InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Between Darkness and Light ❯ The Calm Before the Storm ( Chapter 4 )
I've decided to keep using the word hanyou to describe Inuyasha since he is still half demon and half human. After all, vampires are demons.
Thank you so much for the reviews! I'll try to update as much as possible, just keep the reviews rolling.
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha

Chapter 4: The Calm Before The Storm
By Cataluna
She walked slowly through the dark alley, a crossbow readied in her hands. Two glowing eyes watched her every move from afar. Kagome paused and closed her eyes, trying to sense its location. `Right…THERE!' She shot at the creature. It evaded it. She fired again. This time it was not so lucky. "Yay, look Kaede, I killed it!" she squealed excitedly.
"Give the girl a prize," a sarcastic voice sneered from above.
Kagome looked up and spotted Inuyasha lounging lazily on one of the tree branches. "Are you spying on me?" she asked, her pulse racing.
"Wench, nobody gives a damn about you! I was just trying to sleep when I heard your ear-piercing voice." He sat up and glared down at her.
"Why you! Come down so I can kick your ass!" She yelled, while shaking her fist at him. `To think I actually thought he was cute? What was I thinking?'
Inuyasha snorted. "Judging from the way you fight, you wouldn't last one second against me," he responded smugly and closed his eyes, acting like he was going back to sleep.
"Get down!"
"No."
"Yes!"
"No."
"Fine! I'm coming up to get you. By the way, who sleeps in the tree during the night?" she snarled as she began to climb up the tree.
"Kagome!" Kaede said sternly, suspending brawl for a moment. "This is not the time or place to flirt."
Both Kagome and Inuyasha turned deep red at the comment. "He/She started it!" they replied at the same time.
Kaede rubbed her forehead. "I'm very tired, I'm going home now." Both were too busy shooting daggers at each other to notice her leaving.
"Hey girl…"
"WHAT!" she roared.
"You might want to turn around."
She turned without question to see a vampire running towards her at an incredible speed. Her legs seemed to be frozen in place, she closed her eyes and braced herself for the impact. But before he could reach her, she was suddenly sailing above the ground in Inuyasha's arms. They landed a few hundred feet away. "Let go of me!" struggling to get out of his hold.
"Gladly," he replied before dropping her on the ground with a thud.
"Ouch!" She glared at him pointedly while rubbing her sore hips.
He grabbed her crossbow, and killed the creature with precise accuracy. "Thanks," tossing the bow back to her. Inuyasha had the nerve to bow and smile arrogantly at her before walking away.
"Show off!"

~Back at Kaede's Place~
"So I guess you've met Inuyasha," Kaede said.
Kagome nodded. "The one and only. You know him?"
"He's rather infamous. How well do you know Inuyasha?"
"He rescued me a couple of times, that's about it. Oh and he's a jerk," she responded.
Kaede sighed. "Inuyasha is a hanyou. He's half vampire and half human."
"WHAT! Bu…bu…but, he saved me. He can't be a vampire." she stuttered. "How did he become a hanyou?"
"He was born a hanyou. His mother was a human and his father was a vampire. They somehow fell in love, which is highly unacceptable. Inuyasha is very strong. Fortunately, he's one of the good guys, he hunts vampires."

"So a new slayer has emerged and the hanyou is with her?" rubbing his chin thoughtfully.
"Yes, but she's still inexperienced. We should be able to finish her off with no trouble."
"No, it's too easy. I have exciting plans for this slayer." He chuckled, green eyes glowing. "Keep watching her."

`A hanyou.' Inuyasha's scowling face flashed through her mind. She was sitting under her favorite "thinking" tree eating lunch. `It must be so hard for him.' She touched the cross on her neck. All of the sudden, a figure jumped in front of her, nearly causing her to have a heart attack. Glaring, "You just love sneaking up on people, don't you, Inuyasha?"
He smirked, and folded his arms across red silk shirt. "You're not very observant, are you, Slayer?"
"And you're…," she stopped. `I will not lose my temper, I will not lose my temper…' she thought over and over again to herself. These arguments were so pointless and she was beginning to think that he was trying to make her mad on purpose. "Good bye, Inuyasha," she said through her teeth, and walked pass him with her nose in the air.
A bewildered look came upon Inuyasha's face. He was expecting to have at least a little fun by making her angry. "Oi! Where are you going?" he asked as he grabbed Kagome's hand.
A tingle traveled up her spine at the contact. She stared at the place where their skin were touching before locking eyes with him. They continued to gaze into each other's eyes for what seemed like an eternity. Finally she smiled, and held his hand.
A shocked look appeared on Inuyasha's face.
"Nowhere. You want to join me for lunch?"

He eyed suspiciously at the apple she had given him in his hand. `What is she up to? Why is she being so nice?' He turned to stare at the girl sitting beside him, trying to figure her out.
"Inuyasha," Kagome finally said, looking down at her hands. "Kaede told me about you being a hanyou."
Inuyasha fought the urge to punch through the tree. "That old hag should learn to mind her own business," he growled and turned sharply away from her. They sat there quietly, tension running thick between them.
"Because I'm a hanyou…I am scorned by both sides…My two halves are always at battle; one desiring to destroy mankind and the other wanting to protect them," he finallt said softly and laid down on the ground, looking solemnly up at the sky. "I've often wondered how my parents came together…how did a hunter learn to love its prey? My father was killed because other vampires did not approve of their relationship, much less its creation, me. They thought father had tainted the demon bloodline with the pathetic blood of a human."
A look of sadness came upon Kagome's face
"My mother, the only person who had accepted and cared for me, died a few years later from broken heart. I had vowed on my parents' graves that I would destroy the ones responsible."
He decided to leave out the part where he went on a complete rampage after her death. Although he was still a child, his strength was unbelievable. He killed a five or more vampires partly responsible for his father's death, before he was brought down by the one man he had sworn to kill. Left for dead, his sheer will to avenge his family kept him alive.
`Why did I tell her all this? I've never opened up to anyone before.' He finally looked over at her, expecting to see pity on her face. All he found was a smile. He sat up in surprise. "What the fuck are you so damn happy for?"
She reached out and gently squeezed his hand. "Thank you, Inuyasha, for sharing your story with me."
"Hmph," he turned away once again, but continued to hold hands with Kagome, smiling silently to himself.

Preview for my new story, Charade:
He continued to study her with his icy eyes, an aura of arrogance surrounds him. She held his gaze, refusing to be intimidated. "You're not from around here, are you?" He continued without waiting for her answer, "I have a deal for you." Her head snapped up.
"You will be given as a present to my half brother. If you are able to seduce him in two week, I will give you your freedom. If not, you will be taken back to the harem."
