Bound By Destiny
Prologue: To the End
“InuYasha, come for me, please,” Kagome whimpered. ‘I don’t want to be here anymore. Not without you’.Prologue: To the End
“Kagome!”
“Kagome, no, please be strong!”
‘I can’t be strong. I’m sorry mama.’ “I-InuYasha”
“We’re loosing her!” a nearby woman yelled. Kagome groaned softly when a flashlight was shined in her eye.
“Higurashi-sama, you must not sleep” the doctor commanded as he shook her shoulder firmly. “You cannot sleep, please stay awake. You have a family who loves you.”
‘I can’t live’ Kagome thought meekly, not fighting the wave of sleepiness when it came for her. “Inu----Yasha” She sighed the broken version of her lover’s name.
Mrs. Higurashi cried as she held her dear daughter’s hand. She had become so thin, a flimsy shadow of her former self. It had happened a little over a week ago, when Kagome had come home battered and crying. And since then, she withered away.
“Blood pressure dropping!”
“Kagome!” Mrs. Higurashi tightened her grip on her daughter’s hand. “Kagome, please”
“I-I’m s-sorry, M-M-Mama” Kagome croaked out before she closed her eyes. ‘Come for me, InuYasha.’
And suddenly, there he was. Standing before her in all his glory, his golden eyes twinkled as his fuzzy ears twitched. She felt her body move on its own accord towards him, towards her mate. The second she was within arm’s length, InuYasha dragged against him, against his heart.
“Kagome,” He whispered in to her hair, sighing softly. Kagome wrapped her arms around him, nuzzling the center of his chest.
“InuYasha, I knew you’d come for me!”
He held her tighter. “I failed you, Kagome. You’re dying.”
Kagome shook her head, leaned up to kiss his cheek. “You didn’t fail me, InuYasha.” She whispered, closing her eyes and letting the warmth he offered her wash over her. “You could never fail me my mate.”
“Its my fault”
“Shhh,” Kagome interrupted and tiptoed to plant a quick kiss on his lips. “It wasn’t your fault, InuYasha. I can’t live without you, I want to be where you are. The well separated us, but this bring us back together.”
He blinked once. Twice. “Death?”
She nodded. “I love you and wherever you are. I’ll be right next to you.”
He closed his eyes. “I love you to, Kagome.”
“The jewel is with me, InuYasha. I’m going to purify it.”

After the defeat of Naraku, InuYasha had finally confessed his love for Kagome. And in doing so, triggered the inevitable events that followed: he took Kagome as his mate and when he did, the well was sealed, trapping Kagome in his time with the jewel. But InuYasha’s life was much longer than any human’s and as his mate, Kagome’s life was lengthened to match his. That meant she could see her family again and so, they settled down to wait.InuYasha built her a hut in the outskirts of the village, near the dormant Bone Eater’s Well. Kagome kept the jewel safe and pure and always around her neck. Shippo lived with them and as the seasons passed, InuYasha became more of a father figure to Shippo. They watched Sango and Miroku get married and have their first child, a little boy whom they named Matsu. And every day that passed, Kagome fell in love with InuYasha more and more. They thought they were meant to be together forever.
But destiny had other plans.
Two years in to their new lives, a youkai pulled much of the same stunt Naraku had pulled to become stronger. He posed a threat to all of them and the jewel. He sent many of his youkai minions to try to take the lives of InuYasha and his friends, but they never succeeded. And while they were distracted with the large amount of weaker youkai, their leader, by the name of Hirokiatsu, attacked. He had taken down Sango and Miroku so easily, as if they never posed a threat to him. The mating mark on Kagome’s neck had provided a shield for Kagome when Hirokiatsu attacked. Angry, InuYasha used all his strength to try to slay the demon.
But he chased after Kagome, who ran in to the forest, in to the meadow of the Bone Eater’s Well. The shield around her was powerful, but it was a mating shield, it was not powerful enough to withstand the blows for to long. As she ran, Kagome lost her footing, tripping over vines and falling in to the well. She had been so sure she would hit the ground on the bottom of the well, but as she fell, Hirokiatsu unleashed a deadly blow in to the well, his awesome energy rocking the well, forcing it to open and let Kagome through, but caving in during the process.
“InuYasha!”
Unable to return to the Sengoku Jidai, Kagome tried desperately to find someway to communicate with InuYasha. But that same day, she had felt it, the ache so deep it brought her to her knees. She knew InuYasha had died in the Sengoku Jidai when her mating mark split, burning her skin and ensuring her own death. She felt the warmth InuYasha’s mark provided her disappear and as the hours passed, she felt her life force being taken away. ‘I can’t live without him, InuYasha dies, I die.’
And so, she accepted it, a little eager to get to where her mate waited for her. It wasn’t painful. Her hunger left her, her will to live died out. She slept all day. She didn’t care to go outside, she stayed in her room, waiting. She weakly told Mrs. Higurashi she and InuYasha had been mated for two years, showing her the broken mating mark on her neck.
“I won’t be able to live without him, Mama. He’s my mate, my other half. I’m dying”
“Don’t say that, Kagome! You have so much to live for!”
“It’s the laws of the youkai, Mama. He dies, I die and vise versa.” Kagome sobbed, hugging her pillow. “I miss him, Mama! I can’t live without InuYasha, I just can’t. It doesn’t hurt, it feels like--it feels like I’m finally going to be reunited with freedom.”
But Mrs. Higurashi was not willing to loose her daughter. She had rushed Kagome in to the emergency room, but all the technology in the world could not stop Kagome’s death. She wanted to die--she wanted to be reunited with InuYasha. Fate was cruel with them, separating them. ‘We weren’t meant to be in this lifetime.’
“Kagome!” Mrs. Higurashi tightened her grip on her daughter’s hand. “Kagome, please”
“I-I’m s-sorry, M-M-Mama” Kagome croaked out before she closed her eyes. ‘Come for me, InuYasha’

“The jewel is with me, InuYasha, I’m going to purify it.” Kagome stated, looking up at her mate.“What are you going to wish for?”
Kagome looked up at him. “To be with you forever.”
InuYasha kissed her forehead softly. “I’ll find you, Kagome. My heart knows you, my youkai knows you, I know the deepest part of you. We’re meant to be together, we’ll find each other.”
Kagome nodded. “I’ll know its you, InuYasha, the moment we meet, my heart will know.”
And that’s the way they decided as they summoned Midoriko, the creator of the jewel. She presented herself to them, smiling softly as though she knew InuYasha and Kagome’s love would make it through the ages.
“A Hanyou and a Miko, what an unlikely, yet perfect match. You’re love is strong and your hearts are pure. Tell me, what is your wish?”
Kagome held on to Midoriko’s hand. “I wish InuYasha and I meet in a different time, a different place, with none of the Sengoku Jidai events present. I want us to be together forever, but with none of this, not in this lifetime.”
Midoriko’s solemn eyes stared in to Kagome’s bright ones, filled with unshed tears. “You both have suffered greatly,” the ancient Miko started. “If you are meant to be, fate will bring you together. As you wish, Kagome. Live a happy and full life, the both of you”
Kagome turned to face InuYasha. “I love you,” she whispered, rubbing his cheek lovingly. “I’ll know its you, InuYasha. I swear I’ll know its you. No one can ever take you away from me.”
“Likewise my mate, I love you to.” He whispered, bending down to cover her soft lips with his.
“I’ll find you, Kagome. And I’ll never let you go.”
