`The feudal era three years after the incident'
Shippo stood there watching Inuyasha fight with a ferocity he's never seen before. He knew why Inuyasha fought like the devil; he had been driving himself for a way to leave his human side. For months all Shippo heard about was how being a human was a weakness. That all they do is cause pain wherever they roamed.
Shippo gave up trying to talk to Inuyasha about that day. Shippo had seen them together, he saw them kiss and then things went to another level.
He was hurt when he saw what transpired. He couldn't bring himself to move.
*Flash Back*
Miroku was sitting by the well waiting for Kagome to return like he normally did only this time there was no exterminator to flirt with. Kirara was still with them and he petted her absently. Inuyasha was still sulking that Kagome was gone as usual.
Soon he felt a foot step on his head.
“Kagome.”
“Oh, sorry Miroku.” She giggled. She straddled the well and allowed him to get up. He then helped her off of the well. His smile failed to reach his eyes for now they seemed hollow.
“Kagome…I miss her so much.”
“I know, I miss her too.” Kagome said.
She gave him a hug and he began to cry. Kirara had walked over to Shippo who was watching them. He's never seen Miroku cry. The kitsune cub picked up Kirara and began petting her too. His own tears beginning to form.
“How Kagome…how do I stop this hurt. It should have been me to die, I was cursed.”
“No don't say that Miroku, Sango…she wanted it this way. She wanted to be with Kohaku, you know how much she loved him.”
“…”
“Miroku?”
“I should have told her how I really felt. Kagome, I loved her…I love her still…”
Kagome hugged him harder to her. Rubbing his back and crying as well.
“She knows Miroku, she knows.”
He looked into her eyes to see if she was telling the truth. He saw his own sadness reflected in her chocolate orbs. He stared at her so hard that he imagined seeing Sango in her eyes. In his grief he kissed her.
Kagome tensed for a minute but allowed him this. Maybe he needed to say good-bye some how in order to let go.
When he removed his lips reality set in and he paled in shock.
“Lady Kagome…I'm so sorry.”
“No, don't be…it's alright.”
He looked at her again and he kissed her again, this time more aggressively, more need fully, full of anguish and pain.
Shippo took Kirara and hid behind the trees. He was so embarrassed and then shocked. All of a sudden he heard them fall to the ground, Miroku on top of her. His hands roaming her form. Kagome did nothing to protest, but in fact encouraged it. Then the rest was history. He was so upset, how could they do that to Inuyasha? He didn't understand. He thought Kagome loved Inuyasha and that Miroku was his friend. In his heart he knew what they did was wrong.
Yet he knew if Inuyasha saw them that hell would open up and swallow them all, he was ready to go and find Inuyasha and stall him when he caught Inuyasha's scent his heart stopped when he peeked out of the bushes and saw Inuyasha standing on top of the well, he saw the look in Inuyasha's eyes when he came with flowers for Kagome. Hurt, denial, shock and finally the one emotion that won out. Rage.
Shippo shook in fear and held on to Kirara.
“Kirara, our friends…they're going to die tonight.”
“mew.”
The two tailed curled up around Shippo to reassure him.
*End Flash Back*
“Thank you for freeing me.” Said the female Jeanie.
“Forget the thanks; aren't you supposed to give me three wishes now?”
Inuyasha had been searching for this creature called a Jeanie. Shippo had reminded him of this story book figure from when he reminisced about Kagome's story Arabian Knights.
Since then the hanyou set himself on a mission to see if Jeanie's were real or myths. He hunched on the fact that in Kagome's time anything with supernatural powers were considered fairytales, legends or folklore.
“Well, I see you're a man who knows what he wants.” The Jeanie purred.
She was beautiful with her long honey browned hair and eyes the color of jade. She had toasted tan skin and wore an emerald green outfit threaded in glittering silver. Her marbled eyes fed on his body greedily as she looked at his sinewy muscles as he placed his sword back in his sheath.
When Inuyasha noticed her attention he scowled at her. She pouted.
“My wishes.” He stated.
“(Sigh) Sure you don't want any fun before we get to that.”
He stood there with his usual annoyed stance.
“What would be your first wish master?”
Inuyasha smiled.
-------------------------------------------------
Miroku saw his daughter run from the tree. He saw Kagome sitting there and it reminded him of earlier days with his wife.
He thought he would be so happy with Kagome. He vowed to always love her and cherish her and was ecstatic when he found out that he was soon to be a father.
`How did our lives wind up like this? When did I become so unhappy that I dishonor my family? Kagome spared my life that day in the woods, she confronted Inuyasha and it was she who begged me to come with her to her time. It was also she who sealed the well to keep Inuyasha out. She sacrificed the one she truly loved for me.
Now, she's addicted to her medicine and our daughter is a misfit. Poor Hotaru is punished because of our mistake. How could I have thought at one time she wasn't my daughter?'
Miroku went back eighteen years ago. To the day that his daughter was born. He had come to the hospital with Kagome's mother and brother. He was so happy he couldn't contain himself. Kagome was about to have his child.
*Flash Back*
They thought if the child was a boy they would name him after his father and Kagome's grandpa and if it was a girl…well, they really didn't think of any names.
Kagome had a cesarean operation because her pelvis was swollen and so couldn't push the baby out naturally. And then some kind of complication had happened so they had to move her to the ER where he couldn't be in the room because they were putting her to sleep.
But after the worrying he finally saw his baby and found out the child was a girl. Instantly, his eyes teared up with pride as he saw the red little baby crying at the top of her lungs. He held the infant in his arms high enough so that Kagome's family members could see their new addition.
After a while he went to go see Kagome when the nurse said it was ok. He walked into her room and saw her lying there so small and pale under the covers shivering.
“Kagome…”
She didn't open her eyes and she was still filled with the drugs that they had given her for pain so understandably her mind was not functioning properly. But, he didn't know these things.
“Inuyasha…our child…is yours…forgive me.” She said barely over a whisper.
Miroku gasped and squeezed her hand. Kagome than woke up fully not remembering what she had just said.
“Miroku…is that you? Is our daughter alright?” she whispered tiredly.
At first he didn't want to respond. His heart hurt too much. His mind was wondering if she had cheated on him too. Did she go back through the well and reconcile with Inuyasha. Was the baby Inuyasha's?
“How…how did you know the baby was a girl?”
Kagome smiled weakly as she tried to shrug her shoulders.
“I didn't want to say anything, but I saw her glow from within my womb. The bigger she got the brighter the light.”
“Kagome?”
“I think she's born with the jewel in her like I was.”
“But, I sucked the jewel along with Naraku…so how could that be, maybe she's half…”
Kagome squinted her eyes with confusion did she sense some kind of mistrust coming from Miroku.
“Half what Miroku?”
“Nothing, maybe you're right. Well, I guess we'll need to keep her away from the well house at the age of fifteen huh?” He said with a false humor. Kagome was too out of it to question him further but smiled weakly at his joke.
It was later when their daughter used her spiritual powers for the first time at school, which was when Miroku decided to bring up what Kagome had said in the hospital.
“She is not my daughter, you had an affair with Inuyasha, you had said so. Now she's running around using youkai powers because of your unfaithfulness.”
“What are you talking about? An affair with Inuyasha? Miroku look at her she looks like you, how can she not be your daughter. You're talking nonsense. Are you still feeling guilty from what had happened? Do you not want to be with me now?”
“Don't change the damn subject Kagome, admit it you love Inuyasha still, you see him don't you?”
“What? Of coarse I still love Inuyasha, but Miroku, I love you you're my husband now, of coarse I don't see him, how can I, I sealed the well, he also said if he saw me again he'd kill me, so obviously I haven't seen him since I'm still here!”
“She's got powers Kagome, and those aren't all spiritual powers that she is using, those are youkai powers and you damn well know it. That girl had claw marks on her neck!”
However, it didn't matter what she said. He knew Hotaru was his, just looking at her you could tell. She had his eyes, his sensual mouth and his playful hair that kept falling in her eyes. But it hurt him too much to know that he betrayed Inuyasha and that Kagome had betrayed Inuyasha, the man she claimed to love with all her heart, so how can she not in turn go behind his back.
That thought alone made his angry, jealous mind reveal to Kagome that he had affairs behind her back while she went to see her precious Inuyasha. He disclosed to her how he went out to the bars in a nearby city and often found himself engaged with some woman there.
Kagome broke down into tears, and then she got angry enough that the two began to scream and yell at each other and that's when their seven year old daughter's eyes covered over in a pale lilac colored light and a voice that they hadn't heard in years came forth.
“The both of you betrayed the ones you love… you both betrayed the ones you loved.”
Both of them stood in shock while the girl stood there encased in purple light her mouth was moving but the words were not her own.
“Sango…” was all Miroku said with tears in his eyes for that was the vision he had seen.
Kagome on the other hand began to scream like a crazy woman saying sorry, forgive me, please don't kill me and that's when the little girl returned to normal. She knew something happened but didn't know what being that she didn't remember.
“Mommy, mommy are you ok?” The cherub of a little girl said running up to her mother to soothe her only to have Kagome shove her back forcefully with her magical powers of purification as if she were a monster. The little girl huddled over to a corner and things never were the same again.
*End Flash Back*
Miroku came out of his walk on memory lane. At one point and time he realized that Kagome never saw Inuyasha, he didn't understand what she meant by her statement that their child belonged to the hanyou, but, she no longer talked to him about the argument. Since then she had been in and out of the hospital from mental break downs.
And after he found out that he had contacted some kind of sexual disease that could be controlled with medicine, Kagome had nothing to do with him anymore when they weren't around their daughter. And so that left him to drink more and indulge in more sexual activities. Because of him, not only did he ruin his own life, but that of Kagome's and Hotaru's.
He saw Kagome crying beneath the tree talking to Inuyasha again pleading for forgiveness as if he were some sort of deity. She had done that a lot; he lowered his head and headed down the temple steps into a cab to the city of sin.
