The Potion

Kikyo stared at Inu Yasha wondering how to handle this; several times since Kagome brought her back he had taken her in the night. She hadn't stopped it because she wanted him, and without her responsibilities she could have him. Now a consequence was growing inside her, and she knew that Inu Yasha would not want this, he barley wanted her some nights. At first she thought he had really wanted her, and that's why he was being with her so often, it wasn't until one night, when he lost control, which happened sometimes because he didn't have tessagia when he was completely naked, and his youkai blood called for Kagome in his height of passion and not her. She knew then, that she was a replacement for his hand to quell his desire for Kagome. That had been the last time she had been with him, she fully expected that to be the last intimate moment she would ever share with him. That wasn't possible now; it would never be possible again. Even if she tried to run, and tried to hide it, he would go after her, and he would find out why, and that would only make things worse. If she stayed, and didn't tell him, he would find out no matter what. He would wake up soon, and she would tell ­­him, that was all there was to it. She wrung her hands together and watched him waiting. Finally the tension in her got so bad she grunted in frustration and Inu Yasha jumped awake. He was angry, not a good start, she could have been more patient.

"Morning" he grumbled and stood up to put his shirt back on. Kikyo didn't bother wasting time, she might as well just tell him.

"I have to tell you something," she admitted.

"What" Inu Yasha groaned as he sat back down and turned to look at her.

"We must deal with the repercussions of our… nightly behavior" Kikyo replied.

"What the fuck does that mean?" Inu Yasha asked annoyed and took a deep breath to calm down "Cant you just saw what-" Inu Yasha froze mid sentence when he got the full whiff of her scent. His eyes widened and he just gaped at her.

"Would you stop looking at me like that, its as much your fault as it is mine" Kikyo yelled.

"The hell it is, you're the one that's carrying it not ME!" Inu Yasha screamed.

"Oh and I suppose I did this all by myself" Kikyo said pointed to her stomach. Inu Yasha growled and looked back at her, he dipped his head slightly and sniffed her and growled again. There was no denying it she was carrying his pup. He may had been able to pretend he was with Kagome not Kikyo all those times, but he could not pretend that Kikyo was carrying his and Kagome's child. Kikyo stood and walked out of the hut, not bothering to explain herself. Inu Yasha just stared after her, he didn't know how to feel, his life belonged by her side now. It was strange, all those times he desired to be by her side again, all the times he broke Kagome's spirit a little more just for a moment with Kikyo, how long had he wanted for her to chose to be by his side as she was now. He realized of course, he would have to mark her now. He didn't have a choice. It had almost been half a year since Kikyo had been brought back to life. Kagome, Sesshoumaru, Jaken, Shippo, and Rin were hardly here anymore; they spent most of their time at his palace. When they did visit it was so Rin and Shippo could see everyone. Inu Yasha flopped back on the bed and smacked himself in the head a few times, Kagome was coming to visit again this week. She apparently had sent a message to Sango saying she had something important to do when she got here.

"SESSHOURMARU…SESSHOUMARU!!!!" Kagome screamed from her study, she had finally figured it out, she could fix everything! She smiled when she sensed him coming towards the room as if death was at his heels. He barged into the room, toukijin drawn. Kagome giggled at the look on his face.

"Honestly, you and that sword, did you sense anything when I yelled?" Kagome said as she breezed past him.

"Then why did you scream?" Sesshoumaru demanded. Kagome walked back towards the cluttered desk, her arm brushing against his tenderly and she plopped back into her chair.

"Well?" Sesshoumaru repeated

"I can do it, I can fix it."

"Fix what"

"Inu Yasha and Kikyo"

"How?"

"The only thing that is making this so hard for him, is remembering his love for me, and knowing what Kikyo became when she was brought back by Urasue right"

"…Right"

"Well, all I have to do is bring his soul and hers to peace with it. The rosary that Inu Yasha still wears, I can make two new ones as a gift for Inu Yasha and Kikyo, for their eventual mating, when he marks her, it will release the magic in the rosary and cause them and everyone else to be at peace with what happened. I've been working on this damn spell for months, I thought should it be something they drink, how do I do this, but I got it! If they drank it, it would be to obvious, but not like this, because as we know, you're not really thinking when you mark your mate."

"How do you plan to enchant these rosaries? Wont the spell wear off if either one takes off the rosary."

"Nope, the effects are permanent, they will be in love like they were before Naraku, but they will still remember what happened. There was no way to erase the memories without erasing the lessons they had to learn."

"What if he doesn't mark her?"

"I believe in his honor, he would not keep taking her if he didn't have the intention to stay with her, he's just having some difficulty in getting past what she did."

"If your sure"

"I am, and I'm sure that they will be happy that we are staying for a long time this time around, yes I know…. You wish we weren't staying so long, but we have to. I want Kaede to marry us officially, I know I'm not human, but I still want it"

"Very well, but the runts are staying here for the time being, Ah Un will bring them after we are sure that Kikyo and Inu Yasha are truly back to normal. No need putting them in risk by being around her."

"I honestly don't think she would harm a child, even when she was no longer `human' she would not harm a child"

"Do you forget, Shippo is a youkai, child or not; he is a youkai."

"Oh please, she's sleeping with you're brother a hanyou, I think that perhaps her overwhelming desire to destroy youkai and hanyou is gone.

"I don't trust that woman," Sesshoumaru yelled back as he walked away.

"NEITHER DO I, BUT WE DON'T HAVE A CHOICE" Kagome screamed. "This just sucks" Kagome muttered into her papers.

"I heard that" Sesshoumaru shouted.

"Didn't tell you to listen" Kagome whispered.

"SHE'S WHAT!?!" Sango screamed at the hanyou.

"…Pregnant, ok" he groaned

"You are going to mark her then?" Miroku questioned as he walked out of the hut leaving his wife to handle the irate hanyou

"…"

"Inu Yasha…." Sango growled

"I know, I have to but…."

"Face it, you've been pretending all along that she was Kagome, you stayed by her for your own selfish reasons, now your trapped, at least before you had the chance to walk away, admit you didn't want it, you can't do that anymore" Sango scolded

"I KNOW, I never wanted it when I found out, how could I, I know it wasn't her, but none of this would have happened with Kagome."

"Well that was your mistake, you had the chance you knew how much she loved you, and you went to Kikyo, and then oh you found out you were actually wrong this whole time, don't expect sympathy for your own stupidity, it wont happen. Ever since I caught you in the woods, I've been telling you to end it before it got out of hand and you wouldn't listen, you "had it under control" some control Inu Yasha"

"Nothing I can do know, I'm not some cruel bastard that would abandon her now, she's… she's carrying my pup, there's not a chance I'd run away. I won't hide it, I don't want this, how can I look forward to having a pup with a woman who despises youkai and hanyou, and now's she's carrying one. I'm glad she has such minimal miko abilities or she might have tried to purify it. I wouldn't be surprised if she had tried to when she found out anyway" Inu Yasha sighed.

"Do you believe she has changed at all, or despite everything do you only see the Kikyo that had no soul, that helped Naraku, that bedded with him…?"

"I know its not her, I know that Kagome fixed everything, when it comes down to it, but she remembers it all, I remember it all, its impossible to just let it go. I don't know how to fix it this time, I always thought that I could fix it, that was before I knew."

"Well you do know that Kagome, Sesshoumaru, Shippo, and Rin are coming for a visit next moon, which is tomorrow, it might sound strange, but you need to talk to Kagome. There isn't much else I can say, you know what I think." Sango said as she walked away, "Good luck, I have to go find Miroku."

Inu Yasha slumped against the wall and slammed his head into it a few times for good measure. Everything he had shared with Kagome, had been for nothing, all the memories, all the moments they shared. It was really gone now; there was no going back, no changing this one. He lifted himself from the floor and went to prepare for marking Kikyo. It was going to take everything in him to do this, but he didn't have the luxury of time, I an inuyoukai, or hanyou were to not mark the bitch carrying his pup, the bitch or pup could die.

Sesshoumaru and Kagome gathered their belongings and headed towards Kaede's village, Kagome ran along side Sesshoumaru Ah-Un following behind with Shippo, Rin, and their belongings. Sesshoumaru had left Jaken behind to maintain the castle now that they were actually living in it. At the rate they were going they would be early, hopefully they would make it before Inu Yasha ran away or marked her. Kagome extended her senses hoping to learn something. From what she could tell Inu Yasha and Kikyo were on opposite sides of the village, and….Kikyo was pregnant…. That meant Inu Yasha would be marking her very soon. They definitely had to hurry. Kagome looked at Sesshoumaru and noticed he to could sense it and they increased their speed. Shippo and Rin clung to Ah-Un squealing in delight at the fast pace that Sesshoumaru normally scolded Jaken for allowing Ah-Un to travel. The moment they landed Inu Yasha was there to greet them, shouting their arrival to the village. Kagome smiled and Shippo and Rin ran off to play with the village children. Sango and Miroku made their way over to the group and Sango grabbed Kagome into a hug. Inu Yasha and Sesshoumaru nodded their heads curtly at each other before going back to their glare. Kagome saw as Kikyo emerged from the fields to greet them. Kagome did her best to not react badly to the woman's presence, but it was very difficult for her. Kikyo bowed to Kagome and Sesshoumaru and then returned to her work. Kagome nodded at Sesshoumaru before taking hold of Inu Yasha and walked off with him.

"How have you been?" Kagome asked.

"Fine, how long you plan to stay this time?" Inu Yasha responded gruffly.

"The same as usual, we'll leave the day before your human night. You know how we plan it, we come the day after your human night, and leave the day before, this way your secret is safe. I don't know why you refuse to trust Rin and Sesshoumaru, he swore that he would not kill you, knowing your human night, won't change that, he still wont kill you."

"Keh, I don't believe it, he's a bastard, always has been, always will be. He may not be a bastard to you, but it's all I know from him, and he can never know about my human night ever. He can never realize why you are never here on the new moon." Inu Yasha said quietly well aware his brother could hear him if he spoke loud enough.

"Fine, but I'm telling you he's changed. Just like you changed. If I remember you tried to kill me the first time you met me as well-"

"Stupid wench, if I had really been trying to kill you, you would not be standing here right now, I just wanted to scare you into giving me the shikon no tama-"

"Yeah I've heard this one before, if I recall your brother also tried to kill me and did not succeed-"

"Duuuh, you had me to protect you from him, if I hadn't been there he probably would have killed you-"

"That's not true it was my arrow that caused tessaiga to lose its transformation. It was also my arrow that broke his armor." Kagome defended.

"Kagome, the point is, I wasn't really trying to kill you, and he was."

"Well he doesn't try to anymore, and even if either of you were to try now, you'd get your butts kicked." Kagome chirped smugly. She noticed that Sesshoumaru and Kikyo were both close enough to accidentally walk near them and over hear the conversation. So without explanation she raced off towards her favorite hot spring, which was quiet a distance from the village, and Kikyo and Sesshoumaru. Inu Yasha instinctively chased after her as she sprinted and jumped through the trees. Inu Yasha however did not realize she had stopped along the edge of the spring and went to jump in front of her and plummeted into the steaming water. Kagome did her best not to laugh as he climbed out of the water and shook himself off scowling about stupid wenches.

"AND JUST WHAT DO YOU THINK IS SO FUNNY BI-WENCH!"

"Nothing, nothing at all, s.i.t down." Kagome soothed.

"Feh" Inu Yasha grumbled as he sat down next to Kagome, who had thankfully remember to spell out the word and not just say it carelessly like she used to.

"So what's so important that you had to drag me out all the way over here." Inu Yasha groaned.

"Nothing, I just know you don't like it when Sesshoumaru overhears our conversations so I went just far enough away so that he couldn't hear."

"Oh"

"So tell me, the scent coming from Kikyo, she's with pup, and you haven't marked her, you do plan to do it right" Kagome growled

"Of course, what kind of inu hanyou do you take me for wench"

"Well the fact that you've been with her all these times and still haven't marked her, what am I supposed to think?" Kagome teased.

"I've been meaning to, it just hasn't been the right… the right time." Inu Yasha defended.

"Inu Yasha, you know that's wrong, if you don't mark her soon, they'll both die. Tonight we'll have a celebration in honor of your mating and pup. I even found some non-alcoholic sake` for Kikyo. Yes I knew, I'm still a miko remember, you think I don't stretch out my senses once in awhile to check up on you guys" Kagome giggled.

"Your, your powers stretch that far?"

"Well of course, haven't you ever noticed how far some of the shards I've sensed have been?"

"I always thought that the youkai or human you sensed it in was moving."

"Nope, I've just improved a lot since I first came here, plus with the rest of my soul returned and the powers from the shikon no tama restored to me, focusing on Kaede's village is no problem from Sesshoumaru's."

"That's impressive Kagome, I never realized how powerful you are" Inu Yasha commented `I never noticed a lot of things about you Kagome, I always took all of it for granted…!' Inu Yasha berated himself silently. Kagome noticed the look pass through his eyes, she knew what thoughts troubled him, everyone knew, there was nothing to change that now. Hopefully her plan would at least fix what could be repaired.

"Well we better head back, I've got to make preparations for tonight's celebration" Kagome declared happily and she immediately raced off to the village not bothering to see if Inu Yasha followed, knowing he always did.

The village was beautiful, Kagome had gone all out to decorate, there were colored fabrics strung throughout the buildings and flowers in baskets and everything else that came to Kagome's mind, Shippo, Rin, and the village children had all willingly helped Kagome with her task, following her around the entire day tossing fabric and flowers everywhere. Inu Yasha and Kikyo stood at the center of the village while Kagome and Kaede blessed their union. Neither Kikyo nor Inu Yasha questioned when Kagome poured the sake` from the bottle in her kimono, both taking their sips with each toast. Kagome struggled not to grin as they finished the last of her potion; all that was left now was for Inu Yasha to mark Kikyo.

The party was a great success despite the tension between Kikyo and Inu Yasha, and Inu Yasha and Sesshoumaru; Kagome had managed to keep the brothers separated by dancing with Sesshoumaru or having Sesshoumaru dance with Rin. The only altercation being when Kagome had danced with Inu Yasha and both Kikyo and Sesshoumaru reacted, Kikyo broke down in tears and Sesshoumaru immediately stepped in before Kikyo did something stupid. Inu Yasha was left comforting the hormonal woman for the rest of the party making sure everything was perfect for her, anything to keep her from wanting to leave the party and be alone with him. As the villagers began to return to their homes for the night, each congratulating Inu Yasha and Kikyo as they passed, finally it was just Sango, Miroku, Inu Yasha, Kikyo, Sesshoumaru and Kagome, the children had long since fallen asleep in Kaede's hut. Sango and Miroku excused themselves as soon as the last of the villagers left, claiming exhaustion. Kagome could smell their intoxication and arousal and knew that they were not going to be sleeping. That left only the four of them, Kagome immediately pretended to be tired and Sesshoumaru lifted her from the ground and said goodnight, leaving Inu Yasha alone with Kikyo.

He never said anything to her, just walked over to the hut that the village had declared was for their growing family…. It wouldn't be that hard, mark and mate, feign sleep.
