Chapter 10
Appearances Can Deceive
The morning had once again come too soon for Inu Yasha. The buzzing of the alarm was harsh to his ears. As she turned away from him to turn off the clock, he thought to himself, `Maybe if I smash it, I'll never have to get up again. I could just hold her until she begs me to let go.' The idea of her begging him to let go, while he covered her with kisses, left him smiling.
“What is that about?” She giggled.
“It's nice to see you all giggly,” he commented. Taking advantage of the moment, he threw himself on top of her. He gently bit her neck and said, “Let's see if I can get some other nice sounds out of you.”
“Inu Yasha, don't we have to leave?” Shippo's voice traveled through the blankets and into their ears.
“You suck, Shippo. I just want to make sure you know that,” Inu Yasha grumbled as he raised himself on is arms.
“He's right. We should get dressed and get Miroku and Sango. The villagers will start on the fields soon,” Kagome noted.
Inu Yasha turned to reach for his shirt as he whined, “Fine, I'm moving. I don't like it, but I'm moving.”
“Inu Yasha,” Miroku called out as he entered the hut.
“Miroku, we shouldn't just walk in like this,” Sango cautioned. She was still in the doorway, holding open the reed flap.
Inu Yasha emerged from the blankets with Kagome right behind him. He waved his hand and said, “Don't worry about it, Sango. It's not like we're alone anyway.”
After the invite, she entered the hut and propped the boomerang bone up against the wall. Kirara was draped over her shoulder when she turned to face the room.
“Hey, Kirara's back,” Kagome announced.
Sango lifted her hand to pet the tiny cat. “Yeah, we woke up this morning and there she was…curled up at our feet,” She explained.
“Now that we are all together we need to get Shippo out of the village. Nishi's family is already up and waiting for us to leave. Is he still in his...umm?” Miroku trailed off. He pointed his finger at the blankets.
“Room…well…yah, he's still in there. I think I should warn you about something,” Inu Yasha tried to explain, but Shippo cut him off.
“I'm ready,” Shippo said as he pushed aside the blanket to revel himself.
Kirara meowed and tilted her head to one side. Sango's eyes went wide as she mumbled something under her breath, and Miroku's eye was twitching more rapidly then ever before. All were silent until Miroku moved in closer to Inu Yasha and asked, “How many times is he going to do that? I get the long version of this one, right?”
“Hey, I'm standing right here,” Shippo stated in an exasperated tone.
“I think they got that,” Inu Yasha said sarcastically.
Suddenly, Inu Yasha heard a small giggle coming from outside the hut. “Damn, this day is getting worse by the minute,” he groaned as he moved past Miroku and headed for the door. He threw open the flap to see Nishi standing there with her hand over her mouth. “What are you doing here? Have you lost your mind?” He snapped.
She flew by him before he had the chance to stop her. “I couldn't help it. I had to see him before he left!” She exclaimed as she tackled Shippo.
Miroku was the one to ask the obvious, “Did anyone see you out there?”
Nishi had Shippo in a death grip, which he didn't seem to mind being in. She was looking up into his eyes when she answered, “They didn't see me come here.”
Inu Yasha's ears were twitching like crazy. He really didn't like the situation that she was creating. “You don't have a lot of time, so say what you need to and get it over with,” he ordered as calmly as he could.
“Nishi,” Shippo said as he opened the blankets. She let go of him and walked inside.
He was about to follow, but Inu Yasha spoke up, “Use some self control, Shippo. It's going to be hard enough to get you both out of her unnoticed. Don't do anything that will make things worse.”
Shippo nodded and entered the blankets. Nishi had taken his hand and was pulling him towards the far wall. He could hear everyone moving about and whispering on the other side of the blanket. They would be busy trying to figure out how to get Nishi out without being noticed. That meant he had time to explain to Nishi that he needed her to forget him. He felt horrible about how he had used her for feeding. He couldn't lie about it, as much as he wanted her, he didn't love her. Love was what Inu Yasha had for Kagome…something to live and die for. Shippo knew he couldn't give that to Nishi. Maybe if they had been given more time, he might have been able to see it. However, her family had made the choice. She didn't have the time to let him figure out his heart.
He was about to explain it all to her, when without warning, she turned and kissed him. His lips had been parted slightly, so when she kissed him, his tongue had been allowed to hit her lips. That small touch was just enough sensation to spark curiosity in him. It was impulse that led him to trace her bottom lip with his tongue. Before he knew it, his tongue was deep in her mouth. She let out a breath, which he instantly breathed it into himself. The exchange of breath made him shudder. To say that he wanted her was a vast understatement. His body was alive with sensations that he wanted to feel. Sensations that he needed to feel!
She didn't fight him when he backed her against the wall and pulled her kimono up to her stomach. He lifted her, so that she could straddle his hips. In doing so, he discovered that she was wearing nothing beneath the kimono. There was nothing to keep him from taking her. His clothes were a part of his illusion. A simple thought was all he needed to remove them. His penis instantly responded to the knowledge.
Shippo's voice was very low and came out sounding more like a cat's purr than a human voice, “You wanted this to happen?”
Her eyes were barely open, and she couldn't speak. All she could manage was to rub her check up and down the side of his face.
“What the hell!!” Inu Yasha's voice exploded from behind Shippo.
Shippo turned, and lowered Nishi to her feet. She was hanging from him as he moved away from the wall.
Inu Yasha grabbed Nishi and passed her off to Kagome, who was standing a few feet behind him. Inu Yasha couldn't hide the anger in his voice, “You've only been alone for 5 minutes. What the hell were you thinking?”
“You had to ask?” Miroku said as he looked at Nishi. “That's the look of a very happy girl.”
Inu Yasha glared at Miroku, but spoke to Kagome, “Get her out of these blankets.”
Kagome nodded.
“No, let me stay with him,” Nishi begged.
Luckily, Kagome was stronger than she looked. She all but had to carry the girl past the blankets as Miroku held them open.
Shippo tried to go after Nishi, but Inu Yasha grabbed him by the shoulders. He shook Shippo hard and growled, “Snap out of it! You don't want her this way.”
“That looks like want to me,” Miroku interrupted.
Inu Yasha gave Miroku a look that made his hair stand up on end.
“Hehe, I'll just…be…out…,” Miroku stammered while backing his way out of the blankets.
“Please, Inu Yasha, let me have her,” Shippo pleaded and slumped forward. His head ended up on Inu Yasha's shoulder. “You don't understand. I have to have her.”
Inu Yasha didn't know what to do. He couldn't decide if he should try to hug Shippo or not. He was a guy after all. He finally decided that he had never had a problem with Shippo being close to him before. There was no sense in making it a problem now. He let himself hug Shippo, but he had to pat him on the back as he did it. It might have been some strange man thing that he didn't understand, but patting him on the back made hugging Shippo less threatening.
With the macho insecurities out of the way, Inu Yasha was able to speak without distraction. “You can fight this if you want to. I did it. I don't know how different it is for you, but I know that I went through hell. If I can fight, then so can you.”
Shippo backed up and looked him in the eyes. His voice was shaky as he attempted to put his feelings into words, “She just feels so soft. And the taste of her skin,” he paused to wipe at his mouth, “look at me…my mouth is watering just thinking about her.”
“Listen to me, we have to get you out of here. You'll get better if you aren't around her. For that to happen, you have to walk out that door on your own two feet. Can you do that?”
Shippo nodded and answered, “I think so.”
“Then let's do it.”
Inu Yasha lead him out of the blankets to face everyone. Shippo was refusing to look up. Instead, he kept his eyes focused on Inu Yasha's feet. Nishi immediately tried to rush towards Shippo, but Kagome tightened her grip on the girl's arms.
“Oh no, you don't,” Inu Yasha said as he looked at her. “We are going to walk out that door, and you are going to hunker down low so you won't be seen. You can make your way around to the back of the hut and find your way home from there.”
“But…”
“No,” Inu Yasha cut her off, “It's going to be hard enough to hide his latest growth spurt. If you ever want to see him again, you have to do this.”
Nishi could no longer argue. The thought of never seeing him again wasn't something she could live with, so she turned and walked towards the door. She took a deep breath and said, “I'm ready when you are.”
“Kirara, go out first and transform,” Inu Yasha said. When Kirara was outside, Inu Yasha looked at Kagome. “Go on, Kagome. Sango you can follow her out. Nishi can take cover behind your hiraikotsu. Miroku and I will cover Shippo,” he stopped to look at Shippo, who was still looking downward. “Shippo, look at me,” he ordered. Shippo looked up so that Inu Yasha could continue explaining the plan, “When we get you out, get as close to Kirara as you can. If we do this right, they won't see you.”

The mood had been tense until the gang was able to clear the rice field. When they were at the line of trees, they were all finding it easier to breath. Shippo was several feet in front of the group with Kirara at his side. Sango and Kagome were next, with Miroku and Inu Yasha close behind them.
“Kagome-sama, shouldn't you know something about kitsune? They are still worshipped in your time, aren't they?” Miroku asked.
“Me? Well, I didn't really pay attention to Grandpa when he explained it to me,” Kagome giggled nervously. “I guess I never took my miko training seriously until now.”
“Tisk, tisk,” Miroku said mockingly.
“Hey, what about you? Kitsune's were introduced to Japan by the Buddhists.” Kagome responded.
Inu Yasha looked at Miroku, “Well?”
Miroku scratched his head as Sango giggled to herself.
“Let me guess, you forgot about that,” Inu Yasha snickered.
“Yeah, at least I remembered learning that they really like sex. Not just for food, but the sensation is supposed to be incredible for them.”
Inu Yasha put his hand over his eyes as he said, “You would know that part.”
“To my perverted husband's defense…I was told that they seduced young men while in female form. I guess the sexual part of their nature is the only part that anyone remembers,” Sango explained.
“I am so glad that we're at the well!” Shippo yelled as he stopped walking. “If I hear one more thing about my sexual habits, before I get to figure out what they are…I'm going to pelt you all with acorns!”
Inu Yasha looked at Kagome and gave a nod in the direction of the well. Before he followed her, he smacked Miroku on the back. “Have fun with that,” he laughed.

Kagome's morning at school had passed by at a painful crawl. As the day progressed she was growing more anxious. She found herself daydreaming in an attempt to calm her nerves. Yet, the more that she thought about Inu Yasha, the more anxious she became. Unfortunately, the afternoon wasn't moving any faster.
There had been one bright spot in the day. She had learned that Ayumi had a book about kitsune. `Of all the people I could've thought of…I've never pictured Ayumi to be the one who would know about kitsune. I guess I should've paid more attention to my friends.' She looked towards the front of the room to see the backs of Erri's and Yuka's heads. `Well, at least the friend that counted. I really need to make things up to Ayumi. I did introduce her to those two when we entered junior high.'
“Kagome-chan, the bell rang,” Ayumi whispered as she tapped Kagome's shoulder.
“Sorry, I didn't hear it.”
“Did you want to follow me home, or should I meet you at your house after I pick up the book on kitsune?” Ayumi asked as she waited for Kagome to get her stuff together.
“If it would be easier for you, I'll follow you home.”
The hallway was too noisy for conversation. The girls had to wait until they had hit the sidewalk before it was quite enough to continue talking.
“So that cute little fox boy has gone hormonal already?”
Kagome could barely stop laughing as she replied, “I wouldn't have put it that way, but I guess you're right. And he wasn't that little the last time I saw him.”
“Whoa, I guess you never know by looking at someone…” Ayumi's voice trailed off. Her attention was suddenly on an American exchange student who was standing a few yards in front of them. The young man was tall with shoulder length blond hair.
“Ayumi-chan?”
Ayumi's cheeks were suddenly red as they walked past the young man.
“Konnichiwa, Ayumi-san,” he whispered as she passed him.
“Konnichiwa,” she giggled back.
“What was that about? Who is he and what did I miss?” Kagome asked as she pulled at Ayumi's arm.
“He's name is Evan. Isn't he the sexiest guy you have ever seen?”
“Did you just say sexy?” Kagome laughed. “You are lusting after a foreign exchange student? Why doesn't that surprise me?”
Ayumi smiled at Kagome. She did have a point. “Well, I guess it does run in my family. I mean, my mom's dad is from London and my dad was born in New York. It's not that surprising that I would want an English speaking man. It is in my blood.”
“I knew your dad was American, but I never knew about your grandfather.”
“Um, my mom is always saying how surprised she was that I was born with dark hair and not blond. All the foreign blood in my family did give me really curly hair, though.”
Kagome shook her head as if she didn't like the thought, “You've always had a thing for men who speak English. I'm not surprised that you are attracted to them, but I don't think it has anything to do with it running in your family. I don't think your attraction to a foreign exchange student has anything to do with your genes.”
“Well, I get it from somewhere. You don't think that our families influence us when we it comes to the men we fall for?'
Kagome laughed away the comment, “if they did, I sure wouldn't have ended up with Inu Yasha.”
******
Inu Yasha was seated at the small table that was in the center of the living room, staring at the TV, while Grandpa searched for information on kitsunes. His ears were twitching like mad, and his fingers were drumming on the table. For the moment he had been able to bypass the explanation of why he wanted the information, but he was terrified that Grandpa would soon ask. He really didn't want to have a sex talk with Grandpa. He knew that his nerves wouldn't be able to handle it. He had been so focused on his anxiety that he nearly jumped out of his skin when Mama took a seat next to him.
“What is it Inu Yasha? Your ears are going crazy.”
Inu Yasha looked around to see if Grandpa was anywhere in sight.
“Don't worry, dear, he went over to the shrine. He said that he wasn't having any luck finding what you wanted here in the house.”
“I need to know about kitsune.”
She leaned in a bit closer to him and asked, “That has you ready to jump out of your skin?”
“I don't want to explain to him my reason for wanting to know?”
“Could you let me in on it?” She asked with a smile.
He thought about it for a moment, and then nodded his head. “Do you know how kitsune feed?”
“Yes,” she answered. She placed her arm on the table and bent it upward, so that she could prop her head up with her hand. “Is this about Shippo?”
“Let's just say…he's figured out how nice kissing can be. And…it makes him really hungry.”
Mama covered her eyes with her hand and shook her head. She was trying not to laugh, but she couldn't hold it in as she spoke, “I love how you put things, Inu Yasha. It is such a nice change from the world I have to put up with everyday.”
“Is sex always this complicated, or is it just because we're youkai?”
She placed her hand on his shoulder and answered, “Oh no, dear, sex is always this complicated. That's why everyone spends so much time talking about it. If they really knew anything about it, they wouldn't be talking.”
He looked at the table and grumbled, “At least that makes me feel better.”
“Don't tell me that you two are still having problems when it comes to that?” She asked with a gentle voice that was full of concern.
“Still?! You knew that we were having problems before the wedding?”
“A mother knows these things. We rarely tell, but we know them. You can talk to me about that too…if you are comfortable enough.”
“I think I am, but I have to know about Shippo first,” he said honestly.
“Ok then. All you need to know about kitsune…they are fascinated by sensation. That is one reason they choose to feed during sex. It's not only an easy way to feed, but a way that they enjoy a great deal. Since their nature doesn't allow them to take what they need by force, they must have someone to be a willing…I hate to say this, but…food source. Mates are usually the best way to do this. Now if Shippo does find a mate…he will need to be very careful with this person. The sexual experience can be very draining, and sometimes to pleasurable for the human to endure. It's almost like those drugs that Kagome was taking. The human body can reach a point were it can't survive without the kitsune.”
“Wait, you are saying that it can feel so good that Nishi could die from it.”
She nodded and said, “Yes. If he's not careful with her, then he can kill her. It takes a special sort of human to endure mating with a youkai,” she stopped as sadness crept into her face, “Some humans will die from it whether the youkai want them to or not. They are too weak to handle the youkai's power.”
“I could've killed Kagome,” he whispered as his heart skipped a beat.
“Inu Yasha, don't. Trust me on this, my daughter is not one of those weak humans. I wouldn't have let you be with her if I thought you could've hurt her. Hanyous are different from full youkai. They don't need to feed from humans to exist in this world. Hanyous are already a part of it.”
“You're sure of that?”
“Yes, I am very sure. For a youkai to come into this world, when it hasn't been called forth, means that the elements aren't balanced. That's why there are so many youkai in your time. It was a time of war and death. The world was wounded. Youkai were able to drain the life of the land, because the humans were already doing it. You are human and youkai. You are a balance of light and darkness. Your existence isn't offensive to this world, because you need nothing that a normal human wouldn't need.”
“So then what are we going to do about Shippo?”
“All you can do is warn him and let him learn on his own. But keep in mind that Kitsune are very loyal. Shippo won't only be a friend for life; he'll take on the values and beliefs that you have. If you don't approve, then he might guilt himself into the grave. I do mean that the guilt will kill him. He might have a better chance at surviving the death of a lover, than the loss of your respect.”
“I guess I'll have to deal with it as it happens.”
“It really is the best you can do. Kitsune feed…you can't change that.”
“You know, the world looks like it should be so simple. Why does everything have to be so screwed up?”
“Because appearances can deceive, dear, stop looking at what's on the surface. Try to look deeper into the things that people do and say, and you'll understand things much better if you do.”
“Grandpa isn't looking for anything, is he? You both knew that I would talk to you before I would talk to him?”
She smiled and boasted, “I knew you'd figure it out. You're too smart for your own good.”
“Doomo, Mama, I needed that.”
