Chapter 17

Kirara landed down on the hot ground of the volcanic mountain after a long trip with very few stops along the way. When Inuyasha jumped off of the nekomata, she immediately transformed back into her smaller form and jumped into Inuyasha's arms for a much needed nap. Shippo has been snoozing on the hanyous shoulder for the past few hours now.

It was about a thirty six hour trip to get here, and Inuyasha is relieved. At this rate, he should be able to get back to Kagome right on time.

He walked towards the giant skull where the old sword smith resides. "Oi! Old man!"

Inuyasha heard the moo of the three eyed youkai Ox named Mō-Mō nearby and rolled his eyes. He stepped into the entrance and looked towards where Totosai was clearly ignoring him.

Inuyasga growled as he walked up to him and stuffed his arms into his sleeves. "Oi!"

Totosai jumped as he was startled out of his concentration, and looked up at the irate half demon. He stuck a finger in his ear to clear it as his eyes bugged out.

"Inuyasha? What the hell are you doin' here?"

Inuyasha rolled his eyes as he plopped down next to the sword smith. He moved Shippo and Kirara next to him to sleep curled up together while he deals with the old man.

"I need your help with somethin'."

Totosai narrowed his eyes and forcibly pulled the Tetsusaiga from Inuyasha's hip. Inuyasha growled in response.

"Oi! What the fuck are ya doin' with my Tetsusaiga!?"

Totosai ignored him as he pulled the sword from its sheath and inspected it. "Eh? There ain't nothin' wrong with it." He scratched his head and resheathed the sword.

Inuyasha snatched it back and put it in its rightful place on his hip. "Of course there ain't! I don't need help with Tetsusaiga, ya old goat!"

Totosai looked at him confusedly. "Eh? Tetsusaiga? What do ya need help with Tetsusaiga for, boy?"

Inuyasha growled before he punched the old man on the top of the head, leaving a nasty pink lump in its wake. As he was snarling, trying to think of a reason not to kill the old man, he felt a prick on his nose. He crossed his eyes and growled as he saw the tiny culprit. He smacked his face and held his hand out to catch the blood sucking parasite.

Inuyasha pinched Myoga between two fingers and held him up in front of his face. "I ain't here to give ya a free meal!"

"Then why are ya here?" Totosai asked, completely ignoring the murderous look in the hanyous eyes.

Inuyasha dropped Myoga to the ground and stuffed his hands back into his sleeves. "Keh. I need to talk to Myoga and I gotta have somethin' made for Kagome."

Totosai scratched his head. "Kagome... Ah, that's the pretty young girl that is much too good for you."

Inuyasha growled once again as Myoga jumped up and onto his shoulder. The small flea demon clapped his tiny hands together and peered up at the hanyou happily.

"Have you finally asked young Kagome-sama to become your mate, Master Inuyasha!?"

Inuyasha slid a hand down his face and sighed in exasperation. "Yes. Kagome agreed to be my mate." Seeing the look of elation on Myoga's face, he clarified. "After we defeat Naraku. That's one reason why I'm here." He looked down at the flea and cocked an eyebrow. "My bastard of a brother said somethin' 'bout markin' her before we mate. I need details."

Totosai rolled his eyes as he continued to forge a weapon he was working on before Inuyasha had so rudely interrupted him. He turned to the surly hanyou and narrowed his eyes.

"Always so rude! You need to learn to respect your elders, boy."

Inuyasha growled and raised his fist once again, but Myoga's voice stopped him. "Hai! You can mark her before the actual mating." Inuyasha lowered his arm and looked at the flea questioningly. Myoga rubbed the back of his neck before continuing. "Uh... Males will sometimes mark their intended mate before the mating, but I gotta know Master Inuyasha... is there a reason why you are putting it off?"

Inuyasha's ears drooped as he nodded his head. "Keh... That bastard Naraku kidnapped her and... and raped her over and over... he did a lot more to her mind but that's bein' handled. The point is, we are waitin' until after the bastard is dead, and then we are gettin' married and mating on her sixteenth birthday."

Totosai had stopped his forging to stare wide-eyed at the hanyou. Myoga was sitting there, mouth agape, unsure of what to say to that new information.

Inuyasha sighed before he continued. "Can I just know how this works and if it's dangerous?"

Myoga shook himself free of his stupor and nodded his head. "H-Hai, Master Inuyasha. So, the mark you would put on her would not be permanent. It is basically a promise of sorts. It shows other demons that she is already promised to another and they cannot place a mark over yours. But you also have to remark her once every moon cycle, because it will begin to fade the longer you go without mating. Once you begin the mate bond, you will mark her again, but this time it will become permanent, tying her lifespan to yours. Oh, and since she is not a normal human, she can also mark you to fully tie your souls together. This will make the mating much stronger. There will be many positive effects after the marks are complete. Only youki, reiki users, and the low chance of true mates, can complete the full mate bond with marking each other."

Inuyasha nodded his head as he took in the new and helpful information. "Keh. She's a Miko and my true mate." He ignored the looks of surprise from the older men in front of him to think for a minute. After a moment, he continued with his questioning. "Can... Can she still be... forced... if I give her this mark before the mating?"

Myoga looked a little depressed as he answered. "W-Well... a mark cannot be forced but... she can be r-raped... although, you would know right away when something is wrong. She can communicate to you through her mark. You will easily be able to feel her exact feelings, and if she messes with the mark a certain way, you'll know what is wrong."

Inuyasha cocked his head to the side. "What way?"

Myoga blushed and rubbed the back of his neck. "W-Well... if she were to... rub it lightly with the intent of... sexual desire... you would know... b-but if she were to purposely hurt herself by scratching it or pinching it, you would know something is seriously wrong."

Inuyasha was blushing slightly, but nodded in understanding. "A-Anythin' else?"

Myoga scratched under his chin and then nodded when he thought of something. "Ah, yes. When you both have your marks, you can communicate to her the same way. Not only that, but the stronger the bond gets, the more you both will be able to communicate with each other. You may even begin to hear each others thoughts."

Inuyasha's eyes practically bugged out of his head. "What!?"

Myoga nonchalantly shrugged his shoulders. "It was only known to happen to one couple, but hai... if your bond becomes very strong, it is a possibility."

Inuyasha sat in thought for a moment before nodding in understanding and turning to Totosai. "I need ya to make somethin' for Kagome."

Totosai once again stopped his forging to stare at the half demon in front of him. "Would it kill ya to say please?"

Inuyasha growled, but before he could respond, a waking kitsune sat up and rubbed his eyes from sleep. "It might kill him. He isn't known to be polite."

Inuyasha snarled as his teeth clenched together and his hands are in tight fists at his sides. He looked at the old man who seems to be unphased and spoke between his clenched teeth.

"I need somethin' made for Kagome... please." A vein was popping out of his forehead as he growled it out.

Totosai looked confused as he scratched the top of his head. "Who's Kagome?"

Shippo began to roll around in laughter while Myoga chuckled. Inuyasha snarled and stood up abruptly to leave the cave before he seriously injures someone. When he made it outside, he unsheathed his Tetsusaiga and allowed his adamant spears free throughout the fiery wasteland.

After letting off some steam, he picked up a few small pieces of adament and stormed back inside. He dropped them in front of Totosai and glowered down at him.

"I need ya to make a ring for Kagome. Use this on the band."

Totosai picked up a piece of adament and inspected it closely. "A ring, you say?"

Inuyasha plopped back down in front of Totosai with Tetsusaiga resting propped against his shoulder. "Keh. A band that fits around her finger. It's s'posed to show other humans in her world that we're gettin' married."

Myoga hopped onto Inuyasha's nose and looked at him as a proud grandfather would. "Oh, Master Inuyasha! Your father would be so proud of the man you have become!"

Inuyasha rolled his eyes, but blushed slightly. "Feh... So can ya do it, old man?" Myoga went back to sitting on the hanyous shoulder.

Totosai looked from the piece of diamond back to Inuyasha and nodded slowly. "Hai. That should not be a problem... but I do need to know how big to make it. I ain't got any sorta idea about the size of her finger, boy."

Inuyasha looked around the space and his ears perked up when he saw a bundle of string. He picked it up and sliced off a bit of it with the tip of his claw before tying it off into a small circle. He examined it for a moment before handing it over to Totosai.

"That size."

Shippo jumped onto Inuyasha's unoccupied shoulder and peered down at the makeshift ring of string. "You remember how big her finger is? That's just weird."

Inuyasha glared at him but didn't respond as he looked back at the old smith. Totosai nodded his head as he set the string down next to the adament pieces. He looked back at the hanyou and quirked an eyebrow.

"What am I to make the band out of?"

Inuyasha looked confused for a moment. "How the fuck should I know? I ain't the smith here."

Totosai shook his head and looked at him incredulously. "And they call me the dense one. I have few precious metals I can use, and all it'll cost ya is a nice warm bath for my aching bones."

Inuyasha growled but didn't fight it. If he can get Kagome an engagement ring, then making a damn bath isn't that bad of payment for it.

"Keh. Gold or silver. Don't really care as long as Kagome likes it." He shrugged his shoulders. Truth of the matter is, he doesn't know all that many types of metals. Only the ones he can sort of remember from when he lived with his mother, and the ones he has witnessed bandets stealing from the wealthy.

Totosai nodded his understanding as he pulled some of his metals out and placed them on top of the work table. "Give me some of your hair."

"Eh?"

Totosai rolled his eyes. "Would ya rather I take a fang again?"

Inuyasha yelped embarrassingly as he covered his mouth with his hands. "No fuckin' way, bastard!" He put his hands back into his sleeves and narrowed his eyes at Totosai, ignoring the snickering coming from the kitsune and flea. "What the hell do ya need it for anyway?"

"Do ya want the ring or not? I ain't gonna explain every little detail to you, Inuyasha. So give me the hair and I will be done in three days."

Inuyasha glowered at Totosai as his eye began to twitch. He used a claw to cut two long strands of silver hair from his head and sat it down with the other items. Then he crossed his arms and huffed.

"Two days and no later than that."

Totosai separated his tools and other important items as he spoke. "If ya need it that fast, then I'm gonna need my bath made sooner rather than later."

Inuyasha growled but stood up abruptly, taking Shippo with him and leaving quickly. He called over his shoulder, "I'll get your damn bath ready, but that ring better be finished before the two days are completely over!"

Inuyasha heard a small, "yeah yeah." and then metal hitting metal. He rolled his eyes as he got to work collecting wood and buckets of water.

Inuyasha had left Friday afternoon after her appointment, and now it is nearing close to midnight Saturday night and Kagome is afraid to fall asleep. The night before, she and Ayumi had stayed up pretty late watching movies and gossiping. It honestly felt good to act like a normal fifteen year old again.

But every few minutes, she would space out and just think about her hanyou. Where is he now? How is he doing? Is Shippo with him? Is he okay?

Then she would shake herself free of her wandering thoughts and go back to spending some much needed time with the one friend in this era who actually understands her.

The night before, when Ayumi had fallen asleep, Kagome twisted and turned in the bed restlessly. It has been awhile since she had slept without her hanyou and she was quick to realize that she had become very attached to the new arrangements.

When she finally did fall asleep, her nightmares had returned. They were constantly changing from one thing to the other. Either Inuyasha would get killed and she would kill herself to get rid of the pain... or Naraku would come and force her mate and friends to watch as he raped her over and over in front of them... or Inuyasha would leave her because she isn't pure enough for him, and she would end up in Naraku's grasp anyway...

They plagued her all night long, until she woke up the following morning crying and in a cold sweat. Ayumi and her mother calmed her down after a while, but now that the next night has come, she is much too afraid to sleep without the arms of her mate surrounding her.

She is laying on her back and staring up at the ceiling of her small room. The soft snores of her friend on the air mattress next to her bed is the only noise she can hear.

She sighed as she sat up and quietly stood to sneak out without waking Ayumi. She walked downstairs and drank a glass of water before grabbing her sweater, slipping on her shoes and heading outside into the cool night air.

She walked around the house and towards the Sacred Tree, holding her sweater closed when a particularly cold breeze swept through her, creating goosebumps along her exposed skin. When she made it to her destination, she put her right hand onto the bark of the tree and closed her eyes. She took a deep breath in and let it out slowly as she thought of everything good in her life.

Shippo; her little fox demon. Such an adorable and bubbly little kid. She took him in after he lost the only family he had left, fed him and bathed him and took care of him to the best of her ability.

Miroku; the most straight forward person she has ever met, but wise beyond his young eighteen years of life. He may be a lecherous and amorous monk, but he is very charming and helpful when the need arises.

Sango; her best friend of the past. The young taijiya who has easily become like an older sister to her. Even though she is only a year older than her, her life as a demon slayer and growing up in the Sengoku Jidai has aged her mentally well above her years. She is wise and a wonderful ear when Kagome needs to talk to someone.

Kirara; the fire cat that is always by her companions side. She will always protect those who need it, and she will do so without preamble. Although a nice cut of fish will do wonders for her mood. Not to mention her cuddling nature makes for an amazing night time companion.

Kaede; the old woman who has become like a grandmother to her. She has taught her so much about what it means to become a priestess, but also how to live her life without worrying about what others may think of her.

Inuyasha... the man who was literally pinned to this very tree in a dormant state, until she came around from five hundred years in the future and broke him free. The half demon with the cute doggie ears and the smoldering golden eyes. The sharp claws that could destroy an enemy in a blink of an eye, yet are so gentle towards her. The elongated fangs with the ability to rip her throat out, but instead inflicts pleasure along her heated flesh. The body of a God, an Adonis, and the gentleness of a careful and respectful lover.

Kagome's eyes immediately shot open as a pleasurable shiver ran throughout her body. She pulled her hand from the tree and looked up into the swaying branches. Her body had heated itself up when her thoughts had wandered, but now her eyes are drooping from exhaustion.

She yawned as she turned and slid down along the base of the tree. She sat on the cool ground with her knees pulled up to her chest and her arms wrapped around her legs. She looked up into the dark night sky and gazed at the stars. She thought about how the stars are so much more bright in the past. How much more beautiful everything is back there.

Her eyes fluttered shut involuntarily as her head lolled to the side, her breathing began to even out as she slowly fell asleep against the Tree of Ages...

...the only thought left to cross her mind is of Inuyasha, wondering if he is thinking of her too...

Inuyasha is sitting just outside of Totosai's dwelling with his Tetsusaiga propped up against his chest and shoulder. Shippo is sleeping with Kirara inside and away from the slightly cooler air. Totosai is taking his 'well deserved' bath before he continues with the ring for Kagome.

Inuyasha sighs as he looks up at the stars in the darkened night sky. "Kagome..." he murmurs to himself.

His golden eyes are shining like a beacon in the night as he watches the world around him. Things that never mattered to him before he had met the young Miko of the future. Things like the stars in the sky and how bright and beautiful they are. Kagome had complained to him one night that the stars in the future are harder to see because of all the extra lighting in the big 'cities', she had said. He didn't care at the time, but now he wonders...

"Are you lookin' at them too?"

He closed his eyes as he felt the telltale sign of prickling tears he refuses to let fall. He knows he is being ridiculous. There isn't any need to cry. He was on his own for over a hundred and forty five years, he can handle a measly five days.

He opened his eyes back up as a pretty heavy gust of wind tickled his face. He looked back up at the stars in the sky and sighed once again. He could actually see the beauty in the world now. Kagome has changed him in more ways than she could ever understand and he is eternally greatful. He doesn't even care that he may seem weak to his enemies, because he knows he is anything but weak. He knows that with Kagome by his side, he can do anything.

He shut his eyes once more to try and get some rest. He doesn't have his mate in his arms, but he knows that soon he will and soon he won't have to be apart from her like this ever again.

'I love you, Kagome... Are ya thinkin' 'bout me too?'

Mrs. Higurashi woke up the following morning and went downstairs to make some hot tea and start on breakfast. As she was passing by the sliding glass door, she caught the sight of raven hair and paused in her tracks. She turned to look outside and her eyes widened with a small frown turning down the corners of her lips.

Mrs. Higurashi quickly went upstairs and into her bedroom. She opened her closet and pulled out one of her extra blankets before heading back downstairs and outside.

When she approached Kagome, she crouched down and wrapped the blanket around the young girl's shoulders. She watched as Kagome's big brown eyes opened and locked with hers.

"Kagome dear, you must be freezing."

Kagome lifted her head and looked around a little dazed and confused for a moment, before the memories of last night came rushing back. She pulled the blanket closer around herself as she shivered and a yawn broke free.

"I'm sorry mama. I... I couldn't sleep and I was only going to be out here for a few minutes but... this tree always makes me feel closer to Inuyasha..."

Mrs. Higurashi nodded in understanding as she helped her daughter to stand up. "I understand dear. The Sacred Tree means a lot to this family as I am sure it means a lot to you and Inuyasha." She gave her a warm smile as they began to walk back towards the house. "Come. I will make some tea and a nice hot meal. How does that sound?"

Kagome smiled and nodded her head. "That sounds perfect, thanks mama."

Mrs. Higurashi smiled as she opened the door and they both walked into the pleasantly warm house. "No problem dear. Go on and get ready for the day, and everything will be done when you are finished."

Kagome nodded happily as she took the blanket from around her shoulders and folded it back up on her way up the stairs. When she made it upstairs, she first went to her mother's room to put the blanket away and then went to her own room. She had forgotten about her guest until she opened the door and walked in a little too loudly, waking up Ayumi.

Ayumi sat up and stretched her arms above her head. She looked around confusedly for a moment before finally gazing at the clock. Her eyes widened as she read the time.

She turned to Kagome with a small glare, noticing the girl's sheepish smile. "It's seven in the morning on a Sunday, Kagome!"

Kagome walked towards her closet to grab clothes for the day. "Sorry, Ayumi. I kinda forgot you were in here and was a little loud. Mama's making breakfast though."

Kagome laughed when Ayumi immediately jumped up with excitement. "Oh! I love your mother's cooking."

Kagome shook her head in amusement as she headed out towards the bathroom. "I'm gonna take a quick shower. I'll meet you downstairs, okay?"

"Kay!" Ayumi replied as she bolted out of there as if her behind was on fire.

Kagome let out a small chuckle as she closed the bathroom door behind her. She continued with her morning routine along with thoughts of Inuyasha. If everything goes as planned, he should be back on Wednesday and then they can go back to the past together until her next appointment. They still have some shards to find and a bastard to kill, after all.

As she was finishing up with her hair, she thought about how she managed to escape the nightmares last night. She wonders if it has anything to do with her place of rest, or if it was just a happy coincidence. Either way, she is very grateful.

After she was dried off and dressed, she headed downstairs and breathed in the smell of fresh cooked eggs and bacon. She smiled happily as she sat down at the table next to Ayumi. Souta tends to sleep in on the weekends, so he is upstairs. Especially with getting over his cold, he could use all the rest he could get. Gramps had already eaten and rushed out to the shrine grounds to work.

Kagome immediately dug into her food as if she hadn't eaten in weeks, and smiled up at her mother when the older woman placed a mug of hot tea in front of her. She swallowed her mouthful of bacon and looked to Ayumi drinking her own hot beverage.

Kagome cocked an eyebrow at her friend. "Since when do you drink coffee?"

Ayumi shrugged her shoulders as she swallowed a gulp of complete heaven. "I don't know. A year or so."

Kagome shrugged her shoulders also as she went back to devouring her meal.

Inuyasha's eyes opened as the sun rose above the horizon. He wasn't fully asleep, but he allowed himself to have some rest before the long trek back in about a day. He stood up and stretched his limbs before tucking Tetsusaiga back to his hip.

As he went inside of the large skull, he was immediately jumped on my the small kitsune. "Inuyasha! You're awake. I'm hungry."

Inuyasha turned to the old youkai smith who was busy working on the ring and then looked back at the pouting kit. "Keh. Come on, we'll hunt for somethin'." He looked around for the fire cat, and when he found her cuddled up to the old man's side, he rolled his eyes. "Oi, Kirara. Wanna come?" At Kirara's decisive shake of the head, he shrugged his shoulders and headed outside to find their morning meal.

Totosai looked up from his work just to yell out towards the retreating hanyou. "Grab me somethin', will ya?" Totosai and Myoga chuckled when they heard the growl from afar.

Inuyasha and Shippo went far enough away in order to find some sort of game. Once they finally spotted some rabbits in the distance, Inuyasha spent the next twenty minutes or so helping Shippo sneak up on them to properly hunt. Inuyasha had caught three rabbits while Shippo managed to catch one, but he couldn't help the small smirk at the proud little kit.

His mind wandered towards a future where he is teaching his young pups how to hunt and how to slay demons. His ears flattened at the image of his stubborn mate yelling at him for allowing their child to wield a weapon at such a young age.

He held the three dead rabbits in his left hand as he stroked the sheath of his sword with his right. He couldn't help but wonder what kind of weapon his future kids might use. Would they use a sword like his? Maybe a sythe? Or would they maybe inherit Kagome's spiritual powers and use a bow and arrow? Would they need a special weapon to lock away their demon blood like him?

He shook his head free of those wandering thoughts when the excited kitsune jumped up and onto his shoulder. "Inuyasha! Did ya see!? I caught one!"

Inuyasha smiled at the kit and patted his head. "Good job, Shippo." He continued to walk back towards Totosai's as his mind wandered some more. 'I kinda already have a kid of my own...' A genuine smile came to his face at the thought of raising young Shippo as his. 'My son...'

Tuesday came around and Kagome was buzzing with excitement. Inuyasha should be back the next day and she can hardly wait! She had managed to get a ton of school work done along with extra studying for her GED test next year, for when she is old enough to take it.

Ayumi had left yesterday morning for school and wasn't allowed to stay the night again because the week has fully started.

Kagome didn't realize how much she has begun to rely on friends to pass the time. Now that she has been alone for over twenty four hours, she is going stir crazy. Her mother took her out for a walk to get some fresh air and spend some time with her, but now that she is back home and in her empty room, she is bored out of her mind.

Not only that, but being alone with your own thoughts is not always fun. Her mind seems to be a rollercoaster of emotions recently. Going from thinking about a wonderful future with Inuyasha, to Naraku and thinking about what may come of their next meeting.

She plopped back onto the bed and shook her thoughts free of anything negative. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath in to keep her mind on the man she loves with all her heart.

A small smile comes to her face as she imagines him with her. His golden gaze looking down upon her, cupping her cheek and whispering sweet nothings to her before sealing his love with a slow and passionate kiss. She thinks about wrapping her arms around his strong body, deepening the kiss with her tongue and tasting him even further.

Kagome thinks about what it would be like to feel him fill her with his seed. She would look into his eyes, both of them groaning and moaning as their matching thrusts become erratic and uneven. Inuyasha would try and warn her about his orgasm by saying, "K-Kagome... I'm gonna..."

Two days have passed since Inuyasha arrived at Totosai's. He was pleasantly surprised when he woke up to Totosai handing him a small leather box. His ears perked up and he looked down at the thing in wonder. He looked up at the sword smith before looking back down at the small box in his hands. He swallowed thickly as he opened it and his eyes lit up at the contents.

Inside was the most beautiful piece of jewelry he has ever seen. The band was made of both gold and silver, one thin piece was silver interlocking with the other thin piece that was gold. He noticed his silver hair was used to help tie together the large diamond that sat sturdily on top. There were five smaller diamonds surrounding the one big one and they were all sparkling in the morning sun.

He pulled the ring out of the box and turned it around in his hand, inspecting each and every detail. His eyes widened when he looked on the inside of the band, noticing the small ingraving. It was kanji that wrote, forever.

Inuyasha placed the ring back into the box and closed it before safely putting it inside of his Suikan. He stood up to be face to face with the old smith and surprised Totosai with a small formal bow. When he looked back up at the wide eyed man, he smirked.

"Ya have no idea what... what this means to me... Th-thanks Totosai..." He looked away and blushed at having revealed a part of himself that only Kagome ever got to see.

Totosai nodded his head as he began to walk back into his home. "Don't mention it, Inuyasha. It was fun to make! My first ever non-sword creation and I am pretty damn proud of it too."

Inuyasha followed the old smith into the giant skull and lifted the sleeping Shippo up off the floor to place carefully on his shoulder. Shippo let out a small groan before cuddling in harder and continuing with his tiny snores.

"So, what was my hair for? I know ya did somethin' to it old man. I can sense the youki."

Totosai scratched the back of his head as he plopped down in his makeshift couch and stretched his limbs. "Huh? Oh right. It is extra protection for your mate."

Inuyasha's brow quirked as he waited for an explanation. When he didn't get one, he sighed and shook his head. "What kinda protection?"

"Heh. Just this and that." He waved his hands in a gesture that meant not to worry about it.

Inuyasha growled lightly before speaking. "Totosai. This will be attached to my mate tomorrow. I ain't gonna find out what the hell ya did by waitin' for it to happen!"

"Oh alright. She can channel her reiki into it and use your youki as well. She can use it to create a youkai barrier or mix in some of her reiki and create a hybrid; youki and reiki barrier. She can also use it to send out small youki attacks, but only very small. If she were to channel her reiki into it to attack, then she can mix the youki attack with her reiki as well. So it is good for both defense and offense."

Inuyasha only stared at Totosai wide-eyed, mouth agape. Not only did Totosai manage to make this beautiful ring, but also made it have such incredible abilities! He can't even explain the shock at the old man's capabilities.

Totosai chuckled at the look of pure shock and confusion on Inuyasha's face. When a new thought came to him, he spoke up. "Oh, and only you or Kagome can take the ring off of her finger. That way it can't fall into the wrong hands. It will grow and shrink to fit her if it needs to, so no need to come back for adjustments."

Inuyasha nodded dumbly as his mouth opened and closed a few more times. He finally got shaken out of his stupor by Myoga's voice.

"Master Inuyasha! Ya gotta get goin' if you want to see your beloved Kagome-sama by tomorrow night! Go, go."

Inuyasha nodded his head as he called for Kirara to get up. He turned towards the old men and nodded once. "Thanks." Then he turned back around and mounted Kirara for the journey back to his mate.

Kagome woke up early Wednesday morning, immediately jumping out of bed and getting ready to see her mate. She grabbed her clothes and rushed into the bathroom to take care of business, shower and brush her teeth.

Once she was finished with all of that, she asked her mother for some yen so she could go to the store and get some things for her trip back. She ended up getting tons of Ramen, a couple of steaks, every flavor of pocky, some coloring books and other ninja snacks, not to mention some much needed medical supplies.

She rushed home and packed her large yellow bag with everything nonperishable, leaving the steaks in the freezer for when Inuyasha stays for dinner. She packed a few weather appropriate pairs of clothes along with her math book since that is her toughest subject.

By the time she was finished packing, it was already late afternoon. She quickly heaved her heavy bag onto her back, grabbed her bow and quiver and then rushed out of her room. She said her goodbyes to her family before practically flying out of the house and towards the well house. She wasn't going to travel through without her mate, just wait by the well for him.

Her heart skipped a beat when she felt the tingle of energy from the well and then the pulse of youki that belongs to her mate. Before she even made it to the door of the well house, Inuyasha opened it quickly and in the speed of light, grabbed her, wrapping his arms around her back and locking his lips with hers. Kagome allowed her hands to let go of the bow and quiver as she lifted her arms around his neck.

She moaned as his kiss became more heated and their bodies began to rub unabashedly together. She buried her hands into his long silver hair and swirled her tongue around his. She pulled back only slightly to speak against his lips.

"Kami, I missed you."

Inuyasha kissed her harder and groaned against her mouth before murmuring against her as well. "Fuck, I love you."

Kagome pulled him as close to her body as possible as her mouth moved against his as if her very life depended on it. She raised both of her hands to the top of his head and scratched the base of his ears as they moaned and groaned together.

Finally, after about five minutes, they pulled apart for air and rested their foreheads against each other. They were both breathing heavily and smiling from finally being in each other's arms once again.

Inuyasha pulled back from her, taking her bag off of her back and sitting it on the ground against the well house wall, before lifting her up bridal style and jumping up into the largest branch of the Goshinboku.

Kagome didn't even question the movement, she is just happy to be in her Hanyou's arms again. She wrapped her arms around his neck and cuddled her face into his chest as they relaxed in the tree together.

After a few minutes of comfortable silence, Inuyasha moved Kagome's face by the chin to look up at him. He looked at her nervously, not knowing exactly how humans do it, but he can't wait another moment to give her the ring.

He maneuvers her to straddle his lap before reaching into the front of his Suikan and pulling out the small leather box. Kagome gasped and her eyes widened at the small item in his hand. She knows that there is no way he got her what it looks like. How would he even be able to? Where would he have gotten the idea? So she just waits for him to show her what it is he has.

Inuyasha blushed as he handed her the small box. "I uh... uhm... k-keh... open it."

Kagome gulped and nodded slowly before looking down at the box in her hands and opening it. Her eyes filled with tears as she saw the most magnificent diamond ring she could have ever imagined. She looked from the ring to the hanyou and back down at the ring.

She finally locked eyes with the blushing hanyou and smiled widely. "What? How?"

Inuyasha reached forward to pull the ring out and gave a small smile when Kagome immediately held her left hand out towards him. He placed it on the correct finger and was pleased with the perfect fit. He locked his fingers with hers before gazing back into her tear filled eyes.

"Your brother told me 'bout this future human custom, so I had Totosai make it."

Kagome couldn't stop the tears from falling as she leaned in and wrapped her arms around his neck once again, locking their lips together. She kissed him slowly and sensually to show her love and gratitude for the best gift she has ever before received.

When she pulled back, she cupped his cheeks and rested her forehead against his. "Thank you... I love you."

Inuyasha moved his face to nuzzle her neck as he purred lightly. "I love ya too, 'Gome."

They spent the next fifteen minutes going over what Inuyasha had learned from Myoga and also what the ring is capable of. Kagome was just as surprised as Inuyasha when she learned of the rings special abilities.

After a moment of speaking about the mark, Kagome and Inuyasha both agreed that having this temporary mate mark in place until their wedding night when he can place the permanent one, would be the best decision.

Kagome moved her hair to the side and happily bared the left side of her throat for her hanyou mate. Inuyasha leaned forward, beginning to kiss and suck her throat softly.

"Are ya sure, Kagome?" He mumbled it against the spot between her neck and shoulder, before nibbling lightly.

Kagome grasped his shoulders in a vice-like grip, enjoying the feeling of his lips, tongue and fangs grazing her neck. She nodded her head and responded with a small, "mhm."

Kagome gasped when she felt his fangs sink into the crease of her neck. Her entire body began to feel like it was burning. It wasn't at all painful, but completely pleasurable. A loud moan escaped her lips as a small orgasm racked her body. When Inuyasha released his fangs and licked up the blood, she whimpered at the loss before looking back into her hanyous heated gaze.

Kagome's lips were parted as a pleasurable shiver flowed down her spine. "Holy kuso..."

Inuyasha chuckled as he kissed her softly before wrapping his arms around her and nuzzling back into her neck.

Kagome pulled back and smiled at him. "What does it look like? Is it just a bite mark?"

Inuyasha moved her hair back from where it fell over top of it and grinned at the mark that shows their promise to mate. "It's just a temporary mark, so it ain't gonna look like this when we complete the bond. It's just a bite, but with the kanji for 'pledged to an Inu.' Keh, you're mine, wench."

Kagome smiled happily, giving him a chaste kiss before nodding her head. "I'll always be yours, Inuyasha."

Inuyasha grinned as he leaned in and kissed her mark lightly, causing her to gasp at the pleasure. "And I'm yours, forever."
