A/N: Awe, guys . . . I feel all warm and fuzzy from all the great reviews I’m getting. You just don’t know how much that means to me being a first time fanfiction writer. I think my cherry has officially been popped (LOL). Anyway let me take this time to thank my readers (you get my creative juices flowing - mmm . . . lemon-lime juices*insert evil laugh*):

*Lady Silverfox - That’s really funny. Now that lemon scene has a soundtrack(*giggles*) and I’m glad you like it so far.
*SangoXMiroku132 - I didn’t cut them out, there’s still plenty of story left and trust me you’ll get your lemon(*smirks*).
*Mikokitty - Yeah, Kagome knows how to open up a can of whoop ass. But like I said before, I’m not a Kikyo hater, she just got the worst roll for this story.
*Wildthundakat - Hey, no operating of any equipment or machinery while reading the story(LOL) We can’t have my “favorite” reader injuring herself. I’m glad you liked the “device” scene. No one else mentioned that one. That’s one of my favs.
*Cwillia - Kagome laid the smackdown on her candy ass but she deserved it. (In this story, I mean). And don’t worry, I gotta smidge of what you need in this chappie*smiles*.

Ok Ladies and Gentleman, on with the story . . .

Chapter 8

Inuyasha woke up early Friday morning. He had some errands to run in preparation for the prom that evening. He decided he would have to pick up Miroku first. They both had to go to the same places, so he figured they could go together. They had to pick up their tuxedos and go to the florist shop to pick up the girl’s corsages. After that, they had to go make the last payment on the limo the rented to arrive at the prom in. Not to mention, that they still needed to shower and get dressed by 7:00pm, and as slow as these two were, they needed all the time they could get.

Kagome had a full day as well. She knew she wouldn’t make it to school for classes today, because she would be way to busy. She needed to get her hair and nails done, as well as prepare for the pre-prom send off her mom had planned. Mrs. Hiragashi had invited several of Kagome’s relatives, in addition to some of the family’s close personal friends, to see Kagome off before the prom. Kagome planned on going to get her hair and nails done with Sango, since they wouldn’t be riding to the prom together. Sango insisted on accompanying Kagome and Hojo to the prom, but Kagome didn’t want her to miss out in riding in the limo. Kagome would love to ride with them, but there was no way she was going to be in the same car as Kikyo. Hojo had opted to borrow his dad Hummer H3 to drive to the prom, which wasn’t bad at all. It just would have been more fun to ride with everyone else.

At 6:30, everyone was making their finishing touches before they would head to the prom. Kagome was at her house with her family and friends. Everyone was commenting on how beautiful they look together, as they were taking pictures. Kagome was wearing a beautiful red, strappy chiffon dress. It was fitted at the top and flared out at the bottom, like petals on a flower. It was adorned with sequins and beads that made it sparkle when the light hit it just right. She had her hair pinned up with a few loose curls cascading on the sides of her face, with little red and white flowers placed throughout her hair.

Hojo was wearing a black tux with a red cummerbund to match Kagome, with a red and white flower pinned to his jacket. Kagome had a matching red and white corsage for her wrist.
She also had on some red strappy heels with sequins and beads to match her dress. Kagome was a sight to see. And she had no makeup on, just some cherry lip gloss to add a shine to her lips. After the last of the pictures were taken, Kagome and Hojo were ready to head to the SUV and make their way to the prom.
_________________________________________________________________ ____________________________

Inuyasha and Miroku rode in the limo to pick up Sango first, because she lived the closest, followed by Kikyo and then Kouga and the rest. Sango wore a sapphire blue, strappy dress that was very similar to Kagome’s dress. She wore her hair pinned in a bun with blue and white flowers around the bun. Her shoes were blue strappy heels and she had a blue and white corsage to match. Miroku had on a black tux, with a blue cummerbund and blue and white flower pinned to his jacket to match Sango. Kikyo wore a pink strapless fitted silk dress that had a split on one side right up to her thigh. She had on matching pink heels and wore her hair down in big loose curls. Inuyasha however refused to wear pink and decided to wear an all black tux.

The limo ride was going well until Kikyo opened her big mouth.

“So Sango, where is your little friend?”

“You know good and well that there was no way she was riding in the limo with you in it. I’m actually starting to wish I hadn’t either.”

“Well, when you talk to that little freak of nature, you can tell her I’m not finished with her yet. Thanks to her I’m going to the prom with a broken nose.”

“I wish she could have finished rearranging your face. It’s a major improvement.”

“Yeah, well at least I’m not secretly in love with Kagome. Sometimes I think you two are a little ‘too’ close,” Kikyo giggled with her friends at her statement.

Just then Sango attempted to jump over Miroku to slug Kikyo, but Miroku pulled her down to his lap and kissed her to give her something to take her mind off Kikyo. She was definitely not thinking about Kikyo anymore.

“Damn Kikyo, can we just get to the prom without all the bullshit,” Inuyasha scolded.

“Whatever. I don’t know why your defending them. I’m your girlfriend. You should be on my side. Unless you prefer dumb sluts.”

“Kikyo, just chill the fuck out. I don’t feel like arguing with you right now. Besides, Sango and Kagome haven’t done anything to you.”

“It’s not Sango I’m worried about. It’s that Kagome bitch. She’s trying to take you from me.”

“How could you say that? She would never do that to you, even if you don’t get along now. You used to be her best friend.”

“Yeah, I ‘used’ to be her best friend. But I’ve moved onto bigger and better things. Just stop defending her, unless you really were with her that night.”

“Look , I’m not about to keep explaining myself to you Kikyo. I told you already. We didn’t do anything. She was at Miroku’s, and we had a conversation; end of story. If you can’t fucking trust me, then let me know. Otherwise, just shut the fuck up about it already,” Inuyasha said, highly pissed off as he crossed his arms.

Everyone got quiet, and Kikyo rolled her eyes, and finished talking with her friends. Miroku had never seen Inuyasha get this angry with Kikyo before. It shocked him to say the least. But once everyone had settled back down, having their separate conversations, the ride was mellow.

They finally arrived at the prom at about 7:30. The theme of the prom was a midnight garden theme. There were fake trees and flowers all around. At the far end of the room, there was a waterfall that ran into a large fountain. A large dance floor, with a light fog that swept across it, was set up right in the middle of the large ball room. It was like a tropical rain forest at night. It was a beautiful scene. Everyone went their separate ways, mingling with their other friends, when Sango noticed that Kagome had not made it there yet. Sango and Miroku decided to go find a seat at one of the tables and hold seats for their friends. Sango got bored just waiting at the table and took Miroku to the floor to dance. Everyone was out on the dance floor when Kagome and Hojo finally arrived.

Kagome’s entrance caused an unexpected stir at the door. A lot of gawking boys and their annoyed dates. She got a lot of attention, including Inuyasha’s. She was simply breathtaking. Inuyasha glanced at her from across the room as he was dancing with Kikyo. It’s a good thing she was turned the other way, because he couldn’t take his eyes off her.

‘Kami! She looks so amazing,’ Inuyasha thought to himself.

He knew she was a beautiful girl, but tonight she was absolutely stunning.

Sango noticed her friend as well and grabbed Miroku by the hand to rushed over to greet her.

“Hey, you guys finally made it,” Sango said excitedly.

“Wow. Kagome you look hot. Hojo, I think we are here with the hottest chicks at the prom. Don’t you agree?”, Miroku commented.

“Yes. You two do look beautiful,” Hojo replied.

Kagome and Sango just blushed.

“Thanks. You two don’t look too bad yourselves,” Kagome smiled at the two bishies.

The two couples walked out to the dance floor and started to dance. Kagome noticed Inuyasha looking at her, so she smiled and waved to him in response. Inuyasha gave her a smile and waved back to her. Kikyo lifted her head from his chest just in time to see him waving.

“Who are you waving to Inuyasha?”, Kikyo asked curiously.

Kikyo turned around to see Kagome and Hojo dancing. She also noticed that Kagome quickly turned away when Kikyo looked at her.

“Her! Why are you waving at her, when you’re here with me?” Kikyo asked with a frown on her face.

“Calm down, Kikyo. Kagome is my friend, so I was just saying hi. Stop being so jealous. Like you said, I’m here with you, aren’t I?”, he responded as he placed a soft kiss on her forehead and smiled, attempting to calm her down.

“Like I have anything to be jealous about. She’s a nobody. All I’m saying is I don’t like her.”

“Well you don’t like any of my friends. So what’s the big deal?”

“Never mind. It’s not a big deal. Just forget about it. I don’t want to fight with you tonight. I love you and I just want to have a good time.”

“Good. That’s all I want too, so play nice.”

There was a lot of dancing and picture taking, as well as some conversation at various tables. Especially at the table that Kikyo and her friends were sitting at. Kagome and Hojo sat at a different table, to avoid conflict at the other table, so Sango went over to hang with Kagome. Meanwhile, at the other table:

“I’ll be back sweetie. I need to go powder my nose,”Kikyo said as she gave Inuyasha a peck on the lips, as she got up to head to the bathroom.

She only did it to put on a show. She had been really affectionate the whole night, practically smothering Inuyasha. She usually wasn’t into public displays of affection, but she was laying it on thick, because she wanted to make a point to any girl, especially Kagome, that Inuyasha was hers.

Once Inuyasha and Miroku were alone at the table, Miroku spoke up.

“What’s up with Kikyo tonight? She’s been all over you. I’ve never known her to show you PDA before,” Miroku asked.

“Yeah, I know. She usually saves that type of thing for when were alone. I don’t know, I think she a little jealous about me waving to Kagome.”

“Should she be worried about Kagome?”, Miroku asked with one of his eyebrows raised.

“Of course not, she’s just a friend. I would never do anything to hurt Kikyo.”

Miroku looked at his friend with suspiciously.

“Yeah, well I’m just saying to be careful.”

“Don’t worry about Kikyo. I’ve got things under control,” Inuyasha said with a smirk.

When Kikyo came back from the bathroom, she asked Inuyasha to dance with her. There was a slow song playing, and that would give her the opportunity to continue her “show” and put Kagome in her place. Hojo and Kagome were already up dancing. Inuyasha noticed that Kagome was looking up from Hojo’s arm. She smiled at Inuyasha and he silently smiled back. She wanted so much to just go over and say hi, to him and talk like they had done before, but she knew he was with Kikyo and she didn’t want to cause a scene. I guess she would just have to settle for his smile. It was a smile that spoke more than words ever would. All of Kikyo’s work to get a rise out to Kagome wasn’t working like Kikyo had planned. Little did Kikyo know, Kagome only saw Inuyasha and he only saw her.

After the prom, there was a huge after party in the penthouse suite, on the top floor of the hotel. Kouga had rented the suite out for the weekend, and only people that were personally invited would be there. Of course, Inuyasha and Miroku were invited, as well as their dates. Kouga even invited Kagome personally, but she wasn’t sure she wanted to go.

“Please Kagome, I don’t want to go without you. You’re my best friend,” Sango pouted and bats her eyes.

“Now how can you resist that kawaii face. Besides Kouga personally invited you, so it’s not like your just tagging along,” Miroku commented.

“Fine. You win. I’ll go for a little while,” Kagome sighed.

Sango hugged her friend and grabbed her hand to pull her to the elevators, with Hojo and Miroku following close behind. When they got to the penthouse, it got really loud. The penthouse was a bustle with groups having conversations and couples dancing. There were people in the Jacuzzi and some in the kitchen area playing drinking games. There were people everywhere. Kagome was sitting on a couch next to Hojo, with Miroku and Sango sitting next to them. Just as they were sitting, and deep in conversation, Inuyasha and Kikyo walked up.

‘Oh crap! Here we go . . .’, Sango thought to herself. She knew once Kikyo saw Kagome, that it would be all over.

But to Sango’s surprise, Kikyo didn’t say a word. She just sat in Inuyasha’s lap. All snuggled up against him, sneaking kisses every once in a while. It was sickening. But she didn’t say a thing. No comment, no complaining and no arguing. Sango looked at Kagome and noticed how she was trying to avoid eye contact with Inuyasha and the show that Kikyo was putting on.

‘She must be up to something, because this is so not like Kikyo. She would never miss the opportunity to mess with Kagome. Unless what she is doing is meant to mess with Kagome,’ Sango thought as she noticed how uncomfortable Kagome seemed, even though she was trying hard to hide it. But Sango was her best friend, and if nobody else notices, she would. Kikyo’s actions were finally getting to Kagome.

“I’m going to get something to drink. Does anybody else want something?”, Kikyo finally spoke, as she got up to head to the kitchen area.

Inuyasha, Miroku, and Hojo said yes, but the girls didn’t trust Kikyo to get them anything. So Hojo got up to accompany Kikyo and bring back something for Sango and Kagome. When they came back, everyone was laughing and having a good time. Even Kikyo did as Inuyasha asked and played nice with everyone. After a few drinks, Hojo started to feel sick and ran to the bathroom. Hojo wasn’t the type to drink and obviously, couldn’t hold his liquor. He was drunk and sick to his stomach.

“I told him he shouldn’t drink so fast. He had like five cups of whatever it was he was drinking. I think I should go check on him,” Kagome said as she left the group and found her way to the bathroom. When she got there, Hojo was still in the bathroom, sitting on the floor next to the toilet with his arm and head resting on the seat. Miroku and Sango walked up behind Kagome, who was standing in the doorway.

“Man Kagome, Hojo doesn’t look so good,” Miroku observed Hojo slumped over the toilet.

“You’re right. I don’t think he’s ever had that much to drink before. Obviously, he should never drink like that again,” Kagome replied.

“And he can’t go home like that. His dad will kill him,” Sango stated as she pointed at him to make her reason clear. He was a mess.

“We can take him to one of the rooms and he can sleep it off. I’ll go ask Kouga. I’m sure he won’t mind,” Miroku suggested.

“Arigato Miroku. He would never make it home. He’s practically passed out,” Kagome couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of him, holding on for dear life, to the toilet, eyes half closed.

Miroku and the girls helped Hojo up to carry him to one of the extra room to sleep. Then Miroku informed Kouga, who said it was fine with him if Hojo stayed to sober up.

“That’s just great, now how am I supposed to get back home. I don’t want to just take his dad’s car,” Kagome said as she walked back to join the group, plopping down on the couch.

“You could just ride back with us,” Inuyasha insisted.

This was the first time, all night, that Inuyasha spoke to her. She looked around waiting for Kikyo to comment, but she wasn’t there.

“Uh, thanks Inuyasha, but where did Kikyo go?” She said puzzled.

“Well, one of her friends accidentally “blew chunks” on her dress. She freaked out and left with them.”

“I guess Hojo wasn’t the only one who couldn’t hold their liquor. Is she coming back?”, Miroku laughed.

“No. I told her I was going to wait for you all to come back and then we would be leaving too,” Inuyasha answered.

“So we’re leaving?”, Sango asked.

“Yeah, I’m getting a headache. This music is way too loud,” Inuyasha replied.
______________________________________________________________ ________________________________

They got up and filed out of the penthouse, into the elevator, and out of the hotel. With most of the others staying over night at the penthouse, Miroku, Sango, Inuyasha, and Kagome were the only ones left in the limo. The ride was quiet the whole way, until they reached Miroku’s.

“So, this is my stop. Kagome, it was nice seeing you,” Miroku grabbed her hand to kiss it.

“Bye Miroku,” she replied.

“Inuyasha, are you staying tonight,” Miroku asked his best friend, really hoping he would say no because he had other plans.

“Nah. I gotta go somewhere with Sesshomaru tomorrow, so I better go to the estate tonight.”

“I’ll catch you later then. How about you my koi? Will you be joining me this evening?”, Miroku addressed Sango with a devilish grin.

She blushed. “Well, I don’t know . . . ,” Sango said looking at Kagome.

“Go Sango. I’m fine. Inuyasha’s still here,” Kagome answered her friend’s silent question.

“Yeah. I keep her company until she gets home,” Inuyasha said with a smile.

“Alright then, I’ll see you two later,” Sango said climbing out of the car after Miroku.

Now it was just Kagome and Inuyasha.

“So, you look really beautiful tonight,” Inuyasha complemented Kagome, finding the floor of the limo very interesting at the time.

“Thank you, Inuyasha. That’s very nice of you to say,” Kagome finding the scenery out the window just as interesting.

“Well I’m only telling you the truth.”

“So, did you and Kikyo make up?”, Kagome asked wanting to know more for herself than for Inuyasha’s sake. It had been eating at her how Kikyo was all over Inuyasha all night. She knew it shouldn’t bother her, Kikyo is his girlfriend, but it did none the less.

“Yeah, I guess you could say that.”

“Oh, where are my manners. I didn’t tell you how amazing you look in your tux. Black is a good look for you,” Kagome smiled, finally looking up at him.

“Keh, thanks.”

Kagome’s house wasn’t as far as the estate, so the next stop was Kagome’s.

“Well, this is me,” Kagome looked out the window at her house.

“Can I walk you to the door?”, Inuyasha asked hoping she would say yes.

“You don’t have to if you don’t want to.”

“Just let me walk you to the door wench,” Inuyasha huffed.

‘That was real smooth, jackass. You’re supposed to be nice to her.

“Fine. You don’t have to be pushy about it,” Kagome said sliding across the seat to get out behind Inuyasha.

‘Remember, be nice,’ he said to himself.

Inuyasha held out his hand to help Kagome out of the limo.

“Thank you,” she said hesitantly.

‘One minute he’s a complete jerk, the next minute he’s a total gentleman,’ she thought to herself.
______________________________________________________________ _____________________________________

They walked to the door and Kagome dug in her purse and looked for her keys to unlock the door.

“Well I guess I’ll see you later,” Kagome said as she stepped across the threshold into the house.

She turned around to look at Inuyasha and he was standing right in front of her. It startled her and she jumped right into his arms.

“Hey, don’t sneak up on me like that. You scared me,” she said, her heart beating faster, as she realized she was still in Inuyasha’s arms.

“Gomen, I didn’t mean to scare you. I was just trying to give you a hug, you know, ‘I’m not a guy, Inuyasha - you don’t shake my hand, you hug me’,” he said in a high pitched voice, mocking the way Kagome talks.

She smiled and giggled, then playfully hit him in the chest with one of the hands she had been resting there.

‘She is so cute when she giggles like that’, he thought.

He watched her as her giggle faded, looking at him with that smile he likes so much.

“You’re so, kirei na,” he said so softly, that she almost didn’t hear him.

He slowly reached up to cup her face in his hands.

“Inuyasha . . . ,” Kagome whispered as she melted into his hands.

Inuyasha slowly closed the space between them, as he leaned in to kiss Kagome softly on the lips, barely grazing them. Her heart sped up and he could smell her arousal. He knew he had to kiss her again. Her scent was driving him crazy. He kissed her again, only this time, it was more. She parted her lips slightly, as he took the invitation to explore her mouth with his tongue. They were swept away in the passion of the kiss, forgetting everything, only living for the moment. They stumbled around the living room, until they found themselves in the kitchen, still kissing passionately. Inuyasha lifted Kagome up and sat her on the kitchen table, never breaking their kiss. He pushed her dress up to gently caress her thighs, rubbing up and down the sides. She let out a small moan, as he moved his hand around to the back of her, pulling her closer. She could feel his throbbing manhood against her core, as she wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him even closer. He broke the kiss, feverishly kissing her neck, causing her to through her head back and arch into his attention. This was far better than anything she could ever fantasize about, or ever dream of.

‘Oh my god! I can’t believe this is actually happening. This feels . . . so . . . good. I want him so bad. But this isn’t right. I don’t give a shit about Kikyo’s feeling but what about Hojo. I can’t do this to him. He’s laying in a bed drunk and sick to his stomach while I’m making out with Inuyasha. As much as I want this, I’ve gotta stop.’

“Inuyasha, please . . . ,” she panted, trying to find her voice and catch her breath.

“Please, what Kagome?”, he whispered into her ear, making this even harder for her than it already was.

“Please . . . stop. We can’t do this,” she said pushing him with one hand and easing down off the table with the other, her dress falling back down to her feet.

“But Kagome, I . . . ,” Inuyasha tried to speak, but Kagome put her finger to his lips to silence him.

“You know we can’t do this, any of this. It’s not right. I don’t want to hurt anyone. I’m sorry,” she said as she held back the tears welling up in her eyes.

“Please don’t cry Kagome,” he said with concern, wiping one stray tear from her face.

“Inuyasha, I think you should leave now,” she said as she pushed him toward the door, opening it and pushing him out the door.

She closed the door and fell to the floor crying.
_______________________________________________________________ __________________________________

Inuyasha, still half confused, but half understanding why she stopped them, walked back to the limo, with his head hanging low. He felt so bad. He probably messed up the one relationship that wasn’t based on sex, money, or how hot she was. He was really starting to feel something for Kagome that he has never felt for any other girl he’s ever met, and now it may all be over just as quick as it started.

‘I wanted her and she wanted me, so what went wrong? I know that Kikyo and Hojo don’t deserve to be hurt, but these feelings I have for Kagome mean something. I don’t want to ignore them. Maybe she doesn’t feel the same way. Maybe she just wanted me, and that’s it. Maybe it didn’t mean anything to her.’

He crawled into the back seat and laid there on his back, defeated, hoping that they could get things back the way they were. He would hate to lose her friendship over something they couldn’t control.

_________________________________________________________ ______________________________________

Kagome pulled herself together, and slowly made her way up the stairs to her bedroom. She ran to her bed and jumped into it, crying into her pillow.

‘I’m so confused. I don’t know what to do now. I wanted it to happen, but I wasn’t thinking about the others that would be hurt because of my feeling for Inuyasha. How do I even know that Inuyasha feels anything but lust for me? He’s been with other girls, and it was only about the sex. He has told me. So how do I know I wouldn’t be another notch on his bedpost? I know that I have feeling for him, but does he have any real feelings for me? I’m not gonna risk what I have with someone who has actually told me how he feels about me, for what could or could not be. I just don’t know what to do’, she thought to herself as she continued to cry until she drifted, off crying herself to sleep.

A/N: This is definitely one of my longest chapters because I wanted the whole prom day to fit into one chapter. Oh, what a tangle web we weave. This chapter was originally supposed to be PG, but me, wanting to give the readers what they want, *smiles* decided to make it PG-13, but the outcome is still the same as the original (but then again, it was only a chaste kiss in the original, not a hot and heavy make out session on the kitchen table). So *Cwillia, this lime was dedicated to you. Oh, and don’t worry*SangoXMiroku132, I’ll hook you up with your lemon soon. I think I have a part in mind, that would be perfect for “that” lemon. Just be patient.

Kami - Gods
bishie - abbreviation for “bishonen”, which means pretty boy
kawaii - cute
Arigato - Thank you
koi - girlfriend
Gomen - Sorry
kirei na - beautiful

I apologize if my translations are incorrect. I do not speak Japanese.
