Chapter Three
~~~~~~~
Glinting gold eyes peered at Momi through the dark, watching her chest rise and fall slowly. Inuyasha crept nearer to the sleeping girl, his eyes searching her face for a reason…. Ever since he had bitten her, his thoughts were plagued by her. He had tried feeding on another girl earlier and had not bitten when given the chance. He had been scolded by Shippo for it, too, as it was dangerous to give up meals like that. For a half demon, power had to be renewed before their night as a human. Inuyasha had to renew his power once a month because he barely ever used any of his powers besides his sense of hearing, and even then he did not use it regularly, as the bustle of the city could be deafening.
“How long are you going to stare at me, Taisho-san?” asked Momi, not opening her eyes. Inuyasha gave a start and jumped back slightly, half expecting the redhead to lash out at him.
“Uhhh…” said Inu stupidly, blinking slightly. “Well… I…” Momi laughed and sat up, patting Inuyasha on the head and she felt…
“DOG EARS?!” she screeched, pulling her hands away. “Then Suki-chan was right! Oh my god… And they were soft….” Momi sat up on her knees and played with Inuyasha’s ears, rubbing them gently. Inuyasha looked like he’d growl at first, but let his face relax, a content purring sound rumbling from his chest. Momi giggled and kept playing with them, her fingers stroking the soft skin and fur. A whimper passed Inuyasha’s parted lips as Momi pulled away.
“Why did you bite me?” she asked, her expression almost pleading.
“Well… Damnit, didn’t Bankotsu or Li or someone answer this already?” he asked nervously. Much to Inuyasha’s surprise and delight, Momi’s face broke out in a huge grin and before he knew what was going on, he had Momi’s arms around his neck and her warm body pressed against him. His face turned bright red and he laughed a bit, the light sound soon silenced by a scream that shook the entire house.
“Suki-chan!” cried Aki, pushing Bankotsu off of her bed and running to the girl’s room. She found the young woman tossing and turning in her bed, her whole body drenched in cold sweat, tears flowing freely from her closed eyes. Soon enough, she was joined by Bankotsu, Himeko, Momi, Jakotsu, and to everyone but Momi’s surprise, Inuyasha. They all stood and watched as Suki whimpered and cried out until Momi stepped forward and hugged her close, crooning over her, soothing words flowing from her lips. Inuyasha smiled as she unconsciously let her powers surround the woman-child, calming her to the point of just hiccupping once in a while as she woke.
“Li-oneechan is hurt,” she gasped, crying. Momi rubbed her back gently and Inuyasha shifted at hearing the name.
“I don’t doubt it… Her boss is anally retentive. If shit doesn’t go exactly right he blows up. He’s known in the business world for throwing tantrums and having an excess of money to invest in whatever the fuck he wants,” growled Inuyasha softly, his brow furrowed. “Li came for you and let you go, right?” he asked, looking to Suki.
“Actually… I sort of stabbed her with the Novocain thing...” said Suki with a hint of embarrassment. Inuyasha laughed bitterly and sighed.
“Then she’s probably a bloody chunk of flesh right now… Her scent still lingers here. She stayed till earlier today, didn’t she?”
“Then it’s my fault..?” choked Suki, whimpering, her face twisted with worry.
“Iie. She would have been punished for failing anyway; and if you had gone with her, you would be dead right now, most likely,” he said in an attempt to comfort the girl somewhat. Suki sat up straight and growled.
“What is going on here?! Why is all this stuff happening! First Li and them tell us that Momi-oneechan is an elf, Li-oneechan proves that she is a hanyou, and then you show up! And you know what else?! I’m seeing things, apparently, as you have ears and Shippo definitely had a tail!” she screamed in distress. “Before yesterday I didn’t even know demons and shit existed!” Suki was annoyed and more than frightened at what was going on. Everything inside her screamed that she shouldn’t be there and that she should get back to the US as soon as possible, but she had waited for this for years and she sure as hell wasn’t going to pass it up now.
“Suki, we don’t know what is happening really, only that we’re demons/half demons and we have been living in secret for years. The fact that you can see through our spells is unnerving, and perhaps Yamata Shiinha has seen it too. He, unlike myself, is a full youkai. We don’t know where he’s from or anything: just that he has Li, Koga, and a couple other people working for him, two of whom, Jakotsu and Bankotsu, are in the room at the moment.
“But what’s with the light show every time I feel that a demon thingy is nearby?” she asked, pouting.
“Uh… Sesshoumaru isn’t sure yet, but we think that you have miko powers,” he said slowly, gauging the girls reaction. Momi looked even more confused, along with Himeko and Aki.
“Soo… If Suki’s a ‘miko,’ then what is Momi-kun?” asked Aki, thoroughly lost.
“She’s an elf. An elemental elf, by the looks of it,” said Inuyasha, a smile lighting up his boyish face.
“Is that good?” asked Himeko, sitting with her legs crossed on the floor.
“That all depends on what Momi thinks of it. What I want to know is how the fuck she didn’t think something was up before now… Didn’t you notice anything weird when you were growing up? Aren’t your parents elves?” he asked incredulously. Everyone in the room shifted awkwardly and Suki made a gesture as if to punch Inu.
“Well… My parents haven’t been around in quite some time, Inuyasha. My dad is who knows where, and my momma died in an accident when I was little… But no, before then I didn’t notice anything. I knew everyone in my family had funny looking ears, but that’s just hereditary stuff, right?” she said, uncertain. “Either way… COOOL I’M AN ELF!” she cried in excitement, jumping up and down. Himeko and Aki laughed and gave Momi hugs while Suki stared at her toes, thinking about Li.
“She was screaming… It felt like my head was going to split in two…” she whispered softly, tears rolling over her cheeks.
“Hush… It’s ok. It was probably just a dream. I mean, why would you trust the bakayarou over there?” she asked, ticking her ribs. Suki looked thoughtful for a moment before smiling.
“Anyway, why are you here, Asha-chan??” asked Jakotsu, smiling up at the tall hanyou. Inuyasha cringed and shuddered at the name.
“My name is Inuyasha, shit head, and don’t forget it!” he shouted, rounding on the pretty boy. Jakotsu pouted and flipped on the light to better see the boy he so enjoyed tormenting.
“But Asha-CHAN, you’re just too cute!” he chimed happily, watching with much amusement as Inuyasha’s face twisted into a grimace and then a look of utter disgust. His ears flattened to the top of his silver head as he decided to ignore the insistent and very annoying Jakotsu. Suki and Momi giggled and Momi patted Inuyasha’s arm gently to calm him. He smiled down at her gently and then glared at Jakotsu defiantly. Jakotsu didn’t miss the gentle caress.
“Ooo… Momi-kun, why is ASHA-CHAN so agreeable towards you?” he asked, whining slightly. Momi turned bright red and stuttered some muttered explanation and Suki laughed, unaware of the current situation they were in.
“I bet he like Momi-kun! He was awfully nice to her at Taisho Corp too!” she chirped, rocking back and forth on her bed. Inuyasha unconsciously slid behind Momi, ducking down for the oncoming tussle. To his surprise, however, it didn’t come. He looked up to see Jakotsu’s eyes narrowed and his painted lips curled back in a snarl as he stared down at Momi.
“You… seduced… ASHA-CHAN!?” he screamed, reaching down to throttle Momi. Aki and Suki reacted the fastest, wrapping their fingers around Jakotsu’s wrists to keep him from reaching her.
“Jakotsu! Stop, now!” shouted Aki, her eyes flashing amethyst. Suki’s fingers dug into the man’s arm as he struggled to strangle Momi. A deep growl erupted from Inuyasha’s chest while Suki’s eyes lit up, fading from dark brown to electrifying blue, her piercing eyes becoming glazed with silver as she continued to cling to Jakotsu. He let out an ear-splitting shriek as a blue-white glow surrounded both Aki and Suki, combining and taking on a blinding luminescence. Inuyasha stopped growling and pulled Suki and Aki away forcefully, slamming them to the floor. Jakotsu collapsed, unconscious, and the smell of burning flesh filled the room. Suki sat up groggily. Momi was too confused to say anything, although the numbness of her mind was slowly fading as she realized that Inuyasha had just thrown two of her best friends to the ground. Aki was looking around in surprise, and Jakotsu was whimpering in his sleep, his forearms smoking.
“What… happened?” whimpered Suki, staring at her hands before looking over at the trembling body in the center of the room.
“That is your miko power, Suki,” growled Inuyasha, rubbing his hands together. Himeko helped her friends to their feet and nudged Jakotsu with her foot. Aki started crying and wrapped her arms around Jakotsu’s shoulders. Inuyasha was cursing under his breath as he pulled out his red Sanyo flip phone. He pressed a speed dial and soon he could be heard speaking very quickly to someone, fluent curse words flowing from his lips. He hung up and growled, punching the wall, leaving a hole in it. Himeko turned on him angrily, her gaze accusing.
“YOU’RE GOING TO PAY FOR THAT!” she shouted, pissed off that people kept maiming her beautiful house.
“Fine, bitch! Just shut up until Sesshoumaru gets here!” he growled, resisting the urge to strike out at her as Momi was already pissed at him.
“Sesshoumaru-sama is coming..?” asked Suki uncertainly, her cheeks taking on a rosy blush.
“Hai. I told him about you and Aki and he wants to come down and take a look at you two,” he said, rubbing his temples.
“You still haven’t said why you’re here,” said Momi softly, looking up at Inuyasha.
“I came on Sesshoumaru’s orders. Koga showed up randomly saying that he wanted out of the group he was in… He said that we should keep an eye on you four,” he said slowly, not meeting anyone’s eyes. Momi caught the nervous look and tugged on his shirt.
“Inuyasha… What does Sesshoumaru really want?” she asked, looking unsure.
“Suki over there knows more than she should… Shippo was injured recently by an unknown force. Before that, we were having trouble getting arms shipments. It has recently been discovered that a local yakuza, the one to which Bankotsu and Jakotsu once belonged, has been gaining quite a few weapons from an unnamed source. It is our suspicion that they raided the warehouses containing our merchandise before it ever reached Tokyo harbor. The leader of this group is named Yamata Shiinha and he is a demon. He is known to be the long time companion and lover of Lin-we, a hanyou mercenary with no history. The fact that Suki can see and know these people without really meeting them disturbs us,” he said, taking a seat near the shoji leading out to the balcony.
“But what’s that got to do with Sesshoumaru-sama?” asked Aki, still cradling her baby brother’s head.
“… We think that you four may be the root of a sort of mystery that’s never been solved. I’m almost 700 years old now and Sesshoumaru is over 1000 years old. About 520 years ago, a young woman came through the bone-eater’s well and woke me up from a 50 year sleep. This girl possessed the greatest and most powerful miko abilities since the creator of the Shikon Jewel, Midoriko. We fought alongside each other with some other friends, Shippo being one of them, but when the final battle came against our worst enemy… She just disappeared. I came back here looking for her, but when I found her, she couldn’t even remember my name,” whispered Inuyasha. Momi stroked his back gently and Suki thanked Kami that Jakotsu hadn’t woken yet.
“Wait… what’s a Midoriko and what’s a Shikon no Tama?” asked Suki. A deep, cold voice cut through the air like a sharp knife, bringing everyone to look behind Inuyasha, whose shadow now contained a pair of golden eyes.
“Jewel of Four Souls… and the four souls reside in you women, by my hypothesis. After the final battle, Kagome reunited the pieces of the jewel and was promptly taken away from our time. When Inuyasha found her she was unaware of her journeys with him and had forgotten everything of the jewel. Inuyasha could sense it residing inside her, however. I believe that when she died the year before last, she unconsciously made a wish on the jewel and asked that it be preserved in a way that no one would be able to use it again. I think she wished for it to be split and totally integrated with its hosts. I think that you four are those hosts,” he said smoothly, surveying the girls.
“So… Aki-oneechan and me aren’t the only ones with the glowy thingies?” asked Suki.
“Hai. And Stop calling it the ‘glowy thing!’” growled Inuyasha, “they’re miko powers. Please stop misnaming it.”
“Whatever… Sesshoumaru-sama, what’re you getting at?” asked Himeko cautiously, tempted to yell at the pompous demon till he left.
“Aramitama, Nigimitama, Kushimitama, and Sakimitama, or Courage, Friendship, Wisdom, and Love. These are the four souls said to be housed in the Shikon no Tama. I believe that each of these ‘souls,’ have housed themselves within you four. I’ve yet to deduce which resides in any of you, besides Himeko-san, who I believe to be Kushimitama,” he said icily, as if annoyed at having to explain. “When all souls are united, they create a form of powerful balance that can be used for good or evil. Shiinha thinks to make himself invincible. He wishes to have immortality. In a word, he wants to be a god. If he could find a method to extract your powers and recreate the jewel, this could be accomplished. This is why I think it is best that you four are split up.” His words, this time, were met with incredulity and anger.
“We’ve waited forever to be able to live together without worrying about parents or rules or pain in general! Now you’re saying we can’t even stay in the same house, a house we bought together!? We can’t work together when we share a company?!” grated Momi, her hands clenching into fists. Inuyasha put a comforting arm around her shoulder.
“It’s only for your safety as well as everyone else’s. It’ll only be for now… Just until your new building is set up and modified slightly,” he said softly, rubbing Momi’s back and nuzzling the puncture marks at her throat affectionately. “I’ll be staying with you. I promise you won’t get too lonely…” Momi turned bright red and Sesshoumaru looked away although his face remained a mask of stoicism.
“Bankotsu.”
“Hai, Sesshoumaru-sama?” Bankotsu dropped to one knee, standing slightly in front of Aki.
“You will take Aki and Bankotsu to Kyoto. Please stay there until further notice,” said the ice prince before Bankotsu disappeared along with Aki and her brother, leaving a shocked and annoyed Momi behind. “Himeko-san, as you do not have any staff of any sort as of yet in this house, you will be staying with Koga. He will be arriving in about an hour. Momigi-san, you will be with Inuyasha… As for you, Nakashima…” he said, looking down at Suki with a strange gaze. “You will be staying with me, I think… Yes, you shall provide ample entertainment for my grandchildren. Perhaps the job will whip a sense of responsibility into you,” he said disdainfully. Momi looked ready to punch him but Inuyasha kissed his mark, sending her into a state of shivery bliss. Himeko sighed and went upstairs to get Suki’s and Momi’s things.
‘Damn woman… This Sesshoumaru will surely regret this. Oh yes, these next few weeks are going to be hell. I despise ningen women like her,’ thought Sesshoumaru, his lids closing over his amber eyes. He opened them to find the woman-child staring up at him innocently as he took in a breath of what he hoped would be soothing air, but a groan soon passed his lips. ‘Hell… Absolute hell. The Kami must be against me. Why is it now that the little devil must be in heat?’
“Sesshoumaru-sama… Are you really old enough to be a grandpa??” asked Suki, pressing up against him while she stood on tiptoe, examining his features for wrinkles or any other trait to betray his age.
“Yes, fool! You offend this Sesshoumaru with your scent. Step away!” he snarled, bringing tears to the girl’s eyes. He growled again at the salty smell of them, withholding a sigh when he looked into her sparkling depths, still holding traces of blue. He hated to see a woman cry.
“Have fun, Aniki,” called Inuyasha with a smirk as he leapt from the balcony, Momi clinging to him. “I sure as hell will!” Suki giggled as the sound of Momi’s hand making contact with Inuyasha’s head echoed through the dark night.
I’ve yet to deduce which resides in any of you, besides Himeko-san, who I believe to be Kushimitama,” he said icily, as if annoyed at having to explain. “When all souls are united, they create a form of powerful balance that can be used for good or evil. Shiinha thinks to make himself invincible. He wishes to have immortality. In a word, he wants to be a god. If he could find a method to extract your powers and recreate the jewel, this could be accomplished. This is why I think it is best that you four are split up.” His words, this time, were met with incredulity and anger.
“We’ve waited forever to be able to live together without worrying about parents or rules or pain in general! Now you’re saying we can’t even stay in the same house, a house we bought together!? We can’t work together when we share a company?!” grated Momi, her hands clenching into fists. Inuyasha put a comforting arm around her shoulder.
“It’s only for your safety as well as everyone else’s. It’ll only be for now… Just until your new building is set up and modified slightly,” he said softly, rubbing Momi’s back and nuzzling the puncture marks at her throat affectionately. “I’ll be staying with you. I promise you won’t get too lonely…” Momi turned bright red and Sesshoumaru looked away although his face remained a mask of stoicism.
“Bankotsu.”
“Hai, Sesshoumaru-sama?” Bankotsu dropped to one knee, standing slightly in front of Aki.
“You will take Aki and Bankotsu to Kyoto. Please stay there until further notice,” said the ice prince before Bankotsu disappeared along with Aki and her brother, leaving a shocked and annoyed Momi behind. “Himeko-san, as you do not have any staff of any sort as of yet in this house, you will be staying with Koga. He will be arriving in about an hour. Momigi-san, you will be with Inuyasha… As for you, Nakashima…” he said, looking down at Suki with a strange gaze. “You will be staying with me, I think… Yes, you shall provide ample entertainment for my grandchildren. Perhaps the job will whip a sense of responsibility into you,” he said disdainfully. Momi looked ready to punch him but Inuyasha kissed his mark, sending her into a state of shivery bliss. Himeko sighed and went upstairs to get Suki’s and Momi’s things.
‘Damn woman… This Sesshoumaru will surely regret this. Oh yes, these next few weeks are going to be hell. I despise ningen women like her,’ thought Sesshoumaru, his lids closing over his amber eyes. He opened them to find the woman-child staring up at him innocently as he took in a breath of what he hoped would be soothing air, but a groan soon passed his lips. ‘Hell… Absolute hell. The Kami must be against me. Why is it now that the little devil must be in heat?’
“Sesshoumaru-sama… Are you really old enough to be a grandpa??” asked Suki, pressing up against him while she stood on tiptoe, examining his features for wrinkles or any other trait to betray his age.
“Yes, fool! You offend this Sesshoumaru with your scent. Step away!” he snarled, bringing tears to the girl’s eyes. He growled again at the salty smell of them, withholding a sigh when he looked into her sparkling depths, still holding traces of blue. He hated to see a woman cry.
“Have fun, Aniki,” called Inuyasha with a smirk as he leapt from the balcony, Momi clinging to him. “I sure as hell will!” Suki giggled as the sound of Momi’s hand making contact with Inuyasha’s head echoed through the dark night.
