Inuyasha and Shippo were hunting a lizard youkai who was becoming a bit of a bother. Inuyasha as impatient as ever was becoming annoyed.
“Why in the hell am I saving these humans again?”
Shippo sighed and responded.
“You have to protect the land your father bequeathed to you, so in doing that you have to protect the humans.”
“For all I care these stupid little monsters could have them. I don't need humans on my land, I don't need their problems, I'm going to live in the youkai dimension.”
“Inuyasha, if these lower level youkai keep killing these humans they get stronger and if they enter the youkai dimension they'll prey on the lesser youkai who serve you and become stronger still…do you want for these bothersome creatures to invade your lands and kill your servants and serfs in the dimension? If you get rid of them now they won't bother you later on.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know, keh, I just wish I could find this stupid bastard so I can do more important things.”
They were quiet for a moment sniffing the air and straining their ears to listen for their prey.
“Inuyasha, why do you suppose that girl felt familiar somehow?”
“Huh?”
“You know that girl that came through the well earlier today. What part of time do you think she came from? Her clothes seem somewhat familiar to Kagome's but different.”
“...”
“You mean to tell me you're not the least bit curious?”
“…”
“Inuyasha?”
“No. I am not. Why the hell did you bring it up for, who cares anyway, damn can't we go hunting in peace, I mean it Shippo quit it!”
However, the girl kept playing in his mind this whole time and that was what was pissing him off even more. He blamed her for not being able to find the stupid lizard already.
All of a sudden he smelled it; the nasty rodent. He smiled crookedly and cracked his knuckles it was about time.
“Inuyasha?”
“Come on Shippo, stop lagging behind talking about shit, we got work to do.”
He took off running on the trees and that's when he felt it, pure unadulterated power, the hairs on his neck rose up some as his blood began to run hot and cold. Fear and lust for this power seemed to halt his movements. He shook off the feeling and walked slowly now approaching the power when he spotted them. He stopped and noticed the purple glow form around the two figures and then poof. The lizard was gone with one last scream of pain it was purified. The girl remained on the ground crying saying something over and over again about not getting hurt again.
“She's a priestess?” Shippo said out of breath feeling the same feelings that Inuyasha felt.
“Damn it all to hell, just what I needed, now the villagers don't need my protection, their going to turn on us and send her to purify the rest of us youkai.”
“Inuyasha you don't know that?”
Golden eyes flashed dangerously as Inuyasha growled low.
“Don't I, did you forget how quickly Kagome and Miroku betrayed me? Don't you remember how scared the villagers were of me when they saw me last?”
“But Inuyasha, you were so upset, you were…”
But Shippo couldn't finish his sentence the inu youkai lord turned around in anger and headed back into the dimension, with his red robes and white furry boa flowing gracefully behind him and his silver hair shining with the setting sun back to his home brooding on past memories and possible new problems.
Shippo sighed and looked on once more as the girl was heading back into the village for the night.

Hotaru sat in the hot tub filled water scrubbing at her skin crying. Why couldn't she shake the feeling of dirtiness off her? Her anger resurfacing with the memories of Fuu and Ken with their little trick; of her father with the bottled blonde-haired woman and her heart broke all over again that was the final shame for now she knew why Ken attacked her. Her father was everything Fuu said he was.
She sighed as she pulled her knees up to her chin and let her long hair flow around her in the water shielding her body. She began to concentrate on the silver haired youkai she met earlier why did he look at her like that? She didn't do anything to him for him to scowl at her, to show her so much hatred, why was he stuck in her mind and not the more adorable one named Shippo with his friendly smile and dancing mischievous green eyes.
Hotaru began to concentrate, how did she get here to begin with? How does she get back? Then she thought did she really want to go back? Was there anything to go back too?
`This is all moms fault, if she wasn't addicted to drugs my father wouldn't have done what he did, what he's been doing.'
She sunk deeper into the water holding her hands on her head as tears began to roll.
`No, he had a choice he's a man of the cloth a Buddhist, I hate them both…if they were better people I wouldn't have…I wouldn't be here sulking.'
She closed her eyes and kept thinking about her life and imagining other possibilities, wishing with all her might that she was somehow like the characters that she watched on television the ones with magical powers that can change her life, so that she can find happiness.
Hotaru then heard a noise and lost her concentration; she looked toward the screen and saw a mouse scuttering by. She sunk deeper into the tub following the rodent and having a panic attack at seeing the mouse. She figured if she stayed real quiet the mouse would leave and she could make her escape.

A woman no older than thirteen ran to the village healer with frightened eyes looking behind her several times she began to tell the woman what she saw.
“Mistress Naoko, the strange woman I saw her in the bath, I was leaving towels and putting more wood to the fire, she…well…she's not human mistress!”
The young girl said with a terrified whispered shriek. She kept trembling and looking around her to make sure that the girl she spoke ill of was no where in sight.
“Oh Saori, what are ye talking about?”
The young girl looked around her to make sure she was alone.
“The girl, the one that you think is a priestess, she's not normal mistress, she was in the water and her hair mistress was in the air flying around her but there was no wind mistress. The aura she had about her was evil, like a youkai's I tell you.”
“Saori, don't be absurd, she's a priestess she's purified the lizard demon, she is not a youkai.”
The older woman waved her off as she continued to place some crushed herbs into little paper pouches.
“But mistress Naoko, I saw her, she looked at me and her eyes were covered over in a lavender light.”
The girl than looked very scared as she continued in hushed tones.
“She spoke to me mistress…she said, she said she's home now. She said it so eerily I shudder just to think on it.”
“Stop this nonsense now girl, go home and don't tell anyone else these crazy tales. The rest of the village does not need to be frightened because of your stories.”
“But mistress…”
However, the village healer put up her hand to dismiss her. The young girl left the hut but turned one more time to look at the elder woman. She was skeptical, how can a human being possess powers as she had seen. The girl looked possessed in her opinion. She sighed and left the hut.
Naoko looked at the fire sitting before her as she thought about what the young healer in training saw. She felt the aura of this strange girl named Hotaru; she knew that she was different. The aura felt conflicted, but if this girl was a priestess like the great priestess Kagome, than how can she turn her away. She'll have to get to know the girl first before she made a decision.
