Chapter 2:
How You Use To Be.

`I wonder where that man, Inuyasha, was from. His accent sounded like Maine or Pennsylvania even… not from around here though.'

Kagome had spent hours thinking of the man Inuyasha. `Possibly I could ask Shippo where he was from… like an introduction! Yes, that's it! I can't look too interested, but I can make it like the boy should introduce himself so everyone will like and know him. Then I'll know what I want to know, and be right as rain!' She looked at the clock, `Time to set the tea on, I do believe.'

Kagome lived in a simple house on the end of Crimson Star Street. Near the woods, she had a lovely view of the wilderness, and since her house was two stories, she could look out over the trees and see the beautiful mountains. She even loved the view so much that she had a small window made to where, when no one was looking, she could climb out and sit on her roof. She had had it made secretly, because she was certain that if anyone seen her on the roof, one would think of her as a Witch, which she was not.

`As a matter of fact, everyone should be asleep, might as well go up now.'

Kagome proceeded upstairs to her bedroom. This was where some of her most dark and sinful secrets were hidden.

Once there, she opened up a chest at the end of her bed, and dug through it carefully. She silently pulled out a pair of pants and a flannel shirt with a smile on her face. She inhaled deeply, reveling in the familiar sent from her childhood. These were her Fathers old clothes, and she wore them now and again. This was one of those times… she couldn't very well climb on her roof with a dress on, now could she?

A few minutes later, Kagome was dawned in a full outfit of men's clothing. As she looked herself up and down in the mirror, she thought of her father and her little brother Souta. Although her little brother was still alive, she hadn't seen him in years due to that training camp or whatever. She was sure it was totally unnecessary, but he wanted to go anyway, and the price wasn't that high at all.

She had thought there would be a catch, but she was only a woman. What did she know?

Absolutely nothing as far as anyone else was concerned.

Kagome turned around and walked towards her window. Once there she unlocked the latch, and opened the streak free window. She then crawled out side and paused a moment to relish the night air… so dark and mysterious. She loved it. So many adventures could happen in the dark, and no one would know. Night time was her favorite.

As she climbed up and onto her roof, she noticed the night to be a bit humid, and yet so dry. She walked over to her chimney and sat down. This was her thinking spot, her place to be the out of place girl who loved almost all sins, and wished there was someone like her. The only people who came close were the ones in her books. The obviously `in control' main character, the mysterious individual who was dark and different. That's what she'd love to be about… dark and different.

But Kagome knew what she was about. A good girl afraid of what others would think of her if they knew the truth. Even she was afraid of the real her. No one knew, and no one would ever know… except the man she loved. She wanted a husband who wasn't as helpless as the others, as timid and broken as the church had taught them to be.

Kagome was always curious. She had an eye out for the mysteries of life, and she liked new things most of all. Things she had read in books always left an impression on a certain part of her. Once she had read about a girl who got rid of her anger by cutting her arms several times, so Kagome had secretly tried it. She hadn't done it right, she simply could not cut herself in such a manner as the one described. The results on bled a little and resulted in dark marks that were difficult to hide when her mother wanted to fit her for a dress.

One day she would though. She just had to wait for a wave of courage.

And she knew those didn't come around in her town very often.

Suddenly, there was a sound on the other side of her chimney.

A quietly as she could, she scooted a little closer to the edge and peered down. Kagome saw a really shiny head of hair, and it seemed that whoever it was didn't notice her. Silently, she watched, waiting to see if it really was the man she was thinking of; Inuyasha.

The figure walked up to the side of her house, and leaned against it, and seemed to look around everywhere, almost as if there were some kind of danger here.

Kagome finally decided to stop watching. This was none of her business, so she started to get up and turn around when too shiny, golden eyes connected with hers. She jumped back, knowing that she was caught.

Quickly she got up and tried to walk over to the edge of her house near the window, stumbling only a few times. However before she got to her destination, she was tapped on the shoulder and Kagome froze. Surely this man would turn her in for being a witch. Shit, she was screwed.

Slowly, Kagome turned around, afraid of what would happen. Fully turned around, she looked up into the eyes of the man she had only met once before but thought about the entire day; Inuyasha.

“And what might you be doing up here so late at night, Miss Kagome?” He ask smoothly.

Kagome shivered under the intense feel of his look, “Just enjoying the night air… looking at the stars.”

Feeling slightly confused, Inuyasha looked her up and down. “And why are you dressed in a man's clothing? You are a Miss aren't you?”

Kagome looked down and tugged at her fathers' shirt, and then looked back up, playing with the hem. “Well of course I'm a woman, it just takes a small deal of climbing to get up here, and I can't exactly climb in a dress, well, I could, but it would be very difficult.” Kagome felt uneven in this whole thing. She shouldn't have to explain herself. So she decided to ask some questions of her own. “And what are you doing out on a night like this?” When he didn't answer she gave him a playful and suspicious look.

“Merely looking around… you know, getting use to the area,” Was his smiling answer. However, Kagome had an idea that he was lying, she could sense it.

“Well, would you like to come in, or shall we stay out here?” Kagome ask with a small smile. Did she just invite him in? Oh dear, she needed to stop before he was in her bed also.

“For the time being I'd like to stay out here. The stars are so pretty tonight, although you do outshine them all.” Inuyasha said, smiling at the blush that tinted her cheeks.

“Well, thank you.” Kagome replied in a very girly voice. She looked around, and then a question popped up in her brain. “So, where are you from?”

“Oh, me?” Inuyasha looked down and smiled at Kagome with a very strange, but mysterious look in his eyes. Oh, how she loved it. “I'm from Hungary.”

Kagome gasped, that's where the cruel blood countess was from. And by the look he was giving her, he might just know that as well.

And another thing she remembered, she didn't own a ladder, and her home was two stories.

“How nice,” Kagome shivered. She'd read books, and all the gruesome images seemed to have picked this very time to float up from the recesses she'd stored them in so she could see the bloodied corpses perfectly. “I've heard so many… interesting things about Hungary.” She smiled wearily and watched his eyes light up, what was going on here?

He lifted his head slightly, as if smelling the air, and then smirked at her. “I do believe you have something on the stove, Miss Kagome.”

“Oh, no I don't think…ah shit, my tea!”

Kagome jumped up and bolted for the window. If she had ran any faster her pants might've flown off, but of course, that's not what Inuyasha was paying attention to right now.

`Damn, watch `em shake.'

Kagome was running like a mad woman through her house, trying not to trip over the piles of books in her halls. But, of course, she had tripped several times, and had also managed to knock over a lamp in the process.

Once she had reached her kitchen, the teapot was screaming. Even though it was so loud… how had he heard it?

Kagome turned her stove off, and grabbed a pot-holder from the bakers rack. She picked up her tea, and felt a searing pain spread up her arm. Dull at first, the tearing sensation climaxed when she quickly threw her teapot down on the countertop, and raised her hand up for inspection.

Sure enough, the holder Kagome had used had probably had a hole in it, leaving her skin unprotected causing a small, circle shaped burn that most likely would scar. Of course she had screamed, and no other than Inuyasha was holding up her hand at this time for his own turn of inspection.

“Seems we have a woman not fit for the kitchen, eh?” He concluded monotonously, like a doctor creating a few final moments of humor before the devastating moment of diagnosis. After a few more seconds of him looking her hand over, he ask if she had any butter.

Kagome looked up with a look of confusion, and pain, for she could feel the burn start to blister. “No. I don't keep butter. It's all fat. Why do you ask?”

“Ah, butter is good for burns. I suppose you'll just have to keep a cool rag over it. That won't stop the blistering, but it will cool it down for you. Make it more comfortable.”

Inuyasha fetched the wet towel, and laid it gently over her hand. He was being far too gentle to her, like she meant something more to him than his sons' teacher. This wasn't right, this just wasn't proper… but she liked it.

She caught his eyes for a second longer than she should have, and held them. They were gorgeous eyes, dark… and secretive. Sudden goodbyes danced within their depts. Like a never ending lullaby, gone terribly wrong.

As she was processing this, she realized that he had the same confused look on his face as he had this evening. A look she was interested to know about, to understand. No way would he tell her, she knew this, and it only compelled her more.

“Is there something wrong, Mr. Taisho? You seem ruffled,” Kagome ask with only mild suspicion showing in her voice. She didn't know what it was, but it was slightly scary. After all, she had only known this man for a partial day, and they were alone in her home. This would not look good if anyone should see him leaving.

“No ma'am,” He responded, while standing up. “I suppose I will be on my way, having imposed on your pleasantries for far too long.”

Kagome stood up as well, and pushed her chair under the table. She would just show him to the door, and her life would go on the same as always. She knew that nothing interesting happened in this small town, and it would always be that way.

On her way to the door, Kagome had neglected to notice the small pile of books sitting in the hall. Telling Inuyasha that she looked forward to talking to him again, and that he could stop by anytime he liked, for she would enjoy the company, she managed to fall over the said pile of books.

Kagome closed her eyes, waiting for the pain to come. She braced herself for the cold, harshness of the floor. But it never came. Instead was the feeling of arms holding onto her waist, and a hot feeling on her ear. She opened her eyes and found herself still staring up at the ceiling, she held on though, because this was defiantly better than falling.

“Mr. Taisho?”

He whipped his head around and she found herself staring into gold depths, up close. He licked his lips, and let out an overdue sigh. “Yes, Miss Kagome?

She giggled lightly, “Thank you for catching me. I would've busted my ass if you hadn't,” Kagome covered her mouth as soon as the words were spoken, and closed her eyes. Women were not allowed such language, and he would surely confess this to her father. She wouldn't see daylight for months!

Instead of him scolding her, like any other man would have, he let out a hearty chuckle. He laughed loudly, and it excited her. She had no idea why his laughter seemed deep and seductive to her, but she also had no idea what was so funny.

“What are you laughing at,” she squeaked as loudly as she could. When there was no answer and his laughter deepened she became ruffled herself. “I fail to see the humor, Mr.Taisho!”

He stood her up, but kept his hands on her arms. He laughed a few last chuckles, and unconsciously rubbed her arms up and down, creating a tingly sensation in the pit of her stomach. It tingled like electricity.

`What is this?' She thought.

Inuyasha turned her around and embraced her, snuggling Kagome as if they were best of friends. It wasn't proper for them to do this, no less, in her very own home! Kagome was so confused; she didn't know this man, what the hell was he doing? More importantly, why was he doing it… and why did she like it?

He stared down at her almost intimately, making her blush. “You're just like you use to be, Firefly,” He smiled. “Clumsy, and just so damn cute.”

`Oh dear…'
