
~*~
Kagome sat on the floor while the Lord sat in a large chair, she was cleaning his wounds.
He had four long gashes on his arm along with some minor places where the ogres had bitten him. Every time she put the warm cloth on his wounds he would cringe and growl softly.
"This is going to hurt." She put the cloth on the larges of his wounds and he growled loudly.
"That hurt!" He glared at her, "This never would have happened if you hadn't run away."
"I wouldn't have fun away if you hadn't frightened me!" She looked up at him with defiance.
He opened his mouth and then closed it with nothing to say. Then his eyes lit up and he said, "I wouldn't have frightened you if you hadn't been where you weren't allowed."
"Well if you weren't so secretive it wouldn't have happened!" She went back to tending his wounds. Kagome looked up at him, "Thank you for saving me."
He looked down at her with surprise, "Oh, you're welcome."
~*~
Kagome looked around her in wonder. There was snow everywhere she looked. The garden had been transformed over night into a snow covered wonderland. She smiled and started to make a snow angel.
He watched her from the window inside. ~Kagura.~
"Yes?"
He turned away from the window, "Have you heard from Koa or Sitora?"
"No not yet my Lord."
He frowned, "Fine, you may go."
She bowed and left him in peace.
It wasn't like Sitora and Koa to go this long without checking in with him. He turned his attention back to the garden, Kagome was down there playing with some wolf pups. His eyes shot open, 'Wolves.'
He moved down with lightning speed to the garden and stood behind her.
She looked up at him and smiled, "They belong to a tribe of wolves that I know the leader, he's an old friend of mine." Kagome turned back and laughed at the pups.
There was a howl in the distance and the pups scurried off.
He watched them go then started to turn back to Kagome.
She threw a snowball and hit him right in the face.
The snow stuck to his fur and he growled playfully at. He knelt down and started to gather a large snowball. With little effort he lifted it over his head and went back to throw it at her.
Kagome hit him in the face again and laughed as the one he was holding fell on him. "Nice throw." She ducked and ran away as he started to throw more at her.
"My Lord."
He turned at Kagura's voice, "What?"
Kagome stopped and came out from behind the tree.
"It's Koa, he's here and he's barely alive."
Kagome gasped and followed after the Lord as he strode into the palace. He led her to the room where Koa was in.
As the stepped into the room Kagome saw just how bad he was. "Koa..." She went over to him without hesitation and knelt at his side. Kagome started using her miko powers to heal him.
Once again he was surprised at her willingness to help others, even youkai. He stood over them and watched.
~*~
"I'm sorry... I didn't mean to let the inu escape..."
His eyes glowed a bright red, "You will not fail me again."
"No I will not." He bowed his head.
Without a warning or second thought he removed his servant's head. "You won't have the chance..." He looked out the window, he wanted her here with him. Even now, after some time had passed he could remember his first meeting with the miko Kagome.
He had asked for her hand and she declined, then he saw her with a hanyou in the forest and knew that a human had no chance. It was then that he decided he would give anything to have her.
After offering his body up to different youkai he became stronger, became something a hanyou could never hope to be. All of his time was spent getting stronger so he could have her. If she didn't want him still? He would force her.
A wicked smiled twisted his cruel face as he thought of the times he could have with her.
"You will be mine..."
He knew where she was, she was with him... When he found out she was so close he started his attack on the servants of that monster. Nothing and no one would keep him from her.
~*~
Inuyasha looked out the cave and sighed, there was no way he would be able to track Koa now. The snow covered everything making tracking impossible.
He looked back at his companions, "I want you guys to head back to the village. I'll keep looking for Kagome, but I can go faster if I don't have to wait or carry anyone."
They all looked at each other. Kikyo smiled, "Alright, find her and bring her back Inuyasha. I'll be waiting for you there."
Sango, Miroku, and Shippo nodded, "Yeah, if anyone can bring her back its you."
He smirked, "I'll see you guys later then. Be careful getting back." Inuyasha left the cave and vanished into the white snow.
Miroku shrugged, "Shall we then?" As Sango stepped in front of him his hand started to move close to her rear.
Sango went about packing her things when she felt a hand on her, "Monk!" She whirled around and raised her hand.
His hand stopped hers and his lips claimed hers in a deep kiss. When he pulled away she was blushing, "I would be honored if you would marry me and bear my children Sango."
She looked at him in shock, this was very unexpected. "Y-yes."
A smile lit up his face and he hugged her, "Your father will be pleased."
She rolled her eyes, "Come on monk."
Kikyo watched the two with envy in her eyes, she wished that she could experience that kind of joy.
Shippo smiled and danced with Kirara, "I thought that you said you'd never marry him?"
She glared at Shippo, "Well I was wrong!"
He laughed and hopped up on her shoulder, "I'm happy for you Sango!"
"Thanks Shippo." She finished packing their things and looked at them all, "Come on then."
