InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Between Two Worlds ❯ Alir and Canta ( Chapter 1 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Whenever a leaf falls off a tree does it not fly in the wind before resting against the ground? When a person hurts themselves do they not cringe in pain for a while before it gets better?
Many things happen in the universe that one could not understand, but does that not make us curious as to why things happen?
---(*&*)---
Laughing quietly to herself, a woman tilted her head back against the rough bark of a tree as she smiled.
This stuff is total crap… true, but crap. The woman crumbled up the newspaper that had been resting against her lap before turning it to dust from her spiritual powers.
The women stood, sighing as she brushed the dirt off of her jeans that had collected at her butt from sitting on the ground. So what if we don't understand the universe? It's not like we need to know stuff other than the worlds we live in… Her hair began to fly as the wind picked up, the midnight black strands tickling her cheeks as she watched a bird fly overhead.
Letting a small smile show, she walked away from the tree that spoke to her everyday when she took her lunch break. She would first hear murmurs when she began to approach, but once she was in range of its shade she would hear the voice perfectly.
She would speak to it everyday, that one voice which seemed so close would make her wonder how close it actually was.
You're leaving? It spoke.
“Yes, my break is over and I must be getting back to the town, it needs me.”
She heard a sigh as she turned back around to gaze at the tree. A small light began to show before a man appeared, leaning against the tree. I guess I must be going too. I can only talk to you for a certain amount of time before my power is drained.
She nodded as she began to walk towards him. She couldn't see his face or what he actually looked like but she could tell just by the aura coming off of him that he was beautiful. “If only I could see you.”
She saw him nod, I can't see you either… just a shadow.
She made an amused sound in her throat before sighing again. “Goodbye…”
Talk tomorrow?
Laughing, Kagome smiled. “Talk to you tomorrow.”
As Kagome began to walk towards her green motorcycle, she could feel the aura of the man behind her fading before dissipating all together. If only I knew who you were… Jumping onto her motorcycle, she smiled as she put on her helmet. I could tell you…
It would take about 10 minutes to get back to Ean, her home town. Usually in a regular car it would take an hour, but her bike was special, it could go 150 miles an hour with out going out of control. I thank Sango for making this. I can go at least 20 miles away from Ean and go back in a little over 5 minutes.
Kagome revved the engine before taking off, her hair flapping behind her. Dust filled the air as she went faster on the road that was in the middle of the grassy plain. If only I could see you…
---(*&*)---
Smoke began to rise from an engine as a woman that was working on it growled. I swear this thing hates me, turning around to glare at her boyfriend, Sango growled. “What did you do to it?”
Noticing the venom in her voice, the man put his hands up in defense. “Now my dear Sango, I did exactly what you said, I…“ Miroku paused in his talking once he saw the twinkle in Sango's eye which meant talk or die. “B-baby… now I swear I took out the motor ring and inserted the bolt right where I was supposed too.”
“Well,” Flipping her pony tail behind her, Sango put her hands on her hips; her right hand clenching the wrench she held. “If you had done that would it be smoking?”
Miroku began to back up once he saw Sango tapping her foot.
“Miroku…” He gulped as he gripped the table behind him; he knew it was coming.
Just before she was about to throw her wrench at him, Kagome came through the door with her helmet resting against her hip. “What's up guys?”
Ducking, Miroku covered his head with his arms as the wrench was thrown.
“This… idiot didn't do what I told him too!”
Looking to her left, Kagome faintly heard Miroku say `but I did' as he hid behind a hover cruiser.
Sango continued as she wiped her face free of the grease that had gotten on her with the cloth that had been hooked into her pants, “Instead of unhooking the motor ring he unhooked the trigger wheel-“
“Which looks just like it,” Miroku said quietly behind the hover cruiser.
“-And installed the bolt in the wrong place!” Sango threw the cloth his way before sighing and turning back around to right Miroku's wrong.
Kagome laughed at the two; every time Sango asked Miroku to do something for her (when it came to machines) he would get something wrong, and or destroy it. “You know this always happens, Sango. Maybe you should just get your apprentice to do it whenever you have to make a house call for the president.”
She heard Sango scoff once she said the word apprentice, “He may know machines better than Miroku,” she said as she got on her back under the engine. “But I swear that kid tries to mess up.”
“Why?” Miroku asked as he finally stood, knowing Sango wouldn't attack him again.
Both Miroku and Kagome heard her make a sound in her throat that vaguely sounded like `I don't know' as she stood.
Kagome smiled; same old, same old. “Hey Miroku, do you have the new equipment?”
“For the jewel?” Kagome nodded. “Yeah, it's in my car.”
Watching Miroku begin to walk away from the hover cruiser, Kagome followed him out of Sango's shop after saying good bye to her friend.
Idiot… he knows nothing outside of his friends, family, toys and me. Sango smirked as she wiped her brow with her back hand. But that's why I love him.
---(*&*)---
Opening the door to his car, Miroku sat inside and fumbled around the back for a bit before getting what he wanted. “Came in late last night… it doin' security services?”
Nodding, Kagome took it from Miroku's hands. “Yeah, it's going to be right under the jewel and if it feels any spiritual powers, demon aura's or even a heart beat that's similar to a human's it will go off and tankers will be there in seconds. Of course I'm an exception.”
Miroku let his head fall back against the head rest. “I can't even imagine the training the tankers have to go through. What you went through…”
It wasn't that bad… my spiritual power helped me through it. Kagome smiled, he also helped me through it. “I got through it and now I am the overall caretaker of the jewel. I can take care of myself.”
“I know you can,” Miroku got out of his car and shut the door as Kagome smiled. “I remember that one time, no, the only time a demon from Canta tried to get the jewel.” Laughing Miroku patted Kagome's shoulder. “You beat him to a bloody pulp before tankers even got there.”
Sighing through her nose, Kagome remembered what the life of a tanker was like. They were soldiers that protected her world, Alir. The capital city, Ean, held the most powerful thing in the world, the Shikon no Tama, a tanker's life was to protect the world of Alir and make sure no demon got close to it.
“I heard in the news that the demon planet, Canta has decided a truce between our two worlds in order to help trade and economies.”
Looking at Miroku's face, Kagome could tell that he was worried. “Nothing is going to happen, Miroku. If the truce does come then that means tankers are no longer needed. We can finally be at peace.”
Waving to someone he knew, Miroku leaned against his car with his arms folded. “I hope your right… will you be joining the president during the time he meets with the demon presidents?”
“I am but Canta, the world itself is at war, they are trying to decide who the true president should be.” Kagome pinched the bridge of her nose. “There's President Naraku of the Eastern part of the world and President Inu No Taisho of the West. If Naraku is president… well, we all know what will happen.”
Miroku began to head back into Sango's shop once he saw his girlfriend in the window. “Hopefully the Western president will win.”
Kagome nodded. “Hopefully…”
---(*&*)---
Everyone on the world Canta knew that the President of the Eastern Hemisphere was an evil Dictator. Naraku, the president, didn't let anyone other than traders leave his domain; though trade was horrible on Canta. Naraku didn't let trade happen if it wasn't something he wanted or something that meant between life and death for his civilians.
Little over half of the population had moved to the Western Hemisphere once Naraku had taken office. Inu No Taisho was a peaceful president but Naraku made it hard for him to rule when it came the matter of how will the world hold out if they kept going on like this.
Currently, Inu No Taisho had gotten his two sons, Sesshomaru and Inuyasha to control the Eastern and Western Borders of his country. Sesshomaru the East and Inuyasha the West, in most ways they were like the governor's of their own parts of the country.
What was the worst part was that Naraku had gathered an army, one so evil that made the news of Alir, the human world, everyday. The army killed and raped anyone that didn't listen to the horrific laws Naraku made or even said the names, Inu No Taisho, Sesshomaru, or Inuyasha.
Reading the history of the last 10 years of his own planet, Inuyasha growled. This had gotten too far; they needed to make a truce with Alir if their world ever hoped to survive. Unlike Alir which was rich and beautiful, Canta was half a wonderful place to live (with the slight worry their country would be taken over) and half horrid.
Inuyasha closed the book he had been reading and shoved it under his desk. Everything's been a little too quiet so far. Naraku has to be planning something. Standing, Inuyasha walked away from his desk and towards the balcony that was on the other side of the room. We have to kill Naraku before the meeting with Alir's president next month… Closing his eyes, Inuyasha rested his arms against the railing. Or else the truce will never happen.
