Chapter Two:
Kagome stared up at the demon, her eyes wide. She knew she had to get away but her legs wouldn't move. Suddenly she began to regret their decision to let the others stay behind at Kaede's hut. But then again, they hadn't expected this much of a threat. She took a deep breath and raised her bow again. 'All I have to do is hit the shard and then I won't be in any danger' she thought to herself. But, she was slow with her hands and at seeing the demon's arms move, she released her arrow in a desperate attempt to hit her target.
Her arrow missed it's target completely and fell to the ground, almost mockingly. She reached behind her to pull another arrow from her quiver but realized that she had left her remaining arrows with her backpack when she had run to Inuyasha's side. Of all the times for her to be stuck in battle!
Inuyasha chuckled amongst himself as Tetsusaiga's blade met with the youkai's leg. Above him, a loud screech was let loose. The demon howled again in agony as Inuyasha hacked at it's legs. It's arms flailed around it, causing trees to topple.
Kagome thanked Inuyasha silently for the sudden distraction, but didn't have time to dwell on the thoughts because a series of trees were tumbling down all around her. She ran hastily, flying dirt and rocks blurring her vision. She quickened her pace, tripping over branches here and there. She could make out Inuyasha just up ahead. She was almost there when suddenly, a huge fist collided with her body, throwing her backwards. She cried out as her head met fiercely with the dense wood of a fallen tree. She heard Inuyasha call her name, and then black clouded her vision...
Inuyasha watched the demon cry out in pain. He cringed as the demon's voice cracked, causing him to flatten his ears to his head. He smiled triumphantly as the demon began to lose it's balance, having lost the support of it's much-needed leg. Now if he was lucky, the demon would die immediately from the impact of it's fall. Inuyasha's "victory" was celebrated long though. He whipped his head around at the sound of Kagome's shriek.
"Kagome!" he yelled.
Her body went limp and slumped against the trunk of the tree. He dashed from his spot and hastily shoved Tetsusaiga back into it's sheath, his heart racing as he scrambled over the rubble to get to Kagome's side. He knew from looking at her that she was out cold. He scooped her up into his arms quickly. 'I have to get her away from her before that thing falls over!' he thought. He was reluctant to leave the demon, since the shard was in it, but then reminded himself that there would be no more shards if he didn't get Kagome away from the chaos.
Tightening his hold on the young girl, he carried her away, as fast as his demon speed would allow. He stopped only when he was sure he could no longer smell the demon, meaning they were out of it's range. Gently, he spread Kagome onto the soft grass and examined her momentarily. She appeared fine. No bleeding that he could see. He would have to wait until she regained consciousness though and there was no telling how long that could take. He sighed, and shook her shoulder a bit, hoping that maybe it would get through to her. He really didn't want that demon making it to any possibly nearby villages. Unfortunately for him, she didn't even stir, much to his disappointment.
He leaned against the trunk of a nearby tree and watched her, waiting for her to awaken.
Kagome's eyelids fluttered suddenly. 'Ow...my head hurts so bad,' she thought, slowly opening her eyes.
"You're finally awake," came Inuyasha's irritated voice.
"I-Inuyasha?"
"Feh, what is it wench?" he asked bitterly.
"Where are you?" she asked.
"What are you talking about you moron, I'm right here!"
Kagome's heart pounded in her chest violently. Her hands shook as a bit of realization sank in. "I-Inuyasha!" she said through a sob. "I-I can't see you!"
"What?!"
Yes I know, again, this chapter was very short. But, I promise from here on out, they will be longer and more worth your reading time. I want to thank the few people that reviewed because I've noticed that MM folk don't do that too often. Well anyway, I hope you enjoyed the chapter,
